Crochet baskets from ribbon. Weaving polypropylene boxes. Master class by Victor Kurmachev. Learn how to weave baskets from packing tape step by step

Colpitis

Our ancestors were also fond of weaving from bast. Previously, in their free time, people with their whole family sat down to such exciting and interesting activity. Ready-made decorative baskets, boxes, and bast shoes could be sold or used for their intended purpose. Today, it is most often possible to purchase such products in souvenir shops and at crafts fairs. But such gift options are very fragile and can only be used as decoration. To make a wicker basket truly durable and strong, you should create it yourself.

Usually the main difficulty for masters is selection of suitable material for weaving. Finding bast today is not so easy. Therefore, craftsmen have adapted more accessible means at hand for this. For example, you can weave a homemade basket from packing tape. This material is not only very durable, but also inexpensive. Often you can get it completely free. That is why it has become so popular and in demand among craftsmen.

First of all, when preparing to weave a basket, you will need to stock up on enough polypropylene packaging tape. It will be used in a very large volume. For example, to create one medium-sized basket, about 70–80 meters of the specified material will be spent. Buying it now is not difficult. You can find plastic ribbons suitable for weaving at construction markets and similar stores. You can order the material of interest to the buyer via the Internet.

Some thrifty owners even use tapes, already used. For example, they ask for leftover material in large stores, and then clean them of contaminants. But this is quite a labor-intensive process, so it is best to buy new packing tape. It has a price that is quite affordable for any master.

In addition to plastic satin ribbons, you will also need to prepare in advance Additional materials and tools. Among them:

  • scissors;
  • roulette
  • stapler;
  • pencil;
  • narrow pliers;
  • wide, strong board.

Of course, to make a beautiful, durable basket with your own hands, in addition to all the materials and tools used, the craftsman will need to be patient. The manufacturing process of the products under discussion requires perseverance and painstakingness.

Weaving a basket from packing tapes: master class

The most convenient to use is basket for 7–8 liters. It is suitable for mushroom picking, harvesting on your own summer cottage. In addition, such a product can be used, for example, to store underwear or simply to decorate a room in the Provence style.

As noted above, to make a basket of the specified volume you will need a large number of plastic tape. It is optimal to purchase 72 meters of material for this purpose. The technician will have to spend at least 3 hours on the entire work process. The exact amount of time it takes to make a wicker craft depends on the skills and experience of its creator.

First of all, all the prepared tape cut into small strips. Their optimal length is 2 meters. It is these strips that are most convenient to work with, and they allow you to make a basket of the planned size. As a result, the master will have 36 parts in his hands. To make it easier to weave them into the product, it is best to cut the ends of the ribbons not evenly, but diagonally. Of course, only large, well-sharpened scissors will allow you to do this. The master needs a wide board simply for convenience. Ribbons are laid on it during the weaving process. But in general, it will be quite possible to do without this accessory. You can proceed directly to making the basket.

Bottom

To begin with, mark the centers on 4 strips of tape using a simple pencil. From this line you need to retreat 15 centimeters in both directions twice. The points are again fixed with a pencil. Next, the middle is marked on the remaining parts.

Now you can start making the bottom of the future basket. For this a square of 18 by 18 parts is created. Weaving is carried out in a checkerboard pattern. It is important to measure the sides during the process. They should be 30 cm long. Parts of the structure are fastened with a stapler for reliability.

Angles

Further, craft corners are created. To do this, one of the sides of the square resulting from the tapes is divided into two parts (simply bent in half). It weaves 9 by 9 parts that are close to each other. To make the first corner as even as possible, you need to compare the marks previously placed in the middle of the tapes. The finished structure is also secured using a stapler. Punctures in it should be neat and invisible.

The remaining three corners are created using the same principle. At the end, they are aligned along the pencil marks and similarly secured with a stapler. To remove the cracks formed during the weaving process, you simply need to turn the product over and carefully pull the corner strips together. It is advisable to double-check the result using a ruler. If imperfections appear somewhere, the tapes are tightened again or loosened to the desired level. The bottom of the future basket is completely ready.

Sides and edges

Now you can move to the sides and edges of the product. The craftsman will need to weave the sides of the future basket until the marks intersect and secure the result again using a stapler. Having decided on the location of the edge, you can begin to pick up the tapes one by one until you come across a strip with marks. The second side of the edge is woven at a similar height. All that remains is to stretch the edges and weave the ribbons all the way through the entire product.

Sidewalls

Further, work begins with the sidewalls. The strips are folded and woven together. It is very important to periodically tighten the edge so that it is as smooth as possible. After pulling up, you can weave the ribbons to the very end and get rid of the paper clips holding the structure back. After this, the strips are cut to such a level that the tip of each can be hidden under the next part. Then they are all hidden in such a way that they are invisible neither inside nor outside the basket. Similarly, the ends are hidden when two parts meet during the weaving process.

It is true what they say that human imagination is inexhaustible. Especially when it comes to hobbies. All sorts of materials are used.
IN Lately It has become especially relevant to make masterpieces from scrap materials and waste with your own hands.In other words, we can say this - make the necessary out of the unnecessary. And not just necessary, but very necessary. made of polypropylene Recently it has become a favorite pastime of many craftsmen.

Master from Turinsk (Russia) Viktor Kurmachev is fond of making boxes, vases, lamps and other interior items from polypropylene waste. Crafts made from polypropylene - favorite hobby craftsman.

