MAC Pressed Pigment - reviews. Eyeshadow from A to Z How to replace the base for eyeshadow

Gynecology

If you like black shadows and MAC, then welcome to the cat.

I am a cosmetic maniac and I absolutely love eyeshadow. I'm usually drawn to bright and unusual shades. And today’s review is exactly about this.

Professional brand MAS is rich in various decorative products for the eyelids.

My shadows are from the fall 2013 collection, which has a total of 12 shades, including this one.

MAC Pressed Pigment Jet Couture

-Package The standard for the brand is a black cardboard box with all the information, and in it there is a plastic round with shiny inclusions in it.

-Weight 3 grams of shadows, no fragrance at all.

-Texture The shadows are very interesting - in the packaging they seem dry, but as soon as you touch them with a brush you can immediately see that they are somehow moist and creamy.

-Color black, but only in the packaging; in general, these shadows are real chameleons, shimmering in various shades of black, turning into khaki. They look very voluminous and festive on the eyelids.

Top photo is daylight at a certain shooting angle, bottom photo is with flash

-Apply It is best to apply them with your finger or a brush with artificial bristles using driving movements, otherwise not even a hundredth part of their beauty and splendor will be visible. And if you use the wet method, you can completely go blind from their shine and radiance.

Shadows absolutely weightless on the eyelid and do not cause me any discomfort when worn. Due to the peculiarity of the texture, I would advise before applying them to use something to protect against glitter, which crumbles and settles on the face, or use tone and concealer after eye makeup.

-Hold on They last for me until they are removed, they don’t crease, but I always use a base under the shadows, without it I don’t wear any shadows with my drooping eyelids.

This color, of course, is not an everyday option (although it depends). But

in the evening you will be irresistible with it if you are not afraid of such bright and dark colors).

No, on the contrary, I’m attracted to everything unusual and unusual in makeup. So more black, red, blue and green eyeshadow on the eyelids.

It seems that all the moments have been illuminated, now you can show them in makeup)

I'm not a professional makeup artist, so everyone can decide for themselves exactly how to wear and play with these shadows. I just showed one of the possible options.

Price: about 1500 rubles.

Grade: 5+++++.

Term of use: repeatedly.

Do you wear a lot of eyeshadow and do you wear black?

Sincerely, Elena.

Makeup simply cannot be made perfect without using eye shadow. It is believed that they are able to give your look a drop of slyness, mystery and unprecedented attractiveness. Also, shadows can to some extent change or emphasize the color of the eyes. This can be achieved with the right choice of shadows.

Today, all shadows are divided into two types: pearlescent and matte.

As a rule, pearlescent refers to shadows that contain tiny particles that have a slightly pronounced shine. In addition, shimmers add sparkle to this cosmetic product.

Pearlescent shadows have the unique ability to open up the look and also eliminate signs of fatigue. To verify the exclusive ability of these shadows, you just need to apply mother-of-pearl to the moving eyelid and the inner corner of the eye.

It is recommended to use pearlescent cosmetics if you are going to an incendiary party. But if your skin has wrinkles, then you still shouldn’t resort to mother-of-pearl, as it will only highlight your imperfections and make your face look tired.

Matte shadows are most often intended for daily use. They can be applied to the entire eyelid. If you want to give your makeup a natural and relaxed look, then blend matte shadows well.

If you still want to use these shadows for evening make-up, then in order to achieve intense and bright shades, apply the shadows with slapping movements.

Basically, matte eyeshadows are ideal for creating a simple makeup look that is suitable for business meetings. However, using a varied palette of matte shades, you can try to create an original make-up.

Let's figure out which shadows are better, matte or pearlescent, and what is the difference?

Makeup artists say that matte shadows are a little more difficult to shade than pearlescent ones. Also, shadows of matte shades must be applied carefully and shaded thoroughly, otherwise the shadows will appear in spots.

But matte shadows also have their superiority over pearlescent ones, because they can be applied to the entire eyelid. You can also correct fine wrinkles with the help of matte shadows.

