DIY wallet sizes. How to sew a wallet easily and quickly. Materials and tools

Mammalogy

Leather is a noble and very expensive material. This wallet model is very simple, so you do not need to have a special skill, your diligence and perseverance are enough.

Such a wallet can be sewn from a small rectangle of leather, for example, a favorite but outdated bag.

To make a handbag we need:
1. Handbag templates.
2. Genuine or artificial leather. You can take suede.
3. Needles, thick synthetic threads.
4. Stationery knife.
5.Glue.
6.Awl or special punches for thread holes.
7. Clothes rivets.
8. Lighter.
9.Printer.
10. Punchers, hammer.

Wallet patterns:

To get started, print the handbag templates on paper, it is better to make several copies. Depending on the size of the handbag, the templates can be enlarged or reduced, just keep in mind that there are several templates and you need to scale them proportionally. Using paper templates, cut out templates from leather.
Using paper templates, we make folds on leather blanks.

The bold line on the template marks the seam line along which the leather blanks will be connected into a single whole.
Along the line of the seam, using an awl or special punches and a hammer, we make holes on the leather blanks.

Then we combine and sew the leather blanks together with the help of threads and a needle.

We insert rivets into the leather templates, the installation locations are marked on the paper template. It must be done very precisely and accurately. For tear strength, we insert rivets into the body of the bag through an additional piece of leather.

Now we assemble the handbag along the folds, according to the template, close it, check for correct assembly.
The last step is the seams on the side folds of the handbag, they are made somewhere up to the middle of the side, complete them and the handbag is ready. Try it. you will succeed, such a handmade handbag will not be an extra accessory for your everyday life. This is what the wallet looks like:

So for work you will need tools, threads and leather.

Another wallet option:

In the finished version, you will receive a simple and practical wallet. It will be possible not only to carry it with you in your purse, but also on your belt or even your neck.

Step by step master class.

To do this, it is not at all necessary to purchase a piece of leather in a store; at first, it is recommended to use things that have served their purpose for a long time. For example, a bag, gloves, boot tops, etc. You will need: a piece of leather, glue, a needle, strong thread (you can choose a contrasting color), a thimble, two metal rings and a metal button.

1. Increase the indicated pattern to required sizes, print it out and then cut it out.

2. On the wrong side of the piece of leather, transfer finished pattern- circle the drawing with a pen and cut it out, be sure to leave a few millimeters of allowance.

3. The resulting part must be bent in half (face to face) and stitched from the first to the second point "A", in this case you will sew the side, as well as the bottom of the wallet. Now repeat this action on the other side to flash side part between points "B". Sewing leather is not easy, so use a thimble, it will greatly speed up and make your task easier.

But if making wallets is tedious for you, or they seem bulky and large, consider money clips. This is a stylish and convenient way to carry bills.

4. When you completely sew the sides, you need to turn it on the front side, and then sew two metal buckles (rings) on the sides. It's not just a decoration, you can attach a handle to these little details to make it more convenient to carry if you don't have a bag at hand.

5. Now you need to make a belt. To do this, take a piece and cut into six long narrow strips. Then you should pass three pieces through the metal ring and start weaving the pigtails, make the length of the handle at your discretion. Now repeat the action and make the second handle. This part of your accessory will look more original if you choose leather of different colors. You can fix the ends with a regular paper clip.

And that's a long time ago. The wallet will have to be done long and hard, having previously bought and prepared correct skin. To create this homemade product, we will need a lot of tools that you will get acquainted with in the photo instructions and my description.
You can always carry the created leather wallet with you, store money and even business cards in it. I wanted to create a rectangular, oblong wallet, but you can choose any size you want. I chose light brown leather and metal studs. If you do everything right, then you can make a lot of these wallets, and especially you can use them as gifts.

How to make a leather wallet with your own hands.

