Options for creating a herringbone topiary

To understand how a Christmas tree decorated with tangerines, you need to remember one rule: the diameter of the base (pot) must match the diameter of the crown. In this case, you get a stable and harmonious composition.

If it is not possible to find a suitable container (a vase, a jar, a glass), you can make it yourself from plasticine and old newspapers using the papier-mâché method. The process is as follows: the shape of the container is molded from plasticine and pasted over with finely chopped pieces of newspaper. The more layers of pasting, the more durable the papier-mâché will be.

The easiest way to create a topiary is as follows: a fluffy Christmas tree branch is placed in a container of suitable size and strengthened there with decorative stones or any other base weighting material. You can also use a quick-hardening composition: gypsum, alabaster, plaster.

The crown of an ornamental tree traditionally has the shape of a ball. In order to make the Christmas tree topiary, the master class suggests using tennis balls, plastic or foam balls. You can make the base for the crown yourself. To do this, you need to take a piece of polystyrene foam or a hardened polyurethane foam and cut a ball of the required diameter out of it. The base of the crown can also be made from hot air balloon: paste over it with newspapers in the papier-mâché way, and upon completion of work, release the air from the ball and remove it.

The children and I made a bright Christmas tree like in the first picture of the balls. Bought plastic balls. We made a cone out of paper to focus on this shape. We connected the balls with instant glue, you only need a drop of it and it holds well. It turned out incredible beauty. Unusual and bright. Now we are on fire with the idea of making a big Christmas tree like this, but here you can’t get by with a couple of sets of balls)

AT kindergarten There was a task to make a craft for the New Year. I do it every year and my imagination has already dried up a little. After thinking for a long time, I decided to voluminous Christmas tree. I got it 30 centimeters high. I made the base from whatman paper, used old beads to decorate Christmas trees. I also glued the entire cone with pine needles. Thin tinsel and rain braided the entire base. We made Christmas tree decorations with our daughter from colored paper and also glued them to our Christmas tree.

    The most important decoration for your home new year holidays it's definitely a tree. And if everything is clear with live spruce, then in the manufacture of artificial spruce there is where to swing the craftswomen. Christmas tree can be made from a variety of materials - paper, plastic bottles, pasta, cones and even coffee beans, and allspice. Thus, thanks to imagination and free minutes, you can create amazing masterpieces and decorations with your own hands. Crafts are in demand at any time of the year, but winter ones differ from others in their beauty and unusualness. They are made so by the holidays, which of course we all adore.

    Small green beauty It will be a wonderful gift, it will also serve as a magnificent decoration for a festive table. In this master class, I will tell you in detail how to make a New Year's topiary with your own hands, using paper and other practically waste materials. You will learn how to make Christmas trees out of paper, with which you can pleasantly amaze and please loved ones on New Year's holidays, as well as ennoble your office or your home with them.

    For the Christmas tree we need:

    • Sheet of A4 paper;
    • aluminum wire;
    • Styrofoam;
    • Lining fabric;
    • Green thick threads for the Christmas tree;
    • Twine;
    • PVA glue and Moment glue;
    • Sequins of two types;
    • Christmas tree beads 50 cm;
    • Braid for decoration;
    • Ribbon for bows;
    • A plastic cup;
    • Building plaster;
    • Sackcloth;
    • Sintepon;
    • Candy wrappers.

    Making a frame and a trunk for a Christmas tree

    We twist a paper sheet in the form of a cone and glue it along the edges with PVA glue. Then we measure the height of the cone with a ruler and draw a cut line along the bottom edge.

    A strong aluminum wire will serve as a trunk. We string a cone on it so that the wire goes beyond the top of the cone, and put a foam cap on the opposite end of the wire, push it further, closing the bottom of the cone.

    It is better to fill the inner space of the frame for our Christmas tree with old newsprint so that it does not deform during further work with it. Do not forget to treat the ends of the foam cap with PVA glue before closing the cone with it.

