Pregnancy

If you know how to knit, then knitting mittens will not be difficult for you. And in order for the mittens to not only be warm, but also beautiful, they can be knitted with various designs, patterns and braids.

White mittens with braid pattern

For these tops you need 100 grams of yarn. 100 m. It is better to take thick yarn.

Circular needles size 7 work best.

We cast on 30 loops on the knitting needles and knit 6-9 cm with an elastic band. Elastic knit 1 p. purl 1 p. front.

After tying the elastic band, move on to the braid pattern. To start forming the pattern, we knit 2 stitches, purl 9 stitches and again purl 2 stitches. The rest of the braid is knitted only with facial loops, as shown in the diagram. Look at the diagram to the left and follow it. You just need to start knitting according to the pattern, and then the principle will become clear.

Having knitted 15 centimeters, we leave 6 loops on the finger, threading a pin through the loops, and put 6 new loops on the knitting needles and continue knitting.

When the mitten is the size of your hand, start casting stitches.

First on the sides of the picture and approximately in the middle of the palm. When 8 loops remain, tighten the loops.

So we got beautiful, knitted mittens.

Patterned Gauntlets

These mittens with beautiful braids are knitted on five needles or so-called double needles. We cast on 52 loops, this turns out to be 13 loops per knitting needle. The elastic is knitted 2x2 for about 40 rows. Below is a diagram and description of how to properly knit braids.

We knit a finger on the 10th row. On the side of the small braids, add to the two middle loops - 3 times in the second row. Then in the third row 3 times. When there are 18 loops, transfer them to a pin and continue knitting the mitten. The finger can be tied later. It is knitted exactly like the mitten itself, only in a smaller size.

Next comes double knitting, in the first row on knitting needles we alternately knit one knit stitch and two knit stitches together. In the second row with facial loops, two loops together and so on until the end of the row. Pull all remaining loops.

Beautiful knitted mittens

The mittens are knitted in stockinette stitch, circular knitting, all stitches are knitted.

Knit the braid according to the pattern (see pattern below).

Divide 48 stitches onto four needles and knit together to make a circle. From the first two knitting needles, these are 24 loops, there will be a palm. From the remaining two knitting needles, these are also 24 loops, there will be a back side. The first and second needles are knitted using stockinette stitch.

The third and fourth knitting needles are counted on the pattern, 3 knit loops, 9 knit loops, on one needle and on the second 9 loops on the braid and 3 knit loops. Next, after 40 rows, remove 7 finger loops onto a pin, and cast on 7 chain loops on a knitting needle.

Having knitted the mitten along your hand, start running, to do this, decrease a loop in every second row. To get a triangular start, you need to remove it from the 1st and 3rd needles at the beginning of the row. With the 2nd and 4th needles, last stitches. After 24 stitches remain, begin decreasing on each row. Pull the last 8 loops.

Knitting a finger

Separately, remove 7 loops from a pin onto a knitting needle, cast on 7 loops from the top edge on the second knitting needle, and remove two on each side. There should be 18 loops. Knit the finger in a circular stitch, all stitches are knit. After the desired size, run your finger, just like the mitten itself.

The edges of the mittens can be crocheted and decorated with beads or seed beads.

To keep your hands from freezing in the cold, you need to knit mittens on knitting needles. We will make Kota mittens. For convenience, we knit on two knitting needles. Both children and adults will love these wonderful mittens. Our master class is very detailed, with diagrams and clear drawings. We hope that even a beginner will find it easy to understand our explanations. First, look at the size table to understand how many loops to cast on for the job.

To work you will need:

  1. Yarn 100% wool or wool with mohair – 70-80 grams, in 2-3 threads, depending on the thickness of the yarn.
  2. Knitting needles 2.5.
  3. 10 grams each of blue, black, light gray and dark gray yarn.
  4. Needle.
  5. Pins.

We measure the length of the palm, the circumference of the wrist, the length of the thumb.

Take a wrist 19 cm. Our knitting will look something like this: Right mitten.

We start knitting with the LEFT mitten.

But with the difference that we knit a mitten from two halves (the upper part and the palm), casting on 36 loops on the knitting needles from below. Therefore, the whole mitten will be 72 loops when we sew it. Our pattern is dense, we need to knit tightly so that the mittens are warm.

We start with a 2/2 elastic band or take a more complex pattern, “braids”.

We knit the upper part of the mitten. We cast on 36 loops.