Victor provided his “Master class on weaving a polypropylene box”

For the base of the box, cut strips of equal lengths from polypropylene tape (calculate the length of the strips approximately as follows: the length of the bottom of the box + the height of the two sides + the fold of the edge on both sides (slightly less than the height of the side)
Similarly, cut strips whose length is equal to: the width of the box + the height of the two sides + the fold of the edge on both sides (slightly less than the height of the side).
For ease of weaving, cut the ends of the strips at an angle.

  • Photo 1. Lay strips of polypropylene on a flat surface. Secure them with weight.

  • Photo 2. Start weaving the bottom of the box.

  • Photo 3. Gradually add stripes in width.

FIRST STEP. To complete this you need strips: 13-1m.15cm long, 26-60cm long (13 on one side and 13 on the other side), 17-1m.10cm long. Lay 13 strips 1m.15cm long side by side. We press down the edge with a weight so that it does not slip and begin to weave with colored stripes (13 pieces). Next we weave 17 strips 1m10cm long, this will be the bottom of the basket. We move the ribbons tightly towards each other and again weave the side of the basket (13 colored stripes). 13 colored stripes determine the height of the basket and the right and left sides.

STEP TWO. We make a frame from steel wire, it is determined by the bottom of the basket. In the photo, the bottom of the basket is white. Make a bend in front of the colored stripe on both sides and lift the metal frame up and begin to weave the frame into the side stripes in a checkerboard pattern.

Frame weaving. Top of the basket.

STEP THREE. We begin to braid the front and back walls. To do this, take the first side strip on the right or left and start weaving in a checkerboard pattern as shown in the photo.

Braiding the first row.

This is how the strips of the front and back walls of the basket are woven. Next, white stripes are used to cover the wire in a checkerboard pattern. Two long strips are needed for the handles of the basket.

Photo of the basket. Only one side is braided. (The front or back of the basket - it makes no difference). When closing the wire, the strips must be pulled tightly. For convenience, place the basket on the floor. Insert the leg into the basket and tighten the strips and weave them in a checkerboard pattern. Weave in the ends so that they are not visible. The basket will be stronger.

Interesting weaving of baskets from packing tape is interesting and addictive. Of course, this work is difficult. But when you see the result, your mood instantly lifts. During creation, the muse must visit a person to gain inspiration. It is enough to watch video lessons or carefully read this article in order to learn the unknown.

From our ancestors to us

Our ancestors were very talented people. Probably, the knowledge received from them, passed on from generation to generation, is the most important and accurate. Is it possible to do something if you don’t have the skill? Of course not. Therefore, even in ancient times, ancestors, returning from work in the field, cleaning the house, began to do handicrafts. Then there was not such a huge range of materials, so baskets and bast shoes were woven from improvised materials. The work was difficult, but because the whole family worked together, fatigue was not felt at all. Weaving began its development precisely from those times.

Unfortunately, now few people know how to create wicker containers and make high-quality bast shoes. And few people are interested in creativity. After all, you can buy everything and not bother. But where is the confidence that tomorrow such a basket will serve for a long time, withstand the load, etc.? Things created with your own hands, with love, will serve faithfully for many years.

You can weave real strong baskets yourself. You just need to know how. To do this, you can use lessons and instructions from masters.

Of course, weaving from tree bark like our ancestors is the pinnacle of skill. This is quite difficult and problematic, so you need to use a substitute - packing tape. The material is durable, modern and completely inexpensive. It can be easily found at a hardware store or ordered online. This weaving has gained popularity among professionals and craftsmen. Let's consider all the intricacies of the work. And the master class will help with this.

Progress

To make a 7-8 liter basket, you need to use a lot of polypropylene tape (also known as packaging tape). Only 72 meters. On average, the work will take about 4 hours.

Auxiliary materials for the product:

  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • stapler;
  • narrow pliers;
  • knife and scissors.
  1. We cut the tape into strips of 2 meters. In total you will get 36 pieces.
  2. Tip - cut the ends of the ribbons diagonally for ease of weaving.
  3. Use a well-sharpened knife and large scissors.

  1. Take a pencil and mark the centers of the four strips.
  2. We retreat to the sides from the mark, length 15 cm twice. Don't forget to mark the points.
  3. On the remaining 32 strips we mark the middle.
  4. The bottom of the future product. The operation scheme is simple. We make a square canvas. Weave with a size of 18 by 18 in a checkerboard pattern. Measure the sides - they should be 30 centimeters each. Staple the corners. By bending one of the sides, we weave the corner of the basket. The area of the corner is 9 by 9.

  1. Continue working at each angle. Don't forget to secure it with a stapler. We remove the cracks by turning the basket over and carefully pulling the corner strips together. Check the accuracy of the dimensions!
  2. We weave the edges. Turn the basket over, weaving the sides up to the marks.
  3. At the edge, gradually bend the strips, hiding them inside. Weave in the opposite direction. Stop work at the marks and do the same with the other side.
  4. Pull the edges. Weave the protruding strips into the product. The staples can be removed when everything is measured and tightened.
  5. Use pliers or tweezers when weaving strips. They need to be pulled out.

The photo shows in detail the correct execution:

  1. Make a handle from 16 strips of 1 m each. Insert 2 pieces on the left and right into the corners along the edges of the basket. Eight stripes will remain on the inside. Weave a handle from them - together, in a circle. Pull the product to attach the handle. Ready!

It's difficult to make a pen. But this is great practice for beginners!

Baskets can be made in the same way, you just need to know the course of action. Best for beginners to use step by step guide so as not to get confused. Products made from tape are durable and long-lasting. Every housewife will love them!
