Water-repellent impregnation for shoes - which is better? The concept and rules for using impregnation for shoes The best impregnation for shoes

breast cancer

Today, almost every person in our country has things made of genuine leather, such as shoes, bags, backpacks, briefcases, outerwear, etc.

Since the climate in most of Russia is quite harsh and changeable, and leather products are not cheap, it makes sense to carefully care for them and protect them from various precipitation (snow, rain,) and moisture (puddles, mud).

In this test, we will consider the most popular water-repellent products (impregnations) sold in well-known retail chains and affordable.

We chose natural leather for the experiment, the most "unprotected" for water - "crust" drum dyeing. With this type of dyeing, the skins are placed in a special drum, which rotates to ensure uniform penetration of the dye. Additionally, the surface of the skin is not processed and is not painted.

Basically, in the production of leather products, leather is used for covering dyeing. It is carried out additionally after drum dyeing, which allows you to give the coating any color, and also additionally protects the skin surface from various damages and chemical attack.

For the test, we chose 11 types of water repellents:

1) "Vito protector" -250 ml - a network of construction stores "Vimos". Price: 181 rubles.

2) "KIWI Aquastop" - 200 ml - network of Auchan hypermarkets. Price: 139 rubles.

3) Spray water repellentivayuschie "Every day" -250 ml. - a network of hypermarkets "Auchan". Price: 80 rubles.

4) "Dividik" for shoes - 250 ml - a network of stores of household chemicals and household goods "Smile of the Rainbow". Price: 184 rubles.

5) "Silver Premium" - 250 ml - a network of stores of household chemicals and household goods "Smile of the Rainbow". Price: 224 rubles.

6) Impregnation universal "Water proof" - 230 ml. Price: 79 rubles.

7) "Salton Expert" - 250 ml - a network of supermarkets "Crossroads". Price: 239 rubles.

8) "Salton Protection" - 300 ml - a network of supermarkets "Crossroads". Price: 154 rubles.

9) "Salamander Universal SMS" - 300 ml - a network of supermarkets "Crossroads". Price: 279 rubles.

10) "Vister Universal SMS" - 300 ml - a chain of stores of household chemicals and household goods "Raduga Smile" - 159 rubles.

11) "Stroke" - 300 ml - a network of supermarkets "Oh, Kay". Price: 189 rubles.

12 square pieces of leather were cut.

Eleven were treated with water repellents according to the instructions and one was not treated with anything (serial number "0"). They were all laid out on the table and numbered as given above in the text. Samples were processed from a conventional spray bottle with plain water.

Number "0" got wet immediately.

By the 10th minute small specks of wet skin appeared near the numbers "1", "2", "3" and "9". Number "6" began to get wet, and "10" got wet all over.

By 20 minutes:

"0" has absorbed all the moisture and is almost dry.

"6" - absorbed and also began to dry.

"7" and "8" - did not absorb moisture.

"1", "4", "5" - small rare spots appeared.

"11" - one small spot appeared.

"2" and "3" - small spots and wet edges.

"10" - moisture has impregnated the entire surface of the sample.

By 30 minutes:

"7" and "8" - showed excellent results, i.e. they did not get wet at all.

"1", "4" and "5" - a good result - small specks.

"11"-rating "good with a minus".

"2", "3" and "9" - the results are satisfactory - fairly large spots.

"6" and "10" - failed - the entire surface got wet.

Sample "0" (an untreated piece of leather) acted as a "moisture absorber" without resisting it at all.

Kiwi Aquastop", "Every Day", "Salamander Universal" and "Stroke" performed mediocrely.

And shoes need special attention and care. If in the summer people put on something light, then with the onset of cold weather they have to put on something warm. Things made from natural materials require special care.

Skin care

When buying leather shoes or clothing, be prepared for the fact that you will have to take care of it carefully. Immediately stock up on all the necessary tools: cleaning foams, paint, brushes. A water-repellent spray should be a mandatory care product. After the street, always clean the product well. If necessary, use a cream and apply a water-repellent spray to the product before leaving the house.

How to choose a good tool?

Nowadays, on the shelves of many stores you can find a water-repellent spray. There are different brands under which this tool is produced. It should be said right away that the more popular the manufacturer, the more expensive the water-repellent spray will be. That is why it is necessary to pay attention not only to the popularity of the brand, but also to the composition. Sometimes you can find products that are similar in composition, which differ significantly in price. The cost of a product must match its quality. Therefore, before buying, study the information indicated on the back of the tube.

