Every mom knows that getting ready for school, you need to buy a lot of different things. And the children ask that they buy all the brightest and most beautiful. But many school supplies can be made independently. Pencil cases, bookmarks and covers for handmade books can be no worse, or maybe even better, than factory ones.

For example, a pencil case in the form of a funny cat can appeal to both boys and girls.

Materials required for the manufacture of the "Kitty" pencil case:

  • - orange fleece
  • - any cotton fabric for lining;
  • - felt in bright green and scabbard-pink colors;
  • - a short zipper in orange, pink or red;
  • - two black beads;
  • - scissors;
  • - sewing threads in orange, black and pink;
  • - a needle.

The procedure for making a pencil case "Cat"

1. Cut out a paper pattern of a pencil case of this shape and size, as shown in the photo.

2. Using a pencil case pattern, cut out two identical parts from cotton fabric with small allowances for seams (about 0.5 cm on each side). From these parts we will make a lining for a pencil case.

3. Cut one piece of the lining as shown in the photo. In this place on the pencil case there will be a clasp and at the same time a cat's mouth.

4. Now cut out two identical parts from orange fleece. On one part we will make the same cut as on the part made of cotton fabric. It is necessary to ensure that the cuts are on the same level, otherwise the parts will not match when stitching.

5. Sew a zipper to the fleece part at the cut point.

6. Wrap the lower part of the fleece pencil case as in the photo and sew the lower part of the lining to the zipper.

7. Now wrap the top part of the fleece case and sew the top part of the lining to the zipper.

8. Straighten the details of the pencil case with a zipper sewn to them and sew the parts of the pencil case made of fleece and cotton together along the edge. The front of the pencil case is ready.

9. This is how it looks from the front.

10. Now let's take the uncut parts of the pencil case made of fleece and cotton fabric, fold them inside out and sew along the edge on a sewing machine. The back of the pencil case is also ready.

11. On the front of the pencil case, slightly open the zipper. This is necessary so that later, after stitching, we can turn the pencil case inside out. We fold the front and back of the pencil case with the front sides, fasten them with pins or sew with a basting seam.

12. Sew the front and back parts on the sewing machine. Pull out pins or basting thread. After that, sew the edges with a zigzag seam. Cut off the excess part of the zipper.

13. Turn out the pencil case and check if the zipper is fastened. The base for the pencil case is ready, now it needs to be decorated.

14. Unzip the zipper. Cut out a small nose in the form of an oval from pink felt. Sew the spout with pink threads with small stitches of the buttonhole. Sew bead eyes over the nose with black thread.

15. With black threads, embroider three small antennae on the sides of the spout.

16. From bright green felt, cut out a rectangle 4 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. From it we will make a bow for our cat.

17. Let's pick up a rectangle in the center - we get a butterfly bow. Let's sew it to the pencil case. Now our cat has become elegant.

An unusual pencil case in the form of a funny cat is ready. Pencils, pens, felt-tip pens and even a small ruler fit well in it. With such a pencil case, the child will have more fun going to school and doing homework. Yes, and classmates will immediately notice this pencil case and, perhaps, ask to sew the same one for them.

It has already become an established tradition to purchase school supplies in stationery stores. But it is quite possible to make the most necessary attributes of a student - for example, a simple pencil case for pens and pencils - with your own hands. Such a product will compare favorably with the accessories of other children. And every time the child takes it in his hands, he will be able to feel the warmth of the care of mother's, grandmother's or sister's hands. There are different ways to make canisters from different types of material.

Let's get started!

Pencil case from the box

The simplest but most interesting do-it-yourself school pencil case can be made from an ordinary box. It is enough to put a velvet or leather lining on its bottom, and paste over the walls with beautiful paper. A box made of unpainted cardboard looks no less original and very stylish.

Pencil case made of cardboard cylinder and fabric

You can make a pencil case from a cardboard cylinder and fabric. For this you will need:

  • one sufficiently wide and long cardboard cylinder or two shorter cylinders with the same diameter;
  • piece of fabric;
  • zipper;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • sewing thread and needle;
  • stationery knife.

If we use one cylinder, then we cut it into two parts of unequal height - one should be shorter, the other longer.

If we use two cylinders, then we cut off half from one, which we use together with the second whole cylinder.

We circle the bottom of the cylinder in advance on thick cardboard and fabric. We make two cardboard and two fabric mugs.

We take a piece of fabric, the width of which should be enough to wrap the cylinder, leaving a little material on the edge. According to the height of the short part of the cylinder, we outline the distance from the edge of the prepared piece of fabric, make a cut. We sew a zipper between the resulting narrow and wide pieces of material.