    We give shape to the future topiary: we glue the lining fabric to the foam bottom, we fix its edges on the sides of the frame itself. We give the necessary shape to the trunk of the topiary: from above above the top of the cone and from below with the help of pliers, tightly wrap it with twine. Then we wrap the frame itself several times with green thread.

    And the last thing left for us: wrap the entire Christmas tree from top to bottom with green thick thread for knitting. Don't forget to secure your work with glue.

    Christmas tree pot decoration

    It is necessary to choose not too large, but not too small a pot for New Year's topiary. In my case, it turned out to be a glass of yogurt.
    We cut the glass for work, glue it on the bottom with lining fabric and wrap it in burlap, the edges of which are folded inside the glass.

    Now you need to prepare a gypsum solution to fix the topiary in a pot. To do this, we dilute gypsum with water in approximately the same proportion so that the mixture eventually turns out to be thick, like fatty sour cream. With this solution, we almost completely fill the glass.

    We immerse the trunk of our Christmas tree in the solution and hold it in this position for a while so that the gypsum in the pot hardens a little.

    After the gypsum has completely hardened, we make out a glass. We let the braid along its upper and lower edges, you can also decorate the center with sequins or lace flowers. We mask the surface of the “soil” in a pot with a padding polyester and put gifts made from candy wrappers into it.

    Now the best part: decorating the Christmas tree itself. We decorate the lower edge of the “skirt” with braid to match the overall composition. We put necklaces of gold beads on the Christmas tree, glue one short thread to the very tip of the topiary and mask it with a small gold bow on top. Next, we decorate the Christmas tree with bows, beads, sequins in a free order.

    At the end of the article, as always, I want to introduce you to a video clip about creating Christmas trees, very creative and non-standard, designer Christmas trees from a florist-decorator:

    New Year holidays are one of the most anticipated and wonderful in our lives. It is noteworthy that every year, in anticipation of the New Year, we are waiting for something magical and trying to bring something new, unknown into our lives and, of course, into the house. The tradition of installing a live Christmas tree is gradually giving way different options home decorations such as wreaths, artificial fir trees, twigs. Do-it-yourself New Year's topiary is another option for crafts that can beautifully and inexpensively decorate a house for the 2019 holiday season.

    What it is

    Topiary is a beautiful tree in a pot, which is made by hand. The origin of such decorations can be called plant architecture, which was popular in the 17th century. Gardeners carved all kinds of figures from bushes: birds, animals, portraits.

    Today, the topiary is a tree made of decorative, natural materials and others. AT recent times they are even made from sweets, cheese and sausage. They are not suitable for decoration, but will be a great gift.

    Making holiday topiary with your own hands

    There are many master classes on the Internet, but there are rules that you need to understand before starting work.

    1. The first step is to decide on the style of the craft. It can be a stylized Christmas tree or a pine tree, a tree made of cones, acorns, glass balls, satin ribbons, paper napkins or money. You can use the symbol of 2019 according to the Chinese calendar: the yellow pig.
    2. New Year's topiary can embody the fulfillment of your cherished desires, which means that you can add symbols of everything that you would like to bring into your life to decorate it. It can be coins to attract money, a toy car to make dreams of a new car come true, hearts to attract love. The creative process will be a resource for positive changes in life, because we all make wishes under New Year, so why not help yourself with their wording by creating a topiary?
    3. Handmade New Year's souvenirs will be wonderful gifts for friends and family. Through such a gift it will be possible to express your very best wishes.

    So, from what the tree will be made, it remains to be understood how. The topiary consists of a crown and a trunk, which are subsequently attached to the base.

    Any planter, flower pot, plastic or glass cup, cup, small box can serve as the basis.

    For the barrel you will need a strong wooden stick, several wires twisted together, you can also use plastic or metal rods. The trunk can be straight or curved - it depends on the idea of \u200b\u200byour tree.

