Drugs during pregnancy for nausea. Cerucal for pregnant women Cerucal for pregnant women instructions for use

Ureaplasmosis

In the first months of pregnancy, women experience not only the happiness of future motherhood, but also manifestations of toxicosis - bouts of vomiting, severe nausea, general weakness, dehydration. The severity of the manifestation of such symptoms is varied: from mild, when tea with lemon, mint, lemon balm helps, to severe, in which hospitalization and medical care are required. "Cerucal" during pregnancy is prescribed only in the most extreme cases, when a toxic condition threatens the life and health of the mother and baby.

Causes of toxicosis

The main causes of bouts of vomiting and nausea are changes in hormonal levels and the effect of fetal metabolic products on the mother's body. By the beginning of the second trimester, the placenta practically matures, and toxicosis gradually begins to pass on its own. That is why the question of whether "Cerucal" is possible during pregnancy is relevant up to 13 weeks.

So, how effective is the drug for toxicosis, how does it affect the fetus, can it be taken at all during the period of gestation?

General characteristics of "Cerucal"

Cerucal is an antiemetic drug. Once it enters the body, it affects the receptors in the stomach, which send certain signals to the brain (to the vomiting center). These signals are blocked, so there is no urge. As a result of this mechanism, hiccups are also prevented.

The food eaten naturally moves into the intestines. The drug accelerates its further advancement, in which case its work will also be normalized.

"Cerucal" is produced in the form of tablets and solutions for injection.

Indications for taking the drug

The drug can only be taken as directed by a doctor. The main indications for admission:

  • Profuse and frequent vomiting.
  • Nausea.
  • Hiccups.
  • Inflammation of the esophagus.
  • Stomach cramps.
  • Low activity of the digestive system.

These are the most common reasons for which "Cerucal" is prescribed during pregnancy. But even if these symptoms are present, the doctor prescribes this drug very carefully. He compares the risks and the need, especially for the appointment of "Cerucal" during early pregnancy. Each case is individual.

There is one more symptom of toxicosis, due to which the administration of "Cerucal" is prescribed - profuse salivation. If the symptom is not prevented, it can lead to dehydration and hospitalization, where the woman will be injected with the drug "Cerucal".

Can I use the drug during pregnancy?

Only an experienced doctor can correctly and adequately assess the condition of a pregnant woman and the need to take the drug. If you believe their reviews, about "Cerucal" during early pregnancy, then it stops vomiting, improves the well-being of a woman. During treatment, the doctor periodically checks the state of health and well-being of the pregnant woman; at the first signs of deterioration, he cancels the drug.

It should be noted that taking "Cerucal" during early pregnancy (first trimester) is prohibited. But it is during this period that toxicosis in women develops strongly and the doctor adequately and proportionally assesses the risk from toxicosis and the risk from taking the drug. In urgent need, he prescribes a drug.

Unfortunately, there are times when women, having learned about the effectiveness of "Cerucal", start taking the drug on their own. This leads to serious complications, and sometimes to increased toxicosis.

Early drug

So, "Cerucal" during early pregnancy is prescribed, if only refusal from it can harm the child more than taking it. But with all this, the medicine is not recommended during this period, since it can cause the tone of the uterus and intestines, and provoke a miscarriage.

The drug also activates the formation of prolactin, which provokes milk production and uterine contraction.

You can take "Cerucal" during pregnancy, but a specialist should appoint it, weighing all the risks and possible consequences of taking it.

Contraindications

Despite all the benefits of "Cerucal", it has many contraindications. It is prohibited to use it in the following cases:

  • Individual intolerance to the active components of the drug.
  • Bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Epilepsy.
  • Bronchial asthma.
  • First trimester of pregnancy.
  • Tumors.

If at least one of the above indications is typical for a pregnant woman, it is better for her not to take risks and refuse to take "Cerucal" during pregnancy. In addition, the drug can cause allergies in the form of skin rashes, provoke uterine tone and lead to spontaneous abortion.

If the drug is not taken as directed by a doctor, it can lead to the following side effects:

  • An increase in the number of heartbeats.
  • Irritability, feeling of anxiety.
  • Headaches, noises in the head, dizziness.
  • Increased sleepiness.
  • Depression.
  • Strong and sharp decrease or increase in blood pressure.
  • Convulsions.
  • Bowel disorder.