Here's what we need:

Sewing machine;
piece of leather;
Rulers various lengths;
Curly ruler (in our case, these are circles);
Glue moment;
Scissors, preferably more;
Awl;
Leather cutter;

Everything is shown in the photo. All tools.

Previously, from paper, I cut out the patterns of all the parts that we need.

We put the patterns compactly on a piece of leather, so as to use the space to the maximum.

They circled the patterns with an awl and proceed to cutting them out.

With a regular retractable blade, cut out a window in the main part.

The first step is ready, it was the easiest, now it will be a little more difficult.

Round off the corners on these cut out parts.

We take a moment of glue and spread it on the main part from below, as shown in the photo.

We bend the edge and press it down with something heavy, so that it sticks better. But initially we iron it with a roller.

We put the snake in the cut out window. It is advisable to choose a high-quality snake, as if it breaks and constantly diverges, then it will be very difficult to replace it later. Buy it with big teeth.

Under the snake we make the usual embossing, this will decorate the leather wallet and make it branded and exclusive.

We measure 7-9 centimeters from the edge of the main part and glue the pockets. We need them for business cards.

We take two leather strips and glue them together. By the time the glue dries it should go long time, so you immediately glue the necessary parts together and relax a bit.

When the glue is applied, we immediately iron it with a roller so that the skin is leveled and not stubby.

Under the ruler, we cut off the edge that was a little uneven.

On the edge of the leather strip, we make a rounding. To do this, take a curly ruler and large scissors.

Now is a very important moment. We take our wallet details and go to the sewing machine, sew the snake, then the edge under the pocket for business cards, the pocket itself and at the end the clasp for the wallet.

Now we glue the second not wide strip of leather for pockets for business cards. We draw it into two parts, I suggest taking one standard card or business card and trying it on so that you do not make the pockets too small. And then we stretch.

We make a small markup where there will be bends, and fold the two parts for bills. We put on clips to highlight the stripes.

Fold the wallet in half and try on the clasp. This is how it will be.

With an awl we make marks where the rivets will be.

Same with the other side of the wallet.

We make not very large holes with a hammer or with such tongs as shown in the photo.

We take a small manual press and make accessories with it.

Here's what we got at the beginning.

Then we take a separate piece of skin and completely lubricate it with a moment, this is necessary to strengthen the wallet.

We wrap the skin in the part where the zipper is. Further it will be a large pocket where to store a trifle. Don't forget to use a roller.

From the side where the pockets for the cards, I glue both sides and fasten with clips.

We also glue and clamp it on the other side. We are waiting for a certain time until the glue dries.

Again, we make lines, on a sewing machine, for beauty and reliability.

We cut off the extra edges completely, just do not touch the threads.

We make holes at the corners with a hammer and a punch to insert rivets there, they will look beautiful there and further strengthen the leather wallet with their own hands.

Again, we install the fittings with a press.

If there is a rubber mallet, then you should tap a little on the skin so that it is softer and the corners become more accurate and refined, so to speak natural.

Here is a wallet we made of leather with our own hands. See photos of the wallet from all sides.

Now you can use the wallet or give it to someone for the holiday. Then you can continue to do such things in various sizes or take the skin of a different color.
Together with the wallet, you can do or and be completely exclusive.

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of making a DIY men's leather wallet. This is something that I have been working on for several months and in the process I have enjoyed a lot. I have created various versions of the wallet and now I have reached perfection. It's cute and small (fits well in the horribly small pockets of women's jeans), but still holds a few cards and cash.

In this tutorial, we will walk you through the entire process of making a leather wallet. This is something that I have been working on for several months and in the process I have enjoyed a lot. I have created various versions of the wallet and now I have reached perfection. It's cute and small (fits well in the horribly small pockets of women's jeans), but still holds a few cards and cash.

I included three different options in the instructions - one with straight pockets and two with slanted ones. The wallet holds 8 cards and some rolled cash - great for everyday use.

In the process of creating, you will learn a lot about working with leather. I am attaching links to Tandy, if they turned out to be non-working, then just search the site and find similar products.

