How to knit socks for a child: a master class with step by step photos. How to calculate the number of loops for knitting a sock

Ureaplasmosis

If you, like me, live in the cold regions of our country, then you probably know that the best protection for your feet in cold weather is felt boots and woolen socks. It is especially necessary to take care of the legs of the child, because everyone is well aware of what serious diseases hypothermia of the lower extremities of a person is fraught with. No synthetic socks will protect you from the cold like real wool, even if they are very thick and terry. Synthetics do not pass air and moisture well, the leg in such socks may first sweat and then freeze. This will not happen in woolen socks, the feet in them will always remain warm and dry.

Getting ready for a walk, be sure to put on knitted woolen socks

How to knit socks for a child: MK with a photo

Be sure to take into account the density of knitting. For example, for someone the loops are weak, then the loops can be dialed less. My product is quite thick. And yes, over time, all knitted socks stretch a little.

What will be required

For work choose ordinary stocking knitting needles No. 1(If I'm not mistaken, since they were bought a very long time ago). In general, socks are knitted on 5 knitting needles, but in our case there are few loops, so 4 spokes will be enough, otherwise they will constantly slip out of a small number of loops.

Of course, threads are still required. for socks it is better to choose threads with a maximum wool content. They will still be worn over tights or thin socks, so they will not prick the legs. In my MK, these are exactly what are used, but, as I already wrote, they were purchased from local farmers. There are none in the store, but there is a good replacement - goat down. I always bought it for. It is almost not prickly, very soft and beautiful. True, each time I come across a different one: sometimes it is a thin and very fluffy thread, and sometimes it is quite thick. If the thread is thin, then it is better to knit in two threads, as the second one you can use ordinary children's yarn (although it is not prickly at all, but the wool content in it is small).

Shaft

Step 1. Cast on 30 stitches and start knitting in the round. We knit about 7 cm with an elastic band - 2 persons., 2 purl. loops. You can alternate one after another. The height of the top can also be increased or decreased as desired.

Heel

Step 2. Now we knit another 7 rows of facial ones and proceed to the formation of the heel. To do this, separate 7 loops on an auxiliary knitting needle (you can use a pin). The remaining loops (23 pieces) are knitted back and forth with the front surface - in the front rows we knit the front, and in the purl, respectively, purl. We knit the extreme loops as usual, and not as hem loops.

Step 3. Having knitted 8 rows, while the heel height reaches about 3 cm, you can “round off”. To do this, knit 7 loops with facial ones, and knit 8 and 9 together. The next 5 loops are facial, and 6 and 7 together.

We form the heel of the sock. Loops are reduced in the marked areas

Expand the work, we do not knit the first loop, we just change clothes on a new knitting needle. The next 5 loops are purl, 6 and 7 loops are together.

Turn the work again, remove the first loop on the knitting needle, without knitting, next. 5 loops - facial, 6 and 7 - together.

Then unfold the sock again and repeat the above. We knit like this until there are 7 central loops on the knitting needle.

Foot

Step 4 Our heel is ready. Now on the sides, we need to dial 7 loops. Note that now we will have 2 loops less than at the beginning of knitting (was 30 loops, now 28).

We continue to knit a sock for a child

Pick up the loops on the sides and start knitting the foot. Knit in the round with knit loops. Having tied 9-10 cm, begin to close the loops. Perhaps your child has a larger or smaller leg, then you will need to close the loops earlier or a little later. Focus on the little finger: when the sock closes it, you can complete the work.

Step 5. For a smooth finish on the sock, decrease 4 loops in a row. In our case, 28 were dialed, which means you need to knit every 6 and 7 loops together (and so 4 times in a row). On the next row, work every 5 and 6 stitches together. Subsequently - 4 and 5 together. And so on, until there are 4 loops left on the needles. Then cut the thread, leaving a tail about 5 cm long. Pass the remaining 4 loops through it alternately, tighten the thread, tie a knot and cut. Knitted socks for a child are ready!

Sock foot length - 15 cm (the photo was taken after wearing, as you can see, the socks have already stretched)
Sock height - 14.5 cm Toe top width - 9 cm

You can make the socks more elegant by knitting with stripes of different colors of yarn. Another option is to knit socks with a pattern, for example, it will look very nice, but on the practical side it may not be very convenient - the leg in the boot will be cramped. Therefore, it is better to give preference to flat patterns created from multi-colored threads.

