Before you start knitting a scarf for a child, you need to understand how to choose the right materials and tools.

All children's scarves are mainly used to warm the baby in the cold season, which means that the thread from which the scarf will be knitted must be quite voluminous and warm. But do not forget that the skin of the child is very delicate, and the thread needs to be soft, non-spiny and hypoallergenic.

It is good that wool does not exceed 40 - 50% in the composition of such yarn, if possible, acrylic and bamboo are present. The length of the thread in a skein can be no more than 350 m per 100 g. The knitting needles on which the children's scarf will be knitted must be selected depending on the volume of yarn: the knitting needles must be taken 2 times thicker than the thread. So, for example, for a yarn with a length of 350 m, a knitting needle size of 2.5 - 4 is recommended.

But, if the knitting is too tight, it is necessary to take larger knitting needles, and vice versa, if the knitting is too loose, the knitting needles will be smaller.

Usually the required size of the knitting needles is indicated on the package from the yarn. The size of the scarf will depend on the age and height of the child for whom the product will be knitted. To determine the number of loops that you need to cast on the required size, it is advisable to knit a scarf sample about 10 × 10 cm in size.

How to knit a simple classic scarf: step by step instructions

Few novice craftsmen know how to knit a scarf on knitting needles for a child. There are two of the simplest classic options that everyone, even beginner knitters, can do: garter stitch and English gum. Both patterns allow you to get a double-sided fabric, that is, the front and wrong sides of the children's scarf will look the same.

Garter stitch means knitting in turning rows with facial loops, circular: odd rows - facial, even - purl. So that the fabric does not stretch during the work in rotary rows, the first loop is always removed not knitted, the last is knitted on the wrong side. A scarf knitted in such a pattern will be quite voluminous, but not very soft.

You can diversify the product with bright multi-colored yarn.

The technique of knitting with an English rubber band should be used after having already mastered the basics of knitting on knitting needles, because when making such an elastic band, front and back loops will be used. The scarf will turn out both voluminous and very soft.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • On the knitting needles, you need to dial the number of loops, which is a multiple of 3 plus 2 edge loops.
  • The first loop is removed, the last is knitted.
  • In the 1st row, the loop that goes behind the hem is tied with the front one, a crochet is made, the next one is removed. Such a repetition is required to be performed before the end of the series.
  • In the 2nd row: the first is removed, then the loop is knitted together with the front yarn, then the loop is removed without knitting. Alternation is required before the end of the row.
  • Perform such a repetition of the first and second row until the required length of the scarf is reached. At the end of knitting, close the loops, cut the thread and hide its remaining tip with a crochet hook.

Original scarf-loop for a boy

Many mothers are interested in how to knit a scarf for their beloved child so that it is warm and comfortable to use. To solve these problems, such an option as a loop scarf will help, which will tightly fit the boy’s neck, will not untie and warm him in cold weather. For such a scarf, you need a skein of voluminous warm yarn (wool no more than 40%), knitting needles No. 4 and a knitting pin.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. On the knitting needles, it is necessary to dial an even number of loops, which is a multiple of 4, in accordance with the selected width of the scarf. Work in rib 2×2, always slip off the first stitch, always purl the last stitch.
  2. In the 1st and in all subsequent rows, starting from the second loop, 2 facial, 2 purl loops alternate until the end of the row. Knit to a height of 10-15 cm.
  3. Next, the product must be divided into 2 equal parts in order to make a loop: it is recommended to reshoot the first half of the loops on a knitting needle, the second half on a pin. Knit the first part of the loops placed on the knitting needle. Knitting continue with an elastic band 2 × 2. Having knitted to a height equal to the width of the scarf minus 2 cm, remove the loops from the pin to a free knitting needle, the loops from the knitting needle to the pin. Using the free second end of the thread in the hank, knit the second half of the loops to a height equal to the number of knitted rows on the first half of the scarf, cut the thread
  4. Slip all stitches onto one free needle in such a way that first the stitches from the pin are thrown over, and then the stitches from the second knitting needle. Continue knitting for the required length of the scarf, which will be equal to the circumference of the child's neck, plus a few cm for the volume of outerwear, plus a length equal to the length of the already knitted part.
  5. Close the loops, cut the thread, hide the end of it. You can decorate the scarf with pom-poms or tassels.

Scarf-collar in the form of a bow for a girl

A scarf-collar in the shape of a bow for a girl is a complicated version of a scarf-loop.

To knit such a scarf for a child, you will need:

  • a description of how a scarf is knitted;
  • a skein of warm and voluminous yarn, which includes 40% wool, 40% acrylic and 20% bamboo, thread length 350 m;
  • a set of two straight knitting needles No. 3 and a set of 2 straight knitting needles No. 2;
  • large knitting pin.

