Along with the first snow, the time for the most fun and favorite holiday of the year is approaching - New Year. New Year 2017 according to the eastern calendar will be the year of the Red (or Fire) Rooster.
One of the oldest in the world Eastern calendar was compiled five thousand years ago. There are many legends associated with its appearance. In them it is called the Great Circle of Time.

The calendar has twelve equal parts, as if someone had cut a birthday cake into pieces. Pieces of the cake were distributed among the eleven animals and the Dragon to give names to the parts of the Great Circle of Time.

The Legend of the Eastern Calendar

They say that in the old days they did not know how to count the years. People were taught this by the Jade Lord Yu-di, the Lord of Heaven. One day he asked his assistants to bring to him twelve of the most worthy earthly creatures. The assistants went in search and found eleven animals and the Dragon. At the appointed time, the following appeared in the halls of the Heavenly Palace: Dragon, Bull, Horse, Monkey, Rooster, Snake, Goat, Pig, Tiger, Rabbit, Dog, Cat and Rat. The Cat and the Rat are friends like water, in those days they were always together and they also came together to meet Emperor Yu-di.

The Lord of Heaven intended to choose twelve rulers of Time. After all, there were just so many places in the Great Circle of Time. Welcoming those who came, Heavenly Lord Yu-di noted with surprise that more applicants appeared before him than he had called. After thinking a bit. Yu-di announced that tomorrow at dawn those who came must swim across the River of Time. He will be waiting for them on the opposite bank with magical gifts - caskets with the years of the reign of Time. Whoever arrives first will become the master of the first year of the Circle of Time; whoever is last will not receive a valuable gift!

In the evening, the animals and the Dragon gathered by the fire to rest before the test. Everyone was thinking about how to be the first to cross the River. Among them, five sat gloomier than thunderclouds. These were the Goat, the Rooster, the Monkey and two inseparable friends - the Cat and the Rat. They were sad because they could not swim. After everyone had left, true friends - the Cat and the Rat - went aside to whisper. They knew that of all the animals the Bull was the most simple-minded and sympathetic, and they decided to deceive him.

The cunning people caught the Bull in his garden. He was so hardworking that he could not sleep without visiting his beds. The Cat and the Rat turned to him with the following words: - Dear Ox, you swim better than anyone, and you are so strong and resilient! It’s just a pity that you see so poorly, and it will be difficult for you to find your way... - You’re right, guys, but what to do? - To help you, we could all swim together! The cat, who has such keen eyes, would show you the way... We will make a winner out of you, Bull! - You are true friends, thank you very much! I will immediately make a wooden raft, which I will tie to my back, so that it will be more convenient for you to float on me. How beautifully you came up with everything! On that they agreed.

At night, the Rat could not sleep, she so wanted to win! I really wanted to be the first! She is the smallest and most inconspicuous of all animals, and now the moment has come when she will prove to everyone that she also means something. Rats are very smart animals, so a solution was found, the main thing is to remember to take a tall and elastic pole with you...

Morning came and we had to go. It was difficult to imagine a more comfortable raft made by Bull for his friends. He even made a small armchair for the Rat.

The cat settled between the horns on the Bull's head and indicated the direction where to swim.

And so, when they had almost reached the opposite bank of the River, the Rat took his pole, poked it into the Bull’s neck, pushed off from the raft and - JUMP! - Landed, jumping over the Bull and the coastal water.

The trouble is that when she jumped, she hit the Cat, and he fell into the River.

He almost drowned; a strong current picked him up and carried him into the depths. It’s good that the poor Cat grabbed onto the fish house and was not dragged far from the shore.

The Mighty Bull, feeling the ground under his hooves, rose from the water. His glasses slipped down and he didn't notice everything that happened.

A Rat flashed ahead of him, waving his paw somewhere to the side, and the Bull followed her. And the traitor Rat, she was so thirsty for victory that, leaving her friend in trouble, she rushed to the Heavenly Palace. They appeared before Lord Yu-di: first the nimble Rat came running, followed by a tired Bull.

- I see the first beast rulers of the Great Circle of Time. Rat, you disappointed me! As promised, I give you the first year of reign... But the retribution for your victory will be bitter! The consequences will affect you and your descendants until the end of time! You, Bull, get next year as a reward for your kindness and endurance!