Risks

“Cerucal is always prescribed with caution during pregnancy, since the consequences of taking this drug can affect both the health of the mother herself and the development and well-being of the fetus. In the early stages, it is prohibited, because the risk of developing complications and defects in a child is very high; after 12 weeks of pregnancy, it becomes relatively safe.

"Cerucal" enhances the peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract, and at the beginning of the term, this effect of the drug can lead to miscarriage due to hypertonicity of the uterus. But such a threat exists throughout pregnancy, therefore, even after 12 weeks, it is prescribed only in cases of extreme necessity.

In addition, it should be noted that in the second and third trimesters, a frequent side effect of the drug is an increase in the secretion of the adrenal hormone, due to the action of which water and salt are retained in the body. As a result, the risk of developing preeclampsia increases several times - late toxicosis of pregnant women, which can lead to serious and dangerous consequences.

Taking into account all possible side effects and risks, the drug is prescribed only for severe manifestations of toxicosis. Reviews of "Cerucal" during pregnancy are mostly positive, women note that it eliminates nausea and vomiting, but some pregnant women note the development of complications such as edema, dizziness, bleeding, headaches, diarrhea.

Instructions

"Cerucal" during pregnancy is prescribed only by an obstetrician-gynecologist, he selects dosages and methods of application.

If the symptoms of toxicosis are pronounced, but vomiting is intermittent, then the drug is used in the form of tablets. The active components of the drug begin to act in half an hour. Prescribed to take 1 tablet 3 times a day, course - 4 weeks.

The medicine is taken 30 minutes before meals, washed down with plenty of water. Tea, milk, or other beverages can reduce the medicinal properties of the drug. If activated charcoal is prescribed together with an antiemetic agent, then their intake should be divided in time, with a break between them for at least an hour.

If the toxicosis has an acute form and it is necessary to immediately stop vomiting, then "Cerucal" is taken in the form of injections, the action of which begins after 3 minutes with intravenous administration and after 15 minutes with intramuscular administration.

Overdose

If the recommendations of the attending physician regarding the doses of the drug are not followed, an overdose may occur. It manifests itself in the form of insomnia or, on the contrary, excessive sleepiness. Blood pressure may sharply drop or rise, a feeling of fear, obsessions, and excessive irritability may appear.

In some relatively rare cases, diazepam (sedative, anti-anxiety, sedative) is administered to her to get the patient out of this state.

With a mild overdose, all symptoms disappear a day after stopping the intake. All this time, the woman is better under the supervision of a doctor.

Injections

Injections of "Cerucala" during pregnancy are prescribed by a doctor, and the entire course of treatment is carried out under his supervision. The drug is administered either intravenously or intramuscularly. The dose is selected according to the results of the examination and depends on the symptoms and the severity of the woman's situation.

Tablets

When prescribing tablets, the doctor takes into account the expected effect of the drug and the possible consequences. Comparing these indicators, he decides on the dosage and course of treatment. The tablets are taken in the dose strictly recommended by the doctor, without missing a dose or exceeding the dose. If a woman is taking other medications on an ongoing basis, the doctor should be told about this so that he can check their compatibility.

Many women suffer from toxicosis during pregnancy. Most often this happens at the initial stages. Nausea and vomiting make life very difficult for expectant mothers. Cerucal is a remedy that will help to cope with these unpleasant symptoms

Action of Cerucal

Huge hormonal changes occur during pregnancy. A constantly growing child secretes products of his vital activity, which are excreted by the mother's body. As a result, a normal meal can end in vomiting, and nausea becomes a constant companion of a woman. Hiccups, profuse salivation, pain and cramps in the stomach, and stool disturbance lead to exhaustion and dehydration.

Cerucal is an antiemetic agent, the active substance of which is metoclopramide hydrochloride monohydrate. It prevents gastric receptors from transmitting signals to the brain by blocking them. Thus, digestion goes without problems.

According to the instructions, Cerucal is contraindicated in pregnancy, especially in the first 12 weeks. It can be taken in the II and III trimesters only for health reasons. Although experimental studies have not established the adverse effect of metoclopramide on the fetus, there is no reliable data on the effect of the drug on the child. Many of the described cases of the use of the drug by expectant mothers show that if the dosage is observed, nothing bad happens to the baby.