The length of the scarf will be equal to the girth of the child's neck + 5-7 cm to the thickness of the clothes, if the scarf is worn over it. The scarf will be made using the "garter stitch" technique, the loops are knitted behind the front wall, the yarn overs are knitted behind the back.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Cast on 4 sts on needles #3.
  2. In the 1st row, the 1st loop is removed, a crochet is made, the 2 loops that go further are knitted, a crochet is made and the last loop is purl.
  3. In the 2nd row, the first loop is again removed, the second (yarn) is knit, the next 2 are knit, then the yarn is knitted with the front loop and the last one is purl.
  4. Then it is necessary to make an increase in each odd row similarly to the first row: yarn over after and before the edge loop. Increase to the desired width of the ball.
  5. Each purl row going further is knitted similarly to the second row, the increase is not performed.
  6. Then you need to perform a garter stitch without changes to a height of 7 - 10 cm.
  7. Next, move on to the formation of the loop itself. It is recommended to knit it on knitting needles No. 2 to make it more elastic. To make a loop, you will need to take the knitting needle No. 2 and the pin and remove the loops on them alternately from the knitting needle No. 3 (the first loop is removed on the knitting needle), thus dividing them into two equal parts.
  8. Knit the first part of the loops from the knitting needle with a garter stitch to a height of 5 cm. Then transfer the loops from the pin to the second knitting needle No. 2, and transfer the knitted loops from the first knitting needle No. 2 to the pin. Knit the loops removed from the pin to a height of 5 cm, while using the second end of the thread in the skein for work. Cut the thread when the desired height is reached. Alternately removing the loops from the knitting needle No. 2 and from the pin, throw them all onto the knitting needle No. 3. Knit in garter stitch on needles No. 3 for the required length of the scarf.
  9. Start knitting the second loop in the same way as the recommendations described above, that is, dividing the fabric into two equal parts, alternately removing the loops on knitting needle No. 2 and a pin. The second loop is also made to a height of 5 cm. Next, connect the canvas together.
  10. Run a garter stitch to a height of 7 - 10 cm (the number of rows is equal to the number knitted in the execution of paragraph 6).
  11. Next comes the decrease in loops. In each front row, each 2 and 3 loops are knitted into one from the beginning and from the end of the row. The purl row is knitted without decreasing with facial loops.
  12. Finish knitting as soon as there are 4 loops on the knitting needle. Cut the thread, hide the free ends.

Universal scarf-shawl

Before you start making such a scarf for a baby, it is recommended to decide on its size and color. The size of the scarf will depend entirely on the desire of the craftswoman. To create it, you will need 2 skeins of yarn of different colors, which include 40% wool, 20% bamboo and 40% acrylic, thread length 350 m per 100 g), knitting needles No. 3.

The easiest option on how to knit a scarf on knitting needles for a child is to use a garter stitch (all loops are knitted front).

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Before starting work, it is recommended to make a small test sample, wash and dry it so as not to bandage the finished product in the future.
  2. It is recommended to cast on 3 loops on the knitting needles, knit in turning rows with facial loops, with the exception of the edge loops: the first is always removed, the last is purl.
  3. The increase in loops will be carried out in every 4 rows, 1 loop before the last edge loop: the first 3 rows are knitted without changes, in the fourth row 2 front loops are knitted into the third loop - one for the back wall, the other for the front. Next, the next 3 rows are knitted without an increase, in the eighth row, 2 facial loops are again knitted into the penultimate loop - behind the back and behind the front wall of the loop of the previous row.
  4. The increase is carried out until the desired width of the scarf-shawl is reached. After completing the last decrease, it is also necessary to knit 3 rows, in the second, switch to a thread of a different color. Next comes the reduction.
  5. In the row, the first loop is removed, then the remaining loops are knitted except for the penultimate 2 loops. They are knitted in one front for the front wall, then the edge purl loop.
  6. Decrease repeat every fourth row until there are 3 loops on the needle. Finish knitting, cut the thread, hide the tip of the thread.

The scarf is ready. It can be additionally decorated with multi-colored pompoms or tassels.

Scarf with checkerboard pattern

A scarf with a checkerboard pattern is knitted very simply, while it turns out to be double-sided, that is, both the front and the wrong side look the same.

To create such a scarf you need:

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Cast on 30 stitches + 4 edge stitches. Knit in turning rows.
  2. Edge: the first is removed, the second is always front behind the front wall, the penultimate one is removed, while the thread passes before work, the last is the wrong side behind the front wall.
  3. Main drawing:
  • 1st row - alternating 6 facial for the front wall, 6 purl for the back to the end of the row.
  • 2nd, 4th, 6th row: 6 loops are purl behind the front wall, 6 - facial behind the back to the end of the row.
  • In the 3rd and 5th row: alternate 6 facial behind the back wall, 6 purl behind the front to the end of the row.
  • 7th row: it is necessary to change the location of the squares, that is, over the front loops, the wrong ones are knitted behind the back wall, over the wrong ones - the front ones are behind the front wall.
  • Next, knit five more rows over the front front behind the back wall, over the wrong ones - wrong behind the front.
  • 13th row - change the squares again. Knitting to the required length of the scarf. Loops close
  1. If desired, the scarf can be decorated with tassels:
  • Wrap around the narrow side of the cardboard with the thread from which the scarf was knitted 33 times. Cut the threads on the cardboard in half, so that the result is 33 threads of 20 cm long.
  • Take your hook and thread it through the first cast-on loop. Fold the thread in half and pull out a small loop with a hook. Pull the remaining end of the thread into the resulting loop. The brush is ready. Repeat for the remaining 32 stitches. The tip of the thread, which remained in the process of knitting when casting on, with the help of a hook, drag it into the edge loop and fasten. This will make 34 brushes.
  • Similarly, make tassels for the other edge of the scarf.

