Fabric dragon pattern. Dragons - patterns. What should a children's suit consist of?

Colpitis

After the release of the cartoon about brave Vikings who learned to tame dragons, many children and adults had a new idol - the Night Fury dragon Toothless. Many kids dream of such a toy. With a little effort you can make it yourself.

Velor dragon

Toothless looks most natural when sewn from velor or suede - then his sides will evenly shimmer in the sun.

The leather can be used to make the tip of the toy's tail, the teeth on the spine and claws. In general, the toy looks equally good in any design made from any materials - wet suede, leather, yarn. Making a dragon with your own hands is very simple - it is important to decide on the materials and techniques for making it. List of required materials:

  • Velor or black suede
  • Volumetric eyes
  • Black threads
  • Sintepon for stuffing
  • Black and burgundy leather stripes
  • Scissors

First of all, based on the patterns, you should make fabric blanks.

You should start by assembling the head parts into a pile. In order to get the head, you need to cut out and combine parts A-G. First of all, you should sew parts A on side 1. You need to remember that Toothless has beautiful horns. They can be obtained by connecting parts E6 and C6. Similar work should be done with parts D5 and C5. Then you need to align both parts C. All 4 “ears” must be connected near the beginning of the horns with the back part G.

The seam should be located inside. The remaining horns are sewn from parts F7 and B7. The head will be ready if you combine parts C3 and B3, and then BC with A. You also need to stitch along sides B2 and A2. The next step is to create Toothless's torso. To do this, you should cut out parts J and K from the fabric and connect them together. Next, you need to attach part V to the stitched parts. As a result, a line of spikes should appear located in the middle of the back.

Next you need to cut out parts G and L and sew them together in the places marked on the pattern as “ears”. It is very important that there is a hole between the two Q parts (it will be convenient if it is located below the protrusion of the chest). This hole will be needed so that the toy can be turned inside out. Parts R, S and T, which are the scallops and wings, need to be assembled together. You need to embroider them based on the dotted lines on the front side. P should be attached to combination parts QL.

To obtain the torso, you need to combine the parts QPL with JK. The upper part of the wings should be located 5 cm from the apex, on the shoulder of JK. Thus, the triangular scallop S should begin where the wing ends. Similar actions are performed with parts U, S, T, W. You need to make sure that when turning the craft right side out, the scallops will be on the outside.

Important detail - Toothless has suffered damage to his tail, and part of it needs to be made from a different color of fabric. The legs need to be sewn from parts M, N, O. The finished craft should be stuffed with padding polyester and the hole left in area Q should be sewn up. The eyes can be made yourself from fabric, but the toy will look most expressive with voluminous eyes.

Upright Toothless

A toy standing on its hind legs looks quite original. When creating it, the main attention should be paid to the body and hind legs - in general, the structure should be stable. List of required materials and tools:

  • Velor or black velvet
  • Black felt for horns and paws
  • Wire
  • Leather or leatherette
  • White felt for eyes and teeth
  • Fabric glue
  • Fabric paint
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors

This Toothless is easier to perform than one standing on four legs. Thus, his head consists of only four parts - the back of the head, the chin and two identical halves for the face. All parts are carefully sewn together so that the seam is in the middle of the muzzle. A little below the seam line, several teeth should be glued. Gray paint represents Toothless's nostrils. Horns, ears and spines on the spine can be made flat by cutting them out of felt. Toothless's eyes consist of several parts - an eyeball, a black pupil and a highlight. First, all the parts are glued together into a single composition and only then fixed on the dragon’s face. At this stage of work, you should be careful - if you glue the eyes asymmetrically to each other, the dragon will “squint”. The dragon's body consists of four parts - two identical parts of the chest, two identical parts of the back. Everything is sewn together and stuffed with padding polyester. Spikes are sewn along the seam on the back. The tail of the toy should be a solid part of the back; this must be provided for when choosing a pattern. The front and hind legs must be sewn perpendicular to the body, having previously filled them with padding polyester. The claws can be painted on with fabric paint. A dragon with thin movable wings will look good. This is possible if you make them from leather or faux leather, placing them on a wire base. The flexibility of the wire will allow you to arbitrarily change the shape and span of the wings.

