How to sew a fur coat

Natural fur clothing is made from animal skins that are stitched together. The number of seams depends on the following parameters:

Type of fur material;

Cut features;

Tailoring technologies.

If the connection of the fur plates is poorly made or low-quality threads were used, the product diverges at the seams. Breaks can also occur at the junctions of individual parts if the size is incorrectly selected. How to sew a fur coat?

The performance of the work depends on the complexity of the fracture. You can evaluate it by rebuffing the lining and examining the thing from the inside out. If the junction of the plates has dispersed without deformation, it is carefully sewn up with dense threads. In this case, the seam is performed in the direction of the pile.

It is more difficult to fix torn or jagged fur edges. In this case, you can not do without a patch.

A fur coat that diverges at the seams will have to be altered due to a size mismatch.

A small hole in a mink coat can be sealed using dublerin. It is a light, thin, elastic material with a layer of glue on one or both sides. To repair a fur coat, a piece of dublerin is cut out a little larger than the hole. It is pressed tightly and glued with an ordinary iron, through a dense fabric from the wrong side of the product.

Repairing a fur product is not an easy task. To perform restoration work, you need to know the causes of possible defects in a fur coat, as well as imagine how to remove scuffs, breaks and tears. The main thing is to correctly assess your strengths and volumes, as well as the complexity of the work, so that the restored fur will last more than one season.

Products with natural fur are expensive. And it's very disappointing when the fur breaks on your favorite thing. It doesn’t matter how it all happened - the threads with which it is sewn have worn out or you accidentally broke it. If you contact the workshop to repair the product, then for sure this pleasure will cost you a tidy sum. Today I will tell you how you can repair the fur on your own and at home.
Only at first glance it may seem that this is a very difficult and overwhelming job. And I advise you to try all the same with your own hands to make repairs.
I'll start repairing men's fur coats.

The tear in the fur starts right along the seam of the welt pocket and descends in an uneven line about 15 cm down.

First of all, you need to get to the place of the gap from the wrong side. We examine the bottom of the product. Sometimes the lining at the bottom is not sewn on (on the fly away) and then access to the wrong side of the fur is free. And what to do if the lining is connected to top products? And I have just such a case. I turn the sleeves inside out and look for the seam sewn at the top. I unpack it. This is the turning hole through which the fur coat was turned inside out after assembling the lining and top. But through the sleeve it will be inconvenient for me to repair the gap. Therefore, I open the seam of the connection between the top of the fur coat and the lining in the hem by 20-25 cm. Now access to the torn place is quite free.
I have thin fur and therefore I take the thinnest hand needle and thin threads (60-70). I begin to sew the fur along the seam along the pocket on the wrong side of the fur coat with small stitches. I pierce two layers of fur at once, the needle as close as possible to the edge of the mezra, the thread passes over the edge. I make subsequent stitches as close as possible. I fill the ends of the fur with a needle on the front side. Thus, I sew up the entire gap in the fur.

I want to advise for a rough and thick mezdra to take a needle and thicker threads and make stitches further apart. For thin and soft mezdra, the needle and thread are thin and the stitches are frequent.
And so, I sewed up a rush on natural fur by hand. On the front side with a needle, it is good to straighten the fur in the seam made. The repair of natural fur has not yet been completed and I do not advise you to leave it like that, you still need to glue the place of the gap.

For gluing natural fur, as well as genuine leather I use Moment Marathon Shoe Glue (see photo). It sticks well and the place of gluing remains soft, plastic. For gluing the fur, I will need fabric as a pad. I use harsh calico. If this is not available, then you can take another cotton fabric. I cut fabric flats along the length of the gap and a little more width, about 1.5 cm. My gap is uneven and therefore I will need 2 fabric strips. I well lubricate the seam of the gap with a width of 1-1.5 cm with glue on the wrong side and put the prepared strips of coarse calico on top. I glue the part of the pocket that protrudes from the inside. This will secure the pocket at the tear.
According to the instructions for the glue, I press the glued place with a heavy object and leave it for 24 hours.

A mink coat is a wardrobe staple that every woman desires to have. Products made of natural fur have always been valued and were in fashion. The more expensive a thing is, the more it needs to be preserved. However, there are times when it is impossible to predict. Even with the careful wearing of natural fur products, incidents occur that lead to the need for repairs.

There are various damages, and it is not always possible to fix the defect on your own. In this case, you will have to contact the studio for qualified help. But with some knowledge, you can cope with minor problems by repairing the product at home.

Main problems

Repair of a mink coat must be carried out extremely delicately so as not to spoil the fur and the appearance of the product. In this article, we will consider tips for solving the main problems that occur during the repair process.

It is quite possible to return the fur coat on your own previous view, but this is the case if the damage is minor, in more severe situations it is necessary to take it to specialists.