Step 1: Tools and Materials

Below is a list of what will help you create a wallet, with links to where I bought these things:

  • thick vegetable tanned leather 300-400 grams per m2
  • sketch of a men's leather wallet (attached in the next step)
  • leather clip (optional, but incredibly useful!)
  • jojoba or other skin oil
  • scalpel
  • ruler
  • rubber mallet
  • spray
  • small piece of cardboard
  • small clamps
  • fine-grained sandpaper

You will also need paper and rag towels. I know it's a long list, but you can do so many interesting things with it that you won't be able to keep it.

Step 2: Select and cut out the sketch

I have attached 3 sketches in PDF format. Choose the one you like and carefully cut it out of the skin with a ruler and a scalpel. Lightly moisten the skin section with oil.

Files

Step 3: Polish the Short Edges

You will need to polish the two short edges of the wallet as they will be very difficult to get close to after gluing and stitching.

First, apply a little oil to the edges, if they are dry, then it will be very difficult to achieve a pleasant gloss. Apply some tragacanth resin to the edge, let it stick, and start running the polisher over it. Repeat the process until the edges are slightly darkened and rounded.

Step 4: Fold the Edges

Mark the fold lines on the leather on the inside. Moisten the fold lines a small amount water and bend the skin along the lines, securing it with clips. Work carefully as this step is very important and must be done accurately.

When pinching the skin, I use clippings old skin- they prevent the wallet from damage and dents.

Let the skin dry and check what you got. If the edges don't fit perfectly, moisten them with water and tap the fold with a hammer to help smooth out the fold.

Step 5: Create the middle fold

Wet the leather along the center fold line and carefully fold it in half - check that all the edges come together. I prefer to secure this inversion in a clamp.

Step 6: Draw an indentation at the seam

I traced the stitching line with a groover. For best results, take your time and work on dry skin.

Step 7: Tape the pockets

Take tape or paper and use it as a guide to apply the glue, protecting the places where the glue should not be. Apply glue along the edges of the inside of the wallet and pinch or press down on the areas to be glued until the glue dries.

Step 8: Punch Holes in the Inner Pockets

I use a diamond chisel - it makes very neat holes. Lightly wet the skin and wait until it is almost dry, then go over it with a chisel and make holes.

Step 9: Use an awl to make the outer holes.

Lay the wallet on the cardboard, outside up. Take a sharp awl and go through all the fresh holes. The awl must be strictly vertical, do not make any corners, or the holes inside the wallet will turn out to be crooked.

On the outside of the wallet, you will have a line of small holes.

Step 10: Making a Groove on the Outside of the Wallet

Using the holes as guides, make a groove on the outside of the wallet.

Lightly wet the skin and let it dry almost completely, then take a special chisel and make an indentation in the skin.

After that, you can once again go through the holes with an awl and make sure they are in good condition.

Step 11: Oil the Wallet

It is very important to moisten the skin with oil before stitching, because the wax on the thread can cause oil absorption problems in the future.

Take an old piece of fabric and apply a couple of coats of oil to the outer layer of the skin. Pay attention to the recesses with holes - now is your last chance to lubricate them properly. I love jojoba oil - it's odorless and has a 5 year shelf life, which means it won't go rancid in your pocket.

Use tragacanth resin to polish the edges of the wallet as you did before. If the edges of the bag are dry, don't forget to apply some jojoba oil to them.

After polishing, the edges of the wallet should be neat and smooth.

Step 15: Oil again and you're done!

After stitching and polishing, lubricate the leather wallet again with a little oil and it's ready!

How to make a rubber band wallet: diagram

Best for this wallet bright elastic bands different colors (200 elastic bands of one color and 175 elastic bands of another color). It is very functional, comfortable, fastens with a large button, and at any time you can use your savings.