Girlfriend for Toothless

In order for the little dragon not to get bored alone, you can sew him a girlfriend. It should be made according to the same pattern as Toothless himself, but with minor differences. So, it is advisable to make it from brighter materials - pink or yellow fabric is quite suitable.

An important feature is that the girlfriend must have a solid tail, so there is no need to add any extensions to it.

There are many more techniques in which the toy can be made. A developed imagination and skillful hands will help you create a unique craft.

Children choose costumes of cartoon characters or animals for the holiday. For them, this is an opportunity to reincarnate and try on a new image. In this article we will look at the dragon costume. This mythical animal is found in fairy tales of all countries and acts as a good and evil hero.

Great choice

The dragon is always portrayed as powerful and brave, evil and good at the same time. His unique abilities to fly and breathe fire always attract little children. But not everyone will decide to try on this image. Bravery and courage are masculine qualities, so a dragon costume for a boy is better suited. This does not mean that girls may not even consider this costume option. On the contrary, such an idea will be very unusual; there are unlikely to be any analogues.

What should a children's suit consist of?

Undoubtedly, each parent has his own vision of the mythical dragon, but there are mandatory details, without which the image of the dragon will not be complete. Here is their list:

  • a cape or cloak with spikes;

You can selectively use this list to create a suitable kit. For example, a dragon costume may consist of the following parts:

    masks and wings;

    caps, wings and tail;

capes or cloaks with a hood.

It is worth paying attention to some details, such as shoes and clothing. The image looks harmonious when using green and red colors. Take the time to choose matching clothes and shoes and get the best dragon costume. The children's party for which the costume is being prepared involves outdoor games, so make sure that the child can move comfortably and comfortably.

Cape

This option is quite convenient and easy to manufacture. If you have an unnecessary one, you can remake it. To do this, just sew soft spikes on the head and along the spine. They can be cut from an ordinary kitchen sponge and glued to double-sided tape. Or you can sew it from fabric, filling it with cotton wool. These soft spikes are a must when creating a look.

If you are ready to sew your own New Year's dragon costume from a cape, then be sure to complement it with a mask. Choose a fabric of a suitable color and cut out a semicircle with scalloped edges. Sew a braid or ribbon around the neck and your dragon costume is ready. The advantage of this option is that the edges of the raincoat do not need to be processed, but are left in their original form.

Overalls

This option is suitable for those who have an old jumpsuit in their wardrobe, and if you can sew it yourself, it will be a big plus. But we will consider the option of a ready-made jumpsuit.

All we need to do is decorate the finished item. Soft spikes, sequins, stripes, in general, anything you can find at hand will be used. Be sure to sew wings and a tail on our dragon, and also choose shoes to match the color. And the dragon costume can be considered ready. The children's party to which the child will wear this costume lasts quite a long time, so think about whether it will be hot in the overalls.

Headdress

You can choose a headdress from several options: a cap and a hat, we will consider each of them.

Before sewing a hat, take measurements of the child’s head so that the product fits. The material that is suitable for this should be dense, but at the same time not hard. You can sew by hand, but if you have a machine, you can use it, it will speed up the process. A good option is felt, as shown in the picture below; the dragon hat is sewn in several steps.

If you don’t want to bother and choose the option with a cap, then all you need is to decorate the headdress. To do this you will need felt, scissors and hot water. Cut out eyes and spikes from the felt and glue these parts using a glue gun. Do not forget that a cap or hat must be complemented with a cape. You can see the decor options in the following picture, or you can come up with something of your own.

Mask

The materials from which you can make a mask are very diverse. You can use cardboard, colored paper, fabric, plastic plates. A dragon carnival costume will be spectacular if you choose fabric as the material for the mask. The mask can be sewn three-dimensional with details or flat.

For the second option, just cut out the base from the fabric, sew on an elastic band and add details. It is better to choose colored cardboard for the mask, this will simplify production. If you use white, you and your child can paint it with a solid layer of paint or paint scales.

If you choose a volumetric option, then be prepared to spend a little more time. It is better to use several shades of the same color, and choose cotton wool to fill the details. Be sure to wash your nose, eyebrows, horns and spines. And then the mask will have a realistic look. Below you can see one of the options for a voluminous mask made of felt and a tail. Which, by the way, can be sewn using the same principle, filled with cotton wool or padding polyester.

