About the calculator for calculating the number of vacation days

The vacation days calculator will easily allow you to find out how many days of vacation the employee has accumulated at one time or another.

Legislative basis for calculating vacation days

The calculation of vacation time is made in accordance with Art. 121 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

Why know your vacation record?

The time spent working for one employer, which gives the right to take annual leave, which will be paid, may be needed not only to directly calculate this period, but also to know how many days are subject to compensation upon dismissal.

What is included in the vacation experience?

An employee who works continuously for the same employer will be entitled to annual leave, taking into account the following periods:

  • the time when he actually performed his duties;
  • periods when the employee was absent from work, but his place was retained (vacation, sick leave, maternity leave, military service, etc.);
  • weekends and other non-working days;
  • forced absence from work due to illegal dismissal;
  • suspension due to untimely completion of a medical examination (if this is not the employee’s fault);
  • additional administrative leave (no more than two weeks per calendar year).

IMPORTANT! Changes were made to the legislation regarding the accrual of length of service during administrative leave:

  • from 12/30/2001 to 10/05. 2006, no more than 7 days of vacation at your own expense per year were taken into account;
  • from 10/06/2006 this limit increased to 14 days.

What is not included in the vacation experience

Some periods of time will not be taken into account when calculating the length of service required for leave, namely:

  • employee absenteeism;
  • suspension due to alcohol, drug or toxic intoxication;
  • denial of permission to work due to ignorance or failure to pass safety regulations;
  • the employee did not undergo a mandatory medical examination due to his own fault;
  • inability to perform work according to a medical report;
  • termination of a license required for work (for example, a driver’s license, a weapons permit, etc.);
  • leave to care for a child over 1.5 years old.

Counting Features

The basis is the duration of annual leave of 28 days, unless otherwise established for special categories of employees.

In the first year of work, the minimum length of service to be able to go on vacation must be at least six months. This is not included in the calculator, just keep it in mind.

In case of dismissal, employees who have worked for at least 11 months will be able to receive 100% compensation for unused vacation days.

If an employee went on vacation before 11 months of continuous work and was then dismissed, then part of the vacation pay received in advance upon dismissal will have to be returned to him.

It is prohibited not to take annual leave for more than 2 years in a row.

It is allowed to break the vacation into parts, but one of the parts should not be shorter than 2 weeks.

A calculator of days between two dates can be useful for an accountant or HR manager. This calculation tool will also help a lawyer when, in order to file a lawsuit, he needs to find out the number of days the payment is overdue.

  • how many calendar days have passed between two given dates;
  • how many working days and hours are there in the period you specify;
  • how many days off there were in the period you specified.

How to use the days between two dates calculator

You only need two values. In the appropriate fields of the calculator you need to indicate the start and end dates of the period - day, month and year. Simply click on the desired cell with the left mouse button and select the desired option from the list.

You should also set the number of working hours per day. For example, for office workers the standard working day is 8 hours, but in production a work shift can last 10 hours. By default, the calculator indicates 8 working hours per day.

After you enter the required values into the fields of the calculator, the full calculation will be displayed on the right. In it you will see the number of calendar and working days, as well as the number of working hours according to the specified parameters.

Example. The director of Mechta LLC gave instructions to the chief accountant to calculate the number of hours worked in the fourth quarter of 2018. During this period, all employees of the company worked according to schedule and did not go on vacation. The chief accountant opened an online calculator and entered the following data:

Starting date: 10/01/2018

End date: 12/31/2018

The chief accountant left the “Number of working hours” field unchanged.

The calculator automatically performed the calculation and produced the following numbers:

  • calendar days - 92;
  • working days - 65;
  • working hours - 520.

The date calculator is designed to calculate the number of days between dates, as well as to find a date by adding or subtracting a certain number of days to a known date.

Add days to date

In order to find out what date will be in a certain number of days, use this option. Enter the starting date and the number of days to add to it. To subtract, use a minus value. The calculator also has an option to add only working days.

Calculating the number of days between dates

This calculation method will answer the question "how many days have passed since the date". Enter the start date and end date and click the "calculate" button. The calculator will show how many days there are between the entered dates. Separately, the calculator will show the number of working days.

Using this option, you can calculate how many days are left until a certain event, for example, a birthday or holiday. To do this, enter today's date in the start date field, and the event date in the end date field.

Holidays

The calculator can calculate, add and subtract both calendar days and working days. Official non-working holidays are:

  • January 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 - New Year holidays
  • January 7 - Orthodox Christmas
  • February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day
  • March 8 - International Women's Day
  • May 1 - Spring and Labor Day
  • May 9 - Victory Day
  • June 12 - Russia Day
  • November 4 - National Unity Day

If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is moved to the next working day. But sometimes the weekend is moved to a completely different place on the calendar. For example, Saturday and Sunday that fall on the New Year holidays may be moved to May in order to extend the May holidays.

So, in 2019 the situation is as follows...

Postponement of holidays in 2019

In addition to the official holiday dates, in 2019 the weekends are also May 2, 3 and 10 due to the postponement of the weekend from the New Year holidays.

When calculating days, our calculator takes into account both official holiday dates and all transfers.

To perform certain tasks in Excel, you need to determine how many days have passed between certain dates. Fortunately, the program has tools that can solve this issue. Let's find out how you can calculate the date difference in Excel.

Before you start working with dates, you need to format the cells to fit this format. In most cases, when you enter a set of characters similar to a date, the cell itself is reformatted. But it’s better to do it manually to protect yourself from surprises.

Now the program will recognize all the data that will be contained in the selected cells as a date.

