Do-it-yourself kanzashi rose

1. KANZASHI FLOWER IS A GREAT GIFT, ELEGANT HAIR DECORATION

The passion for making things with your own hands is becoming more and more popular every day. Someone is engaged in handmade (in common parlance - needlework) for the soul, someone makes a business out of it. But everyone has one goal - to please themselves and others with beautiful things.

Try and you to touch the beauty, having mastered the technique of kanzashi. To be more precise, this art is called Tsumami kanzashi. It originated in Japan over 400 years ago. In the country rising sun this technique is not just handicraft. This is a part of a culture that they are proud of and that many countries are trying to master.

A small excursion into history

Many, many years ago, Japanese women were carried away by complex hairstyles, the creation of which required various sticks and combs. But what woman wants to wear a simple piece of wood on her head?

There are no such ladies. I had to come up with decorations. The Japanese are smart people, and besides, thrifty. By combining these two qualities, or rather, the skills in creating origami and using the remains of fabric, they received an excellent decoration.

Using small pieces of silk and only two ways of how they can be folded, they got real masterpieces in the form of beautiful flowers. Few people know, but such a decoration was used not only for beauty, but also as an indicator social status women, is she married and how many children she has.

V modern world Japanese women wear kanzashi only on rare occasions if they have to wear a kimono or as a wedding decoration due to their occupation.

Art continues to live

Fortunately, gorgeous ribbon flower fantasies have gained popularity among modern fashionistas. Now this beauty can be seen as decoration of hair accessories or in the form of paintings. And the main thing is that now the kanzashi technique is available not only to Japanese women.

It's not that hard

For novice needlewomen, creating flowers using the kanzashi technique may seem like overwhelming work, they look so impressive. In fact, everything is much easier. The most important thing is to learn how to create the flower itself. To do this, you need to master two methods. The first is to fold a flower with rounded ends, the second - with pointed or oblong leaves. On the basis of these blanks, the necessary compositions are compiled.

Try to make one flower and you won't notice how you get a large hairpin or headband.

What you need to work

  1. Of course, the main thing we need is ribbons or pieces of fabric. The material itself does not matter, it all depends on what you want to get in the end. A satin ribbon product looks very impressive, but if you need to decorate a felt hat, then such flowers will not quite come in handy.
  2. Sharp scissors, needle and thread to match the fabric.
  3. Fast setting adhesive, preferably transparent.
  4. Tweezers. Since the blanks for flowers are very small and constantly slide, it is inconvenient to hold them with your hands, so you cannot do without a clamp.
  5. Fire source. This refers to matches or a lighter to burn the ends of the tape. It is very convenient to use a candle, since it does not need to be constantly lit, and both hands are free during operation.
  6. Various beads, pebbles to decorate the middle of the flower.

As you can see, not much material is needed to create a beautiful piece. The only thing left is to learn how to make beautiful flowers from ribbons.

First lesson

As already mentioned, the kanzashi technique is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Let's make sure of this using the example of making a marvelous rose.

Such a flower can also be used as an independent element, for example, as an elastic band for hair or as a component of a decorative panel.

We need a tape 2.5 cm wide, a regular thread to match the fabric, and a needle. In order to make it more convenient to work, choose a material that is not too slippery, otherwise the edges of the workpieces will constantly shift.

Let's get down to the process

  1. Cut the tape into 9 strips (6 centimeters each). Using the fire of a candle or lighter, carefully burn the edges.
  2. We thread the needle and tie a neat knot. Place the right side of the tape in front of you on the table. First, take the top right edge and fold it down until it forms a straight line with the bottom edge. We do the same with the left side of the line. Now we take a thread with a needle and sew the base with a neat stitch. Thus, you should have a triangle with a semicircular top.
  3. Pull the thread slightly and secure. In this simple way, get the first petal.
  4. We continue to work in the same way, and as a result we get nine volumetric blanks for our flower.
  5. Now let's start making the core. We take the tape and again turn it with the wrong side towards us. We bend the upper corner and at the same time begin to fold the tape several turns from the bottom. It turns out a small roller. We make the last turn weaker, having previously bent the upper corner inward.
  6. We fix the base of the flower core with a thread.
  7. Now the next step is to assemble the flower. To do this, you need to sew all the prepared petals around the core. To make the flower look more natural, try to sew the petals so that they do not cover each other.
  8. That's all, the rose using the kanzashi technique is ready. There is a small touch left. To make the work look complete, cut a circle out of the tape and burn the edges. We glue this blank with back side flower to hide all the seams.