Then the Tiger, the most noble of all animals, appeared on the approach. He saw how the Bull was trying, how hard it was for him to swim with a bulky raft on his back, and did not overtake him. The tiger was also happy with the third place awarded to him for his generosity. He reverently took the casket with the gift into his paws and began to look at it.

Yu-di gave the fourth year of his reign in the Great Circle of Time to the nimble Rabbit. He cheerfully galloped over the pebbles, keeping his balance with the help of a sun umbrella. The rabbit received a year of reign for his gentle, sunny disposition.

Everyone knows that the main task of Dragons is to protect lands, treasures, family values and traditions. He always carries the most important treasures with him, putting them in clay vessels and tying them to his back. All dragons are very fast and formidable creatures, and it would not have been difficult for our Dragon to reach the Heavenly Palace first that morning. But dragons never forget their true purpose. First he had to keep order in his possessions and collect the wealth entrusted to him. Only after fulfilling his duty, he went to the Heavenly Palace and arrived only fifth. The Jade Emperor awarded him a year of reign for his dedication to his cause.
The horse crossed the River by swimming, but on the shore she noticed an Anthill standing in the tall grass. Ants scurried back and forth around him, and there was no way to pass without crushing one of the glorious workers. Suddenly a Snake crawled out of the River! Agile and agile, she slipped past the Horse and the ants and received the sixth year of reign for her worldly wisdom.

When the Horse got out of the grass, carefully walking around all the buildings and inhabitants of the Anthill, it came to the palace of the Heavenly Palace. The Jade Lord awarded her the seventh year of reign - for her compassion and care! Remember, at the beginning of the fairy tale, it turned out that five animals could not swim? We know how the Cat and Rat decided to deal with this, but what did the Goat, Monkey and Rooster do? The three of them built a raft! The smart and observant Monkey saw how the Ox was doing it and decided to do the same. The important Rooster managed the construction, and the Goat, who always unites everyone in friendly companies, helped them in everything. They spent the whole night collecting brushwood, and in the morning they tied it and fastened it. What would you think? Friendship, and ropes, of course! They were the very last to set sail, pushed off the bottom with long poles and, in the end, got there!

Yu-di handed the eighth, ninth and tenth years of the Circle of Time to the glorious trinity of friends. Since it was difficult to choose the order, the emperor distributed the gifts according to height: first to the Goat - for the ability to unite a team, then to the Monkey - for his tenacious mind and ingenuity, and to the Rooster - for his talent to distribute responsibilities and control everything. The Jade Lord's competition brought the three beasts' hearts together; they didn't care that others had come ahead of them. The most important thing was that they found each other!

Among the animals there was another good swimmer - the Pig. She quickly crossed the River and could have been among the first owners of the caskets with gifts from Yu-di, if not for her love of dirt. The pig did not miss a single puddle, and this time, not finding the strength to leave the warm mud, she remained lying on the shore.

The next one to emerge from the water was a wet and tired Dog. He coughed loudly, “woof-woof, woof-woof,” because he had a cold. After all, the Dog was very responsible and protected everyone in the world. It was important for him to make sure that everything was in order at home and that the competing animals had crossed to the other side. The dog was torn between the house and the River, rushing back and forth, so he caught a cold when, hot from running, he rushed into the cold water. Now the descendants of the Dog bark all the time, as if coughing.
Coming out onto land, he reminded the Pig why she had climbed into the River in the first place, and trudged off to the Heavenly Palace. The responsible Guard Dog got his eleventh year. Behind him, the Pig arrived to the throne of Yu-di. Reluctantly crawling out of the coastal mud, she trotted off for the twelfth year! And the Jade Lord handed her Last year reign of Time for the ability to enjoy life.

I think such kind and attentive children like you cannot help but worry: what happened to the Cat? He got out of the River when all twelve gifts from the Jade Emperor Yu-di had been distributed. The ruler himself had already disappeared behind the clouds, and the rulers of the Great Circle of Time stood on the threshold, enjoying the victory. The Rabbit's ears stood up, he looked down at the Cat, and his heart was full of compassion. The Rabbit, who loves peace in everything, joyfully decided that he and the Cat will rule together! Therefore, there is still confusion in different calendars: who owns the fourth year, the Cat or the Rabbit? But you and I know how it all happened!
The nearly dead Cat looked sadly from the foot of the mountain at the traitor who pushed him. They used to be friends - now the Rat will never live in peace again! As predicted, the entire rat race suffers for the Rat’s deceit. There is not a single rat or mouse in the world that is not afraid of cats. All their lives these cunning creatures are forced to hide in holes so that they are not overtaken by the tenacious claws of the descendants of the deceived Cat.