Using machine, you can make such beauty while enjoying the process itself, and if something didn’t work out, you can easily redo it, which is impossible to do when working with fabric. The open sides of the columns of the near row should look to the right side, and the far side - to the left:

  • Choose your favorite color for the bottom of the wallet.
  • Throw on an elastic band using a hook from the first column of the middle row for 2 tbsp. second row.
  • Repeat the other row in the same way only in the opposite direction (in the end, you should get the letter X).

  • In order to move on to the next step of weaving, carefully put elastic bands on each pair of sts. and repeat this until the end of the row. It's not difficult at all.
  • Then pick up the lower elastic bands on each column, and without pulling too hard, remove it inside the product.
  • Do not be afraid that the wallet will unravel, the weaving is very dense, and they are well intertwined.
  • Repeat the pattern from the beginning until you have completed 14 rows. There is nothing complicated in it, even beginners can handle it.

  • After this stage, smoothly move on to weaving the fastener, which consists of 12 rows of the far edge.
  • For the button, you need to make a hole to easily open and close the accessory. To do this, find the middle and from the central st. remove the gum, and throw it on st. to the left.
  • Upon reaching the central station. Put on the elastic in the shape of a figure of eight and then continue with the usual pattern to the end of the row.

  • To complete a stylish wallet, simply take the elastic band from the far right st. and throw it on the st., which is located to the left, then take the same elastic band, grab the two lower elastic bands from the inside and throw it on the column to the left, repeat until the end of the row.

Do the following:

  • Then glue the stiffening ribs on the details of the upper part and bend the edges nicely.
  • It remains to carefully sew the clasp and the accessory is ready.
  • To connect all the parts in one product, you need to make a delay for the future seam - without a thread.

How to clean a leather wallet?

In order to restore a leather product, before proceeding with the procedure, hold it in a dry room at a temperature not lower than 25 ° C:

  • Take warm water (300 - 400 ml).
  • Add soap, stir well until a light soapy solution forms.
  • Pour in a spoonful of ammonia.

If the product is clean, you can use these oils to maintain its perfect appearance and increase its useful life. If your wallet dark colors , then you can gently wipe it with a cloth soaked in advance in ground coffee beans.

Then carefully, removing the remnants of this thick from the surface of the product, dry soft cloth wipe again, and then apply a thin layer of the previously mentioned oil. Take care of things, take care of them, because you have invested all your soul and love in them, and they will delight and bring you pleasure!

It is difficult to find a beautiful, high-quality and convenient wallet made of genuine leather for storing money, and it is so expensive.

Therefore, I decided not to spend money and sew a leather wallet for money from improvised material with my own hands. What happened as a result you can see in the photo.

All bootlegs from worn women's leather boots I usually cut off and store for further making homemade products from them. It is easy to make shoe covers, slippers or a cover for any gadget from genuine leather. This time a purse was sewn from the top.

The choice of sizes and drawings of wallet patterns

First of all, it was necessary to determine the size of the wallet based on the size of the largest banknote, and make patterns out of paper. Banknotes of 1000 and 5000 rubles have the same dimensions 69 × 157 mm. The rest of the dignity of a smaller size.

Thus, the width of the compartment for paper notes, taking into account their possible number and the seam allowance of 6 mm, must be at least 172 mm. As a result, the size of the wallet turned out to be 80 × 172 mm. Based on these data, patterns were made from thick paper.

After opening the seam and removing the inner fur lining, a flat sheet of natural leather was obtained. To determine the sufficiency of the size of the leather plate for making a purse, the patterns were laid out on it. Luckily, the sheet of leather from the top turned out to be of sufficient size so as not to engage in additional sewing.

How to smooth natural skin

The skin from the tops of the boots was undulating in places, and a general bending of the entire surface of the plate was observed. Therefore, before cutting, it was required to smooth it out. The easiest and fastest way to perform this operation is with an iron for ironing clothes.

The plate was placed skin side up on a flat surface of a table covered with a thick cloth. From above the skin was covered with cotton cloth. Using a sprayer, the fabric was slightly moistened with water.

