It is not always possible to choose accessories that fit perfectly into the finished interior of a kitchen, living room or bedroom. However, if you make them yourself, this will not only bring the joy of creativity, but will also allow you to create truly suitable and beautiful furnishings. One of such practical and pleasing things to look at can be a bright, beautiful napkin holder made of cardboard.

You will need:

Thick cardboard 2-3 mm thick

Colored paper for interior and exterior decoration (about 2 A4 sheets)

Thick PVA glue

Reliable glue for joining parts (Moment-Crystal or hot glue gun)

Mounting tape (aka kraft tape)

Sharp scissors

Utility knife (you can also use a roller knife)

Ruler, pencil, compass, glue brush

Self-healing cutting mat (if you don’t have one at hand, take care of the safety of the table surface in other ways)

Metal stationery clips or clothespins

The template of the proposed napkin holder is very simple, but easy to use, and will help us become familiar with some basic techniques of the cardboard technique, which allows us to create beautiful and practical boxes, organizers and boxes from ordinary cardboard.

From thick cardboard we cut out 4 semicircular blanks and 2 rectangular bottom parts.

You can change the size of the template to your liking and even vary the shape of the blanks.

Let's start connecting the parts. To do this we need a wide mounting tape. We glue together the parts of the bottom and walls, and adhesive tape should fasten them both from the inside and from the outside.

Tip: you can decorate a napkin holder not only with colored paper, but also with bright cotton fabric. The algorithm of work in this case will remain exactly the same, however, before covering it with fabric, it would be advisable to cover the outer part of the napkin holder with a layer of plain white paper.

We trace the workpiece on colored paper, making allowances of at least 3 cm on all sides.

Bend colored paper and paste over the cardboard blank from the outside. For this we use PVA glue, trying to ensure that there are no bulges or folds on the paper.

Now 4 cuts should be made in the “cover”. To do this, use a pencil to extend the line of the inner fold of the napkin holder by allowances and make cuts along it, not reaching the end of the part 3-4 mm. We make small cuts diagonally to the edge of the napkin holder.

Glue the allowance to the inside of the napkin holder. After this, we trim the side parts of the “rim” in the same way. We place the napkin holder on its side, make a straight cut from the fold line, and stepping back 3-4 mm from the edge, finish with a triangular cut.

Now we make jagged cuts along the edges with scissors, without cutting about 4 cm to the edge of the cardboard part. Otherwise, sloppy gaps may form at the end.

Glue the cuts to the wrong side. To make the glue adhere better, you can press the folds for a while with clothespins or office clips.

While the main part is drying, we return to the remaining cardboard blanks. They need to fit inside the existing napkin holder, so they should be reduced slightly by cutting off about 2mm from the flat side of each of the semicircular pieces and from one of the edges of the rectangle. Don’t forget to check how the pieces fit by placing them inside the napkin holder.

For the inside of the napkin holder, it makes sense to choose paper of a different color. We glue the blanks onto the paper, making allowances of at least 1.5 cm on all sides. We cut the corners at 45 degrees and make zigzag cuts along the rounded edge of both parts, also not reaching the very edge of the template.

Glue the side parts of the bottom part, leaving the long parts free. We bend and glue all the allowances onto the side parts.

Now all that remains is to connect the outer and inner parts of the napkin holder. To do this, first glue the bottom part so that the remaining un-glued allowances are fixed to the side walls. After this, we glue the side parts using Moment-Crystal type glue.

When the glue has firmly set, our napkin holder is ready to take its place on the dining table and be a delight to the eye!

Good afternoon, my dear friends!

Today I am sharing with you my new experience, it will be a napkin holder made from disks. I'll tell you how you can make a napkin holder from CD/DVD discs. Disks themselves are rarely used these days. But I’m sure that many people have them lying around idle. I, too, like a hamster, did not throw them away, I kept hoping that they would be useful on the farm. And finally, I found a use for them. In one of the previous master classes, I decorated. in techniques – Decoupage and Paper art. Therefore, I decided to make a napkin holder in the same style, so to speak, a set.

Napkin holder made from CD/DVD discs

For work I needed:

  • CD/DVD discs – 3 pcs;
  • Napkins;
  • PVA glue;
  • Glue gun;
  • Acrylic paint, gold;
  • Acrylic paint, white;
  • Acrylic varnish;
  • Wine cork.

I want to say right away that this napkin holder was decorated in the same way as the bottles. Therefore, in this master class, I will not describe Decoupage and Paper Art in detail, only general principle. You can see more details about the decor itself

And so, two disks will go on the walls of the napkin holder, one disk will be the base.

At the disk, I cut off one part. I applied a metal ruler and drew several times stationery knife. When the cut got deeper, the disc simply broke. I did the same with the second disk. These will be the sides of the napkin holder.

Cut off the edge

I cut off the edges of the third disk; this will be the base of the napkin holder.

