Guipure patch on jeans. How to make patches for jeans with your own hands without a sewing machine - how to repair and fix it yourself. How to make a knee patch

Survey

Everyone likes to walk around in clean and tidy clothes, but not everyone likes to look after them. But proper care helps to extend the life of things, and therefore reduce the cost of acquiring new things. The rules are usual: washing things no more often than they require, and timely repairs.

Why throw away a good thing that can last more than one season? Most often, defects that appear on clothes can be eliminated on their own. Today, few people remember that clothes can be mended or patched. But today patches are in trend.

Consider possible options with patches that allow you to tidy up your jeans. These methods will be available even to a beginner needlewoman.

Jeans tend to fray or tear in a variety of places, which means that the technology of work will change. If you sew a patch on your knee, then it will be noticeable even in the case of the most accurate execution, but patches on jeans between the legs can be put so that no one notices.

For maximum quality work, the patch is best sewn with a sewing machine. It allows you to accurately and without problems stitch holes at the seams of the product, which is very convenient. With the same accuracy, you can put a patch on jeans by hand. It can be made a little noticeable, or you can do the work so that it is clearly evident.

Kinds

First of all, you need to understand how to make a patch on jeans, what patches are, what are the differences and advantages of each of them. Let's start in order.

 • Double-sided - used to restore jeans, sleeves, scuffs on the knees and elbows. Consists of two parts of the same shape, but different sizes. At the first stage, it is necessary to sew an element with smaller dimensions on the wrong side of the problem area. At the second stage, a detail is applied from the front side bigger size. The seam can be blind manually, as if it is done on a sewing machine, it will catch the eye.
 • Set-in - a more decorative option, can be of any shape. With the use of such patches, you can decorate not only places on the sleeves or knees, but also patch front part products. With the help of such elements, some creatives restore the zone between the legs on jeans. And if you add more similar applications to the legs, you can get an interesting option.
 • Invoice - not a very reliable type of work, but the simplest. With properly done work, such an element will be almost invisible, but in terms of service life it will not be able to please for a long time. The work consists in sewing a suitable flap from the front side to the surface of the product with a blind seam.

Patches

Most often, there is no desire to part with your favorite jeans, even when scuffs or holes begin to appear on them. But with the help of patches, you can extend the life of your favorite thing.

And how to patch holes in those places where they are especially inappropriate? Most often, the first scuffs and holes on jeans appear between the legs. A neatly made patch on jeans will make it possible to extend their service life. We offer one of the ways of such repair.

How to patch jeans between your legs by hand

What should be the patch for jeans between the legs? If there are no separate fabric samples that match the color of the jeans, you can choose a patch that matches the color or texture and do the following:

 • First of all, protruding threads must be cut off from the edges of the hole.
 • Then process its edges manually around the entire perimeter with frequent stitches. This will prevent the fabric from fraying.
 • Now you need to decide on the size of the patch so that it can completely hide the hole.
 • Secure the patch using safety pins. When performing work, you need to ensure that there are no creases, waves.
 • With a needle, grab a patch with a few stitches from several sides to secure it.
 • Stepping back from the edge about 3 mm, sew the patch with small stitches (no more than 3 mm).
 • On the last stitch, make a tight knot to secure the sewing.
 • At the end, you can strengthen the hole itself to the middle of the patch, pressing it tightly against the jeans themselves.
 • The seams should not be tight, without creases or a hard protruding seam.

How to make a knee patch

It is not uncommon for holes to appear in the knee area. This is especially true for children. But every time buying them new trousers is a complete waste, so patches on jeans on the knee will come to the rescue. Such patches can be made inconspicuous, or vice versa, repairs can be made so that it becomes a stylish decorative element.

Let's consider the second option in more detail.

 • First you need to prepare a piece of fabric in a contrasting shade. Such a cut can be cut out of a thing that no one will probably wear, and decide what the patch on the jeans will be in shape and size.
 • If you are still new to this business, then it is better to pre-prepare a paper pattern, and then transfer it to the fabric.
 • Bend the patch around the edges and tack.
 • Iron around the perimeter with a hot iron.
 • Now, with neat stitches, you need to sew a patch to the leg by hand or do this work on a sewing machine.
 • If desired, a similar patch can be made on the second leg.
 • After work, it is best to wash your jeans and let them dry naturally.

