Any capable needlewoman, if she attended good sewing and cutting courses at some stage of her life, knows the basics of working with fabric, knows how to creatively apply the acquired skills. Now you can improve yourself - with the help of excellent Master classes! Check out these amazing potholders fromNatasha-Violets with detailed step by step description work!

1. For the potholder, I chose the colors of red fabrics with hearts.

Big hearts on a white background (fabric a)- this is the center of the tack,
small white hearts on a red background fabric b) are the sides,
plain red ( fabric c)- the reverse side of the tack and the side part.
Thermal padding for tacks(it can be successfully replaced by both a regular synthetic winterizer and a flannel).
Red bias trim. I used store bought cotton lining. It is made from a strip of fabric 4 cm wide, ironed in half a centimeter inward, and as a result - a 3 cm inlay, convenient for sheathing. (If you can’t buy one, it’s easy to make it yourself, especially with a special device; but even without it - is this really a problem for resourceful Russian craftswomen!)

2. Here are our templates cut out of cardboard.

See full size pattern

Before cutting, I draw your attention to:
ALLOWANCES DO NOT NEED TO ADD!
The direction of the lobar thread is desirable, but not necessary.

3. According to the template A cut out the center piece.

Since the template is a half of a heart, in order to cut out the whole, you must first circle it along the contour, then carefully shift it relative to the center to the other side and circle it in the same way. You will get an even heart on both sides.

You can do it differently - bend the fabric in half in the center, circle the part A and then cut along the circled half. And when the fabric is unfolded, you will get a whole heart. You can cut out as you are used to. The main thing is the result.

4. Next, in the same way, cut out the part from fabrics in which will go to reverse side tacks.

5. And cut out in the same way thermal pad from sintepon.

6. Here's what we got - three identical parts from different materials.

Check that the parts are well ironed.

7. Now we add a “sandwich” blank from them.

With the front side to the surface of the table we put a plain red part, on it - a synthetic winterizer, and on top of it with the front side towards us - the central part from tissue a.

We combine the layers together as accurately as possible, chop off with pins and set aside for now.

8. Now according to the template B cutting out details:

from tissue b- this is the top of the side parts, and exactly the same from fabrics in These are the linings for the sidewalls.
In principle, you can cut these lining parts from any fabric, they will not be visible.

You should get 2 external and 2 internal in mirror image

9. We fold them in pairs with wrong sides to each other and cleave them with pins.

Now everything is cut and ready for sewing.

10. We take the side parts folded in pairs with a lining and sheathe only the straight sides with an oblique trim.

You can use a regular straight stitch, but I like decorative ones: both the grip of details is stronger, and ... more decorative!
11. Cut off the excess bias tape at the ends.

It is not necessary to tuck the ends, they will then go inside the next stage of sheathing and will be clean.
12. We put the side parts prepared in this way on our postponed sandwich.

We check that all the details are aligned along the contour of the heart and neatly connected in the center at the top.

If necessary, you can trim a little, trim.

Peel off all the layers with pins.

13. We sew a heart around the entire perimeter with an inlay, starting from its upper center. Remember to insert a thicker needle into the machine.

In order to later sew a neat loop, I do not sew on the inlay at the beginning and at the end of the edging. I do not tuck the initial end of the inlay and lay it slightly shifted from the center. And I tuck the last end and lay it on top of the initial one, bringing it to the center.
In place of the future loop, there remains a free, unstitched section so far (it is marked with a circle).

14. Now I cut off a strip of 15 cm from the inlay, fold it in half, sew it with the same decorative seam together and insert the tacks at the back under the unstitched section (or in front), bend it up and, firmly fixing it with my fingers, sew the section along with the loop with the same line.

This is how it works out neatly. Maybe you will find your own way, even better. Write to us later!

We iron the resulting tack.

15. And in conclusion, you can decorate the heart with a decorative button.
What will we choose this time from the available heart buttons? Perhaps, the “Victorian heart” in the form of lace will be most successfully combined.
We sew by hand, simultaneously veiling possible minor errors in sewing on the loop.
16. And this is how we can use our patchwork creation (if the hand rises!)

17. When you have sewn your valentine potholder and decorate the kitchen with it, or create a festive interior corner, then you can still bake festive valentine cookies.

See how easy it is!

I wish you joy in the process and joy in the result!
And a lot of good patchwork gifts. Beloved mothers, grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, daughters-in-law, girlfriends, neighbors!

From Natasha-Violet from the site

Good afternoon friends!