During testing periods, everyone’s character is clearly visible, which is why the Heavenly Lord arranged a competition for the future rulers of Time. He wanted the true strengths and weaknesses of the Dragon and the beasts to be revealed.

How to make a cockerel from salt dough?

    One of the most inexpensive, but very good material for modeling is salty dough. You can sculpt anything from it, it lends itself very well to your hands and holds its shape well.

    There are several options for salt dough that are suitable for modeling, but experts distinguish several recipes for large crafts, for small and for delicate works.

    The universal dough must be kneaded from the following ingredients: take one glass of salt and flour, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and half a glass of water. To make the dough more flexible, water can be replaced with starch jelly.

    Salt for the dough should be finely ground, then the dough will be more homogeneous.

    Once the dough is mixed, put it in the refrigerator for several hours. And only then start sculpting. This dough will replace plasticine very well and crafts made from it will last longer. The finished figurine must be dried in the oven or in the sun. You can paint a dough figurine in different colors or open it with acrylic varnish.

    Salt dough is perhaps the most economical material. Everything is always at hand. Let's make this cockerel from salt dough.

    First, we will form the body of our bird in the form of a droplet.

    Then we sculpt the tail and wings. We sculpt the details to the body.

    The next step is to sculpt the beard, beak and comb. Emphasize these details; the cockerel’s are large, larger than the hen’s.

    Crafts for children for the New Year 2017 are not difficult to make if you approach the process responsibly. You can make a symbol of the Year of the Rooster from salt dough according to this pattern, then paint it with bright colors in several layers and even bake it in an oven, and then place it in a frame and hang it on the wall.

    more details here.

    Thank you very much for the MK and for the different salt dough recipes!

    Salt dough is one of the most beneficial materials for modeling various figures. A well-kneaded dough will take the shape you want it to have.

    It also lends itself very well to painting with acrylic paints; the top can be coated with colorless varnish.

    If you try, you can make a cockerel like this.

    Salt dough cockerel not difficult to do.

    my main thing is to make good play dough. I’ll be trite, but I’ll repeat once again that for the dough you should use very fine salt so that the mass is homogeneous and pleasant. We take everything one by one (salt, cold water, flour). Now it’s worth adding that if we are making a figurine and not a picture, then we will need to take foil. We use it for the body so that the cockerel dries thoroughly. We roll up the foil, no, we just crumple it with our hands. We create a ball that we wrap in dough. Then we sculpt the head and neck separately, and then we connect all the parts. You can wet your fingers a little with water so that the parts stick together well and the joint is not visible. Then color the dough a little red and make a scallop. Let's connect. if you feel that the parts are not securely fastened, you can mix a little PVA with water. Eyes can be made from beads or black dough. Large parts can also be painted immediately. But this is whatever is more convenient for you. You can also further develop the coloring of the feathers). The beak can be made with yellow dough, but the tail can be fancy. Let the product dry for about overnight. This is if you dry it without an oven. We cover it with any varnish.
  • I like this kind of salt dough cockerel. First sculpt separately the head, beak, head, wings, tail, comb. Then connect all the parts, dry them and paint them the way you want. A compact craft, but very bright and textured.

    Thank you very much for the MK and for the different recipes for salt dough!

    First, let's look at several recipes for salt dough, which will be the basis of the craft.

    Flat figurine of a rooster

    Salt dough as a material for crafts attracts many with its affordability, and making a figurine itself can be turned into an exciting team effort for the whole family and a great way to spend weekend hours. There are several stages in the work process that can be assigned to everyone: mom will knead the dough, dad will cut out the figure according to the template, grandma will bake finished toy, and the children will paint it with paints.

    If you are already thinking about how to make a rooster out of salt dough, let’s first find a suitable picture for the template (you can use the Internet) and prepare the material itself. For this we need:

    • 1 tbsp flour;
    • 0.5 tbsp salt (fine);
    • 0.5 tbsp water;
    • 1 tbsp. l. vegetable oil.