  • Row 1: K4, P2, K4, P2, K4, P2, K4, P2, K4, P2, K4, P2.
  • Row 2: knit 2, purl 4, knit 2, purl 4, and so on until the end of the row.
  • 3rd row: same as 1st row
  • 4th row: same as 2nd row
  • 5th row: same as 1st row
  • 6th row: from 4 knits we make a “braid”: we cross 2 and 2, something like this:

The width of the pattern is 27 loops, the height is 43 loops. Therefore, from the beginning of the row, knit 7 loops in the main color, 3 loops in dark gray and then according to the pattern. We knit to the end of the little finger (approximately 14 cm). Next, we knit with the main fabric in a “braid” pattern. We begin to decrease the loops. On each side, knit 2 loops together in the front row. You should get a nice triangular toe. If you don't like a triangular one, you can make the toe round. To do this, knit 2 loops together through 1 loop. What is left is pulled together at the end and sewn up.

The most difficult thing here is to untie the finger. We cast on 36 loops and knit the cuffs as in the upper part. Next we knit in knit stitch (1st row - knit, 2nd row - purl, 3rd - knit, and so on). Determine where your thumb begins. Approximately 6-7 cm from the beginning of knitting. Approximately 17 rows. We settled on the front side of knitting, 26 knits. loops, slip 8 loops onto a pin, 2 knit loops. Purl the next row to the pin and cast on 8 loops (as when starting knitting we cast on loops).

Next knit as the top part. Finished and returned to the finger. Remove 8 loops from the pin, cast on 2 loops on each side and 8 loops on top (in the picture with red thread). We got 20 loops for the finger. Evenly distributed on 3 knitting needles and knit to the base of the nail. Decrease: divide into 4 parts and knit 2 loops together in each row. Having finished the finger, remove the thread inside out. Sew both halves together. The cat’s scarf can be knitted separately and sewn on, or made as in the diagram.

See the size chart above. We knit these mittens a little narrower than the previous ones. Mittens with an interesting jacquard pattern. We knit in a continuous fabric and sew the sides together.

Let's start from the top. We cast on 33 loops. We knit 2 knits, 2 purls with an elastic band. Shown in photo.

We have a pattern of 23 loops. This means that from the beginning of the row there are 5 loops with the main thread, and then the pattern. Start knitting the pattern according to pattern 1 to the end of the little finger. Next, decrease 1 stitch at the beginning and end of each row. We measure and apply our palm. There should be 15 loops left on top. We knit two rows evenly and then move to the palm and begin to increase in a mirror order. Knit according to pattern 2 to the base of the thumb. 2 loops in the main color and 8 loops on a pin. Perform the finger as in the previous knitting. We knit with a pattern up to the elastic band. Knit an elastic band and finish knitting. Sew the side seams with threads of the main color. You can knit according to this pattern, a slightly different pattern, the number of loops is the same:

Mittens . One knitting needle in progress. You need a little yarn: 50 grams.

It took very little yarn for the mittens: two small balls. Knit the mittens like this: 7 loops on four knitting needles, elastic 1*1, then put one loop on each knitting needle, alternate threads to knit the cat’s striped belly, then leave room for a finger, knit another and start decreasing.

It is unlikely that we can do without mittens in our harsh winters. They are simply irreplaceable in winter; they keep your hands warm much better than any leather gloves. However, they can be knitted in different ways. Bright ornaments and unusual designs will make them a beautiful and effective element of your wardrobe. Let's figure it out together with the pattern.

A little history

Mittens with patterns have been knitted since ancient times. Then the pattern on the mittens had a certain meaning. For example, a chain of diamonds protected against dark forces and served as a “tree of life.” The fish promised fertility in the coming year and also brought goodness. Drawings in the form of triangles, stars or birds served as amulet. All kinds of crosses meant fire and the sun. The “rope” pattern promised longevity for the owner of such mittens. At that time, various ornaments were treated with great respect and reverence. It was a kind of language passed on from generation to generation. Such patterns for mittens - amulets - still exist today, but people are not always aware of what they mean.

Preparing the material

First you need to stock up on yarn for the products. Wool, acrylic, angora, mohair and so on are suitable. Both a single-color thread and various shades are suitable. However, if you want, you need plain threads in two colors. Depending on the pattern, the yarn consumption will be different. It also depends on the density of the thread. For approximately one pair you will need from 40 to 150 grams of yarn. You also need thin knitting needles - five pieces. You can knit the base of the mitten on two knitting needles, but for the finger you will need three more.

What are the patterns for mittens?

If we talk about patterns, then most often they make stripes, ornaments or jacquards. Among the relief patterns, braids and cones are especially popular, a little less often - fringe and others. Mittens with ornaments are especially in demand. They present either native Russian traditions - depending on the chosen design. And the ornament itself looks like this:

1) A large, simple design made with a contrasting thread in relation to the background.

2) Several motifs that are arranged in a checkerboard or linear order one above the other.

