Survey

Rarely is a holiday complete without such a popular decoration as a garland. Stretched across the entire hall, it immediately creates a festive mood. You can buy it at the store, but it’s better to make it yourself. You can make original garlands with your own hands from corrugated paper (and any other) - an inexpensive, colorful and easy-to-use material.

We offer several original ideas and master classes that will help you make your home festive and elegant.

This decoration can be made very easily and quickly. We will need: corrugated paper, scissors and glue.

Step one. We cut one piece from two rolls of corrugated paper of different colors, 2 to 4 cm wide. As a result, we will get two small rolls.

Step two. Glue the ends of the rolls together as shown in the diagram.

Step three. We throw one ribbon over the gluing area and align it. Next, fold the second ribbon in the same way. We continue to layer the paper ribbons crosswise.

Step four. We intertwine both ribbons to the end and get this stack of multi-colored layers. Glue the ends of the ribbons and unfold your creation. The elegant garland, made by yourself, is ready.

From regular colored paper:

Multi-colored holiday garland

In order to make such a bright garland, we will need three colors of corrugated paper, scissors and a sewing machine.

Operating procedure:

  1. Cut out three ribbons of different colors from paper. We fold two ribbons overlapping, then cover them with a third ribbon on top.
  2. Next, we sew all three ribbons in the center with one seam, that is, in the place where they connect. To prevent the ribbons from coming apart, you can baste them first.
  3. We gather the stitched ribbon by carefully pulling the ends of the threads. We have created an original multi-colored garland that can decorate any holiday.

Garland with fringe

For creativity, we only need a roll of corrugated paper, a sewing machine and scissors.

Operating procedure:

  1. Cut the whole roll into several small rolls. Roll them out and get long ribbons.
  2. We fold the ribbons in several layers, sew them in the middle and bend them in half. We trim the edges of the ribbons using curly scissors.
  3. Next, cut the fine fringe, leaving the middle untouched. We straighten the ribbon and get an airy and fluffy garland. Even a schoolchild can make it with his own hands and with the help of his mother.

Garland of paper bows

You can even make a stylish holiday garland from bows. We will need several rolls of corrugated paper of different colors, glue, scissors and thin string.

Operating procedure:

  1. We make bows using a diagram that clearly shows the entire work process.
  2. We string bows on a string and decorate the festive hall.

Garland "Hawaiian beads"

We will need: thread to match the color of the garland, scissors and a large amount of corrugated paper.

Operating procedure:

  1. We cut long strips of paper 5 cm wide. We begin to lay even stitches “with the needle forward” in the center of the strip. After three or four stitches, we tighten the paper into an accordion.
  2. Next, we turn the resulting bundle of paper clockwise, make a few more stitches further on the strip, pull together a new bundle and turn it in the same direction. As a result, we will get a kind of paper spiral.
  3. We continue to make stitches and pull the paper into bundles until the strip runs out. Next, we sew the ends of the “Hawaiian beads” together. In this way, you can make a garland with your own hands to decorate a New Year tree, a Hawaiian party, or a wedding car.

How to make a heart-shaped garland

Homemade heart pendants are best suited for decorating a Valentine's Day party or wedding anniversary, but they can also be used for other family celebrations. There are a lot of options for garlands of hearts, we offer the simplest and cutest one.

You will need:

  • colored paper (sheets from a school creativity kit are quite suitable);
  • decorative twine;
  • scissors;
  • stapler;
  • hole puncher.

Traditionally, hearts are made of pink paper, however, if desired, you can cut them out in different colors.