We fold the resulting piece of fabric along the front side inward, sew along the edge.

We insert long and short cardboard cylinders into the resulting case, matching them with a zipper. (The side seam of the cover remains outside).

Below and above we substitute pre-cut cardboard and fabric circles. Along the edge, we sew a fabric circle to the cover put on the cylinder.

You can put a cotton pad between the cardboard and the fabric - for volume and softness.

After sewing, remove the cover and turn it on the front side. We put on the cylinders again. We glue.

DIY leather pencil case

An easier option on how to make a pencil case for a school with your own hands is to use a rectangular patch of bright leather to create it. With the help of a clerical knife, along the ruler, in a checkerboard pattern, we make parallel cuts on it.

In each of these cuts, like rods in a basket, pencils or pens will be inserted.

Having rolled up the pencil case with a tube, we intercept it with a beautiful ribbon, the edges of which can be sewn to a leather flap.

Felt pencil case

A charming, soft pencil case for markers or felt-tip pens can be made from felt.

To make such a pencil case, we need:

  • Braid
  • glue gun

Cut out a rectangular piece. We can estimate the size by laying out markers on it. Apply glue between the markers, as shown in the photo. The gap between the markers will be 2.5 - 3 cm.

We bend the bottom of the fabric, gluing it between the markers.

We get markers. We apply strips of glue for ribbons.

We glue the ribbons. Cut off the excess.

We turn the pencil case over and apply glue for the ribbon with which we will wrap the pencil case. A strip of glue should not be more than 5-6 cm on the right or left side of the pencil case.

We glue the tape. Please note that the tape is not glued along the entire length.

We wrap it in a tube along with markers.

We cut one of the blanks into two parts. We sew a zipper into it.

On the front part we sew a mustache, nose and beady eyes.

We sew two blanks from the inside.

We turn out the craft. We sew the paws with a thick thread, making them look like cat claws. Pencil case-cat - ready!

How to sew a simple pencil case from fabric or oilcloth?

This simple version of the pencil case can be made from both ordinary dense fabric and fabric-based oilcloth. To make a pencil case, we need the material itself, a zipper, scissors and pins.

It will be most convenient to make a pencil case based on the size of the zipper. We cut out two identical rectangles from our material along a length equal to the size of the zipper.

We arrange the material in relation to the lightning as shown in the photo.

We sew the material to the zipper with threads. This is a temporary stitch. After we make a seam on a typewriter, we will remove the temporary seam.

We make a line on a sewing machine.

We sew with a temporary seam manually the second part of the material in a mirror.

There is an opinion that a pencil case for pens and other small office supplies is purely an accessory for schoolchildren or students. In fact, a miniature pouch for writing instruments is useful in any home. Even if one ballpoint pen and an eraser can be found in the apartment during the most thorough inspection, it is better that these items have a specific storage place. It is convenient and practical. Everyone, perhaps, will agree that every thing in the house should be in its place.

In addition, it is not at all necessary to spend money (and large ones) on the purchase of a handbag, since it is quite simple to sew a pencil case yourself. In addition, there are models of pen cases that do not require the use of a needle and thread at all to create them.

First organizer

With the advent of a child in the house, parents try to diversify the leisure of the baby, and at the same time comprehensively develop it. It is difficult to find a better occupation than drawing for this. After about a year, the first pencils, colored pens, felt-tip pens and brushes for paints begin to appear in children. All this goodness is accumulated and lying around in all corners and bedside tables, annoying a tired dad and adding work to a tortured mother.

How to sew a pencil case, it will be useful for parents of young children to learn. First, the kid will like to put pencils in a colorful container. Secondly, for his mother, this is a great opportunity to practice and develop creative skills by making such a little thing for the child.

You should not start the first delights with too complex models. It will be enough to sew a simple bag-case with a drawstring. The work will take a couple of minutes of free time. A fabric bag can be decorated with braid, buttons, rhinestones or beads. These will be just a godsend, because they can be very bright and colorful. You can change them at least every week. And the boys love handbags of this kind for their unpretentious and modest appearance.

For different needs

Before starting work, it is important to think over the model of the future pencil case, calculate its size, capacity and durability. All these factors must be considered before sewing a pencil case, because it will be a shame if writing or drawing supplies do not fit into the purse.

The container for the office is different. Such gizmos differ in their structure. One of the simplest options is a single division case with a zipper. With due diligence, this model is modified. Then the inner space is divided into two or three additional sections, each of which is closed with a zipper.