Cut off two parts

In the middle of the disks, I glued small polyethylene circles with PVA glue. I did this so that the holes would not break through.

Cutting polyethylene circles

I diluted PVA glue with water and used the Decoupage technique, and glued napkins onto the discs.

I pasted a napkin

Now you need to let the napkin dry (to speed up the process, I constantly used a hairdryer).

Then, I painted the middle, where the polyethylene is, white. acrylic paint. I painted it only on the outer sides, there will be a drawing here. When the paint had dried, I cut out two designs from a Decoupage napkin and acrylic varnish glued it.

After the varnish had dried, everything (except for the drawings, of course) was covered with blue acrylic paint. For uniformity, I painted it a second time. Dried it. And I used gold paint all over the blue background.

I glued the pictures and painted them with blue paint.

All that remains is to apply napkin flagella (Pape art). This is probably the most painstaking part of the work. But, due to the flagella, the napkin holder will turn out elegant and openwork. I have done paper art only on the sides so far. I will decorate the bottom after I glue the sides.

Glued napkin flagella

The decoration of the napkin holder is finished, all that remains is to assemble it.

Using a utility knife, I cut the wine cork into four pieces.

Cut a wine cork

And covered them with gold paint.

Covered the corks with gold paint

I glued two corks to one side panel (on the inside) with a glue gun. They will serve as napkin stops.

Then, I applied glue to the other sides of the corks and glued the second side. To make it even, first I put a side panel with corks, tried it on, applied glue and attached the second side panel.

I glued two corks to the sides

Now, quickly and carefully, I applied hot glue to the lower edges of the side panels and glued them to the base.

Glued the sides to the base

All that remains is to make “legs” for the napkin holder. I glued the remaining two mugs to the bottom of the napkin holder using a glue gun. And the protruding parts of the base were decorated with napkin flagella.

That's it, the napkin holder made from discs is ready.

Well, now it comes complete with spice bottles.

Napkin holder made of discs complete with bottles

This is how you can make a napkin holder from disks with your own hands.

Friends, if you found my master class useful, share it with your friends!

Let's now make an interesting and beautiful napkin holder with our own hands, which guests can put on the table along with original napkins. There must be a napkin holder, because it’s not easy to put napkins on the table, but they will stand neatly in the center or on the side. We will spend a couple of hours making the craft itself; we will take the material we need during the master class.

First, we need cardboard with a thickness of 2 millimeters, draw a circle on it and divide it in half, the radius is 8 centimeters. We also cut out the bottom, the size of which is 15x5 centimeters.

We also cut out similar parts from paper to cover the napkin holder. Make the internal parts one centimeter smaller.

We glue the cardboard blanks using instant glue. We wait until it dries.

Before covering the outer part with paper, we cut out similar blanks from the fabric.

Take a colorful cloth and smooth it out.

This is how the blanks need to be laid out, and then cut out of the fabric but with an allowance of 1-2 centimeters.

It is visually clear that fabric blanks are larger than paper blanks.

We cover the walls of the napkin holder with paper blanks, and do not spread too much PVA glue.

Apply glue to the white paper with a brush and glue the fabric. On this moment We work only with the outside.

We make cuts along the bend so that it is easy to bend the edges.

Lubricate the edges of the napkin holder from the inside with glue and wrap the fabric.

Then, to cover the cardboard sections, we glue a piece of green fabric to the inside of the bottom.

We pour more glue on the bottom than on the walls.

Now we work with the interior decoration of the napkin holder, gluing the bottom and sides to the fabric.

We cut the fabric with allowances, make teeth on the bend, and make 45-degree cuts on the bottom at the corners.

We immediately wrap and glue the short allowances.

We put the bottom inside the napkin holder, but first we pour glue, and glue the long allowances onto the walls from the inside.

On the side inner workpiece, we also wrap and glue all the allowances.

We glue the side blanks inside the napkin holder.

Now we make the bottom from the outside.

As for me, this homemade product is very difficult, since you need to master many methods and work with more than one material. Of course, in this regard it is easier to create or, but mixed types of homemade products are incredibly beautiful and useful in life.

A napkin stand, or napkin holder, is an indispensable attribute of a festive, and not only festive, table. Made from the most different materials, these little things are designed, while performing the function of a napkin holder, to also please the eye.

Of course, you can buy a ready-made item, but a napkin holder made with your own hands looks much more interesting on the table.

A little history of napkins

Napkins appeared more than three hundred years ago; they were sewn from expensive fabrics, decorated with embroidery, and were used by noble, rich people. Over time, with the development of manufactories, napkins began to be used by different segments of the population. These beautifully designed items, most often embroidered, were used at celebrations, carefully stored and passed on from generation to generation.

Then the napkin, folded in a certain way, was threaded into a special ring and in this form was placed near cutlery. Nowadays, also on special occasions, linen napkins threaded into a ring are used, which give the set table a solemn appearance.