As you can see, the kanzashi technique for beginners is not that difficult.

Now it all depends on your imagination. You can attach a rose to a hairpin or headband. It will also look very beautiful as a decoration on clothes.

If the flower seems small, increase the number of petals or use a wider ribbon.

Crafts with rounded petals

How much beauty can be created when the kanzashi technique is mastered! A master class on making flowers from ribbons is a confirmation of this. Of course, the rose is the queen of flowers, but without other representatives of the flora it will be boring. Very cute crafts are made with rounded edges.

  1. To make them, we need 5 circles with a diameter of approximately 5.5 cm. Choose the fabric at your discretion, but for the first works it is better to stop at non-slip material.
  2. Fold the circle in half with the seamy side inward and, stepping back from the edge about 3 mm, make stitches along the entire cut with thread to match the fabric.
  3. We tighten the fabric tightly on the thread and, without cutting it, sew on the next petal.
  4. We do the same with the remaining circles. As a result, we got five petals on one strand. We tighten them again and make a knot. The thread can now be cut. Decorate the middle of the flower to your liking. It can be a beautiful bead or a textile button of a suitable color.

Another option

Flowers using the kanzashi technique can be made not only with round petals. They look very nice and pointed.

Try making a flower this way, but with a little complication, so that you end up with a narrow double leaf. This work will take a little longer, but the result will be worth it.

The resulting flower looks especially impressive on headbands or headbands. Skillfully choosing the shades of the ribbons, you can create an accessory that will complement your wardrobe.

The kanzashi technique for our flower involves two assembly methods.

First option

We will need:

  • The ribbons are 0.5 cm long and 5 cm wide.
  • Tweezers.
  • Pin.
  • Decoration for the middle.

The material of the tape and its color depend only on your taste.

Match a beautiful bead and frame to decorate the center piece.

If you plan to use the flower as a decoration for your hair, for example, to make hairpins using the kanzashi technique, you will also need quick fix transparent glue (ideal, a glue gun - it dries quickly, is easy to use) and a special base for such accessories. Now you can get to work:

  1. From the tapes, you need to cut the required paired number of squares. It all depends on how many petals there will be.
  2. We make a triangle from the resulting square. For convenience, you can hold the corner with tweezers.
  3. We repeat this procedure again and secure the workpiece with a safety pin.
  4. We perform the same actions with a square of a different color. Thus, you should end up with two triangles.
  5. Now decide what color of the product will be the main one, and, based on this, superimpose the triangle one on top of the other. For example, put the main red first, and white on it. In this case, the triangle, which turned out to be below, should look out a little from under the upper one (by about 2-3 mm).
  6. Remove the pins and fold them again so that the bottom corners coincide and the main color is outside.
  7. We hold with tweezers face blanks, and cut the back one neatly and evenly. After that, we burn the edges. While they are still hot, squeeze tightly.
  8. In this way, we make the required number of petals and connect them into a flower using thread or glue.

Agree, creating kanzashi flowers is a very exciting experience. Let's learn another way.

Second option

This kanzashi technique is a little more complicated, since the material is quite slippery, so you can't do without the help of tweezers:

  1. It is necessary to make triangles from two squares and fold them in the following way: we put the blanks one on top of the other so that the cut edges are on the bottom and sides, and at the fold - on top.
  2. Now we bend one edge of the triangle backward, the other forward, as if crossing them. The result is a blank with multi-colored sides.
  3. We fold it again into a triangle with the main color outward.
  4. We process the back in the same way as in the first method.

Using any method you like, you can create many kanzashi colors of different colors and shapes. But how you use them depends on your imagination. Someone will focus on accessories, and someone will go further and master more sophisticated technique... One thing we can say for sure: having learned how to make kanzashi from ribbons, you will not be tormented by the question of gifts for friends and loved ones.

Lovely swan

By the way, about the presentations. Surely, after receiving an invitation to a solemn event, many begin to be tormented by the question of what to give.

They are tired of banal crafts, there is not enough money for expensive things. There is a way out - make a gift with your own hands. Let's not waste time on trifles and create a king of birds - a white swan. It's not that hard to do it. The result is incredible beautiful thing, and most importantly, no one else will give such a gift.

So, the swan in the kanzashi technique is waiting for us. First, we will prepare the tools and materials that will be needed in the work:

  • wire for the frame;
  • satin white ribbon and a little black;
  • glue;
  • scissors;
  • pliers;
  • lighter.