    Place the components in a container and mix well, you can use a mixer. The dough should be free of lumps and not stick to your hands. To make a beautiful rooster from salt dough with your own hands, you need to follow the following sequence of actions:

    1. Cut out the template. Roll out the dough from the dough and place the finished picture on it.
    2. Carefully cut the outline of the design along the dough.
    3. When the workpiece is ready, mark on it the comb, eyes, tail feathers, legs, wings and place in the oven until dry.
    4. Take out the bird and, using your imagination, paint it in different colors.
    5. At the final stage, open the figurine with varnish: acrylic, artistic, construction or transparent for nails.

    When the cockerel dries, glue the hanger to it and you can proudly hang it on the tree.

    Volumetric rooster made from salt dough

    Three-dimensional characters can be made from the same dough. This is not at all difficult, and after making a rooster from salt dough in the master class, you can introduce your kids to this. In addition to the test, the recipe for which we are already familiar with, you need to acquire:

    • toothpicks;
    • with a fork;
    • funnel;
    • tassels;
    • paints;
    • toothed wheel for pasties;
    • bottle;
    • stack.

    We begin to make a rooster from salt dough and a chicken in the clearing:

    1. Wrap the bottle in rolled out dough and moisten the joint. Place some more dough at the bottom and smooth out the joints.
    2. Using a pastry wheel, cut out wings from the rolled out dough.
    3. Make an isosceles triangle from the dough, which will become the tail. Place three circles on the edge moistened with water (the base of the figure).
    4. Apply stripes to the tail and make indentations in the centers of the circles using a funnel.
    5. Attach the wings to the body, apply a pattern on them with a wheel, and on the body with a fork.
    6. For the head, make a small ball of dough and in it - a depression the size of the neck of the bottle, moisten this place with water and put it on the bottle.
    7. Make a beak, eyes, comb and beard. After they dry, attach them to the workpiece, after wetting the attachment points with water.
    8. Moisten the side of the tail with water and attach it to the bird.
    9. For the chicken you need to roll two balls and wings.
    10. After the parts have dried, you need to stick a toothpick into the larger ball and put the smaller part on it, glue the eyes, beak and wings.
    11. Use a stack of dough to cut out a clearing, and use pasta to make flower prints on it.

    When all the elements of the composition are ready, all that remains is to arrange them beautifully and connect them together. This is how easy it is to get original jewelry for home? .

    Progress:

    First, let's prepare salty dough, for this we need to mix 1 cup of salt and 1.5 cups of flour. To stir thoroughly. It is best to use wheat flour. Gradually pour 0.5 cups of ice water into the flour and salt. Mix with your hands. At first glance, you might think that there is very little water and you want to add more, but under no circumstances add it, otherwise the dough will not learn. The next step is to add to dough 2-3 tbsp PVA glue.

    Dough It should be soft, not sticky, and keep its shape! Is our the dough is almost ready. Now wrap it in cling film and put it in the refrigerator. Let stand for at least 2 hours.

    Congratulations! The dough is ready!

    2 hours have passed, let's get it dough.

    For convenience, I rolled out dough directly on baking paper (lightly grease it with vegetable oil).

    Let's take ours dough and start rolling out. You choose the thickness yourself, I did about 0.5 cm. Having rolled out the pancake, we put a stencil on it and begin to slowly cut it out. Instead of cutting, the child works with a stack; an adult is more comfortable with a knife or other sharp object. I used a steamer. The lines are smoother)

    Like this we have a cockerel!

    We make additional wings, eyes, beak, and beard and connect them with cockerel, adding a little water with a brush.

    Let's bake our cockerel in a preheated oven to 50-80 degrees, for 20-25 minutes.

    Now we take out our craft and let it cool. If it's a little browned, it's okay, the colors will cover everything up)

    My daughter designed it like this way:

    If you want your the cockerel was not so bright, apply the first layer of white paint. Let dry and then paint.

    To cockerel“shine”, you need to cover it with a clear varnish after it has completely dried.

    For comparison, the photo above, the breast is varnished, the tail is not.

    Now we can decorate our handsome man. We used feathers.

