A bit of history

The buff was invented by an avid Spanish biker Juan Rojas, who was also the owner of a textile business. It all started in 1991 when Rojas was touring the northern part of Spain. To protect himself from a strong wind, he wrapped his neck with a scarf, but he rubbed and looked very ugly. The future owner of Buff® began working on sketches, making them in a small family textile factory. Eventually, he learned how to make seamless microfiber products. At first, he gave them to friends, distributed them to ski instructors and sports shops. In 1992, the first collection of original headwear was released - buff, which got its name from the word bufanda (scarf, translated from Spanish). Since 1995, the buff has been sold abroad.

It is noteworthy that absolutely all Buff® products are produced in one place - the small Spanish town of Iguloada, 60 km from Barcelona. This allows you to control the entire production process - from receiving threads and fabrics to packaging and sending goods to distributors.

Materials used

Well, we have roughly figured out what a buff is and why it is done. Now let's see how to wear it. How to sew a fleece buff with your own hands

When all the necessary materials are selected, you can get to work. But before that, carefully study the sequence of actions in order to understand what exactly needs to be done - this way you will reduce the risk of making a mistake several times, because you will delve into the principle of tailoring this product.

Now you can cut out two rectangular pieces measuring 30x50cm from the fabric. You can change these indicators to those that are more suitable, but in the end there will not be much difference.

Now sew the pieces together along the top edge. Turn the product inside out and attach the parts along the side cut in a circle. Thus, you will fold the top seams. Connect them with pins.

Sew both parts along the side so that there is a small opening with which you can turn the buff back on the front side. Sew it on with regular stitching.

This is the end of the job! It remains only to decide how exactly you will use the buff and wear it on your face or neck. At this stage, you can add a little decor, for example. the stickers mentioned above.

But you can also initially choose a fabric that is interesting in design in order to make your thing original and unique. Thus, you will always be protected during sports activities in the cold season.

I don’t know how it is for anyone, but my neck freezes in cold weather. Scarves, a sweater and a down jacket with a high collar help, but not always. Last winter, I tried wearing a buff-folded fleece balaclava around my neck, and I suddenly liked it. Even at minus 36, I was warm.
I have already bought a separate warm buff for this season and so far I am satisfied.

Here is how it was.
Back in the spring, I became interested in buying a modern fleece hat. I looked mainly at the products of companies producing hats in military design. Found on eBay an interesting store with ammunition for the Israeli army. They sold a nice hat for $14. I thought it was a little expensive and bought a similar hat in Splav. Then, closer to autumn, I came across a warm buff in this store, at the same inhumane price.
And something (a toad) made me search for one of the options for the name - neck warmer.
And then such a bunch of proposals from our Chinese friends fell out. Moreover, prices started from just 70 cents for a single-color buff. For the sake of decency, I wound up the price rating to offers from other countries. For buffs very similar to Chinese ones, but already from England, they wanted about 10 dollars. And the first price offer for non-Chinese quality was a familiar buff from Israel.
And then buffs with patterns caught my eye. Looks interesting, I thought. I went through all the proposed designs in my lot and settled on the default buff. Elegant, but still, a masculine version.
The seller turned out to be just a magician and a wizard. A few seconds after the payment message, a letter fell to the mail that the order had already been sent. Since there was no track number, I can’t say when my package actually got to the post office.
I received the parcel in a month. The buff was packed in a bag that is universal for this type of clothing, on which pictograms were drawn with many ways to use.
Our buff did not exude an unpleasant odor. Its dimensions were as follows - length 29 cm, width 24 cm.


The buff is two-layer, patterned jersey outside, fleece inside. The quality of the pattern on the jersey did not bring any surprises: the colors correspond to the picture from the seller, the pattern is clear.




Not to say that the quality of tailoring is perfect, for example, there is a seam at the back and the pattern on it does not converge.


It has a simple cord drawstring. It also looks very budget friendly.


Nothing interesting on the inside, just a fleece tube and a Made in China label.


Now let's experiment a little. The buff can be worn like a regular single collar, can be folded in half. Can be pulled over the nose like a mask. But on the seller's page there is a photo where it is proposed to use it as a hat.
If you tighten the string, it will look like this. Not bad, but there remains a hole at the top, since the latch on the cord is rather weak.


Let's try to fix the hole from the inside.


Here is such a hat turned out, with a "bulb" on the back of the head. In the city, it’s ugly to walk like that, but in an unforeseen situation, it’s quite an option.


And a couple of photos "on myself" with tests.
We pull the buff around the neck. I would like it to fall lower from the neck, but it does not work. For these occasions in the Alloy "nautical scarf" is sold.


Now we put on a down jacket and go for parcels to the post office. It's minus 20 outside.


Now only in the photo I noticed that the gap between the down jacket and the buff remained. In general, the entire throat to the very chin is closed. In real frost, if you fasten the collar of a down jacket and fold the buff 2 times, there will be no chance of freezing at the neck.
On this day, the buff on the neck was slightly blown by the wind. I had to sit in line at the post office, it was not too hot in the room for me. Fleece is pleasant to the body, does not roll up quickly. In short, I was warm, dry and comfortable.
Should you buy such a product or not, decide for yourself. Many people go bare-necked in any frost. But I liked my purchase.