In what cases and in what trimester the drug is prescribed

The decision to use Cerucal is made by the specialist observing the woman. He assesses her condition, weight, features of pregnancy. The drug can be prescribed if the expectant mother is worried about:

  • frequent vomiting;
  • persistent nausea;
  • profuse salivation;
  • poor digestion;
  • stomach cramps;
  • inflammation of the esophagus;
  • regurgitation of food.

Despite the contraindications, Cerucal is also used in the first trimester, but this must be done with great care. It increases the contractility of the stomach muscles, which can lead to hypertonicity of the uterus and spontaneous miscarriages. At a later date, the drug is prescribed if refusing it harms the baby more than taking it. As a result of the use of the drug after 30 weeks, the likelihood of a violation of motor activity in a child is not excluded.

Cerucal in injections and tablets

Cerucal is available in the form:

  • solution for intramuscular or intravenous administration;
  • tablets.

The tablets are prescribed to relieve the condition of a woman experiencing the above symptoms. They are completely absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. In cases where immediate help is needed, for example, you need to quickly stop vomiting, intramuscular injections are given. Their action begins in a quarter of an hour. When administered intravenously, the effect is noticeable after 2-3 minutes.

Contraindications and side effects

Cerucal is a good and reliable help, but it has many contraindications. These include:

  • pregnancy;
  • intolerance to the components;
  • glaucoma;
  • mechanical intestinal obstruction;
  • perforation of the stomach or intestines;
  • any tumors;
  • epilepsy.

Every woman expecting a baby should also know about the side effects of Cerucal. If at least one of them is found, the drug is stopped. Negative effects disappear within a day after cancellation. Among them there are:

  • anxiety, irritability;
  • lethargy, drowsiness, depression;
  • increase or decrease in pressure;
  • headache;
  • convulsions;
  • constipation, diarrhea;
  • dizziness, noise in the head;
  • dry mouth;
  • rash on the skin.

The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has established a risk category for Cerucal B. This means relative safety during pregnancy: animal studies have not revealed a negative effect on the fetus, but there is no clinical data on the effect on the female body and the child's condition.

How long can you take

Tablets are the most common dosage form for Cerucal. They are taken half an hour before meals with plenty of water. They begin to act in 30-40 minutes. You can drink no more than four pieces a day. But these are general guidelines. In each individual case, the dosage and duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.

Analogues and replacement options

There are many drugs with the active substance metoclopramide, which are analogues of Cerucal. These include:

  • Metamol;
  • Metoclopramide;
  • Perinorm;
  • Raglan;
  • Ceruglan.

In addition to analogues, there are drugs with other active ingredients that also help with toxicosis.

The first trimester in many women is accompanied by toxicosis. For many, the symptoms are so severe that they have to resort to medication. That is why doctors often prescribe Cerucal during pregnancy. Toxicosis is caused by the fact that the hormonal background changes sharply, and this affects the nervous system.

In addition, the growing body also has waste products that negatively affect the condition of the woman. By the beginning of the second trimester, this usually goes away, as the placenta begins to work, but before that, women need help. Cerucal during pregnancy is prescribed to a woman in the treatment of symptomatic toxicosis.

The drug can be taken only as directed by a specialist, there are basic indications for taking cerucal:

  • frequent, profuse vomiting;
  • constant feeling of nausea;
  • hiccups caused by various reasons, except for the case when it is caused by a disturbance in the work of the vestibular apparatus;
  • inflammation of the esophagus (regurgitation of food);
  • stomach cramps;
  • decreased activity in the digestive system.

These are the most common reasons why experts prescribe cerucal during pregnancy. But even if you have these symptoms, your doctor will carefully prescribe this drug for you, weighing the risk and need, especially in the early stages. Each appointment is considered individually.

Prescribing the drug

Another symptom of toxicosis and the reason why cerucal may be prescribed is profuse salivation. It can lead to dehydration of the body, and this is a direct path to hospitalization of a pregnant woman. Cerucal acts as a receptor blocker that transmits a signal to the brain. Thanks to the drug, the latter does not receive information about irritation, vomiting and its consequences stop.