So, the dragon costume is made with your own hands, all that remains is to add a few touches to make your child the most beautiful and happy.

For a greater holiday effect, you can decorate the child’s face with paints. Draw scales, menacing eyebrows and outline the mouth. But this option will not work if you choose a mask.

Decorate your child's shoes with soft details. To do this, cut out triangles from felt or cardboard that will act as claws and place them on glue.

Pay attention to your baby's hands; gloves will be needed to complete the dragon costume. You need to stick claws on them like shoes. It is better to use fabric for the claws, it will stick more firmly to the gloves. It is necessary to glue with silicone glue on each finger. And remember to follow the color scheme.

It is possible to make fire as an addition to the costume. After all, as everyone knows, dragons breathe fire. To do this, you can cut out a flame from cardboard and decorate it with paints. And then glue it onto a wooden stick using hot silicone. All a child needs to do is bring the flame to his face, and the effect of a fire-breathing dragon will be created.

A dragon costume for a girl can be made from the same details, just choose more delicate colors. Shades of red and pink are suitable. When sewing a suit, choose natural fabrics. Choose a matching skirt with tights, braid your hair into two buns - and the cute dragon is ready.

FUNNY DRAGON

FUNNY DRAGON

This cute dragon can be made from pink, green or blue fleece, or from wool, although this is a very difficult fabric to cut and sew. Despite the simplicity of the pattern, working with complex fabric will require some skills from a novice craftsman. If you don’t take such fabric, then even people who don’t often hold a needle in their hands can make this toy.

You will need Fleece, wool, knitted fabric or any other fabric of two contrasting colors (light and dark green), felt or drape, thick oilcloth (sealant for wings), black beads or ready-made plastic eyes, padding polyester or other filler, flexible wire, strong sewing threads to match the fabric, thin threads, paper, thin cardboard, a simple pencil, a needle, pins with heads or rings, scissors, chalk or a dry thin piece of soap.

Progress

Enlarge the dragon pattern to the required size, transfer it to life-size paper, cut it out, glue the body parts, aligning the control circles on the pattern, and prepare cardboard patterns (Fig. 52).

Before cutting, you should carefully study all the details of the dragon pattern, then cut out the required number of parts. All parts are paired, with the exception of the continuation of the tail and the middle part of the head; these parts should be cut one at a time. Place the patterns for the dragon toy pattern on the fabric of the desired color, then begin cutting.

The ears and wings are two-color, so you need to cut 2 pieces from fabric of each color.

First sew the head, paws, wings and ears. To do this, attach the side of the head to the middle part, align the notches, pin the parts together with pins and sew first one half, then the other. In the same way, sew the second side part of the head to the middle part. When stitching the parts together correctly, the ends of the middle part of the head should meet at the back of the head. For ease of further processing, seam allowances in rounded areas should be cut. Leave the hole open to turn the workpiece out.

Figure 52. Patterns of the “Jolly Dragon” toy

Now you need to sew the upper limbs, wings and ears. Sew the paws completely, leaving no holes, so as not to disturb the shape. To turn the paws inside out, you need to carefully cut small holes along the grain thread in the upper part of each paw. Make cuts in all corners of the legs in the seam allowances. Sew the wings and ears from fabric of two colors. Turn all sewn parts right out.

Faux fur parts should be cut with the sharp ends of scissors, cutting only the base, but without touching the pile. Otherwise, the fur will be cut in the wrong place.

Sewing the dragon's body should begin by sewing together the parts of the tummy, folding 2 pieces of light fabric facing inward. They need to be sewn along the less convex side, this will be the middle of the dragon's abdomen.

Having sewn and straightened the seams of the abdomen, sew a continuation to it - the tail of the dragon.

Now you need to sew the side parts of the body, sewing the legs to them: sew the side parts of the legs to the body, with the exception of the bottom part, since there will be feet.

Then pin the feet on each side so that their highest point coincides with the junction of the body and the side of the leg, then sew in the feet.

Now you need to sew the belly to the sides of the dragon’s body, starting from the neck, through the leg and to the tip of the tail: first on one side, then on the other. Carefully straighten the seams.

