What is quilling?

1:52 1:62

For those who do not know what the quilling technique is, I would like to make a short excursion. This type of needlework is considered very simple, but at the same time, very beautiful. Quilling does not require expensive tools and materials. All you need for work is good mood, an interesting idea and time.

During the creation of the compositions, paper strips with a width of 3, 4, 6 and 10 mm are used. There can be several devices for spinning.

There are professional curling machines sold in specialized stores, as well as handy tools such as a tapestry needle with a large eye and a 10 cm long round wooden stick.

1:1274

It is also advisable to stock up on tweezers with flat tips. It is needed in order to hold the paper blank, apply glue to it and stick to the surface.

As for other devices that are necessary for working in the quilling technique, they can be found in any home. These are scissors (preferably with sharp ends), a ruler, toothpicks, PVA glue.

If you decide to seriously engage in this type of needlework, then the stores sell whole sets, which include all the necessary tools and you do not have to collect them separately.

The "quilling" technique as a form of applied art continues to gain momentum. She attracts with openwork and ease of creating crafts. For those who are not in the know, we will explain: quilling is a technique of twisting strips of paper, shaping them into the desired shape and creating compositions. The latter, by the way, can easily receive a prize and the title of a masterpiece.

Most often, the "quilling" technique is used to create holiday cards, they are decorated openwork crafts... By the way, curled paper makes wonderful snowflakes for the New Year, so in December the theme of decorating postcards is especially relevant.

Crafts in the "quilling" technique for the New Year

Snowflake

We need:
  • glue;
  • strips of colored paper (you can use blanks from the store);
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • matches;
  • beads.

Process of creation:
1.Wrap the strip on the match
Take a match and use a sharp knife to split the edge of it. Squeeze the edge of the paper strip into the crevice of the match and start winding it around the match. Do it not too tightly to make the detail more beautiful.
2. Make paper blanks
You will need 12 such blanks, so repeat the action 12 times.
3. Make a snowflake
Start shaping the snowflake. Gently squeeze the round workpiece and give it the desired shape. Start gluing the parts together, forming a snowflake out of them.
4.Glue the beads
Glue beads around the perimeter of the entire snowflake. Make a loop out of the thread and attach it to the snowflake. Such a craft will successfully decorate a New Year's tree in your home.

Christmas tree. Option 1

We need:
  • glue;
  • toothpick;
  • strips of paper Green colour;
  • scrap paper;
  • beads;
  • glitters;
  • congratulatory printouts;
  • corner punchers;
  • ribbon;
  • snowflakes.
Make frequent cuts on the paper. To speed up this process, fold the strips 3 at a time and then cut.
Wrap the prepared strips around a toothpick and fix with glue. You should have a tight bud.

One Christmas tree takes 10 buds. Stick the buds on paper, and then fluff each one with your fingers, and you will see the buds open.

Use a decorative hole punch on the corners of the rectangles.

Make a bow out of ribbon, and glue the beads in the center. Cut a paper towel into 1 by 1 centimeter squares.
Using the trimming method, make a snowdrift. Use a paper bag handle for the tree trunk.

On the reverse side glue the printout with congratulations.

Using green glitter, cover the lush buds of the tree with glitter. The forest beauty will sparkle, as if thousands of lights were lit on it.

Christmas tree. Option 2

If you twist the quilling paper into not such dense rolls as in the previous master class, but shape them, you will get original New Year trees.

Volumetric Christmas trees made of paper

If you glue and assemble quilling paper into one whole, you can get a voluminous Christmas tree. Decorate the crown of such a beauty with a gilded star. Do not disregard the decorations for the tree. Glue on the beads that will replace paper tree christmas balls, apply artificial snow and glitter.

Postcard with quilling decor

We offer you to make two postcards using the "quilling" technique: the first one will show a snowflake with spruce branch, and on the second - a Christmas tree with gifts.

Snowflake with spruce branch

We need:
  • pin;
  • openwork hole punch;
  • white, yellow and green paper, cut into strips (the width of each is no more than 0.5 centimeters);
  • ruler with circles of different diameters;
  • thick paper for a postcard.
First, cut out a rectangle. In the corners, make openwork elements using a decorative hole punch.