Method 1: simple calculation

The easiest way to calculate the difference in days between dates is to use the usual formula.

Method 2: RAZNDAT function

You can also use a special function to calculate the difference in dates RAZNDAT. The problem is that it is not in the Function Wizard list, so you will have to enter the formula manually. Its syntax looks like this:

RAZNDAT(start_date, end_date, unit)

"Unit"— this is the format in which the result will be displayed in the selected cell. The units in which the total will be returned depends on which character is inserted into this parameter:

  • "y" - full years;
  • "m" - full months;
  • "d" - days;
  • "YM" - difference in months;
  • “MD” is the difference in days (months and years are not taken into account);
  • “YD” is the difference in days (years are not taken into account).

You should also note that, unlike the simple formula method described above, when using this function, the start date should be in the first place, and the end date in the second. Otherwise, the calculations will be incorrect.

Method 3: calculating the number of working days

In Excel it is also possible to calculate working days between two dates, that is, excluding weekends and holidays. To do this, use the function CHISTRABNI. Unlike the previous operator, it is present in the Function Wizard list. The syntax for this function is as follows:

NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date, [holidays])

In this function the main arguments are the same as those of the operator RAZNDAT– start and end date. There is also an optional argument "Holidays".

Instead, you should substitute the dates of non-working holidays, if any, for the period covered. The function calculates all days of the specified range, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, as well as those days added by the user to the argument "Holidays".

After the above manipulations, the number of working days for the specified period will be displayed in the pre-selected cell.

As you can see, Excel provides its users with quite convenient tools for calculating the number of days between two dates. At the same time, if you just need to calculate the difference in days, then the best option would be to use a simple subtraction formula rather than using the function RAZNDAT. But if you need, for example, to count the number of working days, then the function will come to the rescue NETWORKDAYS. That is, as always, the user should decide on the execution tool after he has set a specific task.

If on an Excel sheet you work not only with numbers, graphs, pictures, but also with dates, then you have probably encountered a situation where you needed to calculate the difference between them. For example, you need to determine the number of days or months for a certain period of time, or calculate the age of a person so that the result is in days, months and years, or maybe you need to calculate exactly working days.

There is already an article about calculating the difference in Excel on the site, and in it I touched on dates a little. But now let's look at this issue in more detail and figure out how to calculate the number of days between two dates in a simple way or using the RAZNDAT() function, and how to determine the number of working days.

Method 1: Subtraction

Let's start with the simplest thing - subtract the second from one date, and get the value we need. Before doing this, make sure that the format of the cells in which the numbers are written is “Date”.

If you haven’t filled them in yet, then select the range you want to work with and click on the small arrow next to the name of the “Number” group.

In the window that opens on the left, select the format that suits us, and then in the main area, decide on the type: 03/14/12, 14 Mar 12 or another. Click "OK".

In those cells for which you just changed the format, enter data. I filled out A1 and B1. Now you need to select any cell (D1) in which the general data format is set, otherwise the calculations will be incorrect. Put “=” in it and press first the late (B1) date, then the early (A1). To calculate the number of days between them, press “Enter”.

Method 2: Using a function

To do this, select the cell in which the result will be (B3), and make sure that the general format is selected for it.

To calculate days we will use the AZNDAT() function. It includes three arguments: start and end date, unit. Unit is what we want to get the result in. Substituted here:

“d” – number of days;
“m” – number of full months;
“y” – number of full years;
“md” – will count days without taking into account months and years;
“yd” – counting days without taking into account only years;
“ym” – will count the months without taking into account the year.

We put an equal sign in B3, write RAZNDAT and open the bracket. Then select the early date (A1), then the latest date (B1), put a suitable unit in quotes and close the bracket. Place ";" between all arguments. . To calculate, press "Enter".

I came up with this formula:

RAZNDAT(A1;B1;"d")

Choosing “d” as the unit, I got the result - 111.

If you change this value, for example, to “md”, then the formula will calculate the difference between 5 and 24 without taking into account months and years.

By changing this argument in this way, it will be possible to derive the exact age of the person. In one cell there will be years “y”, the second month “ym”, the third day “md”

Method 3: counting working days

For example, let's take this sign. In column A we have the beginning of the month or the starting date of the countdown, in B we have the end of the month or countdown. This function counts working days without taking into account Saturday and Sunday, but there are also holidays in the months, so we will fill column C with the corresponding dates.

NETWORKDAYS(A5;B5;C5)

As arguments we indicate the start date (A5), then the end date (B5). The last argument is holidays (C5). We separate them with ";" .

By pressing “Enter” the result will appear, in the example cell D5 – 21 days.

Now consider if there are several holidays in a month. For example, in January there is New Year and Christmas. Select cell (D6) and put equal in it. Then click on the letter “f” in the formula bar. A window will open "Insert a function". In the Category field, select "Complete alphabetical list" and find the function you need in the list. Click "OK".

Next you need to select the function arguments. In “Start_date” we select the initial value (A6), in “End_date” we select the final value (B6). In the last field, enter the dates of holidays in parentheses () and quotation marks "". Then click "OK".

As a result, we will get the following function and the value will be calculated without taking into account weekends and specified holidays:

NETWORKDAYS(A6;B6;("01/01/17";"01/07/17"))

To avoid entering holidays manually, you can specify a specific range in the corresponding field. Mine is C6:C7.

The working days will be counted, and the function will look like:

NETWORKDAYS(A6;B6;C6:C7)

Now let's do the calculations for the last month. Enter the function and fill in its arguments:

NETWORKDAYS(A8;B8;C8)

In February there were 19 working days.

I wrote a separate article about other date and time functions in Excel, and you can read it by following the link.