There is no definitive statement about which shadows are better, matte or pearlescent. Of course, each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Today we will perform the most fashionable eye makeup this season using crumbly pearlescent shadows.

To create it you will need:

  • pearlescent crumbly shadows;
  • wax watercolor black, white, brown;
  • basic matte shadows;
  • mascara

In fact, every cosmetic brand now has powder pearlescent eyeshadows in its product line. Therefore, the choice is very large and you can choose whatever shade and grind you want. The master class uses eyeshadows from Cinecitta in brown and peach shades, and Tami Tanuka in blue, light blue and violet. Very often, pearlescent crumbly shadows are called pigments, which are not pigments. Therefore, if you are not particularly knowledgeable about cosmetics, when purchasing products, indicate that you need loose shadows.

Also, such shadows require a very strong sticky base. It’s very good if these are long-lasting cream or gel eyeliners.

This eye makeup implies a completely natural frame in the form of eyebrows. Therefore, line your natural eyebrow just a little, comb it well and fix it with a styler. Apply foundation and setting powder over the eyelid.

In the master class we will work with watercolors, and we will apply crumbly shadows onto it. Using white watercolor, highlight the area under the eyebrow. The transition to the fold should be smooth and neat. We also apply them to the corner of the eye, achieving a natural transition to a flesh tone.

Using brown watercolor, we will draw a shape that we will fill with crumbly shadows. First, draw a corrective arrow from the pupil towards the temple. It will continue and lengthen the shape of the eye.

Then, from the end of the tail of the arrow, we draw the part into the fold and along the lower eyelid.

Now we need to paint the moving and lower eyelids white. We paint over the middle and shade all the lines of the part in the indicated directions. Lower eyelid to the ear, upper eyelid to the temple and smoothly connect brown and white shading.

We cover the shade of brown watercolor with a base matte shade of eyeshadow. This is best done with a fluffy brush. We need this so that the pearlescent shadows do not stick and create a clear outline, but smoothly lay from the watercolor onto the haze of the base shadows.

Now take the darkest shade of pearlescent shadows. In this case, they are brown with a green tint. Apply them to the corner of the eye. We repeat with them the shape of the part that was originally drawn in watercolors. We don’t smear the shadows, but build them in.

Apply a blue tint of loose eyeshadow to the middle of both the upper and lower eyelids. Closer to the corner we apply green shades. It’s like we’re driving them into the skin too.

Apply pearlescent shadows with a pinkish tint under the eyebrow and in the corner of the eye.

Now take a very small brush and add purple shadows. Carefully apply them to the mucous membrane and drive them in with an arrow along the upper eyelash row.

What types of shadows are there, how to choose and apply them correctly, and who is most suitable for them? Read our beauty cheat sheet to take it to the next level!

Types of eye shadow

Eye shadow is the most important element of makeup. With their help you can correct them, make them larger and more expressive. This requires correct application techniques and basic knowledge about the types of products and their textures. Let's find out the differences between different eye shadows.

Compact eyeshadow

Compact eyeshadows are the most common type of eyeshadows. In their production, pigments are mixed with binders and pressed together. Today, the beauty market offers a huge selection of compact shadows: different colors, textures, durability. Recently, large palettes have come into fashion - they are convenient to take with you on trips and experiment with makeup (read about how to choose a suitable palette).

Shadow pencil

Shadow pencil is a salvation for those who have just begun to master this category of makeup products. They should be applied directly with a stick, thickly painting the eyelids. As a rule, pencil shadows are less pigmented than other types, so they can be distributed without fear of going overboard with the intensity of the shade. It is convenient to shade the color directly with your finger. Pencil shadows are especially good for those who are unable to achieve the smokey eye technique: a smoky effect can be created in two minutes by running the stick along the upper and lower edges of the eyelashes. And you're done!

Cream eyeshadow

Cream shadows are especially appreciated by makeup fans, because they blend as closely as possible with the texture of the skin. Unfortunately, most such soft products are not very durable and tend to quickly slide down in the folds of the eyelid. In this case, stock up on a good primer - it will help preserve your makeup until the evening.