P.S.: I decided to add a little to the article. This fall I took up my socks again. My son's leg has grown a little, now we are 3 years old, so I added 2 loops when dialing, that is, now I'm gaining 32 loops. For legs 15.5 - 16 cm long, just right.

Socks for a child of 3 years: number of loops 32, foot length 16 cm

will help you correctly determine the size of the product that you are going to knit for your baby.

We all remember that the correct choice of the size of socks and other hosiery depends on how comfortable the child will feel. If the socks you knit are smaller, your child will simply feel uncomfortable wearing them. Well, if the socks are large, then they will roll up and gather like an accordion.

Of course, when you knit children's socks with your own hands, you can always dissolve the product and bandage it. But you always want to immediately understand what size is suitable for your baby, how many loops you need to dial, and so on.

The size of socks for children can be most easily determined using a special table, which we will give below. However, first we would like to tell you how to use it.

How to determine the size of socks for your child

  1. We ask the child to put his foot on a piece of paper (both legs in turn);
  2. Outline the outline of the foot with a pencil;
  3. We measure the distance between the end of the heel and the thumb and find the resulting value in the table

SOCK SIZES

Knitted socks are elastic and therefore suitable for any shape of the leg and for several sizes. Therefore, for our models, 3 leg sizes are indicated. With the help of the tips below and the size chart, you can knit the model you like in any desired size that differs from the one offered by us.

CHANGE OF SIZE

In the size chart below, you will find the classic sizes and the number of loops for knitted socks. In this case, please note that the data of some models differ from the data in the table due to the peculiarities of the pattern or design of the socks. In such cases, for calculations when knitting other sizes, it is recommended to take the data given in the instructions as a basis.

Volume of the upper part of the sock:

Depends on the number of cast-on stitches and thus the number of stitches on each needle. For a larger sock, add 4 additional loops, for smaller socks, dial 4 loops less.

If socks are connected with a pattern, rapport must be observed. If it is not a multiple of 4, you need to determine the places where you can quietly add or subtract the required number of loops without disturbing the pattern. For example, it is possible to add 1 loop in 4 places between 2 rapports. Distribute these places based on the middle of the back or front of the sock so that 1 more loop is knitted on each knitting needle. How these added loops will knit - facial, purl or facial crossed, depends on the main pattern.

Heel:

If 4 loops more or less are knitted in the upper part, then at the beginning of the heel execution, 2 loops more or less are laid off, thus the heel increases or decreases by 2 loops.

Rows when performing the boomerang heel and the walls of the classic heel should be performed according to the data in the size table.

Foot instep wedge:

Decrease the instep wedge until the needles again have the same number of stitches as at the beginning of the heel.

Foot length:

Easily fits to any size. Try on the sock while knitting to the beginning of the toe and knit a few circular rows more or less.

Toe:

Depending on the frequency of decreases and the shape of the toe, knit from 1 to 2 rows more and in one of these circular rows additionally decrease 4 loops. With fewer loops, you can skip one circle with decreases.

Size chart for knitting socks according to Verena's rates

The number of loops given in the table refers to a knitting pattern with a density of 30 loops and 42 rounds / rows \u003d 10x10 cm, made in the front surface with knitting needles No. 2.5 and knitted from sock yarn from 200 to 225m / 50g.

This is the second article in a series of publications "Course knitting socks from the magazine Verena".

The sock given as a sample (shoe size 39/40) is knitted from fine stocking yarn (210 m / 50 g) on knitting needles No. 2.5.

The upper part of the sock (elastic band).
Find the desired shoe size in the size table and dial the number of loops indicated in column 1 for the toe.
For a sock with a shoe size 39/40, you need to dial 64 loops. The loops must be distributed on 4 knitting needles, closed in a ring and knitted with an elastic band in a circle (alternately 2 facial, 2 purl). The length of the upper part of the sock can be arbitrary (as you wish). The transition from row to row runs along the back line of the middle.

Heel wall.
On the loops of the 4th and 1st knitting needles, i.e. on both sides of the back line of the middle, on a certain number of loops indicated in column 3, knit in rows in the forward and reverse directions with the front surface. The height of the heel wall in centimeters, respectively rows, is given in column 4.