Cut out the jagged parts of the dragon's mane from felt or drape, and place the longer part between the side parts of the tail. Secure the piece with pins, then sew it in, moving from the body to the tip of the tail.

The part of the mane that is shorter is sewn into the back of the dragon. Since the mane is still longer than the back, its tip will stick out. You can use two options: either cut the mane at the neck, or sew this part into the dragon’s head. However, the second option is more labor-intensive.

Trim all seam allowances on the body to a minimum, and make cuts in the corners. Turn the torso right side out.

Before assembling the dragon, tightly stuff the body, head and legs with filler. Pull the ears from the side of the light fabric so that you get a notch. Place the ears into the corners of the hole at the back of the head and sew them in with a hidden seam. After sewing in the ears, the hole can be left unsewn so that part of the mane can be sewn in here later.

First, make small cuts on the back of the head on both sides from the junction of the middle part of the head.

Place the head to the body, attach it with pins, and insert the free end of the mane into the cuts on the head. Secure it with pins.

Now sew the mane to the dragon’s head with a hidden seam from top to bottom. After the mane, sew the head to the body with hidden stitches in a circle.

Sew the legs with a hidden seam to the body so that the holes through which the parts were turned out were facing the body of the dragon.

When completing the design of the dragon, you can make a constriction on its tail and tummy with a seam using a needle, grabbing the stuffing a little.

Figure 53. Soft toy “Fun little dragon”

Cut out small circles from light fleece or felt - nostrils, and sew them to the dragon's head with a loop stitch. Attach ready-made eyes or sew on beady eyes. To strengthen the wings, cut out parts from thick, hard oilcloth, or use an office folder.

Roll the parts into a tube, place them in each wing, then straighten them inside.

Sew each wing around the perimeter using a sewing machine, marking the membranes. Sew the dragon wings to the back using a blind stitch. The cute and somewhat pot-bellied dragon is ready (Fig. 53).

December 11

According to the eastern calendar, the symbol of the coming year will be a dragon! The creature is mythical, and rather fictitious, but very wise, strong and mysterious. (And what about the fact that dragons breathe fire)!

And yet I wanted to sew this symbol. Just not an evil and ferocious dragon, but a good one, more like a cartoon dragon. Of course, a suitable pattern was needed! After a fair amount of browsing on the Internet, I found a lot of patterns for dragons and baby dragons. I chose this one: dragon pattern (,). It consists of two parts (the signatures are too small and not in Russian, and, unfortunately, I cannot indicate the author, I don’t know him, but I took the pattern from the website detpodelki.ru).

To be honest, I have seen many times on the Internet photographs of dragons sewn using this pattern, but I have never seen a description or at least good recommendations for sewing. And I decided to fix this matter. And I also tried this pattern. I won’t say that it’s very successful, but it’s still not bad. This is what I ended up with:

And this is the original. It certainly looks more representative:

And now a description of the work for everyone who would like, but perhaps was afraid to take on the task of sewing such a cunning “beast”.

Necessary materials: fleece or other fabric of two contrasting colors, felt or drape for the mane, filler, thread, seal for the wings (for example, thick oilcloth). For information, 2012 is the year of the Black Dragon.

And yet, a sewing machine is completely optional. I sewed this toy by hand using a back stitch.

Stage 1. Printing the pattern and preparing it. We print the patterns on A4 sheets (each pattern should occupy the entire sheet!), cut them out, glue the body parts, aligning the circles, see pattern).

Stage 2. Cut the fabric. All parts are paired, except for the continuation of the tail and the middle part of the head (we cut one part at a time). The ears and wings will be two-color, so we cut 2 parts from each color.

Stage 3. Sew the head, upper limbs, wings and ears.

In order to properly sew the head, you need to attach the side of the head to the middle part, aligning the notches, and sew. First one half:

Then another:

Also sew the second side part of the head to the middle one. At the back of the head, the ends of the middle part of the head should close. Under no circumstances should we sew up the hole (we will turn it inside out):

Sew the upper limbs, wings and ears:

We sew the legs together completely, leaving no holes. Then carefully cut holes in the upper part of each leg (for turning), like this:

We make cuts in the allowances in all corners. We turn out all the sewn parts:

Stage 4. Sewing the body.