It is said that the drug can only be used after 13 weeks of pregnancy. That is why experts, after assessing a woman's condition, determine the possibility of injecting cerucal (more often in the second half of pregnancy), because this helps her to cope with unpleasant symptoms. At the beginning of the second trimester, the drug does not cause strong concerns, since the threat of miscarriage decreases. Often, a medicine in the form of a solution for injection is used in hospitals when a woman is emaciated and is put on storage.

The action of the drug in the early stages

The need to take medication often occurs in pregnant women at an early stage, when a fairly severe toxicosis begins. But the decision on admission can only be made by a specialist who observes a woman. To begin with, he must assess the condition of the woman, her weight, features of pregnancy, timing and some other factors, and only after that make the right decision.

Cerucal is prescribed in the first trimester of pregnancy, if only refusing to take an antiemetic drug can harm the unborn child more than taking it. The drug is an antiemetic agent that can block receptors in the stomach and duodenum. The result is that the brain does not receive the signals of the emetic urge, food passes through the intestines calmly. It also promotes the rapid passage of food through the gastrointestinal tract and normalizes its work.

Cerucal is able to activate the formation of prolactin, which is responsible for milk production in the mammary gland and uterine contraction. Therefore, the decision on whether it is possible to drink cerucal or not during pregnancy must be made with a specialist.

Risks and contraindications

Despite the fact that cerucal has many positive aspects, it also has many contraindications. An antiemetic drug should not be used in such cases:

  • individual intolerance to the active substances and components of the medicinal product;
  • gastrointestinal bleeding;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • epileptic syndrome;
  • increased pressure, also intraocular;
  • the first three months of pregnancy;
  • perforation of the walls of the stomach, intestines;
  • any types of tumors.

If at least one of the points is relevant, it is better not to risk it and refuse to take cerucal during pregnancy. Also, the drug can cause allergic reactions, skin rashes, provoke an increase in maca tone and lead to spontaneous abortion.

For injection

If the drug is taken for other purposes, it can cause the following side effects:

  • increased heart rate;
  • severe anxiety, irritability;
  • headache;
  • a state of drowsiness, depression;
  • a strong increase or decrease in blood pressure;
  • convulsions, extrapyramidal disorders;
  • constipation, diarrhea;
  • increased dry mouth;
  • noises in the head, dizziness.

Correct use of the medication

For a woman during pregnancy, it is very important to follow the recommendations of the gynecologist and follow the instructions for the use of cerucal. He must calculate the required dose and the duration of the medication. At the slightest deterioration in the condition or the appearance of a side effect, it is necessary to stop taking the drug. Therefore, it is important to talk about other medicines if the pregnant woman is taking them. The doctor will calculate the risks of interacting with another medicine.

Cerucal is available in pill and injection form. The active ingredients are the same, only some of the auxiliary elements are different.

Can only be taken as directed by a specialist

The average dose can range from 10 to 15 mg. If the required dose is 10 mg, then the drug is taken once a day, with the recommended dose of 15 mg, it is divided several times by 5-10 mg.

Forms of the drug.

  1. Cerucal during pregnancy in pill form. They are white, round in shape with a stripe in the middle. One tablet of the drug contains metoclopramide hydrochloride monohydrate (10.5 mg), which is 10 mg of anhydrous metoclopramide hydrochloride. It also consists of a gelatin base, silicon dioxide, starch, lactose.
  2. Injections. Injections are made with a clear solution. In one injection, two ampoules of 2 mg. Consists of 10 mg metoclopramide hydrochloride, sodium sulfate, disodium salt, distilled water, carbon dioxide. The drug is administered intravenously and intramuscularly. The dose of an injection of cerucal is prescribed according to the results of the examination and is calculated depending on the severity of the woman's condition during pregnancy.

Cerucal is completely absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, begins to take effect in 30 - 40 minutes. Its action lasts at least 11 hours. Concentration in the blood occurs after 35-50 minutes. If the drug was administered intravenously, it begins to act in a few minutes, intramuscularly - after 15 minutes.

The first weeks of pregnancy in many women are accompanied by early toxicosis. Most often, its symptoms appear in the initial 20 weeks. The main clinical manifestation of toxicosis is vomiting, which is usually preceded by nausea and increased salivation. The intensity of these symptoms determines the severity of the woman's condition.

