Weaving from strips of fabric. Technique "weaving" in patchwork. Patchwork patchwork rug is ready

breast cancer

Personally, I firmly believe that there are never too many rugs. They need a lot and different ones - from wool and cotton, plain and bright, round and square, simple and original, in order to change not only according to the season, but also according to mood. In summer it is pleasant to walk on soft cotton, and in winter you can also lay prickly woolen, if only it was warmer.

It is clear that buying rugs is not a problem now, you can not even leave the house - they will bring it, but this idea will cost a lot. But there is a way out: make them with your own hands from unnecessary things that you can probably find in a closet or in the attic. Choosing this option, we get a triple benefit: firstly, the rugs themselves, moreover, of the shape, size and color that caress our eyes and delight the soul. Secondly, we save a considerable amount, which we can spend with a clear conscience on the purchase of expensive seeds or seedlings. Thirdly, we free up space in the closet, pantry or attic. We get a cozy look of the room and the pleasure of a job well done as a bonus.

There are many techniques for making rugs, you can find master classes on any of them on the Web, so I suggest limiting yourself to ideas. Today we will admire home-made fabric masterpieces. Old t-shirts, sweaters, blouses, jeans, tiny patches - everything will work!

knitted

Surely many have recognized the "grandmother's" rug. Yes, earlier it was an attribute of exclusively village houses, but changeable fashion turned its face to a modest handicraft. Now interior designers vying with each other advise clients to decorate respectable villas with the simplest handmade rugs - this is stylish. And it’s easy to make: cut an old T-shirt (pillowcase, towel, dress - whatever you have) into narrow strips, sew or tie them together, and you can get to work.

If you knit from a strip of fabric - the rug will be soft, cozy. Many people like the improved version more: tie a strip of fabric with a thread, then the product turns out to be more dense, keeps its shape better.

Color combinations can be the most unimaginable. And do not be embarrassed if it turns out too bright: the main thing is that you like the result.

Improved "grandmother's" rug

In this technique, it is quite difficult to make even edges on rectangular rugs, but I would not grieve about this. In my opinion, the absence of perfectly straight lines only emphasizes the originality of the product.

Woven

The name is serious, but in fact everything is simple: an ordinary braid. For the base, strong threads are often taken, then the rug will last longer. But you can make it from the same strips of fabric, it will also turn out well.

See what happens in the end: threads are taken as the basis on the left, strips of fabric are taken on the right.

To create rectangular rugs, you will have to build some kind of loom: make a wooden frame, drive small carnations into the upper and lower planks. The closer the nails are to each other, the more warp threads, the denser the canvas will turn out. And for round rugs, you can get by with simpler options: attach the warp threads to a gymnastic hoop or cardboard.

Fans of large textures will surely like these options. And if each of the strips is filled with padding polyester and sewn along the edge (of course, before weaving), the rug will turn out to be much warmer and softer.

"Scythes"

A very simple and pleasant way: everyone will be able to weave a pigtail, and you can connect them in various ways: sew by hand, stitch on a sewing machine, glue to the base.

Some rugs are so good that you want to repeat them exactly. Sorry, but that's unlikely. Admiring the riot of colors, for some reason I remembered that psychologists advise adding warm colors to the interior in the gloomy winter months for a good mood.

Old towels and bathrobes can very well be given a second life with your help. Just look at what wonderful rugs they make from terry cloth! And how nice it is to step on them with bare feet! Ideal for bedroom or bathroom.

shaggy

They are also easy to make: short pieces of fabric are tied to the base - canvas (grid), it can be found in needlework stores. The mesh size is chosen according to the thickness of the pieces of fabric that will be pulled through it. True, a good foundation is not cheap. And again, our savvy craftswomen came up with an alternative option: sew pieces of fabric to the base. In the photo they are in a straightened form, and if you fold each piece with the edges inward, then the appearance of the product, whether on a grid or on a fabric basis, will be almost the same.

