Do-it-yourself owl carnival costume. Owl carnival costume with eyes, mitts and feathers. Owl carnival costume: material, size and how to complement the image

Colpitis

As a rule, owls are motley, white-gray-brown in color. Its most important element is luxurious wings and round, expressive eyes. You can take any black, white, gray or brown bolero as the basis for the wings. On top of it, gently wash shreds of the appropriate colors to get multi-layered, voluminous, fluffy wings. This is a laborious process, but you will amaze everyone at the upcoming masquerade.

If there is no bolero, then sew the base for the wings yourself. To do this, cut out a large circle from the fabric, the radius of which will be slightly larger than the length of your arm from the neck to the fingertips. In this circle, exactly in the center, cut another small circle through which your head will fit. It turned out a homemade bolero, which we also sheathe with gray, white, black and brown shreds of fabric.

It looks very impressive when the basis of the owl costume is ordinary, coarse potato sacks. From them, sew a bolero and a skirt, and on top also sew different shreds, but not only fabrics, but also rustling black garbage bags. Then the costume turns out to be even more expressive, due to the fact that it makes rustling sounds, with a “wing flap”.

In both cases, a turtleneck and leggings should be worn under the resulting wings, in the colors that are present on the shreds of fabric sewn onto the bolero.

We sew a headdress for an owl costume

Now let's take a look at the headpiece. Take an ordinary cap with a visor, wash your eyes over it. The eye can be made from the bottom of a plastic bottle, painted with yellow nail polish or acrylic paint with a glossy effect, draw a pupil in black in the center. Such eyes can be sewn to the cap using the largest needle. Also, the eyes can be sewn from bright yellow fabric, again, not forgetting the black pupil. The eyes of an owl should be very noticeable and expressive. Then the ears are sewn to the cap, which are filled inside with synthetic winterizer or any other stuffing, because the ears should stand up. After all this, decorate the cap with scraps of fabric in the same way as the bolero.

You can wear big, big round glasses instead of a cap - they will be eyes. And on the head a hat with ears, decorated with shreds of fabric.

If you have an old feather pillow lying around in your house, then it will be very useful to you, carefully gut it and decorate the resulting costume with real feathers that can be attached to the fabric with glue.

Despite the fact that the times of the peak popularity of Harry Potter have already passed, the fashion for owls has remained. Plus, the owl is one of the “emblems” of autumn, because autumn is always associated with nostalgia and the beginning of education in schools and universities, which means knowledge and wisdom. Making an owl costume is quite simple, and with one of the options below, you generally need only a few improvised materials, a couple of hours and, by the way, no sewing. In total, here we will consider 2 options: owls are different, and ways to make a costume too. Both costumes can be made to any size: for both children and adults. To begin with, you will have to bribe some inexpensive and preferably plain clothes.

Option 1: common brown-black owl.

Prepare in advance:
- a brown sweatshirt or top from a tracksuit - always with a hood;
- brown sweatpants;
- a lot of felt or felt in 3 shades: brown, tan, black;
- scissors;
- glue for fabric

1. Cut out the simplest form of feathers from brown and tan felt/felt. Three times less than the same black "feathers". For a child, you will need about 200 tons of feathers (not too large, but not miniature, of course). If necessary, increase their number.

Real ones, especially if they are fluffy, feathers, which are not difficult to find in a craft store, in this case it is undesirable to use them simply because they will take a lot, and in the end the fluffy creature is unlikely to be mistaken for an owl, rather for some small a bird, a chicken, or even a chicken. Still, the image of a brown owl is somewhat more cruel, brutal, if you like.

2. Choose the size and density of the sweatshirt and trousers, considering that 200 felt feathers are still not the lightest load, and loose and / or stretchy fabric or things that are large will definitely sag unaesthetically with such a weight. If there are no options and you have to buy a suit a size larger when you go on holiday, put a few things under it for density and volume, taking into account the temperature in the place where you are going.

3. Lay the sweatshirt on a table (any flat, hard, wide surface) and start gluing the "feathers" to it with fabric glue. Start at the very bottom of the jacket and constantly vary the colors of the feathers: brown - tan - brown - tan - black and so on. Be sure to make sure that each new row of feathers that goes higher covers about 2/3 of the bottom row - this is the only way they will later recognize you as an owl.

4. Glue the feathers on the sleeves to the top of the arms, also starting from the bottom and working towards the shoulders.

5. Cut out two circles of dark brown felt, approximately 7.5 cm in diameter each. Cut out two circles from lighter brown felt, but already about 5 cm in diameter. Finally, cut out 2 x 2.5 cm circles from black felt.

6. Make owl eyes by stacking circles on top of each other and gluing, starting with the largest and then decreasing to black on top. Glue the eyes to the hood.