It is not always possible to choose denim that matches the color of the trousers. And you don’t always want to spend your time buying these few centimeters. Many needlewomen managed to get out of this situation using different patches.

Native tissue

by the most in a simple way is a patch on jeans made of fabric that matches in color and texture. In order not to go to the store for fabric, you can use a fragment cut from the trousers themselves. Such a place is a place under the back pockets.

In place of the cut out fragment, you can hem another dense fabric, since it will not be visible anyway. It is only necessary to pick up a dense material and carefully stitch the jeans from the wrong side.

Adhesive fabric

It has another name - "spider line". The material is good when working with scuffs, not through holes. To do this, a section of jeans is steamed and a “spider line” is glued with an iron. After that, it is recommended to sew the result obtained with a zigzag seam on a sewing machine, after selecting the threads to match the product. In some cases, patches may come off after washing, sometimes along with this section of the jeans.

For more than one year, ripped jeans have been at the peak of popularity. And jeans decorated with decorated patches can look especially feminine and elegant. True, we should not forget that the riot of fantasy should still border on common sense.

 • To create a slightly "worn" trousers in the area of the hole, a couple of threads are carefully pulled out so that the edges look slightly shabby.
 • Another option is the possibility of using lace to patch holes. It will look stylish not only on women's jeans, but also on children's.
 • For glamorous shine, you can use a scattering of rhinestones or beads. You can repair in the form of ornate patterns all over the legs or make a patch on jeans between pockets or along the bottom of trousers. In such an outfit it is difficult to remain invisible.

As already mentioned, the patch can be considered not only from the practical side. Bright fantasies of the designer can be expressed in the decor of children's things. Here are some solutions that can be original and fun:

 • You can make interesting children's applications (ready-made options can be bought in specialized stores).
 • One large patch can be replaced with several small patches (using scraps of fabric or leather, which are also sold in stores).
 • You can close small holes with neat embroidery using beads or sequins.

Everyone knows how to put a patch on jeans, but not everyone believes in the success of their needlework. In fact, this work does not take much time. And the proposed applications in the store are generally easily glued with an iron.

With the help of such patches, you can also close holes in jeans. Decorating rough jeans with lace inserts looks especially impressive. For this purpose, it is necessary to prepare the guipure you like, it can be of any color, as soon as the fantasy wishes. Lace inserts are made in the same way as regular patches from the wrong side. You can make a small fringe along the edges of the hole.

The peculiarity of weaving threads in denim allows you to make the patch on the jeans almost invisible. With a well-made patch, your favorite trousers can last more than one month.

Most often, holes on trousers appear in case of mechanical damage or due to friction during use. But sometimes you don't want to part with your favorite thing. In order for it to serve for a long time, patches are used, the role of which is not only to eliminate holes or any scuffs, but also to decorate things, making them more original look. Moreover, it is not difficult to do this, even a beginner can handle it.

Jeans have been on trend for decades. But after a certain time they lose their presentation. They have scuffs, holes and cuts. Craftswomen, with the help of original patches, return the “second life” to the product.

Where do jeans tend to have holes?

The technology for making patches differs from each other depending on the place of application. Most often, holes appear on the knees and in the area between the legs. You can make noticeable decorative patches from guipure or contrasting fabric and get a new one. stylish look products. As well as inconspicuous patches using darning or overlaying internal patches to match the trousers.

But is it really necessary, because until quite recently, people with their own hands eliminated defects on clothes that can be worn for a long time.

In this article, we will figure out what to do if your jeans have a hitch or a hole that can be mended with a regular patch. The photo of patches for jeans clearly shows that patching trousers does not seem to be something difficult.

Ripped jeans

Jeans are usually torn in the same places, so for each defect a certain type of patch is selected, which in one case or another may or may not be noticeable.