Scarf with voluminous braids

For beginner craftswomen who want to knit a scarf for their child, a scarf with voluminous braids is an option for how you can knit an interesting, warm and uncomplicated version of a children's scarf very quickly.

In order to knit such a scarf, you will need a skein of bright yarn, which includes wool, preferably soft and non-prickly (the length of the thread in a skein is 350 m), straight knitting needles No. 3 and a knitting pin, which will be required to form braids.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. A scarf with braids is knitted in turning rows. On the knitting needles you need to dial 39 loops.
  2. First row: the first loop is removed, it is not knitted, then 12 front loops are performed behind the back wall, then there is a pearl pattern, that is, for 13 loops, 1 purl, 1 front loop alternate, the row ends with twelve front loops and 1 purl - edge loop .
  3. The second row and all the following even rows: the first loop is removed, 12 purl loops are knitted, then a pearl pattern of 13 loops is an alternation of purl and facial loops (alternate starting in the same way as in the first row, from the wrong loop), then 13 purl, including the last edge. Row completed.
  4. In the third row, the formation of a pigtail begins: the first loop is removed, 4 front ones are knitted, the next 4 loops are transferred to a pin before knitting, 4 more front loops are knitted, then the loops are returned to the knitting needle from the pin and also knitted. Then comes the pearl pattern on 13 loops and another pigtail is formed: in the same way as at the beginning of the row, 4 front loops are knitted, the next 4 are removed on a pin in front of the knitting, the remaining 5 loops are knitted, including the edge, front ones, the loops are returned to the knitting needle with pins and knitted - 3 facial, and 1 last loop facial.
  5. The fourth and sixth rows are knitted similarly to the second; the fifth is similar to the first.
  6. In the seventh row, 5 loops are transferred to the pin at work, the next 4 are knit, then the loops from the pin are also knitted, 4 more facial loops are knitted, followed by a pearl pattern of 13 loops. Next, 4 loops are removed on the pin, the next 4 loops are knitted, the next 4 loops are knitted from the pin, and the last 4 loops are knitted with the front and 1 edge loop is purl. Row completed.
  7. The eighth row is performed similarly to the second. Then the rapport is repeated to the desired height, consisting of the first eight rows.
  8. When the length of the work reaches the desired height, it is necessary to close the loops, cut the thread, hide the end of it. The scarf can be decorated with tassels.

Ruched scarf

In the process of knitting such a scarf, you will need 1 skein of bright, warm, voluminous and non-spiny yarn (the length of the thread in a skein is 350 m, composition: 40% wool, 40% acrylic and 20% bamboo), 2 sets of knitting needles: No. 2 and No. 5.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Cast on 22 sts on needles #2, including 2 edge sts.
  2. From the 1st to the 4th row, inclusive, knit with a garter stitch (front and back rows are knitted exclusively with front loops for the front wall).
  3. In the 5th row, switch to needles No. 5. The first loop is knitted front behind the front wall. In the remaining loops, except for the last edge loop, 2 front loops are knitted: the first for the front wall, the second for the back, so the number of loops increases almost 2 times, they become 42 loops. The last loop is also knitted front for the front wall.
  4. From the 6th to the 12th row, inclusive, they are knitted with the front stitch on the knitting needles No. 5, that is, the purl rows are performed with purl loops, the front ones with the front ones.
  5. In the 13th row, you need to switch to knitting needles No. 2 and reduce the number of loops to the original: the first loop is the front one, then every 2 loops are knitted into one front loop for the back wall, the last one is the front one.
  6. From the 14th to the 18th row, inclusive, work with a garter stitch.
  7. Repeat the rapport from the 5th to the 18th row to the required scarf length. Then finish knitting - close the loops.

Warm snood collar

A seamless warm snood collar with a rice pattern is the simplest example of how you can quickly and beautifully knit a warm and cozy scarf for your child for the winter. To create it, you will need a skein of yarn 240 m long in 100 g (composition 50% wool and 50% acrylic), circular knitting needles No. 3, a knitting marker.

To determine the required size, it is necessary to measure the volume of the child's head: along the bottom of the chin, bending around the face along the top of the head.

Before starting work, knit a 10 × 10 cm sample, wash, dry, calculate and cast on the required number of loops, which will be a multiple of 2 and 1 additional loop to close the knitting in a circle. Knitting close in a ring. Hang a marker between the beginning and end of the row.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • 1st row: perform alternation to the end of the row 1 front loop, 1 purl. The row starts with a front loop, ends with a wrong one.
  • The 2nd row is knitted similarly to the first.
  • 3rd row: alternating 1 purl and 1 facial. The row starts from the wrong side, ends with the front.
  • The 4th row is performed similarly to the third.

Repeat from the 1st to the 4th row to the required height of the snout. Close the loops, hide the thread.