    In conclusion it turned out so wonderful cockerel!

    I wish you all good luck! Create beauty with your children. Fine motor skills is very important for the development of a child, and your baby will also be proud and happy in creating a bright, colorful picture with his own hands.

Cockerels made of paper and on paper

Making cards with the kids

If you are not a professional cardmaker, then before you start creating cards, be sure to read our article “Learning to make New Year cards with your own hands using the Scrapbooking technique.” In it you will not only find many ideas, but also get acquainted with the basic rules for creating postcards.

Any cockerel drawn by your child can be placed on a postcard. If it’s difficult for your child to figure out how to draw a rooster with his own hands, then show him this step-by-step instructions:

And then, it’s a matter of technology. Cut out the cockerel and make it the centerpiece of the composition. For example, your card can be this simple but cute. Use in your work New Year's paper and a bright red ribbon, add snowflakes, twigs and other holiday paraphernalia. Once you have a basic idea, the process of creating a card becomes much easier!

Photo from the site http://itsapatchworklife.blogspot.ru

If your child likes to color black and white pictures, give him this opportunity. Print the card template with a cockerel on thick cardboard and let your child get to work. Next, by cutting out the ball blank, you can add to the card voluminous snowflakes, adhesive half-beads imitating christmas balls etc. etc. Give free rein to your imagination with your baby))

YOU WILL NEED IT

8 more templates for coloring, as well as 2 step by step instructions for drawing more realistic roosters you will find in the archive, which you can download quickly and for free!

Take note of the idea with a cockerel on a stick, like on Elena Yurchenko’s postcard. Her cockerels are cut out of felt, or you can cut them out of paper.

Roosters made of colored paper

An applique made of colored paper can also be placed on greeting card. But such an application can itself act as a postcard. To draw and carefully cut out all the details, children will need the help of their parents, but they can glue them themselves.

Olga-15 suggests making funny cockerels out of paper in her master class.

The Rooster blank is a rectangular sheet of flexible paper or thin cardboard, folded in half lengthwise. Its size is 13.5x10 cm. We make 7-10 inclined slits along the fold line (approximately every 1 cm). Their angle of inclination is 50-70 degrees, and their depth is ¾ of the height of the folded sheet.

Ekaterina Ivanova in her video tutorial shows how to make a red rooster using the Origami technique:

Roosters using Quilling technique

A very interesting idea is to lay out only a luxurious rooster tail from quilling paper. It's not as hassle as laying out a whole rooster, and it can turn out very impressive! Here is a rooster without a tail as a basis (see the photo below for how it looked in the original).

Print it on a color printer, and then fantasize about the tail. As an example, here is one such work (although the tail here is modest, but you will try, right?))

Salt dough cockerel

A gift like this would look great on a shelf or desktop. The funny cockerel will make you smile more than once and will bring joy all year round.

To create a figurine from salt dough you will need:
for dough: cold water – 250 g; wheat flour without additives - 2 cups; “Extra” salt – 1 glass;
for a toy: a long wooden skewer; knife; improvised materials for cutting out a circle and creating patterns on the wings, beak and legs; paints; glue.

Step 1. To make the dough, you need to mix salt and flour and then add water. The degree of readiness of the salt dough should be determined by hand: if the dough crumbles, add water, and if it sticks too much to your hands, add flour. Roll the dough into a ball and try to make a few indentations in it with your finger. If the dough holds its shape and does not spread, it is ready.

Step 2. Form the body of a cockerel from the dough and insert a length of wooden skewer into it in the center. Then the workpiece needs to be put in the oven and slightly dried.

Step 3: Using something round, draw a circle on the rolled out salt dough and cut it out. Using a curly knife or a regular knife, give the circle a slight waviness along the edges. Now this part can be attached to the cockerel's body, forming a breast.

Step 4. Blind the head of the cockerel and attach it to the body.

Step 5. Using three flat, rounded pieces of dough, form a comb and attach it to the head of the cockerel.

Step 6. Fashion the paws and glue to the body.

Step 7. Now you need to roll “sausages” with sharp ends and attach them to the back of the body, bending them downwards. It turns out a luxurious cockerel tail.

Step 8 Now make the beak, wings and eyes as shown in the photos.

Step 9. After drying, the almost finished cockerel can be painted.