Such pencil cases differ in shape and size. They can be made in the form of a cylinder, a parallelepiped, or even an animal. Below is a pattern of a pencil case in the form of a shark. It is not difficult to make such a miracle with your own hands, the main thing is to follow the instructions, given the fact that it is much easier to work with synthetic non-slip fabrics. Here's what you need to do:

  • Connect the parts of the shark's belly together and make the bottom of the pencil case by sewing the elements on a sewing machine.
  • The cut out details of the back are also sewn together, not forgetting to build up the fins.
  • Starting with the shark's nose, you need to connect the stomach and back, moving towards the tail. Don't forget to leave room for the clasp, which will also serve as "teeth" for predatory fish.
  • If desired, the eyes of the shark can be made from buttons or other sewing accessories.

What to sew a pencil case from?

As it was clarified a little above, it is much easier for a beginner to work with fabrics that are dense and non-slip to the touch. It can be a piece of old jeans, or just a small piece of colorful satin cotton material). Also suitable jacket, raincoat, upholstery fabric.

Felt pencil cases are very interesting in terms of work and the end result. This material does not require processing, because its sections do not crumble, it is enough to simply overcast the inner and outer seams by hand, and to make the details more attractive and cute, they are cut out with special scissors with serrated blades. This technique is also relevant for natural and artificial leather, suede.

For sewing some types of pencil cases, you don’t even need a pencil case pattern. Moreover, such work can be done without making a single stitch. All you need is a rectangular piece of fabric, a ruler, a pencil or crayon, and scissors. In the fabric cut, you need to make small notches that will serve as loops for pencils and pens. Holders are made along almost the entire length of the workpiece, with the exception of the front part, into which a multi-colored roll will be wrapped. In order for the pencil case not to open, from the side where there are no cuts, you need to attach a braid or ribbon of sufficient length. Wrapped around the pencil case, it will securely fix everything that is folded inside it and decorate the product.

Pencil bag for one division

The most popular have always been pencil cases for girls. Little fashionistas from a young age love neatness and order. They are happy to use a variety of accessories for this. The attention of needlewomen is presented with another one with which you can sew a cute pencil case. Note that this model has a zipper. In addition, it is equipped with a lining.

This bag is big and roomy. It will come in handy not only for the baby with her colorful treasures, but also for the mother when she urgently needs a cosmetic bag. If you don’t have a beautiful fastener with a large and comfortable slider at hand, it doesn’t matter. To the usual "tongue" with a zipper, you can tie a ribbon or a small one or beads. Then it will not be difficult even for a small child to open the pencil case. Below is a pattern for this item.

Plastic bottle pencil case

A significant drawback of textile covers is rapid wear. They are torn in a backpack, rubbed from the outside and stained with ink from the inside. Children tend to forget to close the caps from felt-tip pens, and hiding the rod in an automatic pen inside is, in general, overwhelming work for them. It is very easy to avoid troubles and misunderstandings with ink stains. Simple plastic bottles will come to the rescue. Of these, you can also make containers for the office.

Perplexed readers will definitely ask themselves the question: how to sew a plastic pencil case for a school? We will make a reservation that in this case, sewing can be partially or completely avoided. The photo shows a short workshop on working with bottles. For one pencil case you need two. Of the special tools, as seen in the image, you will need a glue gun. If there is none at hand, the zipper can be sewn on by hand by making holes on the bottle with a thick needle or awl.

Pencil case without patterns and fabric

Sewing in zippers is the biggest challenge for many seamstresses, especially if they are new to the job. Now everyone who was so afraid of working with naughty fasteners will be able to overcome their phobia, because they will learn how to sew a pencil case only from zippers. For work, you need 7-8 fasteners of the same length. It can be hidden zippers, tractor zippers or the most common ones. The main condition is to use the same fasteners in one work. Their color does not matter at all: the more shades used, the brighter the pencil case will come out.

Before it is important to believe in the serviceability of each zipper, unbuttoning and fastening their sliders. Seizing and defective fasteners should be replaced with new ones. Zippers must be sewn alternately along the length. The result is a multi-colored rectangle. By connecting the extreme fasteners on the wrong side, you will get something like a pipe. Its end parts (those where the bundles of clamps are assembled) must be properly fastened with threads and a needle. In such a simple way, you can sew a pencil case with minimal cost and effort, but most importantly - with an amazing end result.

I had almost zero until yesterday, I thought to get away with the fact that I had recently given birth, and, like, everything is forgiven me.))) But the conscience is such a thing ... presses.))

Yeah, okay, I just had an idea yesterday. Pencil case in the form of a tank!

Our son is 6 years old, he loves everything military, besides, he has been asking for a new pencil case for a long time, the zipper broke on the old one. And then you understand whether two in one - a military pencil case!