Hooded scarf

In order to knit a scarf-hood for a child aged 7-9 years, you will need 3 skeins of warm bulky yarn 100 m / 100 g, consisting of 25% wool, circular knitting needles No. 5, a sewing needle, a marker for the beginning of the row, hook No. 5 ,5.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. On the knitting needles, dial 80 loops and one extra to connect the knitting in a circle.
  2. Knitting begins with a pearl pattern: alternating one front and back loops and the end of the row. The loops are knitted behind the front wall. At the end of the row, so as not to stray later when knitting, hang a special marker.
  3. In the second row, the alternation of loops changes: over the front loop of the previous row, the purl is knitted, over the purl - the front.
  4. From the 3rd to the 6th row, inclusive, the 1st and 2nd rows are repeated.
  5. From the 7th to the 22nd row, the front surface is knitted (all loops are only front).
  6. 23rd row: the first 37 loops are knitted to the front wall, then 6 loops must be closed - for this, 38 and 39 loops are knitted, then the 38th loop is removed from the knitting needle through knitted 39; the 40th loop is knitted, removed from the knitting needle 39, and so on up to and including 43 loops. Knit the next 37 stitches to the end of the row.
  7. From the 24th row, a transition is made to knitting in rotary rows. It is necessary to knit a row to closed loops, the last loop before the closed one is knitted on the wrong side of the front wall, the knitting is turned.
  8. 25th row: the first loop is removed not knitted, then all loops to the end of the row (until the next closed loop) are knitted from the wrong side of the front wall.
  9. In the 26th row, decrease two loops: knit the first and last 2nd and 3rd loops in one.
  10. Then continue to knit with the front stitch (that is, the front rows are knitted with the front loops, the purl rows are purl, the first edge loops are always removed, the latter are knitted with the wrong ones) to the required height of the hood.
  11. Upon reaching the required height of the product, sew the two halves of the hood with a knitted seam.
  12. Go to knitting lapel. To do this, dial the front loops, starting from the first closed loop in the 23rd row, around the entire circumference of the resulting hood, their number should be odd in order to close the product in a circle. Knit all cast on stitches with a pearl pattern, repeating the steps from the 1st to the 2nd row of the beginning of knitting, to a height of 12 rows. Then sew the resulting lapel, that is, sew the 1st and 12th row of the lapel together with a knitted stitch.
  13. Start knitting the ears. To do this, crochet 6 single crochets into the amigurumi ring. In the second row, increase by 1 single crochet in each column of the previous row, that is, in the end you get 12 columns. In the 3rd row, increase in every second column, as a result, you get 18 columns without a crochet. In the 4th row - the increase is performed in every third column, 24 columns are obtained. 5th, 6th and 7th row are performed without additions. The first ear is ready, cut the thread, leaving a long tip for later sewing it to the hood. Tie the second ears in the same way. Fold each ear in half and sew to the hood.

Reversible pom-pom scarf

A reversible scarf is a scarf that looks equally good from the front and from the wrong side. In order to knit a universal double-sided scarf for a child, you will need 3 skeins of thread 50 g each (130 m), wool 25%, knitting needles No. 2, 1 additional knitting needle for forming a braid, crochet hook No. 3. Abbreviations: l.p. - front loop, iz.p. - purl loop.

A scarf with knitting needles with a description in the diagram for a child can be worn on two sides.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Cast on 40 stitches + 2 edge stitches. Front loops are knitted for the back wall, purl for the front. The scarf is knitted in turning rows. The first loop is always removed not knitted, the last one is purl.
  2. Main drawing:
  • in the 1st, the first edge is knitted, (braid element: (2 lp, 2 lp) × 2 times; elastic band - 1 × 1 - 8 times) - perform twice. Row finish 2 (2 st, 2 st) × 2 times and the last edge.
  • 2nd - 4th row to perform similarly to the 1st.
  • in the 5th row, start forming a pigtail: edge loop, (using an additional knitting needle, reshoot on the front of knitting from 5 to 8 loops inclusive and knit them with the first 2 l.p., 2 out.p.; then repeat another 2 l .p., 2 iz.p., perform an elastic band of 8 loops 1 l.p., 1 iz.p.) - repeat 2 times. Finish the row with the formation of another 1st pigtail: reshoot the penultimate 4 loops on the knitting needle on before knitting, perform them first: 2 l.p. 2 izp, the remaining loops perform 2 lp, 2 izp .. and edge.
  • 6th - 8th row knit similarly to the 1st.
  • Repeat for the desired length of the scarf from the 1st to the 8th row. Close loops.

For a pompom with a diameter of 5 cm, cut out 2 round blanks from cardboard: outer diameter 3 cm, inner 1 cm. Make a slit between them. Fold them with each other, laying a thread between the blanks. Wind a thread around these blanks through the slot so that the inner diameter decreases by approximately 2 times.

Cut the wound thread along the outer diameter, while pulling together the thread laid between the blanks. Remove blanks. Trim uneven edges of pom-poms. Make 2 more pom poms. Tie the resulting pompoms to the scarf in places where 9 single crochets are knitted. Finish the other end of the scarf in the same way.