The bottom of the heel.
For greater heel strength, you can attach an additional thread that matches the color to the working thread. Divide the heel wall loops into 3 parts. If the number of loops is not divisible by 3, then the same number of loops should be in the 1st and 3rd parts. For example, for a given size, the wall of the heel is knitted on 32 loops, and they should be divided as follows: after 11 loops, make the 1st mark, after the next 10 loops, make the 2nd mark = 11 more loops left.
Knit the first two parts, except for 1 loop before the 2nd mark. Knit the loop in front of the mark and the loop after the mark together with a tilt to the left, turn and remove the 1st loop, as in purl knitting. Purl out the middle part, except for the 1st loop in front of the 1st mark. Knit the loop in front of the mark and the loop after the mark together from the wrong side, turn and remove the 1st loop, as in purl knitting. Decrease repeat until all the side loops are knitted and only the loops of the middle part remain in the work. Turn the work and knit to the middle = to the line of transition from row to row.

Foot lift wedge.
On each edge of the heel, cast on the number of loops indicated in column 5. As a result, there are more loops on the 1st and 4th knitting needles than on the 2nd and 3rd knitting needles. Extra loops are reduced when forming a wedge of instep: knit the last 2 loops of the 1st knitting needle together with the knitting needle, knit the first 2 loops of the 4th knitting needle together with a tilt to the left. Repeat these decreases in every 2nd row until the initial total number of loops is reached - the same on each knitting needle. Next, knit the foot to the length indicated in column 6. The transition from row to row runs along the bottom line of the middle.

Mysok.
To form the toe, knit the last 3rd and 2nd loops of the 1st knitting needle together with the knitting needle, knit the 2nd and 3rd loops of the 2nd knitting needle together with a tilt to the left. Decrease at the end of the 3rd knitting needle, as on the 1st knitting needle, and at the beginning of the 4th knitting needle, as on the 2nd knitting needle. Repeat these decreases as many times as indicated in column 7. The total length of the foot is indicated in column 8. Pull the remaining 8 loops with a working thread. Fasten the thread on the wrong side of the sock.

Attention! The consumption of fine yarn with a size of 30/31 is about 50 gr, 40/41 - 100 gr, 42/43 - 150 gr. Consumption of yarn of medium thickness with a size of 30/31 - 50 gr, 38/39 - 100 gr, 40/41 - 150 gr.

In the cold season, knitting children's socks with knitting needles is a must. It is so important that the child's feet are warm. For a year, 2 and 3 years, choose wool yarn or yarn with alpaca, mixed with artificial fibers, such as polyamide. While knitting the heel, it would be nice to add a thin bobbin thread. Summer openwork socks for beginners are knitted from cotton yarn. At the end, you will find cat patterns for knitting jacquard.

How to calculate the number of loops for knitting a sock

In order not to start work again and again, before knitting children's socks with knitting needles, we calculate the required number of loops. In order for the socks to fit the child perfectly, you need to take into account the height of the leg lift, the size of the lower leg and the size of the foot itself.

  • There are circumstances when fitting a sock is not possible - then use the formula: X: 3 x 2 \u003d Y, in which X means the size of the shoe, and Y is the length of the foot. X: 3 x 2 = Y
where X is the shoe size and Y is the foot size in centimeters. For children's socks with knitting needles, you will need 50 gr. yarn.
  • If this seems complicated to you, there are tables that indicate how many loops to cast on according to the knitting density. It is necessary to knit a “probe” - 10/10 cm in order to calculate the required number of loops.
  • Another option for determining the number of loops. It is necessary to take 2 measurements of the baby's leg: the 1st measurement is the circumference of the instep, it is measured in centimeters at the widest point of the instep. 2nd measurement - leg circumference, measured above the bone. Next, we find the average circumference: we add the circumference of the volume and the circumference of the leg and divide by 2. By so much, see and do the calculation for the set of p.
  • And the last option. Everyone knows that the anatomy of the leg has its own proportions. Look at the size ratio of the leg. You can’t go wrong if you cast on the needles the number of stitches that match the size: (top of the foot + sole = 100%). This size is what you need for the correct set of loops. Next, we will knit beautiful socks with a step-by-step master class.

A set of loops according to the anatomy of the leg.

Size chart for different knitting densities.

Here we will knit such original socks in stages with knitting needles for a child aged 3-4 years. We will knit on five knitting needles in the simplest “grandmother's” way. Knitting children's socks is something that is suitable for beginners who are just starting to knit. This easy way to knit baby socks with knitting needles will also come in handy for those who knew, but forgot this technique.

Abbreviations: p. - loop, p. - row, l. - front, from. - purl., sp. - knitting needles, vm. - together.