If the composition of the product contains natural oils, and other useful components, then this will be a definite plus. For such a tool, you can pay a slightly larger amount than for a regular water-repellent spray for clothes or shoes. Also, before purchasing a tool, you need to decide what you need it for. There are universal caring sprays that are suitable for both smooth leather and suede products. It will be better if you purchase a separate tool for both. The principle of operation of these sprays is somewhat different. Therefore, if you want to get reliable moisture protection for your things, give preference to a suitable sprayer. Otherwise, by saving now, you will spend much more on buying a new item next season.

How to use the purchased product?

When you have chosen a water repellent spray for shoes or clothes, you can start using it. To begin with, you will have to clean the product. To do this, wash it with plain water. This method of processing is only suitable for smooth skin. If you have a suede product, then it must be cleaned with a special foam and brush. It is advisable to use all care products from only one manufacturer. In this case, they will complement each other perfectly.

After cleaning the product, let it dry well. Remember that you can not dry such things near the battery. It is best to leave clothes or shoes indoors overnight at room temperature. The next morning, you can proceed to direct processing.

Pick up a water-repellent spray for shoes or clothes and carefully read the instructions. It must be observed in order to achieve the maximum effect from the product used. Water repellent spray may have an unpleasant, pungent odor. Therefore, it is better to process things in the fresh air, and not in a residential area.

Shake the spray bottle. Hold the tool in your hand at a distance of about twenty centimeters from the product. Press down on the plunger and use quick side-to-side motions to work the entire surface of the garment. Remember that you need to apply the product at least two hours before leaving the house. Otherwise, you will not achieve the desired effect.

Water repellent spray: user reviews

This tool has only positive reviews. It perfectly protects jackets, sheepskin coats, boots and bags made of natural materials from moisture. Even when drops get on clothes, they are not absorbed and do not dry out. As a result, there are no dirty spots and streaks left on the product. Water-repellent spray for clothing forms a protective film, thanks to which droplets of liquid simply roll off the product.

Once you try to apply the product on clothes, you will always use it. Due to the fine spray, the water-repellent spray does not damage the product and is easily washed off with a special cleanser or soap.

Conclusion

Choose good protection for your clothes and shoes. In this case, the product will last more than one season. You may need to make several different purchases of this garment protection product before finding the right one. Use a moisture barrier spray at all times. Apply it every time you leave the house, as the weather can change dramatically in winter and autumn. Let your clothes always be under reliable protection!

Frosty weather, reagents, snow porridge underfoot - all this quickly makes our shoes unusable. But even the cheapest is able to retain its original appearance, if properly cared for. And this care consists in the treatment of boots or boots with special means. Moreover, experts advise not to save on water-repellent and coloring aerosols, because, as practice shows, you need to spend at least 10 percent of the cost of this very shoe on shoe care products. The main thing here is to spend money on a really worthwhile product. Therefore, we will try to deal with the question, water-repellent (hydrophobic, moisture-proof) impregnation for shoes - which is better, right now.

Impregnation action

Water-repellent impregnation for shoes is an emulsion or solution. It processes the surface of boots or shoes, and the action is as follows:

  1. Water-repellent impregnation, as a rule, is treated with shoes immediately after purchase, as long as there are no special dirt and scuffs on them. The impregnation is applied quite liberally to the surface, the solvent evaporates within a few minutes, and a thin water-repellent layer remains on our shoes. Its molecules do not evaporate and reliably protect the surface from moisture.
  2. The protective agent during processing gets not only on the surface, but also inside the fibers. Now they have minimal hygroscopicity. They repel any moisture, and it accumulates on the surface in the form of separate drops.

The advantages of using the best water-repellent impregnation for shoes are obvious:

  • The resistance of any material to water and various aggressive components - salt, reagents, pollution, increases several times.
  • Materials after such processing receive additional elasticity, they dry less and retain their original appearance longer.
  • Water-repellent impregnation practically does not interfere with breathability, and does not damage the coating of the shoe.
  • It does not pose any danger to your skin.
  • Also, any impregnation does not weigh down the fabric.
  • Another advantage is that the processing protects materials from premature fading.

Important! Of the minuses, only one can be cited: impregnation processing requires your time, but the result is worth it.

Types of water repellents

To date, there are several hundred manufacturers of water-repellent impregnations. And they put film forming agents on the market in a wide variety of forms. Everyone assures that their product is the best water-repellent impregnation for shoes. But first, let's figure out what this product consists of and what it happens to be.

Important! Please note that all means will work well only if the shoes, boots or boots are made of good materials. Therefore, be sure to check out the one that will serve you for more than one season.