  1. Cut the paper into strips. For one heart you will need two strips 17 x 2.5 cm long, two 14 x 2.5 cm, two 11 x 2.5 cm and one strip 9 x 2.5 cm.
  2. Alternately fold each strip in half, and without bending, insert into each other according to the “matryoshka” principle according to the diagram in Fig. 2-4.
  3. Connect the ends of the strips with a stapler. Half the heart is ready. Form the second half in the same way.
  4. Connect the halves with a stapler, inserting a “tail” (the shortest strip of paper) between them. Using a hole punch, make holes in the top of the “tails” (Fig. 5).
  5. All you have to do is string the hearts onto a string and secure them with a knot. An elegant garland made of colored paper is ready.

Stretching garland of hearts

Simple and beautiful garlands, stretching like an accordion, will become the highlight of the decor of both a romantic and children's party. All you need is thick paper of different colors, scissors and glue.

  • First you need to cut out heart templates from cardboard - one larger, the other smaller. Each heart consists of 2 halves of the same color.
  • Using templates, cut out the required number of blanks. Bend those halves of the hearts that are larger in size, as shown in Fig. Fold the 3 smaller ones in the center.
  • Glue the volumetric hearts together as shown in Figure 4-6. Let the glue dry.
  • Now we form our garland. Carefully connect the ends of the different colored hearts using glue. When it has completely hardened, the accordion garland can be stretched and bent. These decorations make it easy to entertain the youngest holiday guests.

Luxurious flower garland

Ceiling pendants in the form of exotic inflorescences look very impressive. Making these paper garlands with your own hands is not at all difficult. We need:

  • paper (multi-colored thin paper for flowers and thicker green paper for leaves);
  • stapler;
  • hole puncher;
  • decorative twine.

  1. Fold a sheet of colored paper into an accordion shape. We fix the middle of the accordion with a stapler.
  2. Give the edges a triangular shape (for flowers with pointed petals) or any other shape.
  3. Using sharp scissors, we give the petals a concave shape.
  4. We cut out stencils for the leaves and for the core of the flowers. We glue the cores on both sides of each inflorescence, punch 2 holes in the leaves with a hole punch and string them on string.
  5. Alternating inflorescences with leaves, we form our garland. Instead of leaves, you can cut out patterns of butterflies, stars, suns from paper - it all depends on your imagination.

We sew garlands on... a sewing machine!

If for a holiday you need to make as many garlands as possible, but time is short, just sew them on a sewing machine! You will get simple and effective decorations that are convenient for decorating windows and ceilings.

  1. Cut out more blanks for the garland using stencils. The figures can be anything: stars, men, circles, trefoils, etc. Only thick paper is suitable for cutting, preferably so-called velor paper.
  2. Pull 20-30 cm of thread from the eye of the sewing machine needle (for the ends of the garland).
  3. In the sewing machine settings, set the stitching pitch to the widest possible (since the paper is thinner than the fabric, it is better not to overuse the number of holes.
  4. When you reach the edge of the first piece, do not cut the thread. Gently pull it, releasing 7-10 cm of thread. Then place another piece under the needle and stitch it. Thus, you can make a garland of any length. Don't forget to leave 20-30 cm of free thread after the last stitched workpiece.

Simple paper flags

Let's remember our kindergarten lessons and make the simplest holiday garland. To do this, simply take a rectangular piece of colored paper and bend it in half. We cut out the double blank using the necessary templates.

We will consider them blanks that we will use to make paper flags with Happy Birthday greetings. They can be made from colored paper, sheets of glossy magazines, old books, or just white writing paper. The main thing is, after giving them the desired shape, make applications from the letters or simply draw them on the flag.

Garland with applications

Our paper flags are already ready. Now you need to stick on them the inscription “Birthday” or “Happy Birthday!” from letters. The photo shows the entire alphabet. You can make the templates you need by enlarging the image.

Cut out the desired letters using stencils from multi-colored paper, decorate them with rhinestones, flowers, bows and stick them on paper flags. Then throw them over a stretched cord and form festive garlands. Don't forget to glue the inside sides of the workpiece so that the flags do not fall off the thread.

Flag letters

No birthday should be forgotten! Even if you weren't able to collect enough coins from your ice cream purchase to buy a gift, don't despair. Your garland will be a pleasant surprise for your mother.