You can practice on abstraction, and having stuffed your hand a little, move on to creating more complex images, a flowering meadow, for example.

It's quite cute, isn't it?

Patchwork

Well, what about without it? Perhaps there are the most ideas in this technique, and each is good in its own way. But we decided that there should be a lot of rugs, so we don’t have a choice problem, right?

The rugs made of details with filling are very beautiful: most often it is a cord or a thin rope, less often - folded strips of fabric. They can also be sewn by hand, but they look much more beautiful when connected with a zigzag machine seam.

How beautiful it turns out! It's a shame to walk like this.

Like large fragments - please! If you prefer smaller details - no problem!

Well, these ideas are clearly for patchwork aces - a beginner is unlikely to have the patience to create such a complex design.

If you are sad about summer in winter, rugs in the form of flowers and butterflies will help brighten up gloomy cold days.

But a charming variety of patchwork is hand stitch. I really like it, I will definitely try to make at least a small rug (for starters).

Perhaps this simple method will help someone out: just lay the fabric trimmings on the base and quilt. The closer you lay the seams, the less likely it is that the edge of any patch will remain unstitched and spoil the overall look, proudly flying over the smooth surface of the rug. If there is a decorative mesh (I somehow used a piece of tulle - it turned out great), lay it on top of the shreds and then stitch it - everyone will lie like a pretty one!

I could not indifferently pass by cute ideas for the nursery. In addition to the main function - to prevent the small back from freezing on the cold floor - such rugs will help the baby develop spatial thinking, logic, patience and other useful skills. The puzzles in the photo on the right are made from scraps of felt, which can be successfully replaced with a woolen knitted fabric. Just before starting work, wash an old sweater or dress in hot water: the thing will decrease by several sizes, but the canvas will become so dense that the edges of the cuts practically do not bloom.

Denim

That's what is sure to be in abundance in every home, so it's unnecessary jeans. Either the steel is small, or the lightning is out of order, and children and grandchildren replenish the deposits in the attic with outdated models. Well, where to put all this goodness? The fabric is solid, strong, the hand does not rise to throw away. And rightly so: you can make a lot of useful things for the home from them, which is described in detail in the article. And the rugs are obtained - it's a pleasure to look at!

The already familiar sewn braids look charming, the stylish hand stitch pleases the eye, the fluffy rug on the grid pleasantly hugs the feet.

Or here is such a simple option: narrow strips of fabric sewn onto a dense base. Do you know of another easy way? Share with us, for sure, many people will like denim rugs, and there will certainly be no problems with the materials for making them.

patchwork corners

You can also sew by hand, although the machine will be much faster. The manufacturing technique is simple: fold a piece of fabric with a corner (an envelope, a semicircle with folds - as your heart desires) and sew it to the base.

Looking at these man-made masterpieces, I involuntarily remembered the bright symmetrical patterns of the kaleidoscope.

artificial stones

Only for the patient, because there is a lot of work here: first make blanks, and then assemble them into a single whole. True, the result is worth it - rugs are extremely beautiful and unusual.

From felt

From such a solid material, an extremely warm and cozy rug will turn out. But just putting a felt square or circle on the floor is not for us, it's too easy. How to decorate wool gray? You can see a couple of possible options in the photo. I think it is not necessary to explain what exactly needs to be done, everything is clear without words.

"Snails"

Fans of collecting rugs from small fragments will surely like this idea.

Just for a summer residence: from "snails»

Well, it seems to show you everything you see. I believe that I was not able to find all the ways to create rugs from fabric. Therefore, feel free to supplement the selection with ideas that have passed me by. And if you already have fabric rugs, share with us photos of your work, because there are never too many ideas for inspiration (as well as kind words addressed to the craftswoman)! Yes, I almost forgot: when looking at fabric ideas, keep in mind that we still have knitted and unusual rugs in line.

Be sure to take a look at these publications: those who want to get started as soon as possible will find a detailed description of some techniques in them, and the rest will simply admire the charming “out of nothing” rugs made by ordinary summer residents.