The main problems that any woman may face are:

  • Divergence or rupture of the dorsal seam of the product.
  • Small holes under the arm.
  • Rupture of a sleeve seam.
  • Rupture of the seam on the collar area.

The places where the mink coat is most often torn are the dorsal seam and sleeves. This is the most difficult option finishing work. If the dorsal seam has torn, you need to carefully rip off the lining of the insulation to get to the place of the rupture. Further, when repairing a fur coat, you need to prepare and attach a patch at the place of the gap. For these purposes, do not use scissors, which will only spoil the fleecy part of the patch. The patch is installed at the place of the gap and sewn with a regular line, the skin and fur do not need to be stretched. You can use a wooden mallet if you want to get even edges after stitching.

To eliminate the defect of the dorsal seam, a thick needle should be used, since the thickness of the fur in this place is somewhat greater than in other places. The stitching is carried out in the direction of the fleecy part of the product.

When repairing a mink coat, you may encounter another problem - repairing the sleeve. To sew it up, you have to do a difficult job - unpick the side stitching and lining material. The armhole is cut off so that you can see real size gap and its edges. If the fur is torn evenly, it will not be difficult to sew it up yourself by making a patch that is suitable in size.

Eliminate small gaps

It is difficult to repair the underarm area, it is complicated by the fact that it is necessary to pick up quality fur to insert and carefully sew it on. You can buy it at the tailor, but if you plan to recut your fur coat, as an alternative, use pieces of the remaining fur for repairs. If the hole under the arm is small, you can use special glue and glue the gap. For these purposes, rubber glue, which includes rubber, is ideal. The torn edges are pulled together using threads and a needle, after which a piece of gauze fabric is glued to the gap. This is a reliable way to fix the seam without damaging the outer one. If the repair of the fur coat is done correctly, that is, the edges were perfectly fitted to each other end-to-end, the product will look without visual defects.

Repair of a fur coat along the length of the sleeve is rarely performed due to rare cases of rupture of the product in these places. Basically, it is torn under the arm.

Liquid Skin Repair

There is one more good way independently repair a fur coat using a specially designed composition. For this, "liquid skin" is used, a substance that hardens when exposed to an oxygen environment. You can use a mink fur coat already 24 hours after the repair work. This product is produced in different colors so that you can easily choose it in accordance with the color of the product. The composition can mask the traces of reshaped and altered loops, lapels. Before the procedure, the edges are carefully tightened and leveled with a press, they must first be degreased.

Minor repair of a fur coat along the seam

Valuable fur must be properly stored and checked before purchase. Frequent cases of tearing along the seam should be stitched with dense thick threads, try to turn the pile of fur outward so that the stitched seam is not visible. Go through all the stitches with a needle manually, and also in order to avoid sprawling seams in the future, step over the edges.

Using sewing machine the repair is carried out with the "goat" stitch, the overcast stitching method is also well suited. Repair of a mink coat can be done with a contact tape for gluing the seam and at the end sew with a goat-type overcast. This method is the most efficient and accurate. At the same time, keep in mind that the quality of the repaired product and the stitching seam affect the durability of the fur coat.

Improper storage, as well as bends or scuffs of the pile, often spoil not only the appearance of a fur product, but also unsettle its owner. The only consolation is the fact that such defects can be corrected independently. From this article you will learn how a mink coat is repaired and how to restore it with your own hands.

How to fix torn seams under the armpit (photo and video)?

At home, such sewing repairs are carried out manually - with an overcast seam or a “goat” seam.

Important! In no case should you use an ordinary line machine - it pulls natural fur during operation and damages the core.

For easier and better work, the open seam must be glued with a special contact tape (without heat treatment) and stitched with an overcast seam.

We put a patch

In order to eliminate a hole or repair a gap, it is necessary to pick up a piece of fur with the same pile as in the damaged area.

Important! For a patch, you can take a part cut from the belt, side seam or selection.

To sew a mink coat with your own hands, you must follow the following algorithm:

  • Using a blade or tailor's (clerical) knife, carefully trim the edges of the damaged area, giving it the desired shape.

Important! When working with fur, you can not use scissors - they cut off the pile.

  • Gently baste the patch, trying not to pull on the fur.
  • Finally sew on the patch with an overlock stitch.
  • At the final stage, the place of repair should be lightly tapped with a wooden hammer through thin fabric or paper - this is necessary in order to even out the fur.

We eliminate scuffs

You can eliminate small fraying on the folds by tucking them into the inseam. To do this, you must follow this algorithm:

  1. Rip off the bottom lining and the seams that secure the hem.
  2. Carefully sweep away the bald spot.
  3. Duplicate using cold contact tape.
  4. Cut out the damaged area with a blade or knife.
  5. Next, you need to sew the edge along with the contact tape, using an overcast seam.
  6. Turn the fur product inside out, tap the seam through fabric or paper.
  7. Sew the lining back in place.