Cut out the desired letters from thick paper. Take the letters from the top photo as templates or use ones copied from the Internet. For example, such as our “S”, “D” and “N”. Collect them into the phrase “Happy Birthday!”

Stretch a beautiful braid, tying it to studs on the wall, for example. Attach the letters to the braid in the desired order, forming a garland. This can be done using a stapler, pins, glue and even regular clothespins. Paper flags in the shape of letters will look even more beautiful if you decorate them with felt-tip pens and paste them with confetti.

Flags with fans

They certainly didn’t make such complex flags within the walls of a kindergarten. Although, there is nothing complicated about them, except the fan itself. These are ordinary triangular paper flags, decorated with small round fans with letters glued on them.

  1. Take a piece of colored paper with a width equal to the diameter of the future fan and fold it into an accordion. Fold it in half and glue the two halves of one side together. You will get a semicircle. Fold two semicircles and glue them together. Glue the corrugated circle for the garland to the flag.
  2. Cut out a smaller circle or square and glue it to the fan.
  3. Glue the cut out letter on top. Punch two holes with a stapler. The checkbox is ready.
  4. Collect a garland and hang it on the wall.

Paper garland - as a way to decorate your home

Many famous interior designers recommend taking a closer look and studying ways to decorate your home with paper elements, in particular we are talking about garlands. After all, to make serious changes to the interior, you need a little money, as well as a temporary resource, replacing almost all the furniture, and rearranging the house.

And making a change using an element such as a garland is as easy as shelling pears. People just need to show their imagination and “live” creativity.

Photos of DIY garlands can be viewed on the Internet - all garlands differ from each other in their charm, originality and individuality.

When asking yourself the question of how to make a garland for your home yourself, the most varied solutions and methods of creation come to mind.

To begin the process of creating a garland, you need to mentally decide on their future shape and color. After all, depending on the shape of the garland, the selection of material for its manufacture also depends. There are light garlands made of plain paper, and some are made of cardboard.

Of course, dense material in the form of cardboard is a reliable and more durable material that will not fail even after a long time. But the fastening of such elements to each other should be stronger, and not as for the first type.

There are several types of garlands that you can build with your own hands:

Garland based on balloons

A garland of balloons is usually suitable for one-time use. For example, it can be created for some event: a children's party, birthday or wedding celebration.

But most often it is a children's garland. Bright balloons can be connected into an arch, into figures of angels, into voluminous hearts, or simply placed along the entire length of the wall.

Making such a garland at home is more difficult and takes longer, so many people order this type of garland in ready-made form from special establishments. But, if you start this process at home, you can save your expenses rather than spending money on the services of special agencies.

Garland of paper rings

This technology for creating a garland has been known to everyone since early childhood. Back at school, everyone made a garland from multi-colored rings cut out of paper. By connecting these rings, you get a long garland in the form of a chain.

It is very simple to make, but if you choose the colors wisely and add additional decor, you can get the ideal solution for decorating the whole house.

When connecting the rings to each other, special attention should be paid to the attachment points, since if the garland is poorly attached, you can get a poor-quality result.

Note!

Garland of paper hearts

Many couples in love can create such a garland for a romantic evening for two, so as not to spend money on decorating the house. The shape of the garland and, of course, the bright pink and red hues make this garland a must-have for a holiday like Valentine's Day.

Some people create such garlands and even sell them on Valentine's Day. And, oddly enough, people willingly buy such handmade work. The main thing is to do everything carefully and get the desired result.

When creating paper garlands, it is not necessary to use only high-quality blank paper; some people give preference to newspaper sheets, napkins, clippings from a glossy magazine, bright candy wrappers, and old cards given for some holidays.

This is also a kind of individual style of making a garland at home. For fastening, both the most common PVA glue and more durable adhesives such as moment, etc. are used.