The most common problem occurs in the area of the knees and the divergence of the legs. If it is completely impossible for the knees to patch up the hole in such a way that it is not visible even with the most delicate approach, then the area between the legs is subject to careful restoration in such a way that not a single person will guess that there was a gap.

In addition to the sewing machine, you will always need a patch to match the color of your jeans, threads of the same color or similar, scissors and safety pins.

The area between the legs

Original patches on jeans are good, but before starting work, you need to give the hole a neater look so that the contrast is not striking.

First of all, it is important to remove the long protruding threads, and then sweep the edges so that the hole does not continue to grow in size. All this must be done manually to achieve a more delicate result.

The area should not be sewn too tight, as this increases the likelihood of creases and hard seams. Further, the instruction on how to make a patch for jeans is to select a patch that will fit both in color and size, and the size of the patch should be slightly larger than the hole itself.

It is important to sew the patch on the wrong side, and it will look better and it will be more convenient to wear the thing. Before sewing, you need to attach the patch in place with pins so that it does not move out to the sides.

Now you can sew on a patch, for this we will use a sewing machine and threads to match the jeans. Select the zigzag mode to sew the patch over the entire area.

The lines must be done as close as possible to each other, so you get a neat and inconspicuous seam. When the work is done, it is important to fasten the thread and cut it.

Knees

There are a lot of ideas from which you can make patches, but it is important to choose the one that suits you. Common cause torn knees forces you to either buy a new product or fix an old one, so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the following approach, which will allow you to achieve an original solution.

On closer inspection, any patch on the jeans becomes noticeable, so it would be better to make this place a design element. To do this, you can take a piece of denim, which will differ from the tone of the jeans themselves so that there is a contrast and both parts are in harmony with each other.

Master class on how to properly patch

First of all, we choose the size of the patch and cut it out with gentle movements without unnecessary cuts. The patch should be as wide as the leg and about 15 cm long, of course, if you have a larger hole, then the patch will need to be longer.

Fit the patch under the leg and pin it in place. Now you can start darning. This is done both on a typewriter and manually, but the first method is much more convenient if you have no experience.

The design decision implies that both legs will be the same, so do the same for the second leg, even if there are no holes. Another interesting solution would be the same patch, but only made of leather.

Note!

If you want to achieve even more impressive appearance, we recommend that you find best options patch handmade which will fit perfectly in your case.

For many, jeans are a wardrobe staple. However regardless of their cost they wear out over time. The most vulnerable place for the appearance of a hole is the space between the legs. But it is not necessary to immediately throw away your favorite jeans, you can increase their lifespan using a special blind seam technique and sew them by hand.

Repairing worn jeans

In order not to have to sew up holes in your favorite trousers, you should treat the item with care and take care of it from the first day of purchase. But consider the situation when the jeans are already frayed.

For example, on jeans between the legs, not only scuffs appeared, but the seam itself began to spread. To prevent tissue tearing, do the following:

How to make a patch between the legs

This method is used for a relatively small area of wear, that is, when there is no obvious hole yet, but the wear is already noticeable. In order for the situation not to worsen over time, the denim should be immediately strengthened. For these purposes, you will need denim patches, specialized fabric glue, or self-adhesive tape, popularly referred to as the "cobweb".

Apply thermal tape to the worn jeans fabric, covering it with a denim patch on top. The durability of this repair depends on the quality of the "cobweb". Also, do not forget that the more often you wash your jeans, the less the patch will last. However, if you stitch around its perimeter, it will last much longer.

If time permits, try to look in specialized sewing stores for ready-made denim patches, the second side of which is made of self-adhesive tape. This type of repair is performed with an iron. However, in the event that the tear is large enough, the process of wearing after this type of repair will become completely inconvenient. Since the fabric is significantly compacted, and therefore wrinkled worse, this area will be quite rough, which will bring discomfort during wear.

By yourself or by hand

mend jeans can be done in several ways:

 • darn jeans between legs on a typewriter;
 • seek help from the workshop so that the hole is properly patched by a specialist;
 • sew it up on your knee, holding it with your elbows, which is the cheapest method, but at the same time quite painstaking.

