Probably, many mothers of babies were faced with the need to sew some kind of educational toy for kindergarten... For older children, they are usually asked to sew educational books, cubes or rugs, and for very small children - toys that help children develop physically - orthopedic paths, rugs, as well as all kinds of toys with which you can perform simple physical exercises.

One of these toys, aimed at developing the coordination of children's movements, is the "octopus". Children happily jump over its tentacles, raise and lower them with their hands, sitting on the floor.

Sewing such an inhabitant of the seas is possible even for a mother-needlewoman, who is not too sophisticated in making toys. Materials for it need simple and affordable, and it is sewn quite simply and quickly.

In order to sew the body of an octopus, you need to choose a pattern for an adult or children's cap, consisting of 6 wedges.

You can find it in specialized sewing literature, build it yourself, reshoot from a ready-made cap, or simply download it from the Internet.

Cutting and sewing

According to the pattern of the wedge of the cap, you should cut out 6 parts of the body of the octopus from knitwear. The seam allowances should be as follows:

All 6 parts must be duplicated from the seamy side with an adhesive strip on a knitted basis.

Then any 2 parts of the body must be sewn together along the side cuts with a seam 5-7 mm wide (depending on the processing allowance). In this case, the parts should look facing each other, and the seam itself should be laid on the wrong side of the parts.

For the convenience of sewing, parts can be pre-chipped with pins or swept away with hand stitches.

After that, the seam allowances must be spread out in opposite directions and delayed at a distance of 1 mm from the seam.

In the same way, you should sew and delay the third part.

The two halves of the torso must be sewn together, as shown in the photo.

Then you need to cut 12 pieces of tentacles (2 for each) from jersey. Their length and width can be arbitrary. The approximate length can vary from 50 to 60 cm, the width at the widest point is 6 cm, at the narrowest point - 3-4 cm, you also need to add a processing allowance of 7 mm ..

6 parts of the tentacles should be duplicated with an adhesive pad.

All parts of the tentacles must be cleaved in pairs - one part is duplicated, the other is not, face to face, and stitched around the perimeter at a distance of 7 mm from the cuts.

After laying the stitching, the allowance at the end of the tentacles must be trimmed to a width of 3 mm, so the part will turn out more easily and will look beautiful when finished.

The prepared tentacles must be turned out onto the front side.

Each tentacle should be loosely filled with holofiber. Due to the fact that one part of the tentacle is duplicated, and the other is not, the padding will pull the latter more strongly. As a result, the tentacle will be slightly curved, which will make the octopus look more realistic.

From white and black felt, you need to cut out the details of the eyes of the octopus. They can be of any shape. They must be sewn onto the body.

In the middle of each of the 6 wedges (along the lower cut), the tentacles of the octopus should be swept.

After that, you need to cut out the lower part of the body of the octopus from the jersey - a circle. Its diameter can be calculated based on the circumference that the widths form lower parts wedges (formula for the circumference).

The allowance for sewing the circle to the body should be 1 cm.

This detail should be manually swept along the entire perimeter on a layer of thin padding polyester, which will give it rigidity.

Then, approximately the length of the workpiece should be sewn to the body of the octopus. Through the unsewn hole, the toy must be turned out onto the front side.
