Leather jacket repair

A new problem. The entrance to the pocket of the leather jacket was torn.

You shouldn't grieve. There is always a way out of any situation. You can throw the thing away, or you can try to repair it. You never know what you can do till you try.
We do not want to change the design of the jacket, so we choose a restoration close to the original.
1. Vyparivaem belt
2. Undermine the side seams. If possible, I do not cut the entire product so that there is less work.
3. In this case, cut out pieces of damaged skin on one side and symmetrically on the other.

By chance, a piece of skin of the right color turned out to be at hand. We cut out blanks from it according to the size of the cut out flaps, not forgetting to add a 2 cm seam allowance and outline the entry points into the pocket.
With the help of pins, we transfer the marks to the wrong side.

We will prepare 2 doleviks from adhesive non-woven fabric 4 cm wide, length: pocket entrance plus 4 cm

and glue it with a not very hot iron without steam through a paper towel. Be sure to check the temperature on an unnecessary piece of skin.

On the front side, draw the frame of the entrance to the pocket

Burlap pockets with surviving facings will be ironed, if necessary, we will restore, sew holes

Put the burlap on the drawn frame and sew to one side , leaving long tails of thread. We bring the threads to the wrong side and tie knots. Do not cut. Tails will come in handy later.

On the wrong side, we outline the frame, if this has not been done before, and cut out the entrance to the pocket. We cut in the middle from the center to the ends without reaching 1 cm to the edge. We cut to the corners at 45 degrees.

To fix the allowances, glue the transfer tape around the perimeter. If there is none, you can smear it with shoe glue and nail it with a hammer

Jeans lovers will be happy to take note of this material. If only because there is information here on how not to throw away jeans when there is a hole in them. You can freshen up jeans with holes in the most inconvenient places. Then a few examples and descriptions for them on how to restore your favorite thing with your own hands.

How to sew up a hole in the pocket of your favorite jeans?

It is worth sewing up holes with a special and even creative approach. These can be linings, some bright applications or exclusive embroidery and much more.

And most importantly, in each work there is a special approach. It all depends on the size of the abrasion or hole and its location.

If the hole is under the pocket

Very often there are such holes under the pockets or near the pockets. But how to do the work professionally and, most importantly, discreetly? There is a little secret that is being revealed right now.

Materials and tools

To work, you will need a special tool that will help rip the seams. Then a piece of denim to match the jeans themselves and specifically the place with a hole. As well as threads that match the color. Gossamer to connect the inner lining.

If it is not possible to use denim for the inner lining or it will interfere, you can use a simple thin and very dense fabric. For example, calico or chintz.

Stages of work

patterns

First you need to inspect the place with a hole. You will need to open the pocket to the corner where the hole is. Then attach the fabric for the lining, and mark the area for repair on it. It is always necessary to take with a small margin, approximately 1-1.5 cm from the edge.

Lining installation

The lining will help to fix a small adhesive cobweb.

Line

Everything was fixed, and the work was turned out on the front side. All seams must be done from the front.

Important! Use the thread exactly to match the fabric of the jeans.

Another important point in this skill is that the stitches are best done the same length, as on the canvas itself. Therefore, in advance, on a small passage, practice on a sewing machine, and calculate the necessary seam for work. Often, new-style machines have a number of lines that simply differ in stitch length.

Lay the same lines in the direction of the equity threads. Then you can return the pocket to its place, and sew it in the places of steaming.

Hole in pocket

Many pockets of even purchased jeans are decorated with different elements. So why not use such a wonderful moment when sewing your favorite pants? You can show your imagination in the repair. Then there are a couple of examples of how you can do it yourself.

Here, hand stitches are used in the direction of the shared threads.

Types of hole decor on jeans

Among all the techniques, the decor with a bright print lining is considered the most popular. Looks very nice.

It's pretty easy to do this job. Initially, cut out the required dimensions on a bright fabric so that there is a small allowance of about 2 cm from each edge. Sew neatly from the wrong side or just glue. Further, on the front side, you can carefully or with special design stitches secure the part.

Embroidery

Embroidery is no less popular. In fact, many fashionistas find it very fashionable to have something embroidered.

Why not do it on your jeans?

It turns out not only to hide old scuffs and holes, but also to make them brighter.

Application

An original appliqué can make plain, old and worn jeans the most striking item in your wardrobe.

Use more rhinestones and velvet fabric to the best of your ability, and you can get such a mysterious butterfly.

thermal stickers

The simplest and no less attractive is a thermal sticker.

Pockets are simply an essential element of modern clothing. Jeans, trousers, jackets, jackets, sweaters, shorts and even dresses - all of them can have, and in most cases have, pockets. It is very unpleasant when you take off or put on clothes and find a torn pocket.

How to sew up holes in different pockets

Pockets are of different types, depending on this, the technologies for their repair are different.

Sew up welt pocket

The slit pocket is like the front pocket of jeans. If it is torn from the inside, turn the garment inside out. You will see burlap - part of the pocket, invisible to the eye, usually from a different fabric. Iron it, stitch it on a typewriter in the place of the gap or lay a neat hand-stitch “back needle”. Focus on the traces of the factory seam.