    The crown most often has the shape of a ball. For this, foam plastic or various kinds of balls are used, on which the materials decorating the topiary are fixed. For a Christmas tree, you can use conical shapes or an abstract crown.

    Crown

    It is better to start with the preparation of the crown. Let's consider several options.

    • From mounting foam. In order to make a round crown yourself, you can even use mounting foam. To do this, take two plastic boxes of sour cream. Fill them with foam. When it hardens, remove the boxes. Glue the foam together with PVA glue, and then cut it so that you get a neat ball.
    • From foam. Take a thick foam, you can use the rest of the packages of household appliances. Glue a cube out of it with PVA glue and carefully cut it with a paper knife. True, when cutting the foam, the material is highly electrified and scatters around the apartment. It is better to immediately clean it with a vacuum cleaner.

    • From threads. Take a balloon. Puff it up right size and wrap with threads, impregnating each layer with PVA glue. The layers of thread should be quite dense and completely cover the ball. When the glue dries, burst the ball. It turns out an openwork base in which you can easily fix light topiary decorations.

    • rubber ball. A medium-sized rubber ball can serve as the basis for the crown. Just do not use pins to attach jewelry to it. But the glue gun will attach the materials well to the base.

    • Papier mache. Paper, glue, paper. From papier-mâché, you can create a cone-shaped, and spherical, and a crown non-standard shape. The disadvantage is that it takes time for each layer to dry properly. Yes, and the strength is slightly lower than that of polyurethane foam or polystyrene.

    • Foam, polystyrene, and thick cardboard are suitable for a cone-shaped crown. It is only necessary to maintain the proportion of the cone correctly.
    • Non-standard forms. Hearts, abstract shapes are created in a similar way from any available materials. Creating such crowns requires more experience and patience.

    Trunk

    As mentioned earlier, the trunk can be straight or curved. Ordinary wood, wire, plastic is perfect for it.

    To decorate the trunk, you can use:

    • acrylic paints;
    • threads;
    • tinsel, rain;
    • crushed shells or ground coffee, tea;
    • other interesting and accessible materials.

    The foundation

    Often the finished craft is not very easy. In order to give it stability, you need to take care of a solid foundation. Most often, gypsum or alabaster is used for this:

    Manufacturing process:

    1. Decorate the pot for the base.
    2. Pour alabaster solution into a pot. It should be thicker than sour cream in consistency.
    3. Insert the barrel into the solution, fix it and wait until it hardens.
    4. After hardening, attach the crown to the trunk. Glue the joint with PVA glue or other strong glue.
    5. Now you can start decorating the product.

    Having familiarized yourself with the features of manufacturing parts of the craft, you can begin to implement the project. The templates below can help.

    Christmas tree of acorns and chestnuts

    To make this craft you will need:

    • Several acorns and chestnuts.

    • Beautiful strong branch for the trunk.
    • A suitable glass or pot for the base (usually equal in diameter to the diameter of the crown).
    • Foam ball for the crown.

    How to do:

    1. The manufacture of the crown ball is described above.
    2. Prepare a topiary for decoration, fix the tree in a pot.
    3. Prepare acorns and chestnuts. Spray some with golden spray and, when dry, attach one at a time with a glue gun to the crown. It is necessary to carefully select acorns and chestnuts in size so that the roundness of the crown is preserved.
    4. Gently glue beads and seed beads into the gaps so that there are no gaps.
    5. Decorate the trunk of the craft. It can be dyed acrylic paint or sprinkle with golden spray and glue some beads to it.
    6. Decorate the base. On the frozen alabaster, fix a couple of acorns and beads. You can also spray alabaster or paint over the alabaster so that there are no gaps. And you can sprinkle a finely cut fabric on the glue, and then fix the acorns and beads.