First you need to sew 2 parts of the belly. Sew along the less convex side. This will be the middle of the dragon's abdomen:

We straighten the belly and sew a continuation to it - the tail:

Now let's take care of the side parts of the body and sew the legs to them.

First, we sew the side parts of the legs to the body, like this (we don’t sew them from the bottom - the feet will be there):

Then we sew in the feet on each side (the highest point of the foot should coincide with the junction of the body and the side of the leg):

Now you need to sew the belly to the side parts of the dragon’s body (from the neck, through the leg and to the tip of the tail). On the one side:

And also on the other:

When expanded it will look like this:

We cut out the details of the dragon's mane from felt or drape. We put the longer part between the side parts of the tail:

Sew in (from the body to the tip of the tail):

We sew the shorter piece into the back of the dragon. But the mane will still be longer than the back and its tip will most likely stick out.

The groove can be cut off at the neck or this part can be sewn into the dragon’s head, as I did (but this is a more labor-intensive option).

We trim all the allowances on the body to a minimum, make slits in the corners:

Turning the body inside out:

Stage 5. Assembly.

We stuff the body, head, paws tightly:

We tighten the ears like this:

We put holes in the corners on the back of the head and sew them in with a hidden seam:

The hole can be sewn up, or you can leave it for now.

Front view (does this pattern make the head look like a hippo?):

Now let’s sew this part of the mane into the head:

On the back of the head you need to make small cuts on both sides from the junction of the middle part:

We attach the head to the body, inserting the unsewn mane into the cuts on the head. Secure with pins:

And we sew the mane with a hidden seam to the head from top to bottom:

Then we sew the head to the body in a circle:

We sew the legs with a hidden seam to the body the way you like. You can come up with some interesting pose for the dragon:

Stage 6. Design of the dragon.

You can make constrictions on the tail and belly:

From light fleece (felt) we cut out small circles - nostrils and sew them to the head with a blanket stitch:

Sew on beady eyes:

We strengthen the wings with something. I cut out the details of the wings from thick oilcloth (from an office folder) and placed them in each wing, rolling them into a tube, and then straightening them inside:

We stitch around the perimeter of each wing, marking the membranes. Here it is better, of course, to use a sewing machine:

Sew the wings to the back:

The result is a little dragon (my little dragon’s height is 18 cm, length with tail is about 35 cm):

Quite cute and cute, and oh-oh-very pot-bellied:

By the way, you can put something in his paws. For example, a postcard, a heart with recognition or your small gift.

...or just a welcome message. 🙂

One of my friends gave her boyfriend a tie for the New Year 2000 (also a Dragon!), tying it on a toy dragon.

In general, there are many options. But in any case, let the dragon sewn by your hands bring only joy and happiness!

P.S. And one more important point. The pattern does not indicate the direction of the lobe. I positioned the lobe (like all toys in this case) - in height. I think this is the main reason for the excessive “potbelliness” of the resulting dragon. If you want a pot-bellied dragon, sew like me. If you need a slimmer and taller dragon (as, by the way, as stated in the original), when cutting, place a fractional thread of the fabric along the tail (i.e. along the length of the toy).

Well, here is the promised tutorial on making a dragon costume with your own hands.

As I already said, I have no sewing experience, so the first thing I did was go online to look for how to do it. I found a wonderful workshop on sewing a suit... but nothing worked out for me. So I had to rip out my old pants. The sleeve also turned out not like in MK, but like a puff, but that’s even for the better. I cut patterns from unnecessary fabric, sewed them, ripped them, cut them and sewed them again... in general, I didn’t take photos of my torment with the overalls. I think those who know how to sew can handle this without difficulty.

Then it was decided to make sinewy wings (what is a dragon without wings?)

To do this, I drew a sketch of the future wing. I screwed screws into the unnecessary board. Using this blank I made a wire frame. I’ll say right away that I take the wire from a 2-3 core wire (it’s not expensive on the market) - you just need to clean off the insulation. The wire is thick enough, holds its shape, but at the same time is quite flexible: just right!!!

Now you need to solder the wires. Your beloved spouse can be very helpful in this matter;)

We get a wing frame with veins. We carry out the operation in the second wing. Don't forget to leave room in the middle for fastening.

