Boris Mikhailovich Moiseev (real name Moises) is a Belarusian dancer and choreographer, and later a pop singer, who became famous not least for his shocking image. The artist’s main hit is the song “Blue Moon,” performed in a duet with Nikolai Trubach.

Childhood and adolescence

Boris was born in the Mozyr colony near Mogilev, where his mother, a Polish Jew by origin, served time on a political charge. According to Boris, she, an intelligent woman with an incredibly difficult fate, who lost most of her family in concentration camps, was condemned for the words “I wanted to give a shit about your Communist Party.”

Moiseev never saw his father and never learned his name. We only know that this man worked in the same colony and did everything to ensure that the woman was freed. Boris believed that he was the head of the block, since the guards in the colony were women.

As the artist recalled, his mother dreamed of a girl, and throughout her pregnancy she sewed girls’ shirts with embroidery, and when her third son was born, she put these clothes on him and subsequently often bought him girls’ clothes.

After the birth of her son, Genya Borisovna, an educated woman who speaks three languages, was forced to work for days at the Mogilev tannery in order to feed Boris and his two older half-brothers, Tolya (born 1941) and Marx (born 1943). Their father disappeared at the front; it later turned out that he had started a new family in Lithuania.

Boris dedicated the song “Deaf and Mute Love” to his mother’s memory. The final page in the story of Genya Borisovna is connected with her. In 1989, when Moiseev was on tour in America, a drunken, deaf-mute man broke into a woman’s apartment, mixed up the doors, and hit her with a crutch. The blow turned out to be fatal.

Boris grew up as a weak child, so his mother sent her son not to the sports section, but to a dance studio at the local House of Culture. After graduating from college, Moiseev joined the ballet troupe of the Kharkov Opera House, where he made a rapid career from a crowd artist to a choreographer. In 1975, the young dancer moved to Kaunas, Lithuania, where he became choreographer of the Trimitas orchestra.

After perestroika and the collapse of the Union, the team returned to their homeland and a year later presented to the audience a large-scale performance “Borya M + Boney M” with the participation of the legendary Boney M.