Causes of nausea and vomiting

The main provoking factor in the onset of symptoms of early toxicosis is the presence of the ovum. In response to its appearance in a woman's body, a cascade of reactions is triggered, which are pathogenetically significant in the development of vomiting in pregnant women.

Scientists have identified a number of theories that explain the development of these symptoms. The toxic concept is considered the oldest. It is based on the poisoning of a woman's body with toxic substances that produce the fetus and placenta. A number of researchers adhere to the endocrine theory, according to which the main reason is considered to be changes in the content of hormones in a woman's body. Thus, the coincidence of the peaks of vomiting with an increase in the content of chorionic gonadotropin and a decrease in the production of corticosteroids by the adrenal glands was revealed. Today, most researchers are of the opinion that all symptoms arise in response to a functional impairment of the central nervous system, aggravated by metabolic and neuroendocrine changes. The fertilized egg has an irritating effect on the receptors of the uterine mucosa, which leads to an increase in the excitability of subcortical formations and an increase in the reaction of the autonomic nervous system to its presence.

Description of the drug Cerucal

The active ingredient is metoclopramide.

The basic principle of work of Cerucal is to block the receptors of the central nervous system. As a result of the cessation of the flow of impulses that come to the vomiting center of the brain from irritated receptors of the stomach and duodenum, vomiting stops. This mechanism allows the food bolus to actively continue its movement in all parts of the intestine.

The main action of Cerucal is to stop vomiting and hiccups.

Forms of the drug

Tablets. They are rounded with a stripe in the middle. One tablet contains the main active ingredient - metoclopramide, as well as additional substances: gelatin, as a base, silicon dioxide, starch and lactose.

Injection. The drug can be administered intravenously and intramuscularly. The dose of each injection is calculated by the doctor, based on the severity of the person's condition.

How to take Cerucal correctly?
Only a doctor can prescribe the drug. The instructions for use indicate the following indications for taking the drug:

  1. Profuse, frequent vomiting.
  2. Strong, long-lasting nausea.
  3. Hiccups of any genesis, with the exception of central origin in violation of the vestibular apparatus.
  4. Decrease in the tone of the work of different parts of the intestine.

If the woman is in a satisfactory condition, the tablet form of the drug is prescribed. They must be taken one tablet 30 minutes before meals, without chewing, drinking plenty of water. The effect comes in 20-30 minutes.

If it is impossible to take pills, in acute critical conditions, an injectable form of the drug is used. With intravenous administration, the effect occurs within five minutes, with intramuscular administration - within fifteen.

Can Cerucal be used during pregnancy?

Any drug has an effect on the entire body as a whole. Therefore, there are such diseases, the course of which is aggravated by taking it.

The main contraindications to the use of Cerucal are:

  1. Tumor diseases.
  2. Acute and chronic blood loss from the gastrointestinal tract.
  3. Epilepsy.
  4. Childhood.
  5. Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
  6. Pregnancy, especially the first trimester.
  7. Lactation period.

Researchers have proven the negative effect of the drug on the fetus and the woman's body during pregnancy.

Why not?

The drug has a teratogenic effect on the development of the fetus, thereby causing the formation of malformations. Since the main part of the child's organs is formed in the first months, therefore, the use of Cerucal during early pregnancy for the treatment of symptoms of toxicosis adversely affects the fetus.

Metoclopramide affects the tone of not only the gastrointestinal tract, but also the uterus. By increasing its tone and stimulating the production of the pituitary hormone prolactin, it causes the synthesis of human milk and the contraction of the uterus. These pathogenetic aspects in the first months of pregnancy can provoke a spontaneous miscarriage. This fact limits the intake of Cerucal during all three trimesters of pregnancy.

From the second trimester of pregnancy, the likelihood of spontaneous miscarriage decreases. In this regard, the use of the drug becomes possible. But only a doctor can prescribe it and calculate the dosage.

However, it is worth remembering that Cerucal stimulates the synthesis of hormones by the adrenal glands, an increase in the content of which leads to the retention of salt and water in the body. Clinically, this is manifested by edema and aggravation of the course of toxicosis.