Now you need to wrap the attachment point with padding polyester so that the baby’s back does not press and nothing gets scratched. I wrapped it in padding polyester and secured it with thread.

Now we need to think about how to cover our wings. because the costume was made for a child - the wings are not large. I opted for nylon tights. If the wings are large, then you need to take any elastic fabric or mesh.

The view, frankly speaking, is not very good... ;)

Let's get to paint. I have regular acrylic "Ladoga". I painted it with a foam sponge. For convenience, I took 3 pieces so as not to rinse them, but to work with three colors at the same time (yellow, orange and red). I didn’t wet the sponges or thin the paint.

It's already become much cuter, hasn't it?

Now we sew on the elastic bands (be sure to try them on the child so as not to put pressure). It's better to take a thicker rubber band. And we wrap it with any tape, purely for aesthetics :)

Now, to decorate the wings, I decided to add a little glitter by drawing circles. At the same time, I hemmed the edges of the nylon, which did not fit the frame. Isn't it beautiful? no problem, we'll cover it :)

Initially I planned to trim them around the edge with small tinsel. But none were found in the surrounding area, so we bought 10 meters of sequins, although we initially planned to take 2-4 meters. We've used up almost everything. Therefore, it is better to take it with a reserve. I glued it with hot glue from a gun. Holds up great. Don't forget to wrap the base of the wings (those parts that will be visible).

When the wings are ready, let's work on the eyes. Sew-turn-stuff-paint. Everything seems clear here.

I made the eyelashes from thin wire. The tip was dipped in glue and stuck into the seam connecting the front and back parts. But experience has shown that it is better to take fishing line or not do them at all. They are practically invisible, and from the constant movement of the child (he does not sit still), they wrinkle and the result is crooked eyelashes :)

Now let's start painting the head. Prime with acrylic primer. The head itself was made of foam rubber, then covered with PVA toilet paper on top. The folds turned out because... in the end I took large pieces of paper, and it wrinkled from the abundance of moisture. At first I wanted to sand them with sandpaper, but I didn’t. And this even worked to my advantage.

Actually, I photographed the process somewhere, but now I can’t find it. If I find it, I'll add it.

When the soil has dried, cover the entire head with yellow paint (the same sponge you used to paint the wings)

Then we go through orange, lightly, barely touching, and finally red. This is where our folds appear (since the convex parts are painted). The result was such a fiery texture, I really liked the effect.

We sew together the abdomen. For beginners like me, pay attention: the fabric is placed face to face, and padding polyester is placed between them. The first time I folded it wrong, I had to flog it :(

The yellow tummy just seemed boring to me, so I painted it using the same 3 colors.

We attach Velcro to the belly. I have those that are glued, but it’s better to sew them on, it will be more reliable.

I made triangles for the ridge of different sizes. It was a long and tedious process of stitching, turning, stuffing, and sewing up the hole.

Then painting. all the same colors

Then she laid them out on the floor, starting with the smallest (those on the tail) to the largest (those on the head)

It was possible to sew it on, but I glued it with hot glue from a gun. It holds very tightly and glues much faster than sewing :)

Then we glue the sequins that we had left over from the wings along the edge.

I forgot to write that in the overalls we make a slit on the back (for the wings) - I couldn’t think of another way to attach them :(. We pin the slit with a pin, and on top it is covered with a triangle with Velcro - you can see in the 2nd photo

I thought for a long time about how to connect the head with the hood. I tried different options. I was already desperate to come up with something. I decided to do it on a whim. Therefore, there are no photos of the process and I don’t even know how to describe it.

What you see in the photo was from the beginning.

Then I tore off the fabric and made a new hood based on it, taking into account how it fits on the head. I stitched the fabric, and then, having put the foam rubber head on the child (there, inside, in the foam rubber, I cut out a hole for the head with a knife), I glued the fabric to the dragon’s head. I glued gold tinsel behind the ears and eyes, imitating a forelock. It turned out elegant for New Year's.

OK it's all over Now. It took 2 days to make the costume. The child's happiness knew no bounds - he did not take it off. Isn't this the main indicator that the work was not done in vain? ;)

A few more details.