    2. It is better to paint the cone with paints to match the cones or green.
    3. Place the smallest cones at the top, attach the largest cones to the bottom of the cone.
    4. Fill in the spaces between the cones. There you can attach coins, small jewelry, beads.

    A step-by-step master class on creating a topiary: video

    Well? Let's try to make a beautiful topiary tree with our own hands today? Well, first of all, you need to figure out what a topiary is. Topiary in the modern sense is a craft that imitates a tree, and just like a tree, it has a trunk, crown and base. Similar designs are various forms and view - both in the shape of a heart, and in the shape of a ball, from flowers, coffee beans, from sisal. How to make such a topiary will be shown in detail in several master classes.

    There are actually a lot of options for Christmas tree topiaries, and they use the same type of basis different materials, due to this, such a variety of this craft was created.

    How to make a festive topiary tree with your own hands step by step

    To create any Christmas tree topiary you will need:

    • hot glue gun
    • The base of the cone is foam, or made independently from thick cardboard
    • Target - wooden skewer, sushi stick or any other suitable stick
    • A pot into which a stick with the tree itself is inserted.
    • Decorative materials from which the topiary will be made.

    simple and available master class c step by step photos see below.

    For work you will need:

    • Half sheet of ordinary paper
    • Foam bottle
    • Wire 4 mm thick and half a meter long
    • Double-sided adhesive tape, thin, foamed will not work; regular tape
    • Pot
    • glue gun
    • Decorative ribbons and decorative elements
    • Sisal (sold in the form of fiber, by weight) at least 200 grams, more can be
    • Base stick (skewer, sushi stick, thick wire)
    • Garland electric (optional)

    Attention! The “Moment Crystal” glue familiar to many craftswomen in working with polystyrene foam and mounting foam and similar materials (fillets, ceiling tiles) - DO NOT! It eats away the styrofoam.

    Most needlewomen take a foam cone as a base, but you can make such a blank from whatman paper and polyurethane foam quickly and easily, and besides, it will cost less. Twist a cone from half of the paper. Trim the bottom edge so that you get an even circle. The resulting circle should be slightly larger than the circumference of the pot.

    Fasten the edges of the drawing paper both outside and inside with adhesive tape - the edges should not bulge and lie away from each other, otherwise the whole look of our Christmas tree will be distorted.

    The cone must be filled with mounting foam from the tip to the middle. To make sure the tip of the cone is filled with foam, use a long nozzle, or a stick. After the cone is filled with mounting foam to the desired height, the tree is set aside to dry in a dry, warm place. Ideally, make the preparation in the evening, and continue in the morning.

    Carefully peel off the paper layer from the dried cone, leaving the foam base, which turned out to be no worse than what is sold in stores. Trim the lower uneven edge so that the cone does not warp when it stands on a flat surface.

    Pot and base. The stick, which will be the trunk of the Christmas tree, needs to be decorated - wrapped with a layer of ribbons, or jute, or floral ribbons. Put it in the center of the pot and blow it with mounting foam. Hold until the foam hardens. Advice. If you run out of mounting foam, and it wasn’t enough for a pot, you can fill it with plaster - cheap material, sold by weight, quickly hardens.

    Christmas tree. Twist a thick piece of wire from one end into a spiral, and stick the straight end into the top of the cone by at least 20 centimeters. Attention! The wire should only be inserted into the cone when the shape and length of the helix is to your satisfaction, because if the wire is not very flexible and you start to correct it already in the foam, the cone may suffer and deform.

    We take double-sided tape and begin to wrap the entire structure with it, starting from the wire spiral to the very bottom, including the horizontal part of the base plane. It is undesirable to leave spaces, and even if there are some irregularities, it's okay.

    If you want your Christmas tree to wink with lights, you will need a small diode garland, but its length must be at least two meters. We wrap the Christmas tree in a spiral with this garland, starting, of course, from the crown. After that, we wind sisal on the base. Strands are easily separated from the sisal fiber bundle, with which the entire surface of the Christmas tree is wrapped - from the crown to the base, including its flat part. Double-sided tape, wound correctly, will fix thin fibers well, and there will be no gaps at all. If your Christmas tree is too “shaggy” and you don’t like it, you can wrap it with decorative gold thread or some other thin elegant thread.