In preparing the material used photos from the site pinterest.com

Greetings to all participants of our joint project)))
Recruitment takes place here
I propose to start
I answer the question that arose among many - "What tapes are needed for work?" - almost any and almost any size (within reasonable limits, of course) ...
Satin, rep, with or without a pattern, plain and patterned bias tape, as well as ribbons cut from fabric and prepared in a special way

But the preparation of fabric ribbons deserves a separate discussion))) The oblique inlay is called so because it is cut along the "oblique". When I cut strips of fabric, I don’t really bother with the direction of the thread - it all depends on what kind of pattern on the tapes I want to get, well, on the size of the material available. The width of the tapes when cutting depends on the desired width of the tape after preparation and on the method of preparation.
And the methods are very well visible in the picture.

In the first case, we are offered to sew the tape along and, obviously, later smooth it out ...

I tried the second method myself - you can use a metal tape measure and smooth the tape on it. The width of the tape measure did not suit me and I used a cardboard template. Sewing the edges of the tape with a needle is extreme and an unjustified waste of precious time, IMHO ...

In the third case, as I understand it, it is proposed to fix the edges with a decorative stitch ...

Well, in the fourth, decorate the ribbon with lace (why not)

BUT for me, the most convenient way that I have tried is here Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPrFfg9rtmM Brilliant...

In addition to all of the above, there are also special devices for making oblique inlays.

Perhaps this is not a complete list of options, but the above, I think, is quite enough.

How to weave? Looking ahead, I note that at the initial stage it is worth deciding how you will fix the tapes in an already woven fabric -
1) you can subsequently sew / stitch the resulting braid with the base
2) you can iron a paper-based cobweb (mesh) on the wrong side of the ribbons in advance, remove the paper, and when everything is woven, iron the resulting braid together with the base - everything will glue tightly and you will get a very tough and beautiful braid)))
Please note: we take a cobweb necessarily(!!!) on a paper basis - like this

And by no means like this:

Weaving patterns are different. The simplest option is in 2 perpendicular directions (everything was probably woven like that at school) Due to the selection of colors and the use of ribbons of different widths, you can get a result that is shocking in its beauty

It seems to me that even without knowledge of Japanese, everything is clear (we fix the ribbons with pins):

And here are some more options for such a simple weaving

Here, apparently, they just decorated the ribbons with lace)))

And in conclusion, puzzling schemes (I would say, the next level, i.e. FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT LOOK FOR EASY WAYS AND LIKE TO SIT-THINK-IN DEALING))) Here is a video with similar weaving and beautiful examples - http: // www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcgORCcIjqY

From all that has been said, the conclusion follows about the simplest option - take ready-made tapes, glue with a cobweb, weave "in a school way", iron, process the edge with an oblique trim - voila !!! Napkin-stand for a mug-just a beautiful little thing is ready!

I wish you all good luck! Later there will be a post to discuss the project in October, where you can look at others and show yourself (in the sense of showing your work)

There is a very interesting technique in patchwork. It's called weaving. You can weave from ribbons of different widths or strips of fabric prepared in advance. I wove from satin ribbons and from oblique inlay. Depending on the number of colors and methods of laying tapes, different patterns are obtained. Let's try one of the drawings - "stars".

We will need:

  • a sheet of thick cardboard 25 by 25 cm (depending on the size of the product), cardboard from boxes is well suited;
  • many pins;
  • ribbons or oblique trim of three colors, 3 m each;
  • ruler;
  • pencil.

On a sheet of cardboard, we indent from the edge of the sheet on all sides 1-1.5 cm. We draw lines from the upper corners of the sheet, observing an angle of 60 degrees.

We cut the slanting inlay into segments of equal length, which is equal to the length of the cardboard sheet. We pin with pins at the top of the sheet. Be sure to observe the order of colors (for a particular pattern). For the "star" pattern, the color order is as follows: black - pink - silver.

