Many are interested not only in what can be done from cobblestone, but also what kind of stone is better to use for crafts. Natural is preferred because of its unusual beauty. It is not just that many designers use only natural boulders to create unusual interiors.

Stone flowers

From below, the stone must be designed so that it looks like a basket made of branches. Then they paint different flowers. You can depict scarlet roses, large poppies or original pansies. The main thing is that the surface of the stone is not visible from under the drawing. To give the composition a shine, you can varnish the dried paint.

Fancy rugs

Pebbles are perfect for making a rug that can be used to decorate any interior... It can also be used instead of a massager. Then the craft will have a healing effect for a person, foot massage is considered especially useful.

  • Easy to handle;
  • Great profitability.

However, there are also disadvantages, including a significant level of surface wiping. But this only matters when this material is used to form garden paths. After some time, the coating on the material loses color when exposed to sunlight.

Artificial stone is perfect for making original compositions in the garden.

It is required to comply with easy, but important conditions:

  • The composition must be positioned relative to one point of view.
  • It is necessary to observe the contrast between emptiness and fullness. In the design of the site, asymmetry should be clearly expressed. Professionals in Japan also take into account the reflection of objects in the water and the shadows cast by them.
  • The number of items in the composition must be odd. According to the classics, the composition is based on a regular heptagon.
  • It is also necessary to align the longitudinal and vertical lines of the composition. More boulders with longitudinal orientation are required, since there are already plenty of vertical objects in the garden: trees, a fence, a house, etc.

Applying these rules, it is possible to make a dry trickle on the site or arrange a natural small pond. Small waterfalls or fountains look great. Forming the walls for support, it is possible to decorate the courtyard of your site, this solution will be relevant for summer cottages located on the mountain.

Types of stone crafts

Hand-made stone crafts exist in several forms, depending on the technique of execution. So, the following techniques for working with stone are currently used:

  • stone painting;
  • mosaic;
  • stone cutting.

Painting on a stone is done with paints that fit well on its surface. It can be both acrylic paints and enamels. In this way, you can arrange both fairly large objects and hand-made stone crafts for children. Painted stones are a great accessory and can also serve as a gift or an element of landscape design. For example, with their help, you can arrange a fabulous corner on the site, where you can arrange painted stone figures representing certain fabulous characters.

The mosaic technique consists in the selection of stones by color and gluing them on a solid basis. As a result, it is possible in this way to create various colored panels, graphic elements and real paintings. In this case, you can take shells, pebbles, multi-colored rubble as a material. In addition to creating the mosaic itself, this method can be used to decorate flower pots and other elements of the decoration of the room.

If we consider crafts from small stones, made by hand, such a method of processing as cutting is excellent for working with them. Stone carving can be used to make small figures such as netsuke. In addition, if you have soft rock at your disposal, it is quite suitable for creating a real sculpture. Such figures can perfectly fit into the interior of your suburban area, and if you wish, then it is quite possible for them to find a place inside your home.

There are other methods and techniques for working with this material, for example, it can be used as an auxiliary material for beading or creating jewelry. As for the simplest crafts, for example, bracelets or necklaces, you can easily make them without having any special knowledge of stone processing techniques. To do this, using a drill, it is quite enough to drill the soft rocks you need and string them onto a silicone thread or wire.

Stone crafts with children

Children can also make crafts from stones with their own hands. For them, this will not only be great fun, but also give them the opportunity to do things that are useful to them on their own. So, for example, you can paint stones with children. That being said, your best bet is to use acrylic paints and gouache.

Attention! Usually, sea or river pebbles are painted, as they have a smooth surface.

You can paint as one stone, or several. If you paint 1 pebble, it can be a great gift, or it can be used as a single decorative element when decorating a child's room.

In the same case, when you paint a group of stones, you can create some composition from them. So, for example, among children, cacti are very popular, which can be made from pebbles of a rounded and oblong shape by painting it in green color and attaching it to match needles using plasticine. Such cacti will look spectacular in a pot decorated with colored rubble or granite chips.

With children, you can make various applications using stones

In addition, various small stone mosaics can be performed with children. To do this, it is enough to have multi-colored small pebbles and PVC glue available. Next, you simply select the pebbles by color, and glue them on the same colored paper, plywood or wood. As a result, very unusual paintings can be created from pebbles, and if you add other materials to it, you get original panel created in the genre of naive art.

Crafts from a stone for a garden

If you want to make DIY stone crafts for the garden, then you will have a whole sea of possibilities for this. So, one of the common areas of use of stone in the garden is the manufacture of a wide variety of decorative figures. They have a purely aesthetic function, but some figures can serve, for example, as a flower garden. To do this, you can lay out a turtle from suitable boulders, the shell of which will serve you as a flower garden.

The second common way to do various homemade products in the garden are crafts made from sea stones, folded with their own hands in the form of garden paths or places for rest. There is no particular difficulty in making them, since for this you just need to level a suitable platform and lay the stone you have selected on the ground.

A flowerbed in the form of a castle using stones will look great in the garden.

Attention! With the help of stones, you can decorate artificial reservoirs located in the summer cottage and garden area.

In this case, you can make crafts from sea stones with your own hands if you study the corresponding photos posted on sites dedicated to landscape design. Usually, they consider options for decorating the side, as well as the bottom of such reservoirs. They can be decorated various figures, as well as just beautiful pebbles and boulders.