Original cat scarf

To create such an original scarf for a child, you will need 2 skeins of yarn of different bright colors 500 g / 100 m, knitting needles No. 2, hook No. 3, a sewing needle with a large eye. Abbreviations: sbn. - a single crochet.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. The scarf is knitted with front stitch, that is, the front side is done with front loops, the wrong side is done with wrong, turning rows.
  2. On the knitting needles, cast on 40 loops, including 2 edge loops, the first of which is removed, the last is always purl. Knit for the required length of the scarf, periodically changing threads of different colors, thus making the future scarf striped. Loops close
  3. Cast on 28 sts for paws and knit for 48 rows. To bevel the foot, decrease the loops. To do this, knit in the 49th front row in one loop the 1st and 2nd, 13th and 14th, 15th and 16th, knit the last two loops also in one, but already purl loop. The 50th purl row is knitted without changes. In the 51st row, decrease again: knit the 1st and 2nd, 11th and 12th, 13th and 14th, and the last two in the wrong loop in one loop. 52nd row - no change. In the 54th - close the loops. Sew the foot along the long side. According to this pattern, knit all 4 paws.
  4. For the tail, cast on 14 stitches, knit them to a height of 58 rows. Decrease loops, forming a bevel of the tail. In the 59th row, knit the 1st and 2nd, 6th and 7th, and the last two loops in 1 loop. Run the 60th row without changes. In the 61st row, knit in one 1st and 2nd, 5th and 6th, and the last two loops. In the 62nd row, the decrease is not performed. In the 63rd row cast off the remaining 8 loops.
  5. Cast on 24 sts for the cat's head. Knit in stockinette stitch for the first 2 rows. In the next 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th rows, increase loops in every 2nd loop at the beginning and at the end of the row: knit two loops from one previous row. Further, without changes, perform from the 14th to the 34th row inclusive. From the 35th row and further in the 37th, 39th, 41st, 43rd and 45th rows, decrease: knit every second and third loop in one loop from the beginning and from the end of the row. Tie the second part from threads of a different color in the same way as the first.
  6. For the muzzle on the knitting needles, dial 20 loops. For the bevel in the 3rd, 5th and 7th row, add one loop in each 2nd loop from each end of the row. In the 15th, 17th and 19th row, decrease, knitting in 1 loop every second and third from each end of the product. In the 23rd, 25th and 27th row, increase the loops in every second loop from both edges of the fabric, in the 35th, 37th and 39th row, decrease these loops. In the 41st row, knitting close. Fold the part in half and sew along the edge.
  7. The ear consists of two triangles of different colors, but the same size. For one part of the ear, cast on 16 loops on the knitting needles. Knit them by doing in each odd row, starting from the third decrease in loops, knitting together each first and second loop from the beginning and from the end of the row. Until 1 stitch remains on the needle. Finish knitting. Knit two pieces of one color and 2 of another. Fold together two pieces of different colors and crochet their edges with single crochets. Ears are ready.
  8. Eyes can be bought ready-made, can be connected according to the following scheme. Each eye consists of 3 parts.
  • The first part of white threads: cast on 12 loops, starting from the 3rd row, knit together every 1st and 2nd loop. In the 11th row, close the loops.
  • The second part is made of blue or green threads. Crocheted. 6 sb. dial amigurumi into the ring. 1st row: knit 2 sbn in each loop. 2nd row increase in every second sbn. The result will be 18 sc. Finish knitting.
  • The third part: dial 6 sc into the amigurumi ring. In the first row, increase in each loop by knitting 2 sc. Finish knitting.
  • Sew all the details together. Repeat steps for the second eye.
  1. For the spout, also knit 6 sc. in an amigurumi ring. Perform an increase in each sc. In the third row, decrease: sc, decrease to the end of the row. The remaining 6 sc. pull off.
  2. Sew all details. Lightly fill the head with padding polyester.

When making such an unusual knitted scarf for a child as a cat scarf, the cat's head can be “combed” with a slicker to make its head fluff.

Buying a baby scarf is a very tedious task for most parents, especially if the child is small. Children often do not know how to tie a scarf on their own, the long ends of standard scarves get dirty very quickly.

For older kids or teens, it's hard to buy anything and still be able to cater to their needs, given the fashion trends for adolescence.

How to choose a scarf that is practical and warm, and most importantly, that it is comfortable for the child? The solution to the problem will be the purchase of a scarf-snood or a scarf-collar, as it is commonly called in common parlance.

This kind of scarf appeared in the Middle Ages, a hairnet was called a snood, but over time it turned into a scarf and in this form came into modern fashion.

Features and Benefits

Children's fashion today offers a huge number of varieties of scarves for children, but if you choose among practical things, a children's snood scarf will be the best option. This scarf is in the form of a ring, made in the style of circular knitting, that is, without scars (holistic). But sometimes there are snoods with a sewn base, that is, knitted in the form of a classic scarf, and then sewn.