Creams

Creamy remedies can be divided into 2 types:

  1. Creams that are thick in consistency are mainly suitable for leather shoes (they can also process other leather products - bags, gloves). The manufacturer introduces a solvent, wax, animal fat, and sometimes coloring components into their composition.
  2. Liquid creams and emulsions are ideal for warm weather. These products contain very few solvents, sometimes they are generally replaced with water. Therefore, hoping that they will protect your shoes 100 percent is not worth it. Their main function is to give your boots maximum shine and gloss.

Important! In order not to get into a mess, use our rating.

Water repellent spray

Sprays can be called a universal care product. This is the best water-repellent impregnation for shoes. It is suitable for all materials, without exception. They even process clothes. And there are simple explanations for this:

  • Sprays are very easy to apply. It does not require special brushes or tools. You simply take and spray the product on your shoes, bag or clothes. The main thing is not to do it indoors.
  • If creams and liquids have a limited shelf life, then the spray against their background looks like a long-liver. It can serve you faithfully for several seasons.

Impregnation

Impregnations are fundamentally different from creams and sprays. This tool penetrates deep into the material. This provides longer protection against any external influences. Before deciding which water-repellent impregnation for shoes is better, remember that each type of footwear requires a special impregnation with a special composition:

  • If the surface of your shoes is suede or nubuck, a material with villi, then take an impregnation with fluorocarbon resin.
  • For leather and any other smooth surfaces, purchase products based on silicone.
  • For other materials, products containing water repellents are ideal.

Products for leather and suede

It is important not to confuse these water-repellent products that are applied directly to shoes. The consequences can be completely unpredictable. When deciding which water-repellent impregnation for shoes is better, you should know:

  • Aerosol impregnation designed for smooth leather is completely unsuitable for suede shoes. Treat it with universal products, which include fluorocarbon resins. Wax and grease tend to stick together the villi and irrevocably ruin suede or nubuck shoes.
  • With leather products, everything is exactly the opposite. The more wax and grease in the spray or cream, the better it will be for shoes made from smooth leather. It is great if the impregnation includes mink oil, seals or goose fat, as they have a high penetrating ability.

Silicone impregnations have long taken first place in the list of the best water-repellent impregnation for shoes. Indeed, often water, after treatment with such means, simply flows off the shoes without having time to be absorbed. Protective silicone film gently envelops the entire surface of your shoes, without affecting the breathability. The effective action of the product begins after 8-9 hours, so the treatment is usually carried out in the evening. But here, too, there are nuances:

  • Manufacturers can use cheaper silicone instead of fluorocarbon resins. In this case, the impregnation will work quite differently. It forms an invisible film in the upper layers of the material, which, on the one hand, repels water, but on the other hand, prevents the product from “breathing”.
  • Fluorocarbon resin works differently: particles are distributed between the fibers of the material. And if moisture gets on the shoes, then it remains on the surface in the form of droplets that are easy to shake off.

Important! Please read the ingredients carefully before making a purchase. Abstract inscriptions “water-repellent component” or “water-repellent emulsion” are a reason to be wary. An honest manufacturer will always write the exact name of the ingredients, and a conscientious one will not forget about fluorocarbon resins.

Tools for other materials:

  • It is useless to protect fabric shoes from moisture. It is better not to wear it in rainy weather and wear it only in dry weather. Moisture repellents are powerless here.
  • If your shoes are made of leatherette, then trying to extend their life is useless. There are no special tools for this type of material. And all for one simple reason: leatherette does not absorb any substances. However, you can improve such shoes by using the services of the nearest shoe repair shop, where the shoes will be additionally sewn and glued, protecting them from moisture getting inside.
  • Membrane shoes require no less close attention than leather ones. To do this, use the usual arsenal of impregnations offered in stores specifically for shoes made from natural leather materials.

Important! The disadvantages of the Aquabron tool include the fact that it can be purchased by pre-order.

  4. Nikwax. This water repellent does not repel buyers with its price. The cost of the aerosol is only $5. The manufacturer releases this tool on the market for different types of materials. This composition can process shoes and even down jackets.

Many consumers, when buying shoes, often do not even think about the fact that their appearance can be preserved for a long time. To do this, it is enough to know which is the best water-repellent impregnation for shoes suitable for different materials. Manufacturers today offer a large selection of sprays and creams that will perfectly protect shoes from moisture and dirt. Thanks to these funds, you can increase the life of your shoes several times and save on buying a new pair of shoes, sneakers. It remains only to choose a high-quality spray or impregnation, and forget about problems such as stains or dirt stains (a dirt-repellent agent is intended for this). Our article and reviews on the Internet will help you with this.