The fourth option for using this building material in the garden is landscape design. So, not only flower beds and flowerpots are made from stones, but also alpine slides and multi-level terraces are made. Also, with their help, you can divide the site into several work areas, highlighting, for example, a recreation area. By the way, the brazier can also be made of stone, placing boulders in a special way.

Unusual ways to use stone in decor

There are also unusual ways decorating rooms with stone. So, for example, large pieces of rock or pebbles can be used as decoration for furniture handles and doors, just stick them on the handle with PVC glue or fix them through the drilled hole with a self-tapping screw. You can decorate walls or mirrors in the same way.

If you decide to decorate the shoe rack in this way, then this can be done even easier. You simply take a shallow plastic or metal container that is the size of your intended shoe rack, put soil in it, and on top of it there are stones, such as rubble. Such a stand will not only look unusual, but will also allow your shoes to dry quickly after rain, as all the moisture from them will go through the ground.

Roughly the same craft can be done in order to equip the entrance to your house. To do this, you will need to take a regular silicone mat and stick even pebbles on it. The result is a stone rug that will also allow unnecessary water to drain off your porch and trap dirt so it won't get inside your home.

But not all of us are fans of modern abstract art. But you can easily make garden crafts in a classic style.

But since you are not a sculptor yet, you need a template - it could very well be an old doll.

Because it will be not just a decorative garden figurine, but a flower garden in the form of a girl's head, then upper part need to be cut.

Then the head is painted. In order to give the texture, the template is painted first with a dark gray paint. Allow to dry and apply a layer of lighter paint. After drying, a layer of even lighter paint is applied with light strokes.

This is a very simple process, and all the examples of this style that you see in the article were made by teenagers in a labor lesson.

By the way, we can also make it from cement. cut the angel's wings out of foam, attach it to the doll with hot glue. Give the doll a new dress and, with the help of hot glue strokes, create a more interesting texture on the wings and hair.

We coat our template with a solution of cement and gypsum. We paint.

Now, with the help of old toys, you can make almost any garden figurine yourself.

Flowerbed cat.

This funny cat flower bed is made of a plastic bottle and cement. We will need: cement, sand, plaster, water, a large plastic bottle, wire, paint, wooden slats, varnish.

The owner of this cat, Natasha Koneva, will tell us how to make such a funny figure with our own hands. Trimming plastic bottle- it is this container that will be our flower garden. To prevent the cement from slipping off the plastic, we wrap it tightly with wire. We knock down a wooden frame from the rails. We attach our plastic container to it.

We mix the cement mortar with the consistency of thick sour cream at the rate of 1 part of sand, 1 part of cement. We will add gypsum only to the finished portion, which is in our hand, because the gypsum solution hardens instantly. We work in rubber gloves.

We take a handful of solution in our hand and add a tablespoon of gypsum to it. We knead it in our hands, roll it up with sausage and attach it to the frame. So step by step we put portions of the solution on top of each other, creating the necessary bulges and smoothing the surface.

We sculpt the face of our cat from small balls of solution in much the same way as we sculpted from plasticine in childhood. In order for small parts to hold better, before attaching them to the body, we lubricate the surface of the figure with water.

With a damp hand, polish the surface of our garden figurine. To dry, cover the figurine with cellophane for 3-4 days. On the first day, the figure must be periodically additionally moistened with water. After drying, sand the surface with sandpaper.

You can paint such a figure with water-based paint, enamel, car paints. After painting, we cover the surface with varnish. For the winter, the garden figurine must be removed from the street, because it can crack from frost. Perhaps you also want to get yourself such a wonderful cat.
The great thing about cement figurines is that they are cheap to make compared to metal or wood garden figurines. You can start with simple crafts for the garden, which can be no less interesting than some particularly complex ones. You will have to use a portable box to fit necessary materials and tools.

Safety precautions should be given special attention, especially if children are involved in the work:

Work Precautionary measures

Preparation of seashells and stones

It is enough to rinse the pebbles with boiling water, and it is ready to work. You will have to work hard with shells.

The first thing is cleaning:

  • It is enough to soak "dead" shells for half an hour in a chlorine-containing agent diluted with an equal part of water;
  • too dirty shells are soaked longer, then they are cleaned with a brush, rinsed in water;
  • "Live", in which there are remains of mollusks, because of which they emit a disgusting smell, it is necessary to clean it especially diligently. Boil for 5 minutes. will allow you to easily remove the remains of shellfish with tongs or nail scissors, after which the shells should be treated with a chlorine-containing agent.

Some crafts require a hole to be drilled. The main thing is that cracks do not appear on the shell, or it does not delaminate at the point of drilling. It is recommended to pre-glue the shell with masking tape, put it on a flat surface and put a mark on the inside.

The hole in it can be done in two ways:

  1. Manual... If there is no screwdriver or drill, then there is a nail and a hammer. A nail is carefully placed on the mark and tapped with a hammer until the initial hole is formed. Expand it to the desired diameter, making translational movements inside the hole with the same nail.
  2. Automated(with a drill or screwdriver). You will need a drill with a diameter not exceeding 0.8 - 2 mm. If you drill a hole with tape, the shell will not be damaged.

How to remove chips and cracks in shells and stones?

The treated shells should be carefully inspected to ensure they are not chipped or cracked. It is quite difficult to find perfect shells without such damage.

To polish the surface of shells, you can use:

  • sandpaper;
  • bar;
  • disk.

The lacquer coating will hide even invisible cracks and give the material a shine.