Blind stitch patch by hand

If a hole has formed on the knee, and it is large enough, during the repair process, follow the step-by-step instructions below:

Ways to avoid scuffs

In order not to mess around with patches and repairs to your favorite jeans, you should follow some rules for wearing and washing.

Keep in mind that when buying tight jeans that are too tight for you, or, conversely, too loose, be prepared that later this will lead to holes that will have to be sealed. Low-waisted models also tend to wear on the inside of the thigh. In order to avoid trouble, you should buy jeans strictly according to their size, without making allowances for the fact that the fabric will stretch during wear, and the jeans will sit more comfortably. As practice shows, not every jeans stretch to right size. Well, just in case, inspect the jeans for factory defects.

gentle wash

It is very important to read the label, which contains recommendations for the care of a particular item of clothing, but if you do not have such a habit, resign yourself to the fact that absolutely all jeans will sooner or later receive damage that is difficult to close - on the inside of the thigh .

Jeans should be turned inside out before washing. It is best to wash them separately or with other pairs of jeans. Don't go too often wash them. But rare cleaning also has a bad effect on the condition of the fabric, since small particles of dirt become fine abrasive, which frays the contact parts of the trousers while walking.

If you wash your jeans in cool water on a gentle cycle without using bleach, they will last for several years.

Drying in washing machine also causes damage to the denim. To minimize the damage from machine washing, dry your jeans natural way hanging on the dryer. These tips will help you extend the life of your favorite item. If your jeans are frayed, you already know how to deal with it. However the time will come when you still have to buy new ones, despite all your efforts.

In Holland, a man, an avid denim lover, wore his favorite jeans for more than 7 years, while repairing them almost daily. After they fell into absolute disrepair, several fashion magazines who raffled them off in a competition from a popular clothing store.

How to darn jeans by hand

Often you do not want to part with beautiful and original jeans, despite the fact that holes appeared on the knees and worn areas of denim appeared between the legs.
There are clothes in which you feel very comfortable and convenient, despite its age. And jeans, whether for men or women, are just such clothes. But often, it is on jeans that scuffs and even holes form, and you have to think about how to put patches on jeans.

How to sew up holes in jeans or repair frayed areas so that they are completely invisible? Jeans can be repaired in the studio, but often such repairs will cost more than buying new jeans. You can install patches yourself, if any. sewing machine. But where can I get denim for a patch? Darn a hole in jeans with threads, but how to make a darn?
Here are all these questions, how to repair holes and repair old jeans with your own hands, we will try to answer you.

How to mend a hole in jeans using the stitching method.

1. Keep your jeans cut when you cut them

Putting patches on jeans in frayed places or holes is not the best and most original solution. But, nevertheless, this method of repairing jeans can be used, especially for children's jeans. The patch can be made in the form of a cat's head, zigzag the edges of the patch and sew on a long mustache. And instead of eyes sewing a couple of buttons. This or that decision depends on your imagination, and the area where the jeans will be repaired.

Patches can be put on both men's and women's jeans in the form of a decorative pocket or symmetrical stripes on both legs. But where can I get pieces of denim in exactly the same color and quality? Unfortunately, solving this problem can be quite difficult. It will be much easier to solve it if, when shortening jeans in an atelier or with your own hands, keep trimmings, even small ones. They are the ones who can help you out when you need jeans repair. But if there are no trimmings, but there are holes, then another method can and should be used.

2. Instead of a patch, holes in jeans can be mended.

Actually, darning is not quite the right term in this case. The stitching of jeans will more accurately determine this operation. However, darning or the so-called artistic darning is also used in the repair of jeans. But we will not consider it yet and will focus on the contraption.

The most difficult area to repair jeans is on the knees. Holes, scuffs in these places occur quite often. And the main reason for their appearance is the deterioration of the fabric, and therefore it is quite difficult to restore them. And you also need to sew holes in such a way that they are not noticeable at all. If you can make all sorts of patches or applications on children's jeans, then for men's jeans"seals" with buttons instead of eyes will no longer fit. There is only one way - to perform a contraption.