For work you will need:

  1. 5 double knitting needles, 3 mm thick.
  2. Yarn - wool with polyamide (150 m / 50 gr.) - 1 skein of gray and 1 skein of blue.
  3. Black and red thread for the cat's face.
  4. Eraser at the end of each knitting needle - so that the yarn does not slip off the knitting needles.
  5. Pins or markers.

Table number 1, which helps to knit children's socks with knitting needles.

The foot of a child at 3-4 years old corresponds to 26/27 shoe size and the size of the foot is 16-17 cm. We collect 44 points with gray yarn. We focus on table number 1. We distribute all 44 sts into 4 knitting needles - 11 sts will turn out on each knitting needle. We will knit first an elastic band, and then circular rows. Mark the place of transition from one to another p. (between the 1st and 4th sp.) - a marker. The elastic band can be knitted, as in the photo (1 person / 1 out.), But, as a rule, such an elastic band quickly stretches out. Therefore, it is better to tie an elastic band 2/2. Knitted 10 p. rubber band and go to the faces. smooth surface. We knit as many rows as high as you want to make socks. In this model, there are only 6 p., Usually it is 10 cm. In this place, drawings and patterns with jacquard are usually knitted.

Next, we will knit the wall of the heel. We will do this on the 1st and 4th sp. facial smoothness. We do not touch the 2nd and 3rd knitting needles yet. We look at table 1: heel wall - 22 p. (44: 2), heel wall height - 14 p. (4 cm). If you knit the first and last stitches with a garter stitch, then this will make it easier for you to calculate the p.

Next, you need to tie the bottom of the heel. We divide 22 p. into 3 parts (7; 8; 7). We mark with markers. We got 7 p. on both sides, and in the middle - 8 p. We start with the front p.: 14 persons. p., 2 persons together., turn the work over (6 remaining p. do not knit, leave it like that.
2nd p.: 8 out., 2 vm. out., turn over (5 p. leave untied).
3rd p.: 8 persons., 2 vm. persons., turn knitting.
4th p.: 8 out., 2 vm. l., turn knitting.
And so on until there are 8 stitches left on the needle.

Here we have 8 sts left. Next, you need to dial as many sts from the edges on the knitting needles as we have in table number 1 (the number of loops for dialing along the lateral edges of the heel is 11, but we will take a little less - 9 sts. ). In the place where the tail of the thread sticks out, we pick up 9 sts on the knitting needle and knit their faces, then we have 11 sts of faces, another 11 sts of faces, and again we pick up 9 sts on the knitting needle, knitting their faces. And here again we have circular knitting. There are now 48 sts on the needles in total.

And in this place it would be good to measure the toe on the leg. If it's too wide, turn it down. If the number of p. suits - we knit further in a circle, distributing the p.: 12 p. For each knitting needle. The beginning of the circular row is in the middle of the lower part of the heel (marked with a marker). We have 48 sts on the needles. We knit through a row of 2 faces together. Let's focus on the marker. Knitted 8 p. and subtracted 4 p. Remained 44 p., on each sp. - 11 p each. Next, we begin to make ears for the cat. Our scheme is 32 p., so we add 12 p. to the scheme, 6 on each side, and start knitting from the ears, from the 30th p.:

In order not to interfere with a long blue thread from the inside, make 2 blue balls. Gray yarn: 14 persons. n. gray, 1 person. p. blue, 14 p. gray, 1 p. blue, 14 l. n. gray.
29th p.: 13 y.o. n. gray, 3 l. p. blue, 12 l. n. gray, 3 l. p. blue, 13 l. n. gray.
28th p.: 12 y.o. item gray, 5 l. p. blue, 10 l. n. gray, 5 blue, 12 l. n. gray.
27th p.: 11 y.o. n. gray, 7 l. p. blue, 8 l. n. gray, 7 l. blue, 11 l. n. gray.
26th p.: 10 l. n. gray, 9 blue, 6 gray, 9 blue, 10 gray.
25th p.: 44 y.o. n. blue.

The length of the foot to the toe is 13.5 cm (see table). We knit according to the scheme up to this point. We reach the little finger on the leg. Next, we begin to make a toe. Decrease is done at the end of every 11 p. (2 together l.). So we decrease until 2 sts remain on the knitting needles. Cut the thread. We stretch the end of the thread through these loops. We remove the tail.

The second sock is knitted in the same way, only it starts with blue yarn, with an elastic band.