Option 2: snowy owl.

This costume is more complicated, but snowy owls always look spectacular.

Prepare:
- again a sweatshirt with a hood, but already white;
- similar trousers, but also white, or gray, gray-black;
- feather boa - white or with light patches of gray / black;
- a tailor's measuring tape or any analogue thereof, up to a tape measure with a soft plastic tape;
- an assistant (it will be difficult to take measurements alone);
- mask;
- paints;
- scissors;
- threads and needles;
- feathers;
- glue for fabric;
- fabric: felt, fleece.

1. Take a white sweatshirt (can be white-gray-black) with a hood and white or gray (or with a gray / black ornament) trousers as the basis of the suit. For size and other nuances, see paragraph 2 of the first option.

2. Measure the circumference of the open throat and the front perimeter of the hood of the sweatshirt.

3. Cut this length off the boa.

4. Thread the needle with white cotton-coated polyester thread (the best thread for all purposes).

5. Sew the cut off part of the boa to the edge of the hood and the open part of the throat with a zigzag stitch: push the needle through the fabric from the back of the hood / throat from the edge, pull it out from the outside, loop the thread over the boa from above, and stick the needle again from the back of the edge of the hood. And so from the middle of the throat in front, through the front of the hood and again to the middle of the throat on the other side.

6. Measure the circumference of the bottom of the sleeves of the sweatshirt, as well as the circumference of the bottom of the trousers.

7. Cut off 4 matching pieces of the boa.

8. With the same seam, sew the parts of the boa along the very bottom of the legs and sleeves. If there are no problems with buying several boas, you can sew such pieces of it in circles one above the other: it will look more like fluffy owl legs. On the arms and legs, pieces of the boa can always be replaced with white / white and black fluffy feathers, it's just that this option is more labor-intensive.

9. This item is optional, but here, in the same way as in the first version of the costume, you can sew / glue white / white-gray-black felt feathers for complete authenticity.

10. Take the simplest white mask only for the eyes (you can sew it yourself without any problems - as in the picture, only white) and with paint or, for example, with an indelible marker, draw a black strip around the nose, which will be designed to indicate the snowy owl's beak. Let the paint dry.

11. Turn the mask upside down. Glue white fluffy feathers on top and bottom around the entire perimeter so that they stick out in different directions. So that the tips of the feathers do not hurt you and do not interfere, cut out of white felt (or any sufficiently dense fabric), for example, a mask of the same size as the inside of the first, and stick it on the feathers. Let the glue dry.

12. From here on out, if you missed step 9. Call an assistant. Stand up straight, spread your arms straight out to the sides. Have an assistant measure the length diagonally from each palm to the waist. Get also the measurement from behind, but already from the wrist to the wrist through the back.

13. Cut out a rectangle from the snow white (or grey-black) fleece. One side of it should be equal to the length of your arms (from hand to hand), the second - diagonally from palms to waist.

14. Sew the fleece to the sweatshirt. It is best to use a running stitch here to attach the fleece to the jacket across the back at the top and to the top of the sleeves (at the shoulders).

15. Cut the fleece at the bottom into 2.5 cm wide and 15.2 cm long strips: they will simulate wings and feathers.

16. Glue or sew white or black/gray/white feathers onto the fleece. Cover as much of the fabric as you can.

17. When you are about to put on a suit, it is best to complement it with gray / black pumps / flat boots and wrap the rest of the boa around the neck (under the hood).

How to make a costume of an owl, an owl with your own hands?

    here you can do it yourself without any step-by-step master classes.

    Take an old t-shirt and either use a sewing machine or simply glue pieces of owl feather fabric onto each other. if you decide to glue then choose a special glue for fabric, sold in any haberdashery.

    And if you need a master class, then here's another option, look here.

    In order to make/sew an owl or owl costume you can use the following idea:

    • put on a festive dress or suit underneath
    • sew a cape or just take a white or brown scarf, to which you need to sew rounded teeth made of fabric or paper, it is desirable that the cape is combined with a suit dressed underneath
    • to make a mask, you can find a template on the Internet and cut it out of cardboard, and then decorate it (you can take the same rounded teeth from paper), or buy a ready-made
    • you can wear hairpins with feathers on your head, but this is more suitable for girls

    And here are some already implemented ideas for creating festive costume of an owl (eagle owl):

    I will tell you a very simple master class on creating an owl / owl costume.

    We will need a fabric of two, three colors. For example, it can be brown, black and milky. Or you can take a brown fabric, beige and white. Flannel is very good for this purpose. There is a flannel that does not crumble, so we can work with this fabric without using an overlock.

    We will need to use a square of each color. For example, if we are making a costume for a child, then a square meter by meter is enough. For an adult, a square of one and a half meters by one and a half meters is useful.