Everyone at least once faced with a situation where comfortable, practical and inexpensive shoes become unusable after the first winter or spring rains. Water, snow, frost and especially chemicals that are mercilessly sprinkled on sidewalks cause severe damage to leather, suede and textile materials. Unfortunately, buying more expensive shoes will not change anything, since aggressive substances can corrode even metal. The same goes for clothes - white stains constantly form on trousers, and raindrops remain on jackets.

You can correct the situation and save a decent amount of money if you purchase such specialized products as: water-repellent impregnation for shoes and clothes.

The principle of operation of water repellents

First of all, consider the types of surfaces that water gets on:

  • Hydrophilic. In this case, moisture spreads over the material, occupying the maximum possible area.
  • Hydrophobic. Getting on such a surface, water does not spread, but takes on a hemispherical shape. Due to this, moisture is less absorbed.

If we talk about shoes made of nubuck, suede, leather and other materials, they are not only hydrophilic, but also have a porous surface. The pores (or capillaries) literally “suck in” water, so the shoes must be impregnated with special products.

If you use cheap water repellents, they simply form a protective film on the surface. Because of this, the pores are clogged, and the human leg does not “breathe”. Therefore, it is better to choose a higher quality hydrophobic spray that covers each pore with a protective layer, reducing its diameter, but without compromising breathability. This type of treatment is often referred to as a super hydrophobic coating.

If we talk about the types of water-repellent agents, then today on sale you can find water repellents costing from 50 to 3,000 rubles.

Types of water repellents

The form of release of products that form a waterproof film is the most diverse:

  • Creams. Such formulations are divided into two categories: thick and liquid. The composition of the first type contains a solvent, wax, animal fat and coloring components. They are only suitable for leather shoes. Liquid cream (or emulsion) is recommended for use in warm weather. Such a water-repellent liquid contains a smaller amount of solvents (which are sometimes completely replaced with water) and protects the shoes to the least extent. Liquid products are more often used to obtain shine, and not to protect the material.
  • Water repellent spray. Tools of this type are suitable for almost all materials. Water-repellent sprays are used for shoes and clothing. Such compositions are distinguished by ease of application and a wide spectrum of action. Unlike creams and liquids, the aerosol has a longer duration of action.
  • Impregnation. Compositions of this type penetrate deep into the material and protect it for the longest time from the harmful effects of atmospheric phenomena. You need to choose a water-repellent impregnation for clothes and shoes based on the type of fabric: for suede, products with fluorocarbon resin (forming a kind of epoxy coating on the surface) are suitable, for smooth skin it is better to give preference to silicone compounds, for other materials - fluorine-containing water repellents.

It rarely happens that a person wears clothes and shoes exclusively from one material, so preference should be given to an aerosol (spray), which is suitable for both suede shoes and leather jackets.

Speaking of the best tools, consider the most popular of them.

The best brands of water repellent sprays

Most often in stores they buy products that are “on the ear”, however, this does not mean that there are no other equally high-quality analogues on sale. Consider the main compositions with the best characteristics.

Colonil

Water-repellent spray Collonil Nanopro costs about 1,300 rubles. This tool is suitable for smooth leather, velor, fur, nubuck and any textile. The composition of Collonil is developed using modern nano-technologies. Particles of the "preparation" envelop the material and form a protective moisture-resistant film on it. Most of all, Collonil is suitable for use in the off-season, but it does not cope with chemicals and salt.

It is also worth noting the rather pungent smell of the aerosol. Because of this, the use of Collonil indoors is not recommended. The spray is not sold in every city, so if you want to buy it, it is better to immediately start searching for Collonil on the Internet.

Salamander

Shoe spray Salamander Universal SMS is very popular among consumers due to its relatively low cost from 300 to 500 rubles, as well as a wide scope of its application (Salamander aerosols treat not only clothes and shoes, but also umbrellas, as well as "breathable" materials Gore -Tex). However, if you have ever used the products of this brand, then you most likely noticed a rather strong and pungent smell. The manufacturer does not hide this information and strongly recommends applying the aerosol only on the street or in a ventilated area.

Drywall

The Drywall product, worth 1,990 rubles, is a universal water-repellent spray that is suitable for both natural and artificial fabrics of any type (including Gore-Tex materials and membrane shoes). The composition has a long shelf life (up to 3 months). The main advantage of the Drywall spray is the absence of toxic components in the protective aerosol. In addition, nano impregnation for shoes does not contain oil, wax, acrylic, paraffin and solvents. The appearance of things does not change even after repeated treatment with a water repellent.