And today I embodied yesterday's idea. Very satisfied.

There are two sections in the pencil case: with a zipper for pencils and at the top there is a hatch (like a real one!) with Velcro for an eraser and a sharpener. And there is even a gun! Stuffed tightly with synthetic winterizer.

I made up a pattern on the go, and, of course, I was in a hurry to catch it before the children arrived. The pencil case is pleasant, quilted with padding polyester.

The book is also no coincidence.

The fact is that recently we learned that there is such a cool cartoon "About Sidorov Vova", auth. Uspensky. In general, I love Uspensky and Zakhoder more than anyone, they write with humor.

We liked the cartoon very much - instructive and funny! We decided to buy such a book for Vasya as a gift, but we didn’t find it anywhere on sale, except from the hands - we ordered it from Tolyatti. The book is a rare 1988 and slightly shabby, but it does not matter.

The pencil case, by the way, made it spacious, you can put a ruler and it’s generally convenient to shove pencils.

A great gift for a student - a pencil case for stationery.

For this we need:

  • - 2 types of fabric
  • - cardboard (thin corrugated cardboard from boxes or 1.1 mm beer cardboard - it is soft and well stitched)
  • - interlining
  • - thin synthetic winterizer
  • - gossamer glue
  • - elastic
  • - textile decorations

To begin with, I measured the pocket of the briefcase and decided on the dimensions - I got a pencil case measuring 14 by 19cm and a spine of 3cm. And the dimensions of the pattern turned out like this:

Length: 14+3+14+5cm and plus allowances of 0.75cm =37.5cm

Width: 19 + 2 allowances of 0.75cm = 20.5

We choose a suitable fabric - probably not very light for the outside (I have a fabric with owls) and, suitable in tone, for the inside (I have it with umbrellas).

Cut out 2 rectangles 37.5 by 20.5 cm.

Because I will have a layer of synthetic winterizer - I glue it to the wrong side of the fabric that I chose for outdoor decoration. I glue with the help of a cobweb glue - this is a non-woven material that is used to glue parts, melts with an iron, I buy not a narrow strip, but a canvas (sold in fabric departments, usually lies with interlining). Here is my cake - fabric, cobweb and synthetic winterizer. The cobweb and synthetic winterizer are cut out without taking into account allowances, ironed from the side of the fabric and through the paper.

Here you can see a piece of cobweb, if someone does not know what it looks like))

I planted the fabric with umbrellas on interlining, taking into account allowances, and also ironed it through paper.

Because my pencil case closes with a vertical elastic band, then I hem it in advance. But you can choose another clasp option.

I have a velvet elastic, so I lay it face up on the inner fabric and fix it with a few stitches. Just don't mix up the sides where you want to make the elastic.

Now we fold our patterns face to face, fix with pins and sew on three sides. I drew lines for myself to stitch more evenly.

I cut off the excess fabric in the corners and made small notches there.

Then twisted and ironed. This is what the inside looks like now

and so is the outside.

Stepping back 5 cm, I sew the 1st vertical line - this is the part of the pencil case that will wrap a little inward, forming a smell.

Now I cut out 2 rectangles from cardboard to insert them inside, I have them 14 by 19 cm, but it’s better to double-check with a ruler.

We insert 1 rectangle inside and sew the 2nd vertical line close to the cardboard (I made small marks for myself).

3rd vertical line - after 3 cm, this is our spine, I have it soft, without cardboard.

We insert 2 cardboard boxes and fill the fabric inside, you can iron it to fix the fabric in the desired position.

And we sew.

The pencil case is almost ready, it remains to sew on the elastic bands.

We put our stationery and make small marks for ourselves where we want to flash it.

I chose a wide velvet elastic band and a sewing accessories department, it is denser than usual and the ends do not fray when trimmed, but I still melted them a little with matches.

We sew the elastic first to the back side, the seams will pass from the outside. But I deliberately chose this option so that the elastic bands were fixed well. We sew 3 times - forward, backward and again forward. The outer front side can be decorated with textile decorations and it is better to fix them before we sew the elastic inside. Therefore, I lay a small decor on the outside and in some places go through the typewriter with a few vertical lines.

Decorated a little - 3 woven flowers, prima velvet leaves and a pair of silk green leaves, stamens, a shabby ribbon and a ribbon with leaves.

This is how it looks inside

Now sew the elastic on the second side

A couple more pieces below for erasers and sharpeners, put our accessories and admire))

Additionally, I glued the brads with the help of a pistol (I cut off their legs) and a chip.

On the wrong side - a wooden plate Hand made with a rose.