    From the square it will be necessary to make a circle, then we beautifully draw a circle along the bottom in the form of petalsquot ;.

    So we do each circle, while each subsequent circle must be reduced slightly in diameter. In the future, when applying circles from fabrics of different colors, we will get an excellent result.

    Let's make a cutout in the circles so that you can wear a cape over your head.

    There can be any number of circles. There are eleven of them in the suit in the picture.

    Under such a cape, a black or brown turtleneck, black jeans / trousers / leggings are perfect.

    You can sew a hat with ears on your head or make a paper mask.

    Owl hat for girls and boys. The cap is knitted and decorated imitating the eyes and beak of an owl.

    For the costume you will need a velvet fabric of brown and beige colors. For a girl, a dress with three rows of flounces is sewn. Detachable wing sleeves. Insert on the chest. white tights and boots. For a boy, you can sew a shirt and trousers in the same style.

    All the costumes that I consider to make with my own hands, I first of all evaluate from the position: how to get by with the least amount of time and money.

    On any clothes in gray, brown, beige or black, namely a turtleneck or T-shirt,

    we sew elements-feathers, matched by color in one key.

    It looks like this:

    For credibility, we make a mask.

    The mask can be made from felt.

    Or even easier from cardboard.

    To do this, you can simply print the templates and assemble everything as shown in the figure.

    To do this, it is best to use strong paper or stick plain paper later on cardboard.

Owl

If you cannot sew, then in this way an owl costume for a girl can be made using glue. Materials:

  • Gray and black fabric. You can use old clothes, as only patches will be needed for the work.
  • Scissors.
  • Needle and thread or Moment glue.
  • Sunglasses.
  • As a basis, use a black simple dress or a turtleneck with a skirt.
  • Cardboard.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Printer.
  • Lace.

Working process:

5. Insert a ribbon or string into the edges of the mask.

Ready! If you replace the feathers with white, you get the Polar Owl costume.

Wings

The most important part of the costume is the wings. If everything is simple with the upper part (in extreme cases, you can find a suitable hat), then with the bottom it is much more difficult. What you need to create an owl costume:

  • Black sweater.
  • Scissors.
  • Owl mask.
  • Glue.
  • Shiny ribbon.
  • Fabric for the base of the wing.
  • Feather scraps.
  • Cardboard.

What to do:

The owl costume is ready!

Owl muzzle

Do-it-yourself owl costume is made from the cheapest materials. For the muzzle you need:

  • A cap. Look for a suitable one in old things or in a cheap store.
  • Buttons.
  • Felt or felt.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue.

Working process:

  1. On the gray fabric of your choice, draw two large circles, a little smaller on white and the smallest on black. Cut out a diamond from the orange one (this is the nose).
  2. Cut out the details.
  3. Sew on the buttons to the black pieces.
  4. Glue two gray circles close to each other, glue the main details and the nose in the middle to them.

That's all. A simple creation of a muzzle for an owl costume.

Owl skirt

To get a full-fledged owl costume with your own hands, you need to think through every detail. Create a skirt. Materials:

  • Tulle in three different shades of brown.
  • Rubber band black.
  • Threads.
  • Scissors.

What do we have to do:

  1. Measure your child's waist and cut the elastic to the desired length. Sew its edges, forming a vicious circle.
  2. Put it on a chair.
  3. Now, from tulle of each color, cut strips ten centimeters wide and twice as long as necessary (choose the length yourself, based on the age of the child).
  4. Fold the strip in half and loop through the elastic. Pass the free edges through the loop. Do not overtighten the rubber band. Place all strips close to each other.
  5. Thus, you need to fill the entire gum.

The skirt is ready. This addition should be used when you have created the wings, body feathers and muzzle.

Cape Wings

The easy-to-remove owl costume is made from:

  • Fabrics for the base of the wings.
  • Contrasting fabric.
  • Ribbons of the right color

Well, the required materials: scissors, thread, cardboard and clear varnish or a lighter (to secure the edges of the tape)

What to do:

  1. Measure from the back of your neck to your waist and to your wrist.
  2. Fold in half the fabric chosen for the base of the wings. Mark on the fold the distance from the neck to the waist, and on the free edge the distance to the wrist.
  3. Cut out.
  4. Draw a line of feathers on the cardboard. Using it, make the necessary details on the fabric of different colors.
  5. Glue or sew feathers onto the main fabric.
  6. Scorch or paint over the edges of the tape with clear varnish. Sew it along the neckline and leave free edges for the tie.

Now you know how to make an owl costume in many ways. See how simple and beautiful everything is at minimal cost!

Dress up as an owl for Halloween or any other children's holiday!

Despite the fact that the main goal of the Halloween participants is to scare each other, we will still try to make our owl not scary, but funny, because there is too much evil in our world.

