Calendar of significant and memorable dates. What are the holidays in December? What is celebrated in December

Cytomegalovirus

December is full of holidays (in the full meaning of the word), as well as historically significant events that are widely celebrated both in our country and the entire world community. There are more than a hundred of them, these holidays and events in calendars, including foreign ones.

December 3 is marked as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. They make up a significant part of the world's population. And most of the time, through no fault of their own. Of course, life is difficult for them - someone is weak or does not see at all, the other moves only in a wheelchair, the third is generally bedridden. And we are called to help them so that they do not feel superfluous in the world. On this day, people with disabilities are especially often visited, they are interested in their problems, they give gifts in the form of modern gadgets, or even help them get an education right at home, and then work, make their living environment comfortable - special ribbed paths on the sidewalks for the visually impaired, ramps and lifts in multi-storey buildings for wheelchair users. Disabled people are happy to participate in the Paralympic Games, which, as a rule, immediately follow the Olympic Games, whether they are Summer or Winter.
But the fifth of December is one of the most important historical events for Russians. Soviet army stopped the Nazi hordes near Moscow, which had previously marched victoriously across Europe. And not only stopped. Thanks to the twenty-eight guardsmen of General Panfilov and thousands of other brave red soldiers, led by such talented tacticians and strategists, military leaders as Zhukov, Rokossovsky, Vatutin and others, a turning point began in the course of the Great Patriotic War and the enemy was finally defeated in his very lair - Berlin signing an act of unconditional surrender in Potsdam.
On December 9, we celebrate the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland. Its beginning is far away. In 1769, Catherine the Great established the Order of St. George the Victorious. Potemkin, Nakhimov and other military leaders were awarded with it. Knights of St. George are also involved in the holiday. Since 2000, the order has become the highest military award in Russia.
There are, it turns out, romantic holidays in the world! For example, December 15 is International Tea Day. There are many brands of it - Chinese, Ceylon, Indian - you can't count them all, there is also a domestic one - Krasnodar. We like to drink tea in the morning, after dinner - black, green, with all sorts of fruit flavors. And it's great for health!
No less romantic is the Day of Civil Registry Office Workers (civil status records). It is not celebrated unless convinced bachelors!? And so, the majority of Russians with enthusiasm and happy smiles on their faces went through the marriage procedure (remember our young past!). The holiday falls on December 18th.
And after him (December 19) is the Day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. He is revered today by all the good Christians of the world. During his lifetime, he pacified those involved in strife, saved from death, resolutely defended the innocently convicted. According to these and other amazing and good qualities, he was numbered among the Saints!
December 25 - a great feast for Catholics around the world - Christmas! We celebrate it later - from January 7th. Solemn services in majestic cathedrals and small churches, gilding, silver, rich robes of clergy and enlightened parishioners. Meals follow. Both old and young glorify Christ the Savior!
Well, what can we say about New Year on the night of December 31st. A truly national holiday - with the Kremlin chimes and the indispensable congratulations of the President of the country with a fragrant Christmas tree, shining with elegant toys and colorful lights of garlands, round dances and fervent drinking songs, incendiary dances, with the obligatory "Champagne" on the table and obligatory chocolate. Fireworks and fireworks. People have fun until the morning. By the way, we celebrate the New Year twice - according to the new and old style. Everyone in the world is surprised by this. But these are our centuries-old traditions and customs!