    You can put a lace border along the bottom of the Christmas tree, and attach sequins, beads and other decorative elements of your choice to the cone itself. They are fastened quite firmly with hot glue, even easier - pierced with pins. If your Christmas tree is equipped with a garland, no special decor is needed - and it will be elegant and beautiful.

    Connect the Christmas tree with a pot and a stick. On the base, carefully spread the sisal strands, and stick the stick in the middle of the length of the cone. For reliability, you can fix it with hot glue. Sisal returns to its place.

    We decorate the pot. If there is excess mounting foam, we carefully cut it off, and attach the same sisal fiber to the hot glue - it is quite voluminous and will hide all the bumps and flaws. Alternatively, you can use cotton wool. A couple of decorative elements like a snowflake or Santa's sleigh complete the composition.

    The tree is ready!

    The second version of the sisal Christmas tree-topiary is even simpler, and is also beautiful because all sorts of remnants of sisal can go into work, which you can’t attach to the case, but it’s a pity to throw it away.

    For work you will need:

    • Sisal 200-300 grams, you can different colors, one can
    • glue gun
    • Base-cone (homemade, as in the previous master class, or purchased)

    • Beads and safety pins with beaded tips

    From sisal fiber we roll balls of at least 3 centimeters in diameter. To decorate the lower part, you will need larger balls - 4 centimeters in diameter. But in general, the size of the balls can be arbitrary. A medium-sized Christmas tree will take at least 40 sisal balls.

    Wrap the Christmas tree with balls. We start doing this from the bottom. We glue it on hot glue, straighten the fibers so that there are no empty spaces left. Then we act according to the same principle, we must also plant a ball on the top of the head.

    Decoration. If you have safety pins of the right length, then the easiest decor option is to string a bead on each such pin and stick it into a cone. Both sisal and foam are perfectly pierced, and if you are afraid that such a design will fly back, glue the bottom of the bead.

    The trunk can be decorated with the same sisal fiber, or simply wrapped with thread suitable color. Fix the stem-base in the pot. Depending on what you have at hand - gypsum, or polyurethane foam, strengthen the barrel in the pot. After everything hardens, carefully put the foam Christmas tree cone on the base.

    The tree is ready!

    Master Class. DIY interior decoration for the New Year

    Christmas tree - do-it-yourself topiary

    Tsybanova Galina Anatolyevna, Lecturer, Tver Trade and Economic College
    Purpose: I like to decorate my study room for the New Year.
    But in the computer class, every square centimeter is occupied, so a small Christmas tree-topiary will come in handy. It’s not a shame to give such a tree, you can even put it on festive table.
    Target:
    - develop creative abilities
    - cultivate imagination and fantasy

    Hello, New Year's holiday,
    Christmas tree and winter holiday!
    All my friends today
    We'll invite you to the Christmas tree.

    Shine, Christmas tree lights,
    Call us for a holiday!
    Fulfill all desires
    Make all your dreams come true!

    For work we need:

    1. Materials for the Christmas tree itself:
    A sheet of thick A4 paper (I use drawing paper)
    Aluminum wire 40 cm long
    Styrofoam 8x8 cm
    Lining fabric 10x10 cm
    Green thick threads for the Christmas tree itself and brown for the trunk
    PVA glue
    Glue "Moment"
    Two types of sequins
    Christmas tree beads 50 cm
    Braid for the bottom 30 cm
    Ribbon for bows 30 cm

    2. Materials for the pot:
    A plastic cup
    Building plaster
    Burlap 20x8 cm
    Lining fabric 8x8 cm
    Sintepon 8x8 cm
    Ribbon for decoration 20 cm (2 pcs)
    Candy wrappers (for "gifts")

    3.Tools:
    Scissors
    Ruler
    Pen (or pencil)
    pliers

    Christmas tree making process:

    1. Fold the "bag" from a sheet of paper, adjust its width along the bottom.
    Coat the edges of the paper with PVA glue and press firmly.
    2. Attach a ruler to the top of the cone and measure it in the shortest part
    (this is the maximum possible height of the Christmas tree). Then, holding one end of the ruler
    and gradually turning the cone, make marks of the same length along the entire lower part.