On the video: how to knit children's socks on 5 knitting needles.

Children's socks on two knitting needles - a master class with a description

Children's socks on two knitting needles - this master class is useful for those who do not like to knit on 5 knitting needles. We knit socks on 2 knitting needles, three more knitting needles are auxiliary. Then we sew the product with a needle with a native thread. The product corresponds to the size 22/23, the length of the foot is 15 cm. The socks are knitted for the age of 3 years.

For work you will need:

  1. Yarn - wool or wool mixture - 1 skein 50 gr.
  2. Hosiery knitting needles 3.5 mm thick.
  3. The needle is thick.

We knit the upper part of the sock. We collect 39 p. And plus 2 p. Edge, total - 41 p.
1st river: edge, 1 person. p., 1 out., and so on until the end of the river, at the end - edge.
2nd p.: chrome., 1 out. p., 1 l. etc., and so on to the end, at the end - chrome.
And so continue with an elastic band for 28 rows.
Next - we make a “tongue”: we knit it for 13 points, we do not touch the rest of the points!

1st row: chrome, 26 persons. p., turn the work.
2nd p.: 13 persons. p., turn the work.
3rd p.: 13 persons., turn.

And so we knit with a garter stitch (one person. P.) 34 rows. We got: 14 sts on the first needle, 13 - tongue, 14 sts on the second needle.

35th p. without chrome. p .: 2 persons together., 9 persons., 2 persons together.
36th p.: all facial.
37th p: 2 cm. persons., 7 persons., 2 vm. persons.
38th p: all persons.
39th p: 2 vm. persons., 5 persons., 2 vm. l.
Next, knit the width of the girth of the sock.

Tied to the end of the tongue. We have left on sp. 7 p.

1st p. girth of the toe: we raise 19 p. along the left side of the “tongue”, we knit plus to these 19 p. another 13 p. from the second knitting needle and chrome. Knit faces. Turn.

It turns out 7 p. "tongue" while on a separate knitting needle.

2nd p: chrome., 32 persons., Plus 7 more p. Of the “tongue” of persons. - total 39 p.

In total, it turned out 71 points plus 2 chrome. (73 p. on the spread).

1st p.: chrome., 2 vm. persons., 28 persons., 2 vm. l., 3 l., 2 vm. l., 3 persons., 2 vm. l., 27 persons., 2 vm. l., chrome.
2nd row: chrome, 66 persons. chrome

On the video: an easy way to knit socks with knitting needles for the age of 1-2 years old.

Openwork socks are knitted for the age of 6-8 years with cotton yarn of medium thickness on 5 knitting needles 3 mm. Foot length - 20 cm. Size 30-31. We will knit fishnet socks in the round. To make it easier for you to knit, refer to table number 1 in the first master class.

We collect 48 sts on 2 knitting needles, distribute them on 4 knitting needles (12 sts each) and knit further in a circle:

1st r.: the entire r. - facial.
2nd row: purl.
3rd: persons.
4th: out.
5th, 6th, 7th - persons.
8th: out.
9th: persons.
10th: out.
11th and 12th: persons.
13th we make small holes for the laces: chrome., nakid, 2 persons together., nakid, 2 vm. l., and so on until the end of the river.
14th row: repeat the pattern from the 1st to the 12th row

Next, we knit the heel: 24 p. Knit 7 cm in height (16 rows) in two sp., The rest 2 sp. we don't touch.
17th p.: Divide the same 24 p. heels into 3 parts (7; 10; 7) p. Knit only the middle 10 p. We start with the front p. So: 6 l., 2 wm. l., 10 l., 2 vm. l., 6 l. Work rotation.
18th: 5 out., 2 vm. out., 10 persons., 2 vm. out., 5 out.

Next, we raise the side sts from one side and the other (see the first master class). You need to raise 12 sts on each side. We distribute the sts as follows: 28 sts on 2 sp., 26 sts on the remaining 2 s. 28 p. - this is our rapport (see diagram), on these p. we will only knit a pattern (top of the sock).

On the remaining 2 sp. gradually decrease 6 extra sts so that 48 sts remain in the circle. Work 16 cm to the toe and start decreasing. Decrease do this: divide the entire canvas into 4 parts and do after each - 2 cm. (11 p., 2 vm., 11 p., 2 vm., and so on) we knit the toe to the end. We stretch the thread through the last p, fasten inside. Openwork socks are ready.