Drywall for shoes forms a transparent water-repellent coating that does not clog the pores of the material, so "your skin will breathe." Thanks to these properties, the water repellent can be used both in winter for skiing as well as in hot weather.

If you do not want to use a water-repellent spray, then you can choose a quality impregnation.

The best brands of water-repellent impregnations

Among the best means by which fabrics are impregnated, it is worth highlighting the following:

  • Water-repellent impregnation Woly Sport. This aerosol impregnation was also developed using modern nano-technologies. The tool costs about 400 rubles. Woly Sport is suitable for all types of fabric, but most often it is used for sports shoes and Gore-Tex materials.
  • Olvist. The main advantage of Olvist water-repellent aerosol impregnation is its rather low cost (200 - 250 rubles). The product is suitable for textiles, smooth and fleecy leather.
  • Water-repellent impregnations Textile Protect. The product of this brand is available in a spray bottle and costs about 2,000 rubles. This water-repellent agent belongs to specialized compositions that process not only shoes, but also sails, covers and awnings. However, applying Textile Protect to clothing is not recommended.
  • Nikwax. Impregnation costs from 300 rubles. A tool is produced for different types of material. For example, a special water repellant Nikwax Down Proof has been developed for down jackets.

When buying any composition, try to consider what exactly you need a water repellent for. When it comes to Gore-Tex fabrics, then try to choose sprays or impregnations that indicate this type of material in the instructions.

It is also worth considering some features of caring for shoes and clothing treated with protective compounds.

Features of the use of water repellents

Before you start using a water repellent, you need to consider a few nuances:

  • Impregnation for clothes is added to the water, into which the jacket or trousers are then lowered. Shoes cannot be processed in this way. Therefore, the easiest way is to buy a spray that is easily applied to any thing.
  • To keep the protective coating on your clothes for as long as possible, try to wash things by hand.
  • Before applying any product, rinse and dry the item to be treated well.
  • The maximum effect of the water repellent can be expected in a day. It is better not to wear impregnated shoes for 24 hours after treatment.

  • If you accidentally dropped ketchup or fat on the treated surface, you can remove the stains with a regular paper towel.
  • Means that form water-repellent coatings on the surface are not recommended for bed and underwear.

In custody

Many do not even think why water repellents are needed and what a useful function such compositions perform. Thanks to these tools, you can increase the life of your shoes several times over and save on buying a new pair of shoes. It remains only to choose a high-quality spray or impregnation, and forget about problems such as stains or dirt spots.

Water-repellent impregnation of shoes is a complex action to protect shoes from water, salt, dirt and reagents, which includes the treatment of the upper of the shoe in combination with the impregnation of auxiliary parts (welts, soles, seams). The main advice is to choose a means of a suitable degree of protection, based on the operating conditions of the shoes (office, street, car). You should pay attention to the active substance, since not all impregnations are universal and suitable for all skin types. In this section, you can buy the most rated water-repellent impregnations for any footwear (smooth leather, suede, nubuck, textiles) with delivery in Moscow and the Russian Federation. We also recommend a series of dirt-repellent impregnations for especially sensitive skin - excellent gentle impregnation and protection for expensive shoes

The basic rule for using any shoe care product is to use only what is suitable for this type of leather or material, and within reasonable limits. This means that if there is no need to use a very strong remedy, then it is better to use a more gentle one.

In this regard, when choosing the right impregnating agent, we have two points in mind:

1. How strong is the impact (dirt, dust, salt or moisture) shoes are exposed to:

If I go by car from work to home and I only need to walk to the garage, and then from the parking lot to the office, this is one thing, if I go for a walk with the children to the playground, and it has just snowed, this is another. If I go for a walk with the dog, it's autumn, it's dirty, it's drizzling - the logic is clear.

The stronger the action of a particular remedy, the less universal it is, i.e. performs one task. On the other hand, universal means are loved precisely because a person is lazy by nature and loves to solve several problems in one fell swoop.

So in ascending order:

A) Favorite traditional triple-action all-purpose products - shoe protection from dirt, protection from moisture AND CARE. Solitaire has this series, suitable for all materials except patent leather and stretch materials, can be in the form of an aerosol or foam in small (200 ml) and large (400 ml) containers. Foam, in addition, refreshes the color. Of course, foam can be used indoors.