How to replace the lining?

To repair the fur of a fur coat by replacing the lining, you need to contact the master.

Important! Lining fabric for a fur coat should be chosen from viscose or natural materials so that the fur can breathe. After consulting with the master, you can add or remove insulation.

Coating a fur coat

Even a hole in a fur product can be repaired.

Work materials

In order to restore your favorite fur coat, you need to stock up on the following materials:

  • Threads of the right color.
  • A set of needles.
  • Bandage.
  • Coat glue.

Progress

If your fur coat was torn along the seam, then this option will be the most painless and not scary. It is enough just to carefully, but at the same time, securely sew up the damaged place where the fur coat was torn.

Important! In this case, it is necessary to flash the seam twice, and fasten the threads of the first seam in such a way as to prevent further propagation of the hole in the seam.

If the skin itself is torn, then you will have to glue it. The choice remains with the owner of the fur coat - he can either seal it with his own hands, or take the fur product to the studio for a specialist to do it.

Important! It is necessary to immediately decide on the place of restoration, because the fur product will have to be there for several days in order to dry well, while not changing its original position. Perfect option- this is a dry and sunny place where the fur coat can be easily placed horizontally without twisting it.

Do-it-yourself fur repair is as follows:

  • The first step is to attach the torn edges of the fur to each other as accurately as possible.

Important! Be as careful as possible! Otherwise, even an inconspicuous distortion can affect appearance repaired product.

  • Next, you need to carefully sew the pieces of torn skin to each other. Try to do this as gently as possible, while using a thin needle so that damaged skins do not continue to tear.
  • After that, it is worth preparing the glue for further work. Glue "Moment" is suitable for this procedure like no other, however, you can use any other adhesive you like.
  • Cut off a piece of bandage - it should be slightly larger than the seam where the two skins are fastened together. Next, you need to soak the cut piece of bandage with glue and attach it to the seam.
  • Leave the fur product to dry.

Important! During drying, you can not pull, change the position of the fur coat, hang it in the closet. It will be much better if you leave the fur coat in the position in which it was during the repair.

A fur coat is a symbol of beauty and femininity, but it happens that this luxurious fur product can somehow be damaged. From this article, you learned how a mink coat is repaired at home, which means that now you do not need to go to a studio for professional repairs.

A fur coat is an adornment of every woman. You want to walk in exquisite fur clothes for more than one year. What to do if you find a cracked seam on your fur coat or tear it in the most unexpected place? Do not despair and run to a fur studio. It is quite possible to sew any fur coat with your own hands. Unless, of course, you have not torn out a whole tuft with a root from it. For work you will need: a needle, thread, glue, gauze, scissors and pieces of fur.

The lining of the fur coat can be stitched along the edge of the hem or loose. In the case of a non-sewn lining, turn the fur coat inside out so that the breakthrough is available to you. If the lining has a strong attachment to the fur part of the product, it is worth carefully ripping the fabric opposite the place where there is a torn fur. When you have completed all the restoration work, sew the lining over the edge or on a typewriter.

When manually stitching fur products, the parts are folded with the fur inside, pierced with a needle, pulling the thread, throwing it over the cut of the fur, sticking the needle into the same puncture and tightening the thread. The next puncture is done after 2-3 mm. from the side where the needle came out, and again repeat the same cycle. As a result, a line is formed on both sides of the fur cut with a step through one interval. Such a seam is called furrier.

Most often, fur products are torn at the seams. The skin is quite flexible and elastic, but the threads with which the parts are sewn can disperse under pressure, moisture and temperatures. Take a close look at the break. If the fur coat, as such, did not suffer, and the problem lies in the threads that hold different skins together, sew up the tear boldly over the edge.

Details should be tried not to be displaced relative to each other, otherwise the fur coat will be led to the side, and the place of repair will surely catch the eye with an incomprehensible tuberosity or pile location. Carefully placing the fur coat on a flat surface, and start making the first line. Then put on the product and evaluate the correct connection. If there are no errors, sew the parts more firmly. After the details are sewn, the long outer hair of the fur and the pile must be taken out with a needle on the front side of the fur coat and combed.

If the part of the coat itself is torn, then it is also quite possible to do it on your own. Gently folding the damaged parts together, secure them with pins, putting a layer of gauze or other fabric on top. Using gauze, you can stick one product to another. To do this, you will need Moment glue or special glue for leather and suede. Such a patch will last a long time without affecting the properties of your fur coat.

Adhesives based on organic solvents for repairing leather and fur clothes are not suitable, because their base can interact with the skin, spoiling it even more.

If you need to sew up an item made of astrakhan fur, use the remains of old astrakhan fur coats or hats of a similar color for repairs. Patches on such products are completely invisible due to the wavy structure, so feel free to restore them as often as you want.