Scarf-snood has a number of advantages:

  • it does not need to be able to tie, it is simply put on;

  • a characteristic feature of such a scarf is coarse knitting, it protects well from the cold;
  • snood can be worn as a regular scarf, or can be used as a comfortable and warm headdress;

  • snood is considered a trend in both adult and children's fashion;

  • snood harmonizes well with different styles of clothing;

  • thanks to the different styles of such scarves, the snood will become an ornament for every child (the pattern is considered a manifestation of the characteristic of the accessory);

  • A scarf is an accessory that is suitable for small children, teenagers and even parents.

How to choose

Many people think that choosing a snood scarf is as difficult as choosing a regular scarf, but this is not so. Given the versatility of these scarves, you will have to choose them only by color and pattern, so that they are in harmony with the child's outerwear or with the color of his eyes.

If you buy a round scarf exclusive for the winter period, you should not choose an accessory of red or pink color, it will unpleasantly emphasize the child's cheeks red from frost. Green shades are also considered irrelevant, they give the child's face a painful look.

Particular attention should be paid to the size, if you do not guess with the size, the scarf will look ridiculous on the child and will be poor protection from the cold. To learn how to correctly determine the desired size of the snood, you need to remember several age-related features of this accessory:

  • for a child of 4-6 years old, the width of the snood should be approximately 15 cm, and the length should be 100 cm;

  • for 7-9 years, the width of the snood should be 18 cm, and the length should be 115 cm;
  • for 10-12 years old, width - 20 cm, length - 130 cm;
  • for children over 12 years old, the snood should be 22 cm long and 145 cm wide.

How to wear

If a snood is chosen for your child, the question arises of the correct combination of this accessory with outerwear. Such a scarf, like a traditional one, should be in perfect harmony with the color of the outerwear. You can choose the color combination of such accessories with shoes or other accessories. That is, choose not the color of the jacket, but the color of boots and mittens.

A scarf-snood can be worn complete with a hat, or you can use it as a headdress. If you put a snood on a child as a headdress, you should not wear a scarf (another one), because in fact the snood itself is a scarf.

A snood scarf looks good if you put it on a child, maintaining the contrast of tones. If the outerwear is of a bright shade, choose a scarf-collar in matte and pastel colors for it; if the outerwear is matte shades, put a snood in pastel colors on the child.

Fashion trends

A scarf-snood, in addition to a practical purpose, also performs an aesthetic one thanks to fashionable weaving styles and the material from which it is made. Children's fashion echoes adult fashion and the snood scarf is considered one of the unique demi-season accessories.

Snoods made of thin fabric can be worn not only in cold weather, they are in perfect harmony with T-shirts, sarafans, and children's summer sportswear. For demi-season style variations, it is better to take snood scarves made of natural, but fine wool. Today, snoods made in the following styles are considered very popular:

  • English gum - a characteristic feature of such a scarf will be its splendor and weaving in the form of stripes (concave, curved);

  • openwork weaving - such scarves are made in the form of repeating stylish patterns (leaf, flower, geometric figure, etc.);

  • fleece snood (the advantage of the material is its softness and hypoallergenicity);

  • snood scarves with a large length (they are fastened with a brooch or put on by twisting a figure eight);

  • snoods of large weaving (they are characterized by splendor and volume, especially scarves made of natural threads or wool are in trend);

  • snoods with the image of animals;

  • snoods with decorative weaving (woven beads, rhinestones);

Stylish images

Not only adults want to be stylish, children also dream of keeping up with fashion. Snood scarves are a great accessory for a child's look. It is generally accepted that for sports style you should choose classic hats and scarves with logos, but if you replace these things with snoods, you will end up with a wonderful set of winter clothes.

A snood scarf will complement any style, but it will become especially relevant when forming a teenage fashionable look.

Youth style (adolescence) is characterized by brightness, individuality and extravagance, the fulfillment of such requirements is within the power of a scarf-snood. With its help, it is easy to create an image of fresh youth and tenderness, thanks to the long cut, if you stab such a scarf with a brooch.

Snood is a beautiful and warm knitted scarf with joined edges. This so-called pipe can be of various sizes, densities, volumes and is made using a variety of patterns: from simple elastic bands to braids and weaves of incredible complexity. A closed scarf, also called a collar, can be dense and warm, or can be openwork and airy, depending on what season it is selected for.

How to knit a snood scarf with knitting needles - photo and video tutorials for beginners

Snoods have been very popular for several cold seasons in a row, and for good reason, because they look harmonious with almost all styles of clothing, they are great for women, men and children, and by choosing a beautiful color and interesting yarn in texture, only one snood will work as the most important emphasis on the whole image. That is why it is worth knitting this simple, but very useful accessory with knitting needles. In this article, we will look at several ways to knit a collar, including for beginner knitters. To knit snood with knitting needles for beginners, diagrams with a description will be very useful.

Tied with an elastic band

The elastic band pattern is universal when knitting a wide variety of products, but it looks especially good on closed things. In addition, a big plus of this pattern is its ease of execution and versatility: a snood collar tied with an elastic band is suitable for both women and men. Therefore, novice masters should turn to this particular knitting method. In this case, we will talk about knitting with circular knitting needles, which are so convenient to knit collars.

Popular articles:

Materials for work:

  • 1 pair of circular needles;
  • thick threads (composition to your taste: wool, wool mixture, acrylic);
  • Crochet hook;
  • scissors.