Of course, there are also ultra- and even waterproof cream shadows. Of course, it is not necessary to apply a base underneath them. You can apply cream shadows either with brushes with artificial bristles or with your fingers: whatever is convenient for you. See our video for different options on how to apply cream eyeshadow.

Baked eyeshadow

Baked eyeshadow is a mixture of mineral pigments that are subsequently baked in a special way. So, the moisture evaporates, but all the minerals, pigments and shimmering particles remain. In appearance, baked shadows are not too different from classic powder shadows. The whole difference is visible upon application. They can be applied dry or wet. In the first case, they are slightly shiny, in the second, they create a foil effect on the eyelids.

Mineral eye shadow

Mineral shadows are made by micronizing or crushing minerals such as iron oxides, talc, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide into tiny particles. Mineral shadows gained popularity in the 1970s in America, when naturalness was at the height of fashion.

Today, the demand for mineral cosmetics is not subsiding. Its difference is that it does not contain a number of ingredients: emollient oils and waxes, fragrances and preservatives found in conventional formulas.

Mineral shadows are always released only in crumbly form. Their intensity may vary depending on the manufacturer brand.

Loose eye shadow

Loose shadows are similar to classic pressed ones, except that the pigments in them are not mixed with any binders. That’s why they have a loose, powdery consistency. Loose shadows are sold in miniature jars. Such products are especially loved by professional makeup artists. After all, with their help you can achieve any color intensity. It is recommended to apply them with a brush.

Liquid eye shadow

Liquid shadows are new to the beauty market. This formula has not been around for very long, but is already loved by many. Outwardly, they resemble lip gloss: a similar tube packaging and applicator for application. They often contain microparticles with glitter, creating a beautiful shimmering effect on the eyelids. When it comes to application, liquid shadows are one of the simplest: they do not crumble and are easy to shade.

Pearlescent or shimmery shadows

Many people today mistakenly consider pearlescent shadows to be outdated, remembering the fashion for them in the 1990s. However, modern formulas are a completely different story: they no longer have a foil-like shine, and the choice in shades has become much wider.

Pearlescent shadows are an excellent option for beginners in makeup, because they can be easily shaded and can be easily combined with any other textures.

Shimmering shadows are distinguished by the presence of small sparkles. Their base itself can be anything from shiny to matte. Both types of shadows, due to their radiance, look more appropriate in the evening under artificial lighting.

Matte eyeshadow

Among all types of shadows, matte ones look most natural (when using nude shades): they do not contain shiny particles, so they look like powder on the eyelids. But they are also the hardest to apply: their dry formula is difficult to blend.

Which matte eyeshadow is better to choose?

  • When choosing matte shadows, be sure to apply them to your fingertips and blend them onto the back of your hand. The best ones will be those whose texture most closely matches the description “silky”: such shadows will shade well and look natural.
  • It is better to set aside excessively dry shadows that resemble chalk in consistency.
  • Today, every beauty brand produces matte eyeshadow palettes that include four shades or more. The color combinations for them are selected by professional makeup artists, which means that each shade can be worn individually or mixed together.

Makeup with matte shadows

Matte shadows in soft earth tones or pastels are ideal for daytime makeup: they look natural and discreet. When creating evening makeup, pay attention to dark or rich colors: with these, the smokey eye effect looks especially good.

Matte shadows are also very convenient for making arrows: just moisten the brush with water and the matte texture will turn into a super-pigmented one, suitable for drawing lines. For more information on how to repeat this trick, watch our video tutorial:

Glitter eyeshadow

Glitter has been an undeniable trend for the last few seasons. For those who do not risk immediately applying glitter to their eyelids, as catwalk makeup artists did at shows, there is a safer option - eyeshadow with glitter.

An important point: the sparkles should be of medium size - not too small, otherwise there is a risk that it will look like a mother-of-pearl effect, but not too large.