3) Stripes on a single-color fabric.

In this case, threads are always used in contrasting colors: black and white, dark red and yellow, and so on. Red-white and yellow-black patterns for mittens are at the height of fashion today. Embroidery is often used over a simple stockinette stitch with the addition of beads and sequins.

For beginners

If you are knitting mittens for the first time, then you should not resort to complex patterns. The easiest way to knit the product is with one thread of melange color. This way the pattern will be created automatically. You can use a strip or study patterns; “cross rib” is easy to knit - this is the simplest pattern. You will need to purl 3 rows and then knit 3 rows. The drawing will be voluminous and extraordinary. You can decorate the mittens after knitting, for example, sew funny pom-poms from the same thread or thread in a contrasting color. If you are going for a more complex pattern, use no more than two threads and start with a checkerboard pattern. It is very simple to do: knit three loops with thread of one color, three loops with another, and so on. After three rows, swap colors.

Children's models

To make the mittens warmer, they can be made double-sided. If you are knitting for a child, then the inside can be knitted from grass-type yarn. This way you can imitate animal fur or fur that is pleasant to the touch. And at the same time, insulate the finished product. Don’t forget to decorate the mitten by sewing knitted eyes to it and embroidering the nose and mouth with woolen threads. If you have enough imagination, you can even add ears like a mouse. Eyes can be made from buttons or small beads. Even a child can help you with such decorations. Pattern diagrams for mittens are not required either. You can knit very simple, but original models with knitting needles.

Simple patterns for mittens

Making a mitten couldn’t be easier if you knit the palm and back parts separately, and then simply stitch along the edge. Here you will only use the elastic on the cuffs. One of the simplest patterns can be called “lazy jacquard”. For this, you knit two rows of different balls. However, you will not get a simple stripe, as it seems at first glance. You will pull out loops from the previous row in the desired alternation, which will give an unusual look to the pattern. Unlike a regular jacquard pattern, the loops will not be pulled together at the back, which will prevent the mitten from shrinking in size during the knitting process. Finally, if you want to make knitting even easier, knit the entire mitten with a regular rib. It is also possible not quite ordinary, for example, French, Polish, oblique or any other. In this case, the mitten will fit any size; it is very comfortable to wear, as it fits your hand tightly.

Summer options

Today, there are also summer mittens; these are lace mittens that are knitted from a thin thread. The thread can be cotton or silk. The important thing here is to choose a lace pattern. However, you can also crochet this model. Today, wedding models made in this vein are also popular. This accessory will make your ceremony unforgettable and spectacular.

The basic principle of knitting mittens

They are usually knitted on four needles. First, you knit for 5-6 centimeters with a regular elastic band, then go to any pattern you choose for mittens (patterns may be different) to the base of the thumb. To knit it, slip 8 stitches onto a pin and continue knitting in the round. 3 centimeters before the end of the mitten, begin decreasing on the sides, making them evenly in each row until only 8 stitches remain. Now it's time to tie your finger. To do this, put loops from a pin on the knitting needles and cast on the same number of loops on top and 3 on the sides. Knit in a circle until you reach the middle of the nail. Now you need to make decreases on the sides until there are 4 loops left. Knit them together. During the knitting process, do not forget to try on the mittens so that in the final version they fit you.

Conclusion

Mittens are not as difficult to knit as they might seem. Start with stockinette stitch to master the shape, and then move on to more complex patterns. Remember that you can also decorate ready-made mittens, for example, with crocheted flowers. Patterns for knitting mittens do not end with those that we have already described; there are countless of them.

With the onset of frosty and cold days, you want to insulate yourself as much as possible: put on warm clothes, don’t forget about a hat and scarf, hide your palms in mittens or mittens, gloves. You can knit unusual mittens with your own hands; the patterns and descriptions of their manufacture are simple and accessible, so even inexperienced knitters can cope with this task.

Knitting mittens for those craftswomen who have been holding knitting needles in their hands for a long time is a familiar and ordinary thing: most of them do such work mechanically, without thinking about the sequence of actions. For beginners in knitting, such work will seem a little difficult, but exciting and interesting. Schemes and descriptions of the process of how to knit a beautifully simple product will help you do the job correctly, efficiently and in an original way.