First, select threads that exactly match the shade of denim in the place of the torn area, preferably even several shades. The fact is that when buying threads, even using a fabric sample, you are unlikely to be able to accurately guess their shade. And when you start stitching, tightly to each other, then it will definitely turn out that the shade of the threads is darker or lighter.
Torn places must first be glued with reverse side jeans with adhesive cloth. It will fix and connect the gap into one. However, pre-apply a small patch to the torn area (on the wrong side of the jeans). The patch must be of the same color fabric as the jeans. Its size should be slightly larger than the torn area. To prevent the patch from moving when sewing on the sewing machine, fix the adhesive fabric on top of the patch with a hot iron. You can baste the edges of the patch with thread, but the basting thread will be difficult to remove afterwards.

3. Stitching jeans on a sewing machine

In order to darn jeans using the stitching method, it is not necessary to have any special sewing machine. Almost any sewing machine will work for this. Some sewing machines even have a special stitch for this, when the stitches lay down (forward, backward) automatically, without turning on the reverse motion (backtack lever). If your machine has such a line, then good. If not, switch the machine to normal straight stitch and set average length stitch.
Circle with chalk the area where the piece will be performed and begin to “hammer” the marked area of the jeans with threads, from edge to edge of the intended border.
When the stitching reaches the edge of the area in one direction, press the reverse lever, and move the fabric slightly to the side (one thread), sew in the reverse direction. You do not need to unfold the jeans, you need to perform reverse stitching using the reverse stroke lever.
The sewing machine must be electrically driven, since both hands will be constantly busy with you.

4. Stitching jeans on a sewing machine is done in two stages

Shtukovka is performed, as a rule, in two stages. At the first stage, you lay cross stitches, fasten the patch with the main fabric and “fill in” the hole with threads. And in the second stage, you need to lay longitudinal lines. And not just longitudinal, but it is desirable to adhere to the direction of weaving of denim. That is, these lines should be angled so that they are like a continuation of the weave of denim threads.

If you matched the threads exactly to the tone of the jeans, then after ironing they will practically not be visible. By the way, the bottom threads (in the bobbin) must be the same color as the top ones. In addition, before repairing jeans in this way, adjust the tension of both threads. The top thread can even be slightly loosened.
The stitches should be laid close to each other so that the threads completely cover the entire section of the hole. And the patch installed from the inside of the jeans should not "peep out" between the stitches. Therefore, it is often necessary to perform the thing not in two stages, but in three or even four. By the way, about threads. The thinner and more elastic they are, the better this kind of "patch" on jeans is obtained. The optimal thread thickness is 35, but sometimes you can use a little thicker - 45. But not thicker, otherwise you will not have a patch on your jeans, but a "growth" of unknown origin.

5. Patches for jeans in constantly rubbing places

And finally, the most difficult case, namely, when you have to restore scuffs on jeans in constantly rubbing places. Indeed, it is very difficult to restore the frayed fates on the back halves of jeans, in the places where the legs are articulated. First, you'll need a sewing machine capable of sewing the rough crossovers of denim seams. Secondly, this "knot" of jeans will have to be disassembled and not darned, as shown in the photo, but patched. Of course, these areas can be plastered, as well as holes in the knees or pockets, but this is not always possible and effective. Often there is simply nothing to darn, because instead of fabric there are solid holes, which can only be restored by replacing these sections. That's when the leftovers from shortening jeans would come in handy. And nothing that they are with traces of "cooking" and finishing seams. In this section of the jeans, they will not be particularly visible, but the patches will be of the same tone and quality of the fabric as the jeans themselves.

Here's how you can use those leftover jeans.
First, disassemble the connecting seams of the jeans in this area and the remaining trimmings of the jeans. Iron all the details, expand the seams, remove the remnants of the thread. Mark with chalk a straight line of sections that need to be cut off and put new ones in their place. Before cutting, make sure you have enough pieces of fabric for patches.