Now we begin to lay the diagonal from the left from the bottom up to the right, observing the line on the cardboard. We combine the first strip of the oblique inlay with the line. We take any color. We observe the pattern: we lay each color on itself and lay it under the other two.

The sequence of colors when laying the first diagonal from the bottom up: black - pink - silver.

Observing the rule of laying the first diagonal: we lay each color on itself and lay under the other two, we lay the second color. Color sequence from bottom to top: black - pink - silver.

The next step is laying the second diagonal.

We observe the sequence of colors: from top to bottom black - pink - silver. Don't forget about the 60 degree angle line. We combine the first tape with the line.

The principle of weaving the second diagonal is as follows: each color lies under itself and is passed into the formed pockets.

Do not forget about the order of colors: from top to bottom black - pink - silver.

Thus we braid the entire surface.

We fix the resulting workpiece around the perimeter with the help of doubler. We remove the pins.

The resulting blank can be used as a decor in the product or sew a full-fledged thing.

Today we will learn how to quickly and easily make a braid, from which you can then create anything - a handbag, and a path to the table, and a whole bedspread, and you never know what such a wonderful technique is useful for. The main thing is to get acquainted with the technology of weaving, and then you can create anything.

Braid from shreds of fabric

So let's start braiding.

Prepare scraps of fabric, scissors, thread, needle, pins. First, cut out from a piece of fabric, or choose from the leftovers, strips of fabric about 5-7 cm wide.

We bend the edges as shown in the figure. We smooth the edges with an iron, and fix the edges with a thread. To make the edges even and neat, you can use a device for creating an oblique inlay. You can find out how to make such a device yourself.

When all the strips are ready, we proceed to create a braid

Arrange several strips vertically and secure them with clerical clips

Now diagonally weave the first strip. Start in the top left corner.

Please note that the side stripes are intertwined with horizontal stripes every two rows.

Secure the side strips with pins. Now we begin to weave strips of fabric with an inclination to the other side.

This should be such an interesting pattern.

We fix the weaving around the perimeter with a thread and a needle and cut off all unnecessary tails

Here we have such a blank, which can be used in any way. You can edge it, put it on a lining, give it any shape, and use it, for example, as a potholder, a decorative napkin or make a pillowcase for a decorative pillow. And if you make a lot of such braids from scraps of fabric and sew them together, you get an unusually beautiful patchwork blanket.

In this example, braid was used to create a cute purse bag.

Despite the fact that it will take a long time to tinker, the result is fully justified. It turns out a very unusual and beautiful wicker texture, and where to apply it is a matter of fantasy!

We will need 2 pieces of fabric (any one that is convenient to work with, you can choose a prettier fabric for the lining) of the same shape and size, depending on the size and shape of the future cosmetic bag (or bag, or wallet). Lightning. The length of one of the sides = the length of the zipper that we will insert. And you will need ribbons cut according to the sides of the fabric. It is better to cut tapes with a small margin - +5 mm. (I didn’t have enough brown and beige lurex ribbons, so I combined them with beige ribbons without lurex).

We work with one piece of fabric, the second is postponed. We fix the ribbons from one end along the 2 sides of the base fabric, which make up a right angle.

We start to weave.

Weaving option 1 - let's call it "Chess". He is the simplest.

The tape from the vertical row is intertwined with the tapes from the horizontal row as follows: the tape from the vertical row passes once OVER, once UNDER the ribbons of the horizontal row, alternating one at a time.

The next, second tape from the vertical row is intertwined with the tapes from the horizontal row, now vice versa - first UNDER, and then OVER the tapes of the horizontal row, also alternating one at a time.

The next, third tape from the vertical row is interlaced in the same way as the first. The fourth is like the second. And so, alternating, weave until all the ribbons are intertwined.

In the process of work, it is necessary to compact the interlaced rows, either holding the interlaced ribbons with one hand, and pulling up the non-interlaced, horizontal ones with the other. Or, with one palm, holding the unbound ends of the ribbons, and with the fingers of the other, shifting the twisted ends, compacting them.