Working process:

We take knitting needles and we collect loops. In total, we need 98 loops. If you want to make the snood wider, cast on more loops, the main thing is that there should be an even number of them.

After you have cast on all the loops, you should remove one of the knitting needles.

We remove the first (edge) loop.

Let's start the knitting process. Please note that in the left hand we will have a knitting needle on which the loops are located, and in the right hand we will have a knitting needle on which we will wear knitted loops. So, we remove the first loop on the right knitting needle. We hook the next loop behind the front wall from left to right, grab the working thread and pull it together with the knitting needle into the loop on the left knitting needle. We transfer the loop to the right knitting needle.

The next loop will be purl: leave the working thread in front of the knitting needle (on the left side), insert the right knitting needle from right to left on the left knitting needle under its front wall, put the right knitting needle on the working thread. After that, the knitting needle with the working thread is pulled back into the loop on the left knitting needle.

We continue to alternate the loops: front, back, etc.

We will knit in a circle, so we do not need to turn knitting. Be careful not to twist the loops, as we don't have a pattern yet, so the loops can be twisted.

The width of the product will be about 30 cm. If you want to calculate the width individually, you can use the following formula: neck height * 2 + 5 cm.

After the product has gained the required width, you need to close the loops. To do this, we knit 2 loops with the front one, remove them, and then throw them back on the left knitting needle.

If your knitting is too tight, you can use a crochet hook as an auxiliary tool.

When only 2 loops remain, we close the row, knit with a single crochet using a hook. Snood with an elastic band is ready. You can wrap it inward or fold it in half.

Openwork scarf

An openwork snood can be light and decorate in the warm season, it can be dense and warm in cold winters, or it can be openwork, but dense, and perfectly protect against verta in autumn and spring. In addition, it will look original and bright. How to knit an openwork snood with knitting needles that will decorate and protect at the same time? We knit a long milk scarf-braids

This model is based on spikelet and garter stitch.

These days, the collar scarf, also known as the snood, is a very stylish accessory that looks harmonious on men and women. If you want to keep up with fashion, you should learn how to knit a scarf collar yourself.

What is snood?

Such scarves experienced the last peak of their popularity back in the eighties. Speaking of snood, people mean a scarf in the form of a collar or a pipe, which is crocheted or knitted into a closed ring. At the same time, it can be knitted in a simple form, or you can use the so-called “Mobius strip”, which will protect your neck a little better from the cold.

In addition, it is not necessary to loop the scarf - you can make a clasp by attaching cute loops or buttons. Such a design is most often used for scarves of small diameter, which tightly wrap the neck and are worn exclusively in this way.

There is a huge variety of different options for decorating a tubular scarf. You can use both beads and fur or a brooch, thereby creating an original and bright image. Such manipulations should not add to your inconvenience when wearing a scarf.

Deceptive simplicity can be misleading, since there are many varieties that are not slightly different from each other.

First of all, it is worth talking about sizes - some are designed for several turns with one on the head, while the latter can be worn exclusively on the neck.

The latter also have a division: some you can put on your head as a warm hood, others have a design in which the collar is worn exclusively around the neck.

How to knit a scarf with knitting needles?

First you need to understand that there are different ways to knit a scarf collar, and this is just one of them. To successfully knit such a scarf, you will have enough basic knitting skills. All you need is the ability to cast on loops, knit a pattern according to the pattern and have perseverance for this business.

If you want your scarf to be both beautiful and functional, be prepared to take the time to do the math. Do not ignore this step, because knitters often have to bandage their products due to incorrect calculations.

To get started, try knitting a small swatch with your chosen pattern. So you look at the density of knitting and see the upcoming pattern. All this will help you accurately determine the number of loops that you will subsequently dial.

In self-knitting a scarf, video tutorials on this topic will come to the rescue. It's not hard to find them on the internet. In many of them, they simply and clearly talk about all the stages and possible options when knitting such a product.

If you take your time and carefully study the materials, you can immediately knit the desired scarf.

scarf-pipe

Such knitting of a scarf is also suitable for beginner knitters. This is an extremely simple, but at the same time very beautiful and stylish snood. After spending just one day, you will be able to surprise your friends with such an interesting new thing very soon.

Thicker yarn is best for this. Let's start by creating our sample. Needles number 4-7 are best suited for this business. With such a tool, we will get about 12 rows, 15 loops each. So we knit our example 10x10.

Width should be selected by trial and error. In this, a sample comes to our aid - it will approximately be seen from it. Personally, I think that about 50 centimeters will be enough for an adult. Remember, these are just approximate numbers.

For such a scarf, a garter stitch is perfect - one is very plastic, and better contact is formed in the upper part of the neck, dispersing over the shoulders in a wonderful fan. All rows, both purl and knit, must be knitted with purl loops. Although if facial, it is worth stopping at them.

Let's start with the inlaid edge. You can do it the easy way. In the event that you are no longer a beginner in such a business, you can even set with a waste thread, further braiding it and sewing the open edges with a loop into a loop. So you will be able to get an almost invisible joint, almost completely invisible in the usual position of the scarf around the neck.