Take a piece of paper and cut it into small strips. They are for the future snowflake.

Begin to curl the strip and then insert the roll into the diameter ruler. The end of the strip must be glued so that the roll does not lose its shape. Then squeeze the edge of the circle - you should have a drop.

Make a few of these details. When there are several parts, you can begin to select the location for them on the postcard and form the snowflake itself.

Make the same details in green. Make a spruce branch from them.
Similar parts are needed and yellow color: they will form a candle.

Christmas tree with gifts

We need:
  • pin;
  • openwork hole punch;
  • paper green and pink flowers, cut into strips (the width of each is no more than 0.5 centimeters);
  • thick paper for a postcard;
  • glue.
First, let's prepare the postcard itself, the base. To do this, arrange a rectangle made of thick paper with openwork corners.

Cut the green paper into strips, and then twist them, as you did in the previous version.

Make a drop by gently squeezing one edge of the piece.

Fold the finished parts into a Christmas tree, having previously attached them to a postcard.

Make gift boxes. Use pink stripes for this. Sometimes use a safety pin to twist small parts.

As soon as all the details of the future postcard are ready, start collecting them into a craft. First, glue the Christmas tree. Place gifts under it.

By the way, use beautiful cardboard, as well as a quilling kit for your crafts. In this technique, you can create many New Year's motives... Options for postcards, photos will come to your aid.

Tips for Beginner Quilling Technicians

To get a tight roll, you need to wind the paper tape tightly, and then secure the end with glue.
If you wind the strip at first tighter, and then release it slightly, you get the so-called loose roll. You can give the workpiece and the shape of a half-bomb or, for example, a drop, for this you need to flatten the part with your fingers. Most often, this technique is used in the manufacture of flower petals.

Experienced craftsmen use different techniques for each form.
Eye shape. It is necessary to squeeze a round workpiece from both sides at the same time. Form "Square". First, make an "Eye" shape, then rotate it vertically and squeeze the part again on the sides.
Form "Rhombus". Make this detail from the "Square" blank, flattening the shape a little.
Shape "Triangle". First of all, make the "Drop" detail, then grab the corner and flatten the base of the triangle.
Arrow form. Twist the Triangle blank and then use your index finger to push the middle of the short side inward.
Crescent shape. This part is made almost like a blank "Eye", only a curved shape. The corners of the part are pinched with a shift, and not opposite each other.

Open forms:
"Heart". Fold the strip in the middle. Bend both free halves inward.
"Horns". Fold the strip in the middle. Twist both halves outward.
"Curl". Mark the middle of the strip, but do not fold. Twist the ends to the middle, only in different directions.
"Twig". Bend the strip approximately in a ratio of 1: 2. Twist the ends to one side.

Postcards are always a great addition to a gift. And if these cards are still made by hand, then the value of the gift rises to heaven, because the soul of the donor, his good mood and sincere wishes are invested there.

Materials:
- pastel paper of blue color 15x30 cm (density 160 g / m2);
- scrap paper - a square with a side of 15 cm (you can print a beautiful background on watercolor paper);
- a piece of paper for watercolors or whatman paper;
- paper for quilling green, width 2-3mm, red, light and dark yellow, stripes width 5 mm;
- a tool for quilling;
- a simple pencil;
- manicure and curly scissors;
- curly edge punch;
- stencil ruler with circles of different diameters;
- PVA glue joiner;
- creasing (you can use a non-writing ballpoint pen);
- half beads;
-silver-blue stamp pad and "Congratulations" stamp;
- cutting - frame;
- and most importantly ... good mood!

Cut off a 15x30 cm rectangle from a sheet of pastel paper. This is the basis of the postcard. For an even fold in the middle, crease and fold in half.

Pass a square of scrap paper with a side of 15 cm with a curly edge punch. If not, then a beautiful edge can be created using curly scissors. In this case, the size of the square will be 14.5 cm.

Using PVA glue, glue the scrapbook paper on the front side of the postcard, placing it in the center. And put it under the press. You can use double-sided tape when gluing scrap paper. This glue is thick, glues quickly and firmly.