    3. Cut off excess paper with scissors. The base of the tree is ready.

    4. Put the cone on a piece of foam, circle the circle and carefully cut out the bottom.

    5. Prepare the “trunk”: wrap a piece of wire on one side with brown thread
    about 1/4 of its length. (I did not do it right away, so I experienced inconvenience)
    6. top"trunk" pierce the center of the foam circle and insert it
    into a cone so that it protrudes 7-10 cm above the top and bend it with pliers.

    7. Lubricate the bottom on the sides with PVA glue and insert into the lower part of the paper cone.
    Can be additionally stuffed inside the cone wrinkled paper(newspaper) to the cone itself
    did not deform during subsequent manipulations.
    8. Make a hole in a piece of lining fabric 10x10 cm, put it on a wire
    from below and carefully glue with PVA glue to the bottom, covering the entire foam.
    For insurance, you can wrap the edges of the fabric along the bottom of the cone with several turns of thread.
    I wrapped the entire cone with a thin thread lubricated with PVA glue for a better subsequent
    adhesion to the main thread.

    9. Fasten the green thread at the base of the cone, grease the cone
    about 2 cm with PVA glue and wrap tightly with thread so that there are no gaps.
    Then grease and wrap the next 2 cm, etc.
    I did it in such a way that it was more convenient to hold the product and not get my hands dirty.

    Here it is done...

    10. The turn has come to the pot. Prepare the required container:
    if the pot is small, the tree may collapse, and if it is too large, it will be ugly.
    I cut off the yogurt cup.

    The bottom was covered with lining fabric 8x8 cm, glued on PVA.
    The sides were pasted over with burlap. The excess burlap was folded inside the pot.

    11. Then you need to prepare a solution of gypsum, diluting it with water to a pasty state.
    Here I cheated a little: I added a handful of river sand to the finished solution - and I saved gypsum, and the solution turned out to be heavier, which means that the stability of the future product is better.

    The pot must be filled with gypsum mortar almost to the top.
    12. It's time to insert the base of the tree trunk and the center of the pot and tamp the solution around it.
    You can use the blunt end of the pencil, after wrapping it in cellophane.
    The solution will "settle" and there will be a place for "snow". Now we need to leave our product for a couple of hours or until the next day, so that the solution hardens properly.
    I had to put the Christmas tree "in the corner" for preservation.
    Here I was so carried away that I forgot about the camera
    13. Decorate the pot. The junction of the burlap can be sealed with tape.
    Lay a synthetic winterizer around the trunk.
    Glue the braid with Moment glue on top of the pot and around the base.
    Attach bows and sequins if desired.
    Under the Christmas tree - "gifts" of candy wrappers (there are also candy wrappers inside).

    14. The final stage: decorating the Christmas tree itself. Attach tape first
    along the bottom of the cone to further secure the threads and cover up possible flaws.
    Then Christmas tree beads, individual beads, sequins, bows - and everything is glued "Moment"
    (PVA dries for a long time).
    Here is our beauty with her friends from "grass" and "swan's down"

    And two more babies are born :)

    And she herself has already taken pride of place in the computer class and reminds my students that the New Year is coming soon and it's time to take tests

    P.S. Thank you for your attention.
    This is my first masterclass. Lots of work, lots of ideas.
    I already see my mistakes and lack of photos, I promise to improve