The iron setting has been set to maximum heat. When the iron was hot, the leather was ironed over the entire surface by applying and lifting the iron without moving across the plane. The essence of smoothing is a slight moisturizing and pressing down of the skin, which leads to its straightening.

After smoothing with an iron, as can be seen in the photo, the waves disappeared on the sheet of leather, and it became flat, ready for further work. It remains to let it rest for a few hours, so that moisture evaporates from the skin, and it takes on a natural shape. When moisturized, the skin slightly increases in size.

Marking and cutting leather for a homemade wallet

When the skin plate has dried up, you can start marking it out according to the pattern, and cutting out the details for making a wallet.

For marking, you need to lay out the patterns on the surface of the skin and circle them around the perimeter with a ruler using an alcohol felt-tip pen.

You can cut genuine leather with a scalpel or stationery knife. To do this, you need to firmly press the metal ruler, oriented along the marking lines, and draw a knife blade along it with sufficient force. To prevent the knife from dulling under the skin, you need to put a soft material, such as corrugated cardboard or several newspapers. If you have not had to cut the skin before, then it is better to first practice on an unnecessary section of the plate.

How to sew a leather wallet by hand

Since the design of the wallet consists of two sections sewn together, the space between the sections was used to create a pocket for storing plastic cards.

The dimensions of a standard plastic card are 54×86×1 mm. The size of the pocket was chosen based on the possibility of placing up to 6 cards in it and was made taking into account the seam allowance of 60 × 100 mm.

Further along the seam marking line with reverse side skin was applied glue "Moment". Glue is needed only for the convenience of sewing, and in this case it can be used by anyone, since the skin will be later sewn with threads.

In order for a seam to be obtained with an equal length of stitches during manual sewing, it was marked with a ruler and a felt-tip pen in increments of 5 mm.

In order for the needle to easily pass through the skin, it was drilled at the marking points with a mini drill with a drill with a diameter of 1 mm. Instead of a drill, you can use an awl or a special line punch for leather.

You can sew with any thread - linen twisted (its waxing is required), polyester (kapron) or lavsan. I chose a kapron thread, black. It is elastic, strong, durable and melts easily, which allows you to securely fasten the ends of the threads in knots. Any needle will do.

I sewed with a double thread through one stitch in one direction and back. To prevent the thread from getting tangled, you need to press it with your finger from the side where the needle is inserted.

The wallet compartment for cards is ready. You can put cards in it and see how they are placed. Over time, the skin will take the desired shape and it will be convenient to take out the cards and put them back in. If desired, you can make round cutouts on the sides to make it more convenient.

You need to start the firmware by bringing the thread between the folds of the skin and finish with a double stitch with the output of the second end also between the folds of the skin.

At the last step, the knot is smeared with glue and, using a narrow screwdriver blade, is tucked into the crease between the skin plates.

Snap button installation

The button fastener at the wallet serves not only to fix the valve, but also is an element of decoration. Therefore, a button with a fixing annular spring was chosen. It works softer and has relatively large overall dimensions.

The set of one button includes four parts, which are shown in the photo. Two of them are fixed by riveting on one of the fastened surfaces, and the second pair - on the other.

The following tool is required to install the fastener button: - a hammer, a punch and tools - a bit for riveting and a support hemisphere. If there is no punch, then you can put the skin, for example, on a piece of wood, install the part of the button with sharp edges (top in the photo) in the right place and lightly hit it with a hammer.

The fastener button is installed on the wallet and its operation has been checked. The photo shows a hand-sewn women's wallet. If desired, according to your taste, you can paint over the ends of the skin with a felt-tip pen of the desired color and apply a drawing with an electric squeezer or embossing.

This is how a do-it-yourself wallet made of genuine leather looks like, filled with banknotes, plastic cards and small change. As you can see, due to the simplicity of the design, any home craftsman can sew such a wallet in a couple of hours.