  1. In order for the mittens to fit perfectly on the palm, without squeezing your fingers or hand, you should start by determining the size. To do this, draw a brush onto the paper along the outer contour and calculate the size of the product, as well as how many loops will need to be cast on for a certain size of the product.
  2. Cast on 48 stitches on two knitting needles at the same time, then carefully remove one knitting needle and distribute the entire amount into 4 equal parts (12 loops each) onto different knitting needles. A marker is attached to the working loop so as not to subsequently lose the beginning of the circular row.
  3. Further knitting of the cuff with knitting needles is done with an elastic band, after which a few centimeters of stockinette stitch will fit.
  4. 8 loops from the first knitting needle are removed with a safety pin, and the same number of loops is cast on to continue working. Knit in satin stitch until the end of the little finger, after which they begin to decrease the loops evenly, the last 8 loops are knitted loop into loop.
  5. To the 8 previously removed loops, add the same number of additional ones and distribute them onto 4 knitting needles. The thumb is knitted from the collected quantity, the last pair of stitches is knitted together with the front one.

  2. Next we knit according to the pattern, openwork leaves will appear. On row 41, 6 stitches are lowered onto a safety pin for the thumb hole and knitting continues, casting on five stitches for balance.
  3. Having knitted all the rows according to the pattern, close the work and proceed to knitting the thumb, distributing 12 loops onto 4 knitting needles. Knit 15 rows in stockinette stitch, then knit 2 loops simultaneously on each needle until the end.

Knitted mittens with braids: step-by-step instructions

Warm and original mittens with a braid pattern can be knitted by following simple instructions and without deviating from the standard pattern. You can make this product from thick, coarse yarn, or you can make the product thin and light.

  1. Cast on 52 stitches on a pair of knitting needles and work with a double elastic band for 20 rows in the round. In the last row two loops are added.
  2. Starting from the 10th row, knit the finger gradually until 20 extra loops are formed. They are put on a pin and knitting continues according to the pattern.
  3. To knit a finger, knit the required length, then connect 1 and 2 together simultaneously using knit stitch, in the last row there are 2 knit stitches. At the end, tighten the remaining loops.

The right mitten is knitted in a symmetrical manner similar to the left one.

Knitted mittens with ornaments

You can make men's or women's mittens with an ornament with your own hands from any yarn, but it is advisable to use white or gray threads for the base. Men will also prefer a black base, diluted with gray ornaments.

The pattern can be made with any threads of a contrasting color.

  1. Cast on 48 stitches per pair of knitting needles, then distribute them onto 3 knitting needles (16 stitches each).
  2. Knit 4 rows with a double elastic band, then introduce a colored thread and knit a couple of rows. This alternation is repeated again. After which the cuff is ready.
  3. Knit four rows with a single-color thread using the stockinette stitch method and move on to the ornament.
  4. For decoration, the loops are redistributed in half and 24 loops are knitted according to the pattern. Having reached the second mark of the diagram, the number of loops begins to be reduced by 2 on both sides. This way all the loops are gradually closed.
  5. They return to knitting the fingers, which is carried out according to the standard pattern.

Knitting

We will knit the mittens using two knitting needles. Then we carefully sew the knitted halves together. This method is the most optimal for beginner knitters.

Left mitten

Top

Cast on with knitting needles 36 sts. and perform an elastic band 2k.x2p. You can knit “braids” instead of an elastic band:
1r., 3r., 5r.: * 4l., 2i.* - repeat from * to * - until the end of the r.
2p., 4p.: according to the drawing;
6r.: for 4l. loops we knit a “braid” - see photo.

Knit the cuff to the desired height. Usually it is 6-9cm, approximately 30 rows. Then we move on to the front surface. Having knitted 4 rows, from the 5th row we knit the kitten according to the pattern.

The dimensions of the drawing are 27p. wide, 43 rub. in height. Therefore, at first p. knit 7p. main color, 3 p. dark gray, then according to the drawing. You can knit a kitten’s scarf according to the pattern, or you can simplify your task by knitting it separately and sewing it on. We knit to the height of the little finger, i.e. about 14cm. Then we switch again to the “braid” pattern.

Let's start decreasing the loops. We do this using one of the classic methods - knitting a round or triangular toe. For the round one we knit 2 stitches. together in 1 p. For a triangular one, we knit 2 stitches symmetrically on both sides. together in the front rows. We tighten the remaining loops with thread and fasten.

Palm

We knit according to the description of the top. At a height of 6-7 cm from the beginning of the faces. satin stitch (this is about 17 rubles) we begin to knit the thumb. To do this, having knitted 26l, remove 8p. for a pin, 2l. In the next row, knitting purl. p. to the pin, dial 8p. Then we continue to work on describing the top (only without the pattern).

Thumb

Remove 8 stitches from the pin and place 2 stitches on each side of the hole. and take to work the 8p typed from above. We have 20p. Round on 3 sp. knit the height to the beginning of the nail. Then we make decreases: we decrease 1 point evenly four times. in every r. When 3 stitches remain, break the thread, tighten the loops, bring the thread to the wrong side and fasten.