If a product with welt pockets is lined and it is impossible to turn it inside out to get to the burlap, then simply pull the pocket out. Usually holes in such pockets are formed because the seam has parted. At the point of the break, remove excess threads, fold both parts of the pocket inward, sew up the hole with small tight stitches, picking up several threads of fabric from one side or the other. Secure the seam with a double knot, hide the end of the thread inside. Now fill your pocket.

If the material of the welt pocket is leaky, you can apply a neat patch from the inside. Another option is to replace the fabric. To do this, the old pocket is torn off, the details are smoothed and applied to a new piece of fabric as a pattern. Then they are circled, cut out, stitched together along the contour, inserted into the slot for the pocket so that all the seams are inside the product. Small hidden stitches sew a pocket to the product.

Making a patch pocket

If you need to sew on a detached patch pocket (for example, the back pocket of jeans), the product is also ironed in the place of the intended seam. Then, threads are selected that are as close as possible in color and thickness to the original ones. Strictly along the line of the old seam, these threads are used to lay a machine stitch or sew with a “back needle” seam, imitating a machine seam. The threads are fixed with knots on the wrong side of the product.

Probably, many are familiar with the situation when, due to the constant carrying of keys in the pockets of the jacket, their linings very quickly become unusable - the fabric spreads, the seams are torn, and all the contents of the pocket fall into the lining of the product.

Sewing up the lining at the seam rupture or moving the seam slightly away from the spread of the fabric solves this problem only for a short time, after which the pocket becomes unusable again. The best solution in this case may be to replace the worn pocket lining with parts made of new dense fabric.

How to repair pockets or change the lining of pockets in a men's jacket with your own hands

Before proceeding with the repair, it is necessary to turn the jacket on the wrong side. The easiest way to do this is to open a small section of the bottom seam in the lining of one of the sleeves.

Quite often, finished products already have such a hole, sewn on a typewriter along the front side of the lining. It is technological and served precisely for turning things on the front side. You just need to find it. If there is none, you need to rip the seam of the sleeve yourself.

Through the hole, it is necessary to turn out the section of the jacket with the pocket processed on it and carefully study the technology of its processing. If the latter allows you to easily replace the pads, they should be marked with chalk (indicate the top and bottom), as they may vary in size. This simple operation will simplify the process of assembling the pocket with new linings.

Then you need to carefully flog the worn lining of the pocket.

They should be carefully ironed, because they will have to cut new pocket details.

In general, for the manufacture of pocket linings, there is a special fabric, the so-called "pocket". In fact, this is just a high-quality black calico. If not, you can use a piece of any other suitable fabric. The main thing is that it be dense and have low shedding and thread separation. As for the color of the linings, it is not necessary to choose a color similar to the color of the jacket, since this part of the pocket, firstly, is practically invisible, and, secondly, made in an interesting color, it can even become the “highlight” of the updated products.

Lining fabric should be carefully ironed. Then it is necessary to impose on it the details of the plucked lining. With tailor's chalk or soap, you need to outline them along the contours. All seam allowances will be taken into account. Then it remains only to cut out new linings along the marked lines, signing whether they are upper or lower.

After that, new linings should be sewn to the corresponding parts of the pockets.

Then you need to grind the lining of the pockets together. This operation must be performed with a small double stitch. Stitched in this way, the pockets last much longer and are not afraid of any loads.

The restored pocket must be turned out to its original position. Similarly, the second pocket should be repaired, after which it remains only to stitch the hole in the sleeve.

  • Sew up (darn) the gap.
  • Glue.
  • Disguise with tape or reflective tape.
  • Apply a payment.
  • Use thermal stickers and applications.

Of course, the choice of repair method depends not only on the material, but also on the location of the hole. Next, we will introduce you to various methods for repairing outerwear, depending on the type of damage, and tell you how to seal a bolognese jacket at home. And in order for the thing to become like new at all, there are a few more secrets. For example, you can.

How to close a hole in a jacket along the seam?

The easiest repair method is used if the jacket is torn at the seam. In this case, you do not need to invent anything, since such a hole can be sewn up with threads. Moreover, such a gap can be eliminated even without a sewing machine.

The repair process looks quite simple:

  1. Choose threads that match the color.
  2. Turn the product inside out and lay it on the table.
  3. If there is a lining, then spread it out so that it is more convenient to work with the damaged area.
  4. Thread the needle and carefully sew up the hole. Try to sew so that the new line becomes a continuation of the old one, and the seam differs as little as possible from the factory one.
  5. Sew up the lining and turn the product inside out.

If you don't want to open the lining, then sew the jacket with a blind seam. For this:

  1. Insert the needle from the wrong side of the fabric (so that the knot on the thread is not visible) and sew the hole from the front side with parallel stitches.
  2. The spacing between stitches must be the same.
  3. After the hole is completely sewn up, fasten the thread and carefully hide it inside.