It is desirable to fix the ends of already interwoven tapes, otherwise they will spread.

It's already half done.

And now all the ribbons are intertwined and their ends are fixed around the perimeter. (Ribbons are attached to the base fabric only along the perimeter).

We cut off the uneven ends of the tapes.

What we got, we fold in half with ribbons inside. Sew on both sides. Better with your hands, so as not to flash the ribbons running parallel to the stitching.

We just sewed two sides. But in general, at this stage, walls of any shape - round, square, etc. can be inserted (sewn) on both sides. Then we get a voluminous cosmetic bag, bag, wallet. (As I did in a napkin holder, for example). The sides can also be of interlaced ribbons, or simply a piece of fabric that matches the ribbons or a contrasting color.

We twist.

We take the second piece of fabric - it will serve as a lining for us. We sew on both sides, preferably grabbing a few extra millimeters into the seam so that the lining is slightly smaller than the base of the cosmetic bag and so that it does not gather inside.

Without twisting, insert the lining into the main part.
At this stage, some dense but elastic material can be inserted between the lining and the main part - for example, very dense polyethylene - to keep our thing in shape. But she will keep her shape anyway due to interlaced ribbons - they do not allow the cosmetic bag to be very soft.

We bend the raw edges into which the zipper will be sewn inward to each other (ribbons to the lining, lining to the ribbons), fasten with pins.

This I tried to collect the resulting bag. So that's good too. But we're moving on.

We sew a zipper. Better with your hands, carefully, so that the threads are not visible from the outside, or at least they would not spoil the overall look, but inside they would look neat.

We hide the edges of the zipper inside.

And here's what we got:

If necessary, the lining can be sewn to the base in the corners so that it does not turn out.

I didn't choose the shape very well. It was necessary to make a smaller length, a larger width. Okay, this is just an example.
If you sew on a long handle or 2 short ones, you get a handbag, if you make it 2 times shorter (across), you get a nice wallet, you can decorate it with bows, as I decorated the napkin holder, or something else. And on the inner lining, you can still sew a small pocket for a mobile phone or for keys, if it is a bag.

Now consider 2 more options for weaving.
Option 2 - let's call it "Herringbone" (see Napkin Holder for an example of weaving).

In the same way as in Option 1 ("Chessboard"), alternating we lay the tape UNDER and ABOVE the rows, only capturing not 1 row, but 2 each.

We begin to weave the second tape, the pattern shifts one row: 1 OVER, 2 UNDER, 2 OVER, 2 UNDER ... and so on until the end of the row, alternating by 2.

We lay the first tape, alternating 1 time OVER the side, 2 times UNDER the side, 1 OVER, 2 UNDER. And so on - 1-2-1-2-1-2...

We weave the second tape, shifting the pattern by 1 row (see Weaving the farthest, first tape from the second row): 2 UNDER, 1 OVER, 2 UNDER, 1 OVER. And so on until the end of the row, alternating "-1-2-1-2-1 ...

We weave the third tape, again shifting the pattern by 1 row (see Weaving the previous, second tape from the second row): 1 UNDER, 1 OVER, 2 UNDER, 1 OVER, 2 UNDER, 1 OVER - and so on until the end of the row, alternating 1- 2-1-2-1-2...
Each time the weaving changes only in the first row, because. the drawing moves.
Further always according to the scheme.

The fourth ribbon repeats the weaving of the first: 1 OVER, 2 UNDER, 1 OVER, 2 UNDER - and so on until the end of the row. Accordingly, the fifth ribbon repeats the weaving of the second, the sixth - the third - and so on until the end.

In general, you can use ribbons of the same color (it also turns out very beautifully) or vice versa, combine not 2, but more colors, making up patterns. Or you can combine narrow ribbons with wide ones, it will also be beautiful.
I thought that this is how you can make a hat and decorate clothes - a tunic, for example (twist ribbons on separate strips of fabric, and then sew on). Well, that's enough fantasy.
