We collect a “chain” of cones, about 12 cones, and fasten it into a circle with wire. For the basket you need to make 3 rings from cones. Secure the rings together with wire.

For the bottom of the basket: take one cone and around it we make a circle of cones, about 7-8 pieces, and insert them into a structure of 3 rings of cones, securing everything with wire.

All that remains is to build a handle for the basket and attach it to the base. We fasten the cones in the same way as for the basket itself, only we do not fasten the sides together, but leave a few centimeters of wire on each side to attach the handle to the upper ring of the basket. In addition, you can fasten the cones together with glue for strength. We attach the handle to the base and our basket is ready.

For our basket, we purchased small fly agaric mushrooms and decorated our autumn craft with them. If desired, the basket can be decorated with any decorative materials, varnished or painted.

The time to make the craft is approximately 5-6 hours; more time is spent on selecting pine cones according to size than on making the basket itself.

If you happen to have pine cones lying around idle at home, freshly picked in the autumn forest, then you have an excellent opportunity to turn them into unique handmade items. So, for work we will need:

1. Pine cones;
2. Acrylic paints, brush;
3. Ball shape;
4. Glue - gun;
5. Green sisal;
6. Varnish;
7. Foil.

In order to make a basket of cones, we will prepare a shape in the form of a ball; in our work we used a ready-made foam ball; you can also use a small ball. We wrap the mold halfway with foil, as in the photo.

We take out the ball and get a foil figure in the form of a hemisphere.

Now the resulting hemisphere - the basis of the future basket - needs to be covered with pine cones. For this stage of work, it is important to select cones of the same size and shape. We glue the cones using a glue gun over the entire surface of the mold. Pine cones must be placed tightly one to one.

For the convenience of gluing the cones, it is not necessary to remove the ball - the base is made of foil; in the process of work it creates additional strength.

This is the basket of cones we got.

When gluing the cones, there may be free spaces between them, this is not a problem, we will decorate the resulting gaps with green sisal. The basket, made entirely from natural materials, is ready.

Now let's liven it up with bright autumn colors. We will also make flowers from cones. To do this, cover the underside of the cone with one or two layers of acrylic paint.

When the paint has dried, use a brush to carefully paint the centers of the resulting flowers.


If you have matte acrylic paints, then the finished pine cone flowers can be varnished. To do this, you can use a varnish spray,

or take regular colorless nail polish; of course, it will work much longer, but the result, both in the first and second cases, will be the same - the flowers will acquire an elegant varnish shine.

After the varnish has dried, place the finished flowers in a basket, hiding the empty spaces between them with sisal.

The number of cones that will go into making one basket depends mainly on its size. On average, this ranges from 50 pcs. for a small basket up to 200 - 300 pcs. and more for large ones. Most often, already opened cones are used, but the combination of open cones with closed ones also looks interesting. In this case, it is necessary to take into account that closed cones open over time under the influence of heat, which can cause the shelf to lose its shape or even crumble. Therefore, such elements are coated with liquid wood glue, which prevents the scales from opening and even adds shine.

The next version of the basket is interesting in its own way and more practical than the previous one. The shape of the basket can be square or rectangular. To work, you will need a wooden box or drawer, a vine about 2 m, hot glue and a large number of cones (according to the size of the basket). Review the detailed instructions for making it.

First, the prepared box must be fastened with a wicker handle. This can be done in any convenient way: using nails, metal staples, wire, the main thing here is strength and reliability of fastening.

After this, you can begin to paste over the walls of the future basket with pine cones. It is advisable to alternate cones of different sizes and shapes; the cones can be fully open and closed, darker or lighter shades. There is no need to glue the bottom of the basket, since they will not stick there firmly. The basket needs to be dried well and then can be used at your discretion.