Shiny shadows can be relevant day and evening. One condition: in daytime makeup, glitter should be the only accent on the face. Take an example from the models: a clean, as if unmade-up face, and glitter on the eyelids - with such makeup they look fresh and unpretentious.

How to apply eye shadow correctly: step-by-step photo and video tutorials

In makeup, there is no one right way to apply eye shadow: depending on the shape of your eyes, the texture of the shadow, the occasion, your personal habits and many other factors, eye shadow can be applied in completely different ways. But there are several most popular techniques that are used most often. Read more about them in our photo instructions and videos. Makeup using the “loop” technique

One of the oldest and most popular makeup techniques is quite simple to perform:

Blend light shadows with light shimmer over the entire surface.

Using a soft black or brown eyeliner, line along the lash line and make a “loop” upward toward the crease of the upper eyelid. Emphasize the line under the lower lashes.

Using the same pencil, shade the area behind the “loop,” darkening the corner of the eye.

How to replace the eyeshadow base?

The eye shadow base is the most important stage of eye makeup. It greatly enhances the shade of the shadows and guarantees their durability, and also works as a primer, hiding wrinkles and preventing the shadows from settling into the crease of the eyelid. In addition, the product perfectly mattifies the skin of the eyelids and prevents shadows from creasing throughout the day or evening. If you don’t have a special foundation on hand, use loose powder: spread it over your eyelids and apply shadow on top. This way they will last longer.

Shadow shading technique

To make your eyes more expressive, there is a basic principle for shading shadows:

First of all, determine your upper eyelid crease. The lightest shade is usually applied from the top lash line to the crease. Along the crease line, distribute the color a shade or two darker: it will make the crease more pronounced and add volume.

If you have a droopy upper eyelid and the crease is too low, blend the medium shade of eyeshadow a few millimeters above the crease. So, you will artificially lift the movable eyelid and make your eyes larger.

Using the same medium tone, lightly darken the outer corners of the upper eyelids: blend from the outer edge to the inner, bringing the brush to the middle of the eyelid. If we are talking about evening makeup, add a darker color to the crease and outer corner of the eyes.

  • An important point: makeup beginners often press the brush too hard, pressing it against the skin. This should not be done: all professional makeup artists use light, barely touching movements with the brush. Take your time, do everything step by step: proper shading requires a few minutes more time, but the result will impress you.

The last step is to sweep the same medium shade of shadow along the lower eyelid under the lash line.

  • A beautiful touch: with light shadows with sparkles, you can put a small accent in the middle of the upper eyelid and in the inner corner of the eyes - such a highlight will instantly make your look younger. The shades you use may vary, but the principle of shading remains the same.
  • Recently, monochrome eyelid makeup has come into fashion. He will not be able to adjust the shape and size of the eyes, but he looks original and fresh. For this look, you can even apply shadows with your fingers: spread one shade of shadow over the upper eyelid – matte or shimmery. Blend the edges of the color slightly. If desired, do the same with the lower eyelid. Ready!

What brushes are needed for eye makeup? 5 types

© site

Today, brushes for shading shadows can be found in the arsenal of almost all brands. For beginners, two types will be enough for the first time - a medium flat brush and a slightly fluffy one for shading. The first one will be able to distribute the color, the second one, of course, will carefully smooth out the tones among themselves and soften the edges. Select the bristles of your brushes in accordance with what kind of shadows you prefer: for cream shadows you need synthetic hairs, for powder ones - natural ones.

Basic eyeshadow brush

The brush has soft bristles and a rounded tip, ideal for applying and distributing eyeshadow. Its tip should be smaller than the size of your eyelid. Make sure that when working with a moving eyelid, the shadows are distributed evenly and the brush does not scratch the skin.

Blending brush

Elongated, rounded and fluffy, not too dense and more “loose” compared to the basic eyeshadow brush. Use it to blend out eye shadow or eyeliner, create a smoky look on your eyelids, or blend multiple shades.