Let's get started. We bend the frame from the wire. The result should be a shape that looks like an inverted two with a small ring at the base. Now we wrap the workpiece with ordinary white thread, which is used for knitting. At the top, back off a little space. This will be the beak. Wind a few more layers of thread to form the head.

Cut out two leaves from a black tape about one centimeter wide and connect them together, and then glue them to the "forehead" of the workpiece. Thus, we got the eyes.

Now you need to make leaves with pointed edges from a white satin ribbon. Their number will depend on the size of the bird. We glue the swan with such leaves from the head to the beginning of the ring at the base.

We put the work with the tape aside for now. We return to our wire and twist two more rings, which we attach at the base. Thus, we got two wings. They also need to be wrapped with white thread.

For the wings, we need inverted sharp petals. For the bird's body, it is better to make double leaves and twice as large as for the neck, so that it does not seem flat.

When we learned how to make flowers using the kanzashi technique, we did not come across the technology of inverted leaves. It's time to fill this knowledge gap. In fact, you don't have to do anything new. Using the already known technology, fold the pointed sheet using only one square, and at the end of the work, turn the petal in the opposite direction.

The beautiful swan is ready! You can make another bird, and this will be a wonderful symbolic gift for a young couple.

Let's make changes to the usual process

If we talk about paintings and needlework, surely the first association that arises is cross stitching. To create such masterpieces, of course, you need a lot of patience and perseverance. If these qualities are not inherent in you, try to create paintings using the kanzashi technique.

How to make a masterpiece that even a schoolchild can do? So, we arm ourselves with tools, material, and do not forget about imagination.

Draw on canvas with ribbons

To create a painting using the kanzashi technique, we need the same set of tools as in the above lessons, but the material will be different.

In addition to satin ribbons, we need: a drape for the base, a floss thread and beads. And don't forget the frame to set the resulting masterpiece.

  1. From the drape, cut a piece to fit the glass from the frame - this is the basis for the picture.
  2. Before you start making flowers, decide what they will be: with round or pointed petals. Perhaps a mixed bouquet is planned. Of course, it is easiest for beginners to make flowers with rounded edges, but it all depends on you, and the kanzashi technique will help with this. The photos presented in the article will awaken your imagination.
  3. We cut out the leaves for the future picture in any shape, with the help of fire we carefully process their ends.
  4. With a piece of soap or a simple pencil, draw a sketch of the branches, which we then go through with neat stitches with a floss thread.
  5. It remains to arrange the prepared flowers with beads and start assembling the picture.
  6. To get started, simply lay out the leaves and flowers on the canvas. Take a closer look, correct something or change places, only then start gluing the existing elements to the drape.
  7. Let's proceed to the final stage. On the cardboard that was in the frame, apply a small amount of glue, and carefully put the finished canvas with the composition on it. Of course, the fabric can be glued directly to the frame, but there is a possibility that it will change shape in the future, so it's better not to risk it.

That's all, the picture is ready. Agree, nothing complicated. After you master the making of elementary flowers, move on to more complex elements. So, for example, you can also make a butterfly for a picture, and decorate the canvas itself with beautiful beads or sequins. In short, fantasize and create masterpieces that will delight you and your loved ones!

1. KANZASHES FOR MODERN NEEDLEWORKS. THE ART OF MAKING FLOWERS FROM RIBBONS

3. HOW TO MAKE A SHARP KANSASH PETAL. INSTRUCTIONS AND MASTER CLASS FOR BEGINNERS

General principle making a flower using this Japanese technique consists in the following: cut even lengths - petals from a satin ribbon or fabric. They must be twisted in a certain way and connected together in the form of a kanzashi flower. The petals can be stitched or glued together. The finished crafts must be attached to a hair clip or to any other hair accessory.

There are 2 classic forms of petals for forming a kanzashi flower - sharp (narrow) and round.

How to roll narrow petals for a flower out of ribbon segments correctly?

cut the same squares 6 by 6 cm from the tape (focus on the width of the tape). The more petals, the more voluminous it will be a flower collected from them ;

We form triangular modules from squares. To do this, fold an equilateral triangle with tweezers. Fold from above, apply the right to the left corner, then fold the workpiece again. Align the fold lines;

We trim the edges of the workpiece by cutting off the ends with scissors. Now you need to take a triangle with tweezers and, pinching the edges, quickly hold over the candle flame. This action will help melt and seal the edges;

Sharp kanzashi petals can be made from ribbon in a number of ways. Let's take a look at 4 ways you can make beautiful one-color and two-color fabric flower petals :

Kanzashi Khan is primarily based on the creation of parts in the form of squares from prepared materials. We know this technology as kanzashi tsumami.