The decision on the appointment of Cerucal is decided individually. The doctor needs to assess the risks of using this drug for the mother and fetus. Sometimes the manifestation of symptoms of early toxicosis becomes unbearable. The general condition of the mother is disturbed due to constant nausea and vomiting. This leads to an increase in the tone of the uterus. At the same time, the risks for the fetus also increase, since due to vomiting, a woman cannot eat and drink. In this case, the use of the drug is possible.

The main side effects of the drug are:

  1. Diarrhea or constipation.
  2. Change in blood pressure.
  3. Parkinsonism.
  4. Muscular hypertonicity.
  5. Headache.
  6. Dizziness.
  7. Depression.
  8. Drowsiness.
  9. Skin rashes.

Cerucal is an unsafe drug that should not be taken during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy and while breastfeeding. The presence of renal disease in pregnant women increases the likelihood of complications and side effects from taking this drug. Only a doctor can prescribe and calculate the correct dose of the drug, taking into account contraindications and the somatic status of a pregnant woman.

Which are direct signs of toxicosis. In some pregnant women, this symptomatology is present only in the first trimester, in others, throughout pregnancy. Therefore, the question arises of what means can be treated to get rid of discomfort.

Cerucal is an antiemetic agent that acts on nerve endings. They connect the vomiting center of the brain and the organs of the gastrointestinal tract. The drug increases the rate of passage of food from the stomach to the intestines.

Can I drink Cerucal during pregnancy, including in the early stages?

The drug belongs to serious remedies, therefore it is indicated for admission after consulting a doctor from 13 weeks. This is due to the fact that in the process of exposure to active components, muscle tone is strengthened, which can lead to uterine tone.

In the early stages, it can cause spontaneous miscarriage. The threat may persist even at a later date, therefore it is used only according to indications.

Sometimes doctors prescribe Cerucal in the first trimester, but taking it is advisable only if the benefits are greater than the risks to the child. This happens if vomiting occurs so often that it itself leads to the tone of the walls of the uterus.

There is one more feature: in the first trimester of pregnancy, the placenta is just forming. Therefore, it is very difficult to protect the fetus from the negative effects of the drug. Cerucal to a small extent, but has a teratogenic effect on the fetus.

What are they prescribed for?

Cerucal is indicated in cases where the expectant mother is worried about:

  • frequent vomiting;
  • increased salivation;

The drug and hiccups of various origins are relevant. This does not apply to cases when the cause of the condition is a violation in the work of the vestibular apparatus.

Application methods

Cerucal is available in the form of tablets or solutions for intramuscular and intravenous administration.

The tablet form is prescribed in situations where there is no serious threat to the condition and health of the pregnant woman. Such a remedy does not begin to act immediately, so the effect can be noticed after about 30-40 minutes.

The dosage and duration of treatment is determined individually, but you cannot take more than 4 pieces per day.

Injections are given if urgent help is needed. If you experience any negative sensations after the injection, you should immediately inform your doctor about it. The dosage depends on the severity of the symptoms and the clinical picture.

With toxicosis

Toxicosis can be early and late. Cerucal is more often prescribed in the second case. When taking pills, you need to drink them with non-carbonated clean water. The rest of the fluids may reduce the therapeutic effect. The course of admission does not exceed four weeks.

Please note: the drug can activate the formation of prolactin, which is responsible for milk production and uterine contraction. The average dose is up to 10-15 mg. If you need 10 mg to achieve a therapeutic effect, then you can take it once a day. At an increased dosage, it is divided into several doses.

Dropper

It is prescribed if the toxicosis is severe.

The dropper is done only in the hospital. This is due to the fact that incorrect administration and dissolution can lead to the manifestation of negative reactions. When administered intravenously, the effect becomes noticeable after 2-3 minutes.

The procedure is carried out with slow dripping. One ampoule of the product is diluted in 50 ml. infusion fluid. The opened ampoule should not be stored until the next injection of the drug.

If after the first dose the condition has not improved, the doctor may prescribe a second injection. The dropper, like intramuscular injection, is an emergency method.

When breastfeeding

When breastfeeding, Cerucal should be replaced with medicines that do not pass into breast milk. If treatment cannot be avoided, it is better to refuse to breastfeed the baby. Some young mothers drink this medicine to increase lactation.

The instructions say that the spontaneous flow of milk is a side effect that is noted with prolonged use. In this case, unforeseen complications may arise both from the work of the body of the mother and the child.