Measure a square with a side of 13.5 cm from a sheet of white office paper.

Cut off a 13.5 cm square using curly scissors. Thus, you get 2 smooth edges and 2 curly ones.

Glue the postcards on the inside of the back. This will be the place to write your congratulations. You can decorate a twig with a stamp (they gave it while I was preparing MK, so it is not in the photo with the material).

To create the bells, you will need 6 strips, each 5mm wide. Glue the paper tape in this way: 2 dark yellow + 2 light yellow + 2 dark yellow.

Using a special tool, twist a tight roll, glue the tip. Twist the second roll in the same way.

Gently squeeze the roll, giving it the desired shape. Pour generously with glue. And leave to dry. I used the ruler to take pictures.

For the bow you need 3 red stripes 5mm wide. Using a quilling tool, twist a roll from one strip and dissolve to 12mm. Make 2 parts.

Give the roll a "drop" shape, and then, holding the tip with your fingers, press the base of the tool (brush) from above. The result will be a "triangle" shape.

Twist a tight roll from the third strip, pour abundantly with glue. This will be the bow knot.

To create a Christmas tree, you need 36 strips 2-3 mm wide. (I had 5 mm wide strips cut from office paper. I cut them in half along the long side.) Twist a roll from a 30 cm long strip and dissolve it to 12 mm. Glue the tip.

Give the roll a "drop" shape.

All parts are liberally coated with PVA glue for the joiner and allowed to dry. A transparent film is formed from the glue, which does not allow the roll to crumble. And gives flexibility.

Assembling the Christmas tree. Determine the location for the tree. Glue the bottom row of 8 pieces first, in the form of a small arc. Apply glue to the workpiece. For preschoolers, you can draw the top line of the row to make it easier to navigate.

Then glue the second row of 7 parts, placing them between the parts of the first row, slightly gluing over the lower parts. Like this.

Each next row will be one piece less. Glue them in the same way as the previous ones. Thus: 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.

Continue assembling the postcard. Glue the bells on the joiner's PVA glue, placing them side by side.
Form 21

Decorate the bells with a bow, gluing the parts, corners to each other. Glue the "knot" over the joint.

Circle the cut-out "frame" on a piece of paper for watercolor or Whatman paper using a creasing machine. Cut with nail scissors.

Pass the cutting edges with a stamp pad suitable color... The stamp pad can be replaced with watercolor paint by applying it to a sponge or foam.

Stick to the chosen place.

Pass the stamp pad on the "Congratulations" stamp.

Place the impression on the punching line. Be careful while doing this !!! You can put the print in place for congratulations.

Complement the decoration with half-beads using PVA glue, joiner: in the corners of the scrap paper and above the herringbone.

The New Year's card is ready.

Quilling is an absolutely wonderful thing, whatever one may say. The adherents of this very "curly" hobby never sit on the ground with folded hands, because any slip of paper left without foresight next to them is already an excuse to make some kind of charm.

And, of course, in front of everyone new year holidays their talent and artistic taste open up an infinite variety of options for their application, because, as you know, there are never too many decorations for this occasion. And the more diverse and original they are, the better ...

Moreover, quilling is perfect for gifts, and in general it is very calm, creative and fun activity for the whole family. Which, by the way, is most adored by children, of course. And today we will try to make several thematic decorations in a number of common and simple techniques. And we will start, perhaps, with the most demanded - snowflakes.

Snowflake in quilling technique

If the child has never encountered this type of creativity before, then he should be offered a simple version of the product. You can prepare an elegant picture on a winter theme. There is no need to run to buy special tools, it is better to start acquaintance with creativity using the materials at hand. So, for work you will need:

  • copier paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue, pencil, ruler;
  • special tool or wooden skewer;
  • sparkles, paints.

First you need to cut paper strips and twist the rolls, as in the picture.

Further, from strips 10 cm long, you need to prepare rolls in the shape of a "tear", for this you need to make a circle and easily flatten it from one edge. You also need to make "eyes". For this, the roll is pressed from two sides. Next, you should take strips 15 cm long and tightly roll each end individually to meet each other.