Over time, one-time paper napkins, which we all actively use. For many uses various items, and a beautiful napkin holder is one of them.

Plywood napkin holders

Nowadays, not many people are interested in sawing from plywood. In the middle of the twentieth century, when there were not only computers, but also televisions in apartments were a rarity, many people in their free time cut out a variety of things from plywood with a jigsaw, decorating their lives. Now they cut out not only with a jigsaw, but also use laser cutting, and MDF napkin holders made by laser cutting, in Lately often seen on tables.

A napkin holder made of plywood, drawings of which are not at all difficult to find, like other things, is made slowly, with love. The warmth of the hands and soul of the person who made such a craft brings joy to the house. It’s always nice to look at something made with your own hands, and if such a product decorates the table when serving it, then doubly so.

Previously, albums with cutting patterns were produced. A napkin holder made of plywood, drawings and drawings of which could be found in such an album in life size, took quite a long time to complete. First, the drawing was copied onto plywood, then parts were cut out along the contour. Sometimes the drawing changed along the way, but very rarely, special attention was paid to small details.

The finished item was assembled from several parts, sanded, varnished, stored in a visible place in the house, shown to guests, and often used.

Napkin holder made from newspapers

A DIY napkin holder can be made from a variety of materials, including tubes rolled from old newspapers. Now this hobby has spread quite quickly. From old newspapers, cut into pieces in a certain way and rolled into tight tubes, they make Christmas decorations, they are used to weave hats, baskets, coasters, even Easter eggs. These tubes are very convenient, they do not break, they are easy to work with, they fit well and are attached to each other. You can weave either straight or spiral.

Napkin holder from newspaper tubes, made with your own hands, looks very original and is easy to do.

CD napkin holder

Now that recording discs is possible at home, a glitch during recording can make the disc unreadable. Craftsmen often give used, no longer needed discs a second life. They are used to make chandeliers, lamps, watch dials, boxes and much more.

A napkin holder made with your own hands from CDs will highlight the individuality of the performer and will be an original gift.

Anyone can make such a napkin holder, the main thing is desire. It can also be decorated in different ways. The photo above shows one option, but the discs can be painted, another picture can be pasted on, in general, there is a lot of room for imagination.

Napkin holders made of different materials

People make napkin holders with their own hands from cardboard, covering it with beautiful fabric.

There are craftsmen who create beautiful napkin holders from plastic bottles from detergents.

And there are hobbyists who make napkin holders from napkins. There are even napkin holders made from clothespins, which are very original.

Such products can be the most different shapes: round, square, rectangular, asymmetrical.

And amateurs are engaged in creativity not because there is no money to buy a ready-made thing, but because the soul asks to do something original, something that others do not have.

Conclusion

Ready-made napkin holders in huge selection, from a variety of materials, both factory-made and hand-made, can be bought in stores.

But a napkin holder, made with your own hands and painted (if necessary), bears the imprint of the individuality of the person who made it, the warmth of his heart and soul.

And such a thing is always in demand and brings a lot of joy to both the one who made it and the one to whom it was given.

A DIY napkin holder made of cardboard is very simple. To work you will need:

  • 2 mm cardboard;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors and stationery knife;
  • 2-3 sheets of colored paper (we will need it for external decoration);

DIY napkin holder made of cardboard: getting started

A fairly simple template is offered for your consideration, but this does not make it any less attractive or practical. In this case, this “simplicity” is associated with familiarization with some basic techniques. If you don’t yet have experience in such events, then this option is just for you! You will be able to gain the necessary experience, and in the future create different ones from cardboard.

Cut out 2 rectangular and 4 semicircular pieces from thick cardboard.

You can increase or decrease the size of the future napkin holder as desired by changing the size of the blanks.

Use mounting tape when connecting parts. Do everything exactly as you see in the photo. It is necessary to tape over not only the inside, but also the outside.

A little advice: As a decoration for a napkin holder, you can use not only colored paper. You can also choose cotton fabric in different colors. This will not change the work process, except for one thing: before tightening, the inside of the fabric must be treated with glue.

Trace the already glued blank onto colored paper. From each edge, retreat 3 centimeters.

Fold the cut colored paper and glue it around the workpiece using PVA glue. Try to avoid air bubbles.

After the glue has dried completely, make small cuts on the paper. They need to be made at the junction of the walls and the bottom.

The part of the paper that protrudes at the edges must be glued to the inside of the napkin holder. Then repeat the same procedure, but only on the side parts. Make jagged cuts as shown in the photo.

Glue the cuts to the inside. Use clothespins to prevent the paper from coming off until the glue dries completely.

Now that the main part is ready, it’s time to start making the last elements. The remaining blanks should be inside the main part, so they need to be trimmed a little (2 mm on each side). Do not forget to check the workpieces by periodically applying them to the walls of the finished part.