Important! Braid or reflective tape will help to disguise a torn seam on a jacket. Tape can be sewn in different ways. In the process of decorating, fantasy will help you. Similarly, you can manually sew up a hole under the arm with an invisible seam. Don't be afraid to experiment with color and length:

  • A well-chosen braid can not only mask a torn seam, but also make the jacket stylish and original.
  • A reflective tape sewn into the place of a defect or across the entire width (length) of the jacket will not only look spectacular, but will also make the product more visible at night.

Or maybe the tear that has appeared is just an excuse to give things a new life? We offer you some interesting and fashionable ideas:

How to “hide” a hole under a zipper?

If the cut on the trigger is in a place where a zipper is quite appropriate, then use the following trick: insert the zipper into the damaged area.

Important! For symmetry, you can insert a zipper on the other side. This option will not only save the thing, but also give it a kind of originality.

To make a torn jacket look like new, use decorative buttons or rivets instead of a zipper. To do this, cover the slit with a spare piece of fabric (usually sold with the jacket) and punch it with buttons. The result is a decorative element.

If you have more than one demi-season outerwear in your wardrobe, but also high-quality, but not quite fashionable leather jackets, we will tell you.

Bologna jacket repair

The densified artificial fabric - bologna, is made of polymer threads treated with a water-repellent and airtight composition. Bologna jackets perfectly protect from rain and damp fog, so they are perfect for picnics and hiking.

Important! The rubberized material was invented by the Italian engineer Giulio Natta, and the fabric got its name thanks to the Italian city of Bologna, where the inventor lived.

Clothing from Bologna has long gained popularity among many nations, as it is indispensable in the wet and cold season. Unfortunately, the rubberized fabric is not as high tear-resistant as we would like, which is why the owners of such clothes often have to decide how to put a patch on the outside of the bologna trigger, because the material is not so easy to sew up. And there can be plenty of reasons for damage to clothing:

  • Burned by a cigarette or hot object.
  • Cut (blade or sharp object).
  • Leads from a sharp object, such as a nail.

Work materials

In order to repair a polyester jacket with your own hands, you may need the following materials:

  • Glue "Super Moment" or KP-1.
  • Acetone or gasoline for degreasing.
  • A piece of fabric on a patch that matches the color.
  • Polyethylene or interlining.
  • Application.
  • Iron.
  • Gauze or soft natural fabric.

A light and comfortable bologna jacket can be sealed in several ways using the materials listed above. Let's consider in detail each method of solving the problem.

Method number 1. Repair with a fabric patch

In order to seal the hole, prepare a piece of fabric and glue that is suitable in size, texture and color.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Turn the product inside out and lay it on a flat surface.
  2. Degrease the gap from the wrong side with acetone or gasoline.
  3. Apply glue “Supermoment” (KP-1) with a thin layer on the patching fabric.
  4. Connect neatly and evenly the edges of the gap.
  5. Apply a payment.
  6. Place the repair site under the press for a few minutes (according to the instructions of the adhesive used).
  7. Turn the jacket inside out and evaluate the result of the work. If tear marks are visible on the front side, then mask them with an embroidered appliqué, which is sold in sewing and needlework stores.

Important! If a sports jacket is torn, then the place of the gap can be sealed with thematic inscriptions or pictures. You can also put an inner seam and thus sew a torn place on the jacket.

Method number 2. We use polyethylene or interlining

To seal a polyester jacket, prepare: a special dry glue tape (non-woven fabric), a piece of fabric that matches the color, an iron and gauze.

Important! Instead of interlining, you can use ordinary cellophane.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Turn the product inside out and place it on the table.
  2. Unzip the lining to get to the cut.
  3. Cut a piece of polyethylene or non-woven fabric to a size slightly smaller than the patch.
  4. Carefully connect the edges of the gap.
  5. Attach polyethylene (non-woven) from the inside and carefully level it.
  6. Place a fabric patch on top of the interlining (cellophane).
  7. Iron the joint with an iron using gauze or a soft cloth. The polyethylene will melt and securely fix the patch.
  8. Turn the product inside out and admire the result.

Of course, a line may be visible on the break line, but this is not a problem, because only you will know about it, and the line will not be visible to those around you.

Burnt hole repair

Regardless of the cause of the burn, the hole must be eliminated. The problem can be solved in several ways, depending on the size and style of the product, as well as the size of the hole. Here are a few options for solving the problem:

  • If there are various rivets, embroideries or patterns on the clothes, then sew on the problem area additional accessories that match the style of clothing.
  • If a whole hole has appeared on the surface of the product, then mask it with patches on both sides (front and back) and a patch that matches in color, shape and style. First, glue one piece of fabric on the wrong side, and cut the second piece of fabric a little more than a hole. Glue the patch on the front side. Disguise the patch with a patch or appliqué. For symmetry, you can make a patch in another place of clothing.
  • As you can see, there are many ways to “give a second life” to your favorite jacket. Use the option you like, and wear an indispensable thing for a long time and with pleasure. Good luck!