Potholders for the kitchen - necessary thing which every housewife uses. I want to tell you, mainly for beginners, how to sew potholders for the kitchen, how easy it is to do it yourself, and we will not look for special patterns.

My old tack made of jeans with sashiko embroidery fell into disrepair a long time ago, I burned the laces there a little, used the store ones from the sets that I was presented with. But they also got worn out.

Knitted strawberries and a chicken only serve as a kitchen decor for me, so I decided to sew a beautiful potholder in the shape of a heart myself, and at the same time I prepared step by step wizard class and shot a video, I'm not very professional yet, but I think it's quite clear.

Cloth grips. How to sew: general principles, patterns

In order to sew a potholder for the kitchen with your own hands, you will need the following materials:

  • a small piece of any fabric - both chintz and old jeans will do. For a tack measuring 20x20 cm, you will need a piece of fabric 20x40, respectively.
  • the same size fabric - insulation. It can be a synthetic winterizer, flannel, old sweaters, anything.
  • if necessary, as in my case with a heart, you will need a fabric for decoration
  • some braid
  • thread, pins, scissors, sewing machine
  • paper and pencil for making patterns.

We will do the pattern ourselves, it is very simple. Next, I will show how I made a heart tack pattern, and by the same principle, you can draw a square and a circle, make a tack in the form of an apple, a leaf, a butterfly.

To sew a simple tack, proceed as follows:

  1. Cut out all the details.
  2. Layers are laid on top of each other in the sequence: main fabric - insulation - main.
  3. They are chipped along the edge with pins and sewn on a typewriter.
  4. They process the edge with an oblique trim, sew a loop.

If desired, you can quilt the tack, this is done before the edge is processed with an inlay, while only the insulation is quilted along with the wrong side, or, conversely, the face with insulation, or all three layers.

The front part can be decorated with embroidery, appliqués, lace. The decor is performed in this case as the first stage, and then the potholder is sewn.

Potholder - heart: master class

For a long time I liked such photos of stitched potholders in the form beautiful hearts, and now it's the turn to sew it yourself. I tell you how to sew a potholder step by step.

To build the pattern, I took a sheet of paper, folded it in half and drew half a free-form heart. I cut it out and unfolded it to see if I like the look. In the first attempt, the heart came out too narrow at the bottom, so I drew a new one.

For potholders, I took a piece of chintz that I had left after sewing a dressing gown. In general, I don’t need it, so I didn’t follow the cutting rules and didn’t save fabric.

I folded the fabric in half, attached the pattern (folded in half), circled it with a bar of soap and cut it out.

Before cutting the second part of the heart, I drew a corner and cut off this part when cutting.

It turned out as a result of one whole heart and two cropped halves.

I cut out another heart from decorative fabric, took a piece of plain knitwear for this purpose, and another one from an old children's sweatshirt, which went into the role of insulation.

We start sewing the potholder by processing the edges of the two halves of the hearts with an oblique inlay: ironed the inlay, pinned it with pins along the edge and stitched it.

Now you can collect layers:

  • lower heart from the main fabric inside out
  • insulation
  • decorative fabric
  • two halves.

Pinned along the edge with pins, stitched, and then cut off the excess fabric along the seam by about 2 mm.

Finished the edge with bias tape.

The photo shows what the face and inside of the potholder looks like.

It remains to sew only a loop. When suspended from it, the potholder also perfectly decorates the kitchen, and when using it, when I take on the hot handles of pots and pans, I fold it in half, very convenient.

It's so easy to sew a beautiful potholder for the kitchen with your own hands.

The whole process can be seen in detail in the video.

Creative success to you!

Do you have friends who are having a housewarming party? Or on the nose Valentine's Day? Or is there just a reason to good gift housewife girlfriend? :) Then we suggest doing this kitchen potholder for a gift or for yourself :)

For sewing potholders you will need

paper heart template for printing on a printer.

  • 3 squares of thick fabric (necessarily cotton and in no case synthetic, which melts at high temperatures) with sides of about 23-25 cm. The fabric does not have to be the same.
  • 3 squares of batting with the same dimensions as the dense fabric.
  • tape 6 cm wide.

Do-it-yourself kitchen potholder in the shape of a heart

Print out the template sheet in 3 copies.

Cut one sheet along the solid line - this is the template for the fabric.
Cut the second sheet along the inside dotted line- This is a template for batting.
Cut the third sheet diagonally - this is the template for the fabric of the pockets.