Domed brush

These brushes allow you to pick up more pigment. Designed to blend shadows in the area under the eyebrow or along the lash line. This is convenient for creating clearer boundaries between two shades, as well as for blending cream and gel textures: concealer under the eyebrow, pencil along the eyelashes, cream shadows.

Eyelid crease brush

A small, dense brush with a slightly pointed tip is convenient for applying and blending eyeshadow in the crease of the eyelid. It is easy for her to blend the eyeliner along the eyelid or make brighter, more precise and darker accents in the crease.

Angled eyeshadow brush

If we are talking about a brush made of natural bristles, it will be useful for emphasizing the eyelash lines with shadows and for shading eyebrow shadows. If you have a synthetic bristle option, you can use this brush to fill in the missing hairs when making up your eyebrows.

Peculiarities

Pearlescent shadows are the most popular and loved by many women. They consist of small particles that have a metallic sheen. Also sometimes this effect is called shimmer, when sparkling particles predominate in the shadows. The texture allows you to make your eyes appear more open, remove a layer of fatigue and refresh your look. It’s very easy to see the capabilities of mother-of-pearl, you just need to take a little light shadow and apply it to the moving eyelid, the area under the eyebrows and to the inner corner of the eye.

It is recommended to use such shadows in creating images for walks, dates, and establishments. The main thing to remember is ideal eyelid skin. If there are wrinkles on it, it is better to abandon pearlescent shadows in favor of matte ones. Pearlescent shadows will not be able to correct the shape of the eye or make the look deep, but in combination with matte shadows you will achieve a striking effect (see photo).

Palette

It’s safe to say that in almost all collections of any brands - from the most elite, professional and famous - to budget options, the majority of eyeshadows produced are pearlescent. Therefore, choosing a suitable shade from a whole palette is not difficult. The most in demand are light shades of pearlescent shadows, as they are used as a highlighter in any makeup. Bright and rich summer shades will allow you to create many spring and summer looks. Calm and deep dark tones - warm and cold, suitable for evening and holiday makeup, autumn and business.

How to apply?

Shadows with mother-of-pearl are applied using special applicators. They usually come with eyeshadow sets. Unfortunately, they are not always easy to use. The applicator head is very small, the handles are short, they often slip and fall out of your hands. To use pearl shadows in eye makeup, it is best to purchase applicators separately, choosing ones with long handles and a comfortable head shape. You can apply such shadows with a wide flat brush, but applicators are still more convenient.

In order for shadows with mother-of-pearl not to emphasize imperfections, but to emphasize the beauty of the look, it is necessary to carefully study the condition of the skin around the eyes. These shadows are suitable for elastic, young skin, without a hint of wrinkles. Otherwise, such shadows will only make you look older.

Typically, shadows are applied only to the middle of the upper eyelid, under the eyebrow and in the corner of the eye. They are usually combined with matte ones. You can also do multi-layered makeup, only in this case use darker and deeper shades.

Makeup example

  1. Before you start painting your eyes, cover your eyelids with a special moisturizer, and then dust them with light translucent powder. Thanks to this, the shadows will fit much better on the eyelid, and the color will come out more saturated.
  2. Paint the upper eyelid with matte shadows in the main tone. Apply a darker shade to the outer corner of the eyelid. Carefully blend the transitions so that they are practically invisible.
  3. To create contrast, apply pearlescent shadows to the middle part of the upper eyelid, approximately in the area of the iris. The bright spot should only be on the eyelid.
  4. Paint the outer part of the fold with dark shadows. This area should be the darkest. Highlight the area above the fold with a grayish color.
  5. Apply light shadows, matching the tone of the main colors used in makeup, under the eyebrow, and also following an arc from the outer corner to the inner one. Blur all borders.
  6. If desired, you can line your eyes with eyeliner and apply mascara.

How to do this make-up - look at the photo.

And last but not least. If you use pearlescent shadows in your makeup, it is not recommended to combine them with shiny lipstick or shiny blush. The emphasis in makeup should be only on the eyes, otherwise the makeup will look too vulgar and tasteless.