The technique is as follows: the cut square blanks must be folded in a certain sequence; a simple set of tools is used for this. In the course of the work being done, step by step, amazing products made of satin and other materials “bloom” in the hands of the craftswomen. If you move away from the floral theme, using kanzashi, you can make brooches, earrings, necklaces, themed decorations for the holidays and other decor based on your own imagination. We hope that the instructions presented in this article and the preparatory master classes will help you figure out what this technique is based on and you will be able to make chic products from satin ribbons with your own hands.

What you need to work

Before trying to make kanzashi with our own hands and master the master class (MK) and lessons, let's study the list with materials and devices that are usually used for this type of work:

Studying lessons and master classes (MC), after some time, you will be able to independently choose suitable materials and devices for making kanzashi.

Kanzashi video will help you personally observe the process of creating parts and various kinds of work from experienced needlewomen. Therefore, be sure to look through such lessons, which are presented both on our website in a special section, and on the vastness of the worldwide network.

The whole essence of kanzashi is based on the creation of base petals, which have a pointed and rounded shape. To understand how to make such details, we have prepared master classes for you equipped with step by step photos, on which you can make out how such a process takes place step by step.

Sometimes needlewomen, based on one or another base petal, come up with their own novelties and methods of making original elements. This is how other details appear, such as the spiral petals.

I would like to note that at first, beginners should try to make kazanshi, consisting of a small number of fragments. These can be small flowers, which include about five varieties of petals.

When working with kanzashi, you can use not only satin material. Other interesting fabrics are also used here. The variety of colors crepe satin will help you choose interesting shades for your unique products. It should be borne in mind that this is a fairly soft material, on the basis of which it will be easy for you to make rounded petals. Pay attention to the fact that during the reflow process, darkening of the material is possible, therefore it is better to select dark colors for work.

Some needlewomen like to use organza for kanzashi. This matter is quite difficult to work with and will require you to take slow action and accuracy, due to the fact that it tends to crumble strongly when cut. In addition, you may have difficulty finding the right shade.

Base petals

So, the history and the theoretical part have been studied. At the next stage, we move on to practice and turn to the main varieties of kanzashi petals.

These tutorials will show you the process of creating rounded and sharp petals. To work with them, prepare:

  • satin ribbons of suitable shades;
  • lighter;
  • decorative details;
  • scissors;
  • a needle and thread.

Let us be the first to analyze what a round petal is and how to make it. First of all, cut the tape into square pieces (5 cm by 5 cm). Further, the resulting blanks, you need to fold with your own hands diagonally. Then, bend the upper corners and connect to the lower one. How to do it correctly can be seen in the attached photos. Now rotate the element and bend the side corners towards the middle. After that, the petal is bent again, so that the corners are inside the workpiece. Connect the corners to each other by sewing them with a thread and spread the resulting element with your hands. In the final step, secure the edge and cut the corner. The cut edge must be scorched with a flame. This should be done in order to avoid shedding the satin material. According to this scheme of actions, you can repeat the following petals and collect them into a flower.

Another master class, demonstrates the creation of a peaked petal. From the prepared satin squares with sides of five cm, make triangles by folding them diagonally. The resulting triangular element is folded several more times relative to the center. In the photo of the step-by-step, you can track the data of the action scheme. Next, you need to sew the edge of the resulting element and cut off the corner. The next tip of the petal is cut along a line parallel to the folded line. At the end of this process, burn the cut with a flame.

These are the schemes that underlie the manufacture of the main types of kanzashi petals. Practice creating these basic elements and collect their flowers. Additional decor made of rhinestones or beads will help you decorate such products.

Decorative curtain support

In continuation of the practical part, we offer you for consideration a master class on making curtain hooks with decorative details, which is based on the kanzashi technique.

In order to make a decor for kanzashi curtains, you will need:

  • satin ribbons of various shades, the width of which is 5 cm;
  • light satin ribbon (1 cm wide);
  • CD discs;
  • hot glue;
  • knife or soldering iron.

At the first stage, take a couple of discs and use a soldering iron to cut out the middle, leaving one and a half cm along the edges. Connect the resulting rings to each other with glue. While this blank is drying, you need to make sharp kanzashi petals. Next, you need to prepare the buds. One bud consists of 3 elements. In total, you need to make five such buds, gluing the petals together. A large flower is made up of five petals and several stamens. All parts are fixed with glue. Submitted by phased photos in this MC, demonstrate the described process of work.