Stack 3 pieces of cotton batting and fold in half. Attach the batting template and cut along the edge. For reliability, you can sweep or fasten with needles, and then cut out.

Fold 3 squares of cotton fabrics in half; attach the fabric template and cut out. Take one of the cut out fabrics and attach the pocket template to it. Cut along the diagonal dotted line of the template.

Make a ribbon out of the ribbon.
The inner edges of the pockets need to be sheathed with ribbon-ribbon as shown in the photo below.

Now you need to assemble the heart in this order: first the front fabric, then 3 layers of batting, then the inner fabric, then the pocket fabric (photo below). Sew the edges of the heart and cut off the excess as close to the edge of the seam as possible.

A wonderful gift for Valentine's Day to your family and friends will be a heart-shaped potholder. This will be a wonderful gift not only on such a holiday, because it will be connected by you and presented from the bottom of your heart.

You will need 100% acrylic (230m / 100g) hook No. 3.5
the beginning of the tack is in the center of the square, and we will start with it.

We collect a chain of 4 air loops (vp), close them in a ring and knit:
1 row - 8 single crochet (st. bn.)
2 row - * 2 st.bn., 3 v.p. * (3 chs form a loop that will form the corners of the square and it is in this loop that two additional sts will be knitted in the next row to expand the square)
3 row - 2 st.bn., 3 ch., * 4 st.bn., 3 ch.p. *, 2 st.bn. (the beginning and end of the row should be in the middle of one of the sides of the square)
4 row - 3 st.bn., * 6 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 3 st.bn.
5 row - 4 st.bn., * 8 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 4 st.bn.
6 row - 5 st.bn., * 10 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 5 st.bn.
7th row - 6 st.bn., * 12 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 6 st.bn.
8 row - 7 st.bn., * 14 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 7 st.bn.
9 row - 8 st.bn., * 16 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 8 st.bn.
10 row - 9 st.bn., * 18 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 9 st.bn.
11 row - 10 st.bn., * 20 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 10 st.bn.
12 row - 11 st.bn., * 22 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 11 st.bn.
13 row - 12 st.bn., * 24 st.bn., 3 v.p. *, 12 st.bn.

Now we knit a semicircle on one of the sides of the square:
from the central loop of the side of the square (this is where we should have had a thread - the end of the square) we knit 7 columns with 1 crochet (st.sn.) - a small semicircle
turn knitting and expand the semicircle with the following rows:
2 row - * 2 st.sn. in 1 loop, 1 tbsp. *
3 row - * 2 st.sn. in 1 loop, 2 tbsp. *
4 row - * 2 st.sn. in 1 loop, 3 tbsp. *
5 row - * 2 st.sn. in 1 loop, 4 tbsp. *
6 row - * 2 st.sn. in 1 loop, 5 tbsp. *
(do not forget to hook the extreme columns of each row to the base - the side of the square)

Now we take a white thread and tie the perimeter of the resulting heart with single crochets. in inner corner we knit a heart air chain from 20 loops (for a loop). the second white row is all composed of semicircles, each of which consists of 6 st.sn.
we tie the loop of the suspension with columns without a crochet.

You can knit potholders, coasters and hearts for napkins and jewelry according to any scheme suggested below.

A heart-shaped potholder will not only be useful in the kitchen, but also decorate it. To make the potholder look even more interesting, it can be decorated with an application in the form of bright multi-colored tulips.

Today's master class for beginners will tell you how to sew a pot holder with an appliqué.

To make a heart tack, we need:

  • green fabric;
  • colored fabric striped;
  • shreds of plain fabric of red, yellow and pink flowers;
  • synthetic winterizer;

  2. Using a paper pattern, cut out the front of the potholder from green fabric.

  3. We cut out the same detail from striped fabric.

  4. And one more detail - we will cut out a heart from a synthetic winterizer.

  5. Cut out three tulips from red, yellow and pink fabric.

  6. We take tulips to the green part of the pot holder.

  7. Sew the tulips with a zigzag stitch, matching the threads to the color of the tulips. I'll take out the note.

  8. We fold the striped part of the tack with the part from the synthetic winterizer and make several vertical lines.

  9. We fold this part with the green part of the tack, aligning their front sides. We sew the details along the edge, leaving a hole on the side so that the potholder can be turned inside out.

  10. Turn out the heart tack.

  11. We sew the hole on the tack by hand.

  12. Sew a yellow bindweed around the edge of the pot holder. In the upper part of the potholder we will make a loop from the braid.
