I added 1-2 cm to the length of the foot. Babies do not wear booties on their bare feet, and they grow quickly. You can add 3 cm if you expect to wear booties for six months/year.

I chose the pattern that, in my opinion, is best suited for a narrow or standard leg. If the baby is chubby, then it is better to choose an oval pattern, without narrowing the heel.

It is also worth considering that the higher the columns, the looser the fabric. I like to knit bootie soles using single crochets or half double crochets. The sole needs to be knitted in two copies, 1 for each bootie. Or 2 if you need a thicker, warmer sole.

The length of the sole is equal to the length of the child’s foot plus 1-2 cm. We chose a sole pattern and knitted 2 identical copies. Next we knit the side of the booties - 2-3 rows of double crochets along the edge of the sole, without increases or decreases.

Tip: for the border, knit double crochets behind the back half-loop of the stitches of the last row of the sole. Then you will have a clear outline of the edge of the sole. Along this edge you can beautifully tie the sole.