And now the loops are dialed, and our step-by-step knitting of a scarf with our own hands continues. You need to knit the first row. Pay attention to the edge loops - in such a product, their quality cannot be neglected. Otherwise, you will need to spend time tying the edge, or additional finishing.

To do this, at the end of the entire row, leave one loop in your left hand, which you then tie to the wrong side. We turn the canvas over - we remove the first loop from the knitting needle in the right hand and move on. Each time you need to do this process with the final loop of each row.

When we got the required length, which we originally planned, we begin to close the loops. To do this, we stretch each next loop on the knitting needle through the previous one.

In this simple example, you should have made sure that tying a scarf collar yourself is not at all difficult. Moreover, when you see the result of your work, you will also experience pride in the work done.

Before approaching the consideration of the most popular and relevant schemes this season, some details should be clarified.

  1. Of course, first decide on the choice of threads. They should not be too thin, choose not only your favorite color, but also good quality yarn. Let the composition be from 50% natural threads (wool, angora, mohair).
  2. The next step is the knitting needles. If you do not yet have knitting needles and you are new to this type of needlework, we recommend purchasing circular knitting needles, 4.5-5 mm thick. They are just right for beginners.
  3. And the third stage - practice knitting a small patch, the so-called trial version.

While you are not a pro yet, try to master the following knitting methods:

The photo shows the finished product, knitted with Polish rubber. Consider also the scheme by which you need to knit this wonderful beauty. And here is a small instruction on how to knit a collar scarf with knitting needles with this particular type of knitting.

  1. Cast on the required number of loops. To make such a knitted snood, as in the photo, you will need 110 loops (or a multiple of 4, plus 2 edge loops). The finished product will have a total length of about one and a half meters.
  2. We knit all the loops and connect them into a ring.
  3. We turn to knitting the first row. To do this, we observe the repetition: 3 facial loops, one purl.
  4. Second row: 1 facial, 1 purl, 2 facial.
  5. Third row: repeat knitting on the first row.
  6. The fourth row is similar to the second.
  7. We knit according to this instruction until the snood reaches the required width. Next, close the loops.

Faceted ribbing and garter stitch

The set of loops is the same as when knitting with a Polish elastic band.

  1. First row: we knit 2 front loops and 2 wrong ones, at the end of the row 1 front, and then - edge;
  2. Second row: purl loop - 2 pieces, front loops - 2 pieces, 1 wrong side at the end of the row, then - edge.
  3. Alternate rows until the scarf is the desired width.

Faceted elastic can also be combined with garter stitch.

  1. We collect 80 loops and 2 edge.
  2. We knit 80 rows with a faceted elastic band.
  3. Next comes 6 rows of garter stitch: remove the edge loop on the right knitting needle. Next come the front loops, behind the front wall. The last loop in the row is purl.

You can knit such a colorful option

Pick up green, turquoise, dark green, blue-green, yellow threads. The needles are naturally circular. The knitting method here is the front surface. We knit the first row with facial loops, the second with purl. To begin with, we collect 80 loops, and then we knit 40 cm in each color, using the front surface. At the end of the work, we close the loops.

Knitted collar scarf: video tutorials for every taste

Another way to learn how to knit a collar scarf with knitting needles is, of course, to watch video tutorials on our page. So, let's get to work. We take threads, which include 50% wool and 50% synthetic yarn. We select knitting needles, 6 mm thick.

  1. At the first stage we knit a cross braid. Cast on 16 stitches. We begin to knit 1 row: we remove the first loop, we knit the second loop with the wrong loop. Next, we knit 12 loops with facial loops. The last 2 loops are purl.
  • We knit the second, third and fourth rows in the same way - where we have facial ones, we knit facial ones, etc.
  • Fifth row - remove the first loop, the second wrong side. We take an additional knitting needle, remove 3 loops on it, leave it in front of us and knit 3 loops from the main knitting needle, and then 3 loops from the additional one. According to this scheme, we knit further, until the end of the row. 2 last loops - purl.
  • The sixth row is similar to the first.
  • We turn the work over and start from the first row. We will knit cycles of 6 rows until we get a scarf that is 56 cm long (based on an adult). In order for you to get everything right, you can periodically rewind the video and view the instructions from the very beginning.
  1. Second phase. When we knit the whole product, we need to connect 2 of its edges. To do this, we cut the working thread on one side, thread a needle into it and begin to sew 2 edges. To do this, from the near side we stretch the needle into 2 consecutive loops, and then transfer the needle and thread to the second (far) edge of the scarf.
  2. The pigtail is ready. Let's move on to the third stage of knitting. Now we pick up 108 loops along the transverse braid in a circle and start knitting with pearl knitting.
  • First row: front loop, purl, front, purl. And so on to the end of the row.
  • Row 2: Swap knit and purl stitches. Where there were facial ones, we make purl ones and vice versa.
  • We alternate rows and knit with pearl viscous 5 cm from the transverse braid.
  1. Fourth stage- we knit 4 cm with an elastic band 2x2. That is, 2 loops are facial, 2 purl.
  2. Fifth stage- close the loops.