The last elements are prepared from strips 10 cm long. One edge is wrapped in 2 turns. Two parts should be glued together. Next, you need to collect the snowflake, starting from the middle.

Snowflakes must be collected as shown in the picture. Finished decoration can be gently covered with paint, glitter.

Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. It is enough just to learn how to twist several types of rolls.

You can prepare such quilling crafts for the new year for friends and relatives. You can decorate a room, a school office with snowflakes.

Volumetric herringbone using quilling technique

Making a Christmas tree pendant or painting is boring, you see. Is that for a New Year's card will do. Today we will try to work on a voluminous beauty that will look very stylish among your other crafts. For her we need:

  • PVA glue;
  • quilling paper in green, white and brown (the latter is wider);
  • twisting tool;
  • ruler with circles of different sizes;
  • scissors;
  • thick marker;
  • toothpick;
  • tweezers.

First, wind two brown strips separately on a thick marker and glue their tip. Using the tool, we wrap a green skein, insert it into a ruler with a 1.6 cm circle and let it bloom there. Now we hook up the center of our circle with a toothpick, move it a little to the edge and carefully remove it, not allowing it to go any further. We also fasten the tip with glue. Squeeze with your fingers for a drop.

We prepare 10 such drops. for the bottom row. We take a white strip of the same width, and glue it around each blank in two layers in a circle. We glue the rings on the brown ring along the side with a downward slope (like the branches look at the Christmas tree).

Now we prepare 9 more drops with a diameter of 1.5 cm, glue the second brown ring on the previous tier and glue it in the same way in a circle with drops. For the third row, we need 7 drops from 1.4 cm circles, the fourth - 6 pcs., The fifth - 5 pcs., The sixth - 4 pcs. - all by 1.3 cm.

The hole in the top can be filled with another inverted droplet, or a large bead can be glued to the center. By the way, you can use the same identical or multi-colored beads to decorate the craft.

Angels - Christmas tree toys using quilling technique

It is quite simple to make such angels. For them, we need the following blanks:

  • three large drops;
  • two are medium in size;
  • two are small;
  • one medium-sized rhombus;
  • one large circle;
  • two small circles.

We glue the side that is closer to the sharp part, all large drops. Between the extreme and central we wedge two smallest droplets along the "hem of the skirt". Glue a rhombus to the top of the skirt, and glue a rhombus to its central part, on both sides, along the middle drop (forming, we make a slight bend of the top to one side - "raised handles" will be obtained). We glue a large circle to the top of the rhombus, and on the sides of it - two small ones on a slightly elongated tip (this will be a hairstyle).

The finished toy should be attached to a string and decorated with light gold beads.

Openwork ball for the Christmas tree

Such a ball can be used as a hanging toy for a Christmas tree or as a lampshade for a mini-night lamp, as well as as a component of a garland - it looks very New Year's, but is done relatively simply. Though not fast ...

First you need to prepare a hemisphere the right size(although you can collect on a large christmas tree ball, only, be sure, you should draw an equator line on it with a marker so that you do not go beyond it during assembly). The basis in our case is nine-pointed daisies, but you can take any other symmetrical shape.

The first to roll are two circles - the middle of the flower. Then, twice, nine rhombuses, after which they are glued in a circle to each circle, while it is necessary to collect the flower already on a ball-stand, so that a slight inclination of the petals begins to be observed.

Now both flowers are tried on to the surface - if the spaces between them are by one piece, suitable balls are spinning and the gaps are filled (we glue them only to one side!). If there is a lot of space, fill them with drops and circles so as to go out into one continuous row of circles. When all this is done, remove the quilling from the base and glue the two halves together.

Now you can tie or glue a ribbon to it and hang it on the Christmas tree. For the lampshade, we do not glue the parts in such a way, forming a hole so that the figure can be freely put on top of the nightlight. By the way, the reflection on the ceiling and walls is magical!

These are such wonderful quilling crafts for the New Year 2020 we got today. Although, in fact, there are an incredible amount of ideas for this beautiful and multifaceted technique. And we sincerely wish you to be able to try them, if not all, then all you liked, for sure!
