In order to make products using the Kanzashi technique, you will need the following materials and accessories:

You can cut the fabric or ribbons with scissors, as well as with a soldering iron. To do this, you need a surface to cut on. It may be an old unnecessary kitchen board, but I preferred the usual wall tiles (left over after repairs), its soldering iron does not burn through and it is easier to clean. Some petals can easily be burned with a candle or lighter.

It is better to use a thick and transparent glue so that it does not leave marks after drying. I opted for "Moment-Gel": transparent, does not flow, adheres well.

Many people advise using tweezers when folding the petals.
I use tweezers when I fire the fabric over the candle.

• satin ribbons of any size, optimally 5 cm and 2.5 cm, but you can take any fabric: silk, satin, organza, etc.
• ruler
• pencil or chalk for marking straight squares
• scissors (any, most importantly - sharp)
• lighter and candle or soldering iron (if you know how to use it)
• glue "Moment-gel" or glue (hot) gun
• tweezers (preferably long)
• long and not thick needle
• strong thread (e.g. monofilament)
• beads, sequins and all sorts of beautiful little things

Types of Kanzashi petals

Kanzashi's technique is as follows: many small even squares of fabric are folded in a certain way and assembled into a flower. The petals themselves are sewn together or glued together.

As strange as it may sound, there are only 2 types of kanzashi petals: round and narrow, and the rest is room for your imagination.

Using the example of such a flower, we will learn how to fold narrow and round petals:

We use the same materials and tools as listed above.

We cut straight squares with a soldering iron or scissors. I have a satin ribbon 5 cm wide, which means there are 5 by 5 cm squares. Their number depends on the size of the flower that you will collect. There are 7 yellow and 5 green.

It is often advised to fold the leaves with tweezers. To be honest, my fingers are more comfortable, but whoever likes it better.

We fold it into such an even triangle. The fold itself is on top.

We apply the right corner of the triangle to the left.

And add it again in the same way, from right to left. Align the folds.

Cut the ends of the fabric evenly:

And we burn it a little over the candle, fastening the edges at the same time. This is done like this: holding the edges with tweezers, quickly draw the petal over the flame.

It is better to burn it at the very bottom of the fire, then the fabric will melt, and not burn.

We also cut and melt the lower edges. Here you can not glue them together, but simply melt the fabric so that it does not crumble.

How to make kanzashi flowers

Let's start collecting the kanzashi flower. We string yellow petals on a needle and thread. I prefer monofilament because it is not visible.

And we tie it in such a flower:

Cut out circles from cardboard and tape, put a cardboard circle on the tape, grease it abundantly with glue.

And, tucking the edges, we glue the fabric to the paper. Let the glue dry a little and once again spread the surface with glue.

Then we glue the blank to the flower from the back.

It is better to use glue here than a glue gun. Since our flower is voluminous, it is very difficult to glue exactly right away. And while the glue dries up, you can touch up the leaves to make it look smooth. It is difficult to do this with a glue gun - the glue hardens very quickly and it is rather problematic to peel it back off.

We also grease a single leaf with glue and glue it between two already connected leaves.

In the same way, we glue three leaves to a double one.

How to make kanzashi flowers for hairpins

It is better for a novice craftswoman to start with making hair jewelry. Choose ribbons of three shades and decorative accessories (beads, pebbles, beads). Make blanks of two-color pointed leaves:

• six pink cherry petals (dark side inside);
• eight peach-cherry elements (light side inside).

For a bright bezel, you will need the following material: a satin wide ribbon of white, peach, red and green, a pink stone (the shape is sharp, like a diamond), a bezel, scissors, tweezers, and a candle. We start with the preparation of sharp petals with space. You need to make ten petals of each color. Singe the corners on the wrong side, press down without cutting off the corners.

Now pay attention to the bezel. If it does not harmonize with the color scheme, then first braid it with a pink narrow ribbon (for example, a "snake"). Now you make kanzashi flowers:

• glue ten white petals together;
• insert peach leaves between the white elements;
• glue red petals under the white ones;
• separately make two elements of three sheets;
• glue them on different sides of the flower on the same line;
• on both sides of each leaf-shaped element, glue green leaves between the red petals.

From the inside out, spread the resulting composition with glue, glue it first on the pink circle to hide flaws, and then to the rim. Decorate the middle with a pebble. Unfortunately, I did not manage to photograph all my works, but despite this, a large baggage of photographs has accumulated, which I will share today.
I would like to say right away that over the years of work, the quality of photographs has also constantly changed, so please do not be surprised at different photographs)

Perhaps I'll start with one of my very first works, I photographed it on 11.03. 2012 already more than 6 years ago it turns out.

Initially, I planned to make jewelry only for myself and my daughter, but unexpectedly for me, orders immediately poured in. Although at that time I did not have experience and skill and now I look at my first works with a grin, because they were oblique curves and did not serve for a relatively long time. However, thanks to the orders, my experience and enthusiasm began to grow and as a result I began to make jewelry for sale and they flew like hot cakes.
Of course, the first photos, as well as the first works, left much to be desired, but gradually with experience the quality grew, but I want to say that growth has not stopped yet and I am constantly trying to improve my knowledge and skill, only now I am developing not in one narrow direction, but in different ones.

And this is a relatively new job, although it is also already about 2 years old, but in comparison with the first there is a significant difference in everything.

It is quite easy to make such a flower, again when there is experience, but beginners can do it too, the only thing is it will take more time.

How to do:

For such a lush flower, you will need a ribbon 0.9 cm wide, I will not say exactly by the footage, I did not calculate it.
Just a lot, a lot of 4.5 cm pieces are cut.

The approximate quantity is more than 100 pieces. I also did not count the exact amount, because I did it until the moment when there were no large gaps and it would be similar in the arrangement of the petals to a real flower. But here it will not work the same way.
The size of the flower and the number of petals will also depend on the diameter of the base on which the petals will be glued.
For the base, I usually take a circle of felt, the diameter, as I said, can be different. I have a diameter of 2.5 cm.

To make a petal, the tape is bent in half and the angle is cut off at an angle.

Then the corner is sealed with fire.

The lower edges of the tape are bent and scorched.

And the finished petal, or rather the petals, are glued with glue the moment "crystal" to the felt base in a circle. The first circle of petals is glued going onto the base of 3-4 mm, then the subsequent circles of petals are superimposed, as it were, in a checkerboard pattern, layer by layer, to the very end.