Necessary materials:

  • Different colors of felt fabric
  • Ruler
  • Bias binding or narrow ribbon for ties
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Plate

Step 1

Let's start tailoring the costume with the wings. Take the fabric that will lie on top. Place a plate on the canvas so as to mark the opening for the neck.

Step 2

Now, with the help of a ruler and chalk, draw straight lines of 40 cm down on both sides of the opening. Then close these two lines with zigzags, forming jagged feathers on the owl's wings. It does not have to be symmetrical. When the wing template is ready, cut it out.

Step 3

In order to make the second wing (lower), take a ready-made template and lay it out on the second piece of felt fabric. Outline the template with chalk, keeping in mind that the lower part of the wings should be an order of magnitude longer. Therefore, focusing on the template, lengthen the side and zigzag lines. Then cut out the wing along the outline.

Step 4

Connect the cutout of the upper wing with the cutout of the lower wing and sew them along the neck line. To the back of the wings, on both sides of the opening for the neck, sew ribbons for ties. Wings are ready!

This is how they should look when finished.

Step 5

Make feathers on the breast of an owl in the form of figures resembling a cherry leaf, 10x4 cm in size in two colors. Cut out shapes from fabric and glue them to a regular T-shirt in about 5 rows, alternating colors.

Step 6

Now we sew an "owl" headdress. Make a pattern of details on the fabric, as in the image. In this case, the child's cap served as a template. But the size of the middle part had to be slightly changed, expanding its front part.

Step 7

Sew all three pieces together.

Step 8

Sew on the ties and turn the hat right side out.

Step 9

A masquerade for a New Year's party for a child is the most exciting event of the year. Therefore, you need to prepare for it in advance and thoroughly. The main stage of preparation is the choice of costume.

Costumes of animals and birds are very popular: bunnies, chanterelles, squirrels, owls. It is the process of creating an owl costume that we will consider.

Festive T-shirt owl outfit

To create a do-it-yourself owl costume for a girl, you will need:

  • T-shirt (preferably loose-fitting and elongated);
  • trimming fabrics of various colors;
  • threads or hot glue;
  • scissors.

From the scraps of fabric we cut out feathers for an owl, of any shape you like. Then we sew or stick feathers on a T-shirt in a checkerboard pattern. If the T-shirt is too short, then the lower feathers can be lengthened or sewn in several rows imitating a skirt.

To add elegance, you can make several bows from satin or velvet ribbons. Bows can be attached to the sleeves or neck. You can also add nylon ribbons or embroider some elements of the costume with Lurex.

Fancy Dress Owl Universal

To make a costume that would be suitable for boys for girls, you will need the following materials:

  • dense fabric;
  • lining fabric;
  • satin or velvet ribbon;
  • small cuts of fabrics of different colors;
  • threads.

We fold the main and lining fabrics and cut out a semicircle (you can use a full circle or ¾, depending on the necessary splendor of the outfit). The length of the semicircle should be equal to the length of the product, taking into account the hem and neckline.

In the center we cut out a small semicircle so that the head passes comfortably. We grind the neck of the satin flight, and leave the ends of the ribbon free, they will serve as cloak ties.

We bend the material from below and sheathe it with a piping or ribbon. On the sides we make cuts for the hands and grind with tape. It is better to make the slots more spacious so as not to hamper the movements of the child.

We cut the fabric cuts into ribbons 5-10 cm wide (if desired, you can make smaller feathers), then we cut the ribbons so that a kind of garland of feathers is obtained. The resulting blanks are sewn or glued to the raincoat along the entire length, starting from the bottom edge. It is desirable that one stripe slightly overlap another, this will add volume and realism to the plumage.

If desired, you can add a raincoat with a hood. To do this, cut out a rectangle from the main and lining fabrics folded in two, sew it along one edge and grind it along the other. The end sides are sewn to the raincoat. Then we embroider garlands of feathers along the hood, making sure that the feathers on the hood do not stick out in different directions and correspond to the plumage of the cloak.

Such an owl costume for a boy and a girl is equally well suited. It remains only to choose the right trousers and jacket. For girls, you can even wear a dress under a raincoat (preferably not a fluffy cut).

Essential attributes for an owl

Such trifles as a beak and glasses will complement the image of an owl. You can use old sunglasses as glasses, after removing the glasses from them, or you can make a mask in the form of glasses. For those who use sunglasses, you can cut a small beak out of felt and glue it to the center of the glasses.

The mask can be cut out of cardboard, felt (it is better to use two colors) or printed on a printer. It is worth noting that felt is more comfortable and pleasant to the face than cardboard, and the paper mask is easily wrinkled. You can fix the mask with an elastic band or hairpins (for girls).
